What if doing hard things felt really, really easy?
What if focusing for a really long period of time,
pushing your body to its limits,
just came completely naturally to you?
The truth is, most men struggle to achieve anything that goes beyond average.
They start a business, but fail.
They try and get in shape, but make no progress.
They try and acquire new skills, but simply give up.
And often the same old excuses come up, right?
But what if these weren't excuses?
They were actually reasons, and it wasn't a problem with your mindset.
It wasn't a lack of motivation.
It was rather a problem with your habits.
How many of your habits are sabotaging your focus,
sucking away your energy, and completely limiting your potential?
Why don't we actually flip the switch completely,
and implement five very simple, but very effective habits
that are going to make everything so much easier,
to the point where it really feels like we are playing life on easy mode.
With this new set of habits, hard work becomes fun.
It becomes effortless.
Discipline becomes the new autopilot, and your energy feels limitless.
It's time to stop self-sabotaging, and play life on easy mode.
We're going to start off with a bit of a weird one,
just so I can keep your attention.
Now, creatine has been a very much misunderstood and underused supplement.
For the longest time, it was really only bodybuilders and gym bros that took this.
A creatine is a chemical that's naturally found in the body.
It is found in red meat, it's found in seafood,
and it's known to be used to improve muscle mass and performance in the gym.
But the biggest benefits of creatine are actually for the brain.
And if you think about it, the brain is pretty much the biggest muscle in the body.
I mean, it consumes 20% of your energy every single day.
Now, the old advice was always to take five grams of creatine a day.
But if you want to play life on easy mode, you need to switch that up to 20 to 30 grams a day.
And I'm not the only person saying this.
Renowned scientists like Rhonda Patrick and Andrew Huberman
have been talking about the huge cognitive benefits that come with a larger dose of creatine.
I actually came across this completely by accident.
I was taking this larger dose to help with holding on to muscle while I'm in a fat loss phase,
and I realized everything just feels great.
I'm in an amazing mood, my brain is functioning incredibly well,
I'm able to work and focus for really long periods of time,
and I have all of this energy, yet I'm still able to fall asleep really quickly every night.
Just what is going on?
And then I realized it was the creatine.
It's like getting all of the energy and mood-boosting benefits of caffeine,
but without any of the jitteriness or anxiety or trouble sleeping.
Now, there are a couple of ways I like to consume my creatine.
There are some gummies that you can eat throughout the day.
I really like those.
I also like this flavored powder.
This one is from Nutricost, so it's pretty cheap.
And I'll just put a teaspoon or a scoop of this in my blender bottle,
and I'll drink that with half a liter of water four to six times a day,
so my creatine is spaced out evenly.
That helps avoid any bloating or stomach issues that some people seem to get.
But I've been telling all of my friends about this.
I've also been telling the members of The Gentleman's Institution about this,
and everybody that's tried it has found exactly the same results as me.
So, start off by taking 20 to 30 grams of creatine a day.
The second step to live life on easy mode is to stop drinking alcohol,
or at least massively limit it.
Alcohol is a depressant.
It depresses your state of mind,
and for so many men, it is absolutely limiting their potential,
maybe even ruining their lives.
Not necessarily because they are an alcoholic,
but because it is diminishing 20 to 30% of their abilities three, four times a week.
The first step is to actually just stop getting drunk.
I'm so glad that I got out of that phase of my early to mid-twenties,
where many, many times throughout the year,
I would get drunk and make bad decisions,
and then spend the whole next day hungover,
feeling anxious, and not being able to really do anything of value.
The next step is to stop drinking at home,
and to place firmer boundaries on your social drinking.
If you come home from work, and you immediately pour yourself a drink,
or you crack open a beer,
you're basically resigning your potential for that night.
And as a man in your twenties and thirties,
I just don't see why you would want to do that.
Why not stay sharp?
Don't drink something that's going to not only dull your edge mentally,
but even make you fat and interfere with your testosterone.
So my journey with alcohol has been six months of sobriety,
toward the end of last year and earlier this year.
That was absolutely fantastic, and I realized that for me,
the only real value that comes with drinking is when it's a cultural experience,
or I'm really sharing a moment with somebody.
So now, I will drink a certain cocktail,
or a certain spirit that's local to a place I'm visiting.
I'll try something new.
I'll have a great glass of wine with a wonderful meal.
But pretty much week to week, I'm just not drinking alcohol,
because I don't see the benefits.
But there are those moments.
For example, if I'm with my dad, and we've not seen each other for a long time,
I can't wait to have a single malt together.
But day to day, I'm not drinking any beer.
I'm not drinking wine.
I'm not coming home and pouring myself a drink.
There's just simply no benefit to that for me.
And it also massively interferes with your sleep,
which brings me on to step number three,
which is to sleep seven to eight hours a night.
If you aren't sleeping well consistently,
it's going to give you poor physical performance,
poor mental performance, poor emotional regulation.
Basically, everything just stops working if you don't sleep well.
If you want to really easily ruin your life and make everything worse,
just only sleep five or six hours a night.
It's like having a car and not changing the oil for years.
Everything is just going to stop working.
Now, sleep can be sacrificed here and there on your journey when you're working hard.
I've definitely had some early starts and some late nights.
But never make a long-term habit
or see sleep as something that you can just discard in order to be replaced by something else.
When you sleep well and you get to work the next day,
you will be able to focus for very long periods of time.
You will be able to think creatively, develop excellent new ideas.
Your decision-making will also be so much better
because you won't be so emotional.
You won't be stressed.
You won't be anxious.
You will make decisions from a very calm, collected place.
And when it comes to physical performance,
I don't even need to tell you how much a lack of sleep just destroys muscle
and turns your body into an inflamed, bloated blob of fat.
Now, I don't get seven to eight hours of sleep every single night.
Sometimes life just gets in the way
or sometimes we wake up in the middle of the night and just have a rough night of sleep.
But because I sleep very well consistently,
I find that this does accumulate.
So if I go seven nights in a row sleeping seven to eight hours
and then I have one night where it's only four or five,
I don't really feel the effects too much
and I can actually go and have a great gym session and a great work day.
I would say that it was almost impossible for me to really get a handle on my sleeping habits
and actually sleep as much as I need to until I started tracking it.
So wearing a device to bed like a Fitbit, an Aura Ring,
that will help you get the data that you need to understand
whether you need to go to bed a little bit earlier,
whether you want to wake up a little bit later
or things that you've done throughout the day,
maybe caffeine consumption, alcohol consumption,
how they are affecting your ability to get a good seven to eight hours of sleep.
Step four to play life on easy mode is to get up before everybody else.
Now waking up early is not essential for success.
It's not something that every single successful person does,
but it would help the vast majority of people.
And the reason why is because it's so much easier to do these positive behaviors
like exercise, meditation, deep work.
It's so much easier to do those in the morning before the day begins
than at the end of the day after you've been through all the stress
and all of the work and the tiredness throughout your working day
and interactions with others.
At the same time, so many negative unhealthy behaviors,
whether it's drinking alcohol, playing video games,
watching Korn, staying up too late,
they are happening late at night.
Nobody is waking up at 530 a.m.
and immediately opening up the hub and cracking a beer and smoking a joint, right?
These things happen late at night.
So to stop these negative behaviors, simply be in bed and be asleep.
That way you can't even be tempted.
The morning hours are your opportunity to get a head start against the world.
This is your time to build, to build a business, to build a better body,
maybe even to build better mental health or develop a new skill.
You use this opportunity before other people can interfere and distract and drain you.
Life feels hard right now because other people are stealing your energy.
Get ahead before they wake up while you still have the chance.
And there's also a beautiful stillness and peace of mind
that comes with being awake early in the morning.
For me, I'll wake up at 5 a.m.
I'll do some stretching, go to the gym, and then take a walk outside,
see the sunrise, see people out with their dogs,
and it's just the highlight of my day.
You will also experience a very different side to your neighborhood
or your city when you wake up early.
If you want to meet high-value people, both men and women,
both friends, business people, potential romantic partners,
the people that wake up early and go exercise,
they are the kind of people that you want to be around,
not necessarily the barflies that are still staying out at 1 or 2 on a Tuesday evening.
And the final step to play life on easy mode very much fits into this early morning thing,
which is to not use your phone during the first hour of the day.
As I said, life feels hard because other people are draining you,
and they're often doing this via your device.
And if it's not somebody personal with texts or phone calls,
it's instead social media apps.
It's technology companies that are draining you.
During that first hour of the day, have stillness of mind.
Listen to your thoughts.
Have focus on your deep work or your exercise,
and do the things that are most important to you
before giving energy and focus to anybody else.
I make this really easy for myself by simply turning my phone off the night before
and not turning it back on sometimes till 8 or 9 o'clock in the morning.
I personally use an iPad as my alarm clock and to play some music in the morning.
I don't have my messages connected.
I don't have any social media apps downloaded to this iPad.
If you don't have something like that,
you could even just buy an old-fashioned alarm clock,
wake up with that and keep the phone out of sight, out of mind
until you've done your most important things.
Even throughout the day, I will often go for periods where I have my phone turned off
or at least switched on to do not disturb.
And when I open my phone to do something constructive,
it's a matter of discipline to not open up Instagram.
It's a matter of discipline to not be refreshing emails
or replying to text messages as soon as they come through.
And if you do all of the other things in this video,
having that discipline is going to feel a lot, lot easier.
So a very quick recap to play life on easy mode.
You're going to consume 20 to 30 grams of creatine a day.
You're going to cut out alcohol or at least massively limit it.
Sleep 7 to 8 hours a night.
Get up before everybody else and don't use your phone during the first hour of the day.
So now you've activated easy mode.
What will you do with these newfound levels of focus, energy and mood?
Well, I recommend that you use this to build something that will help you escape mediocrity.
Take your life to the next level using these tools.
And to help you do that, I've got a great video for you to watch next.
You'll find the link somewhere around here or in the description.
So I'll see you over on that video.
