Today is September 8th and we are talking Yanks.
Is Judge making his return?
I hope.
Hello and welcome to Talking Yanks.
Thank you very much for joining us today.
My name is Jimmy.
His name is Jake BBD.
In the corner, Fanatic Sports and Casino presenting and
manager of the Yankees.
Aaron Boone will be joining us shortly.
Jake.
How are you doing?
James Davis.
Everyone tuning in.
I'm good.
Happy Judgment Day to those that celebrate.
I'm doing well.
Couple couple off days and Labor Day and kind of a goodbye
to summer for a lot of people.
Goodbye that yeah, I'm it.
It should be a big week.
It should be a big one tonight.
Hopefully it should be.
I mean a big one this weekend.
Whether you Subway series or September 11th or all of that
and as we're trying to pursue the Rays and I don't the Red
Sox kind of like rejoin the party over the weekend again
because they're just sicko.
So I'm excited to do all of it.
I am too, you know, sad seasonal affliction disease or whatever.
It's called seasonal depression.
Yeah, but there's I don't know what the a stands for seasonal
applied depression.
I seasonal affective disorder.
I want to say.
I don't know why that's sad.
I think the abbreviation is sad, which again, that's what I
said.
Yeah, whatever sad.
Why it might not be a real one.
I don't know if that's a real one or that's what like colloquially
it's called.
But anyway, I have a version of seasonal affliction disease
disorder where seasonal affective disorder is all over sad when
the humidity burns off and we get these nice crisp mornings.
I'm just as happy as I could be.
Yeah, my happiest time of year and I'm also pumped about the
Yankees going down this stretch and maybe big number 99 returning
which obviously is the first question we ask manager Aaron
buckle up.

between when you're not repping the Yankees during the stretch
run making your hometown NFL team.
Can Jackson Dart stay out of the tent?
Hello.

How are you?
I'm all right.
How are you guys?
We're good.
We might reverse engineer this a little bit and do a little
guess the lineup to start.
Let's start.
Who's your right fielder tonight?
We'll see.
Wow.
If you had you in there if we guess it was it could be DH and
that could be the trick.
Well, you guys can just send it to me.
Very nice.
Actually, I was trying to figure out what it would be and you
don't need to tell us right now.
We'll find out later today, but I know your rhythms with three
righties and where you like them, you know, like the two five
seven or or the two five eight or with or the three six eight,
you know stuff like that.
Well with only two we were trying to do it.
If it was just judge and Lombard in there.
I was good.
I was very curious how you would navigate that if it would
be like the two and the eight and then put one of your lefties
that you might feel comfortable platooning in the middle
stretch because you've talked to us about that before like
a guy that might come out to put a righty in there later in
the game.
You'd want to still handle that.
Yeah.
Well, we'll see.
I'll wait to get it from you guys and then I'll release it
is that are you having the same thoughts or does it come like,
you know, or is it easier because you always talk about,
you know, the balance of it.
It's been more challenging because we've had obviously days
where we've had seven lefties eight lefties even in the
lineup.
So, you know, and we are a righty on the mound tonight.
So it's been a little more challenging because I do kind
of crave that little balance, but I like I like that.
We're getting a lot of people back in the mix.
So it will judge be playing today.
I mean per the Yankees and yes, now we're social media.
It sure seems like he's making his return.
Yeah, I mean, he's making his return.
We'll see.
I got to make sure you get got through yesterday.
Fine, and we'll see where we're at.
Who were the pitchers?
He was facing yesterday in the live at bats.
We we deducted one was Pico cone.
Is that correct?
Yes, and so we have a few guys in that, you know that helped
us out and it was big time to you know, get us a lot of it
bats and so that was nice.
Do you tell them like hey groove some we want everyone to
think he's you know, just know I think they're they're competing
but you know, they did a good job for the most part of strike
throwing and mixing and yeah, I think it's you know valuable
for them to compete on the outer half of the plate.
Yeah, you had mentioned to someone or in a postgame or pregame
about judge returning that you might be building up on the
fly without the mind any minor league stint and that fan should
expect maybe some games where he only goes six seven definitely
some off days mixed in.
Yeah, I just wanted to ask that again.
Like should fans be expecting if he is starting today that
not even reliant on the game score.
He might only be penciled in for six seven innings, correct?
Yes.
Okay.
Yeah, I don't want to you know, I know he'll want to play play
all nine ready to go and and he's done a great job of building
himself up but want to be smart about it too.
Is that part of the reason you guys send down Elmer Rodriguez?
So technically you could say you have an extra hitter on the
roster is part of help manage that.
Not really.
No.
I mean it it just that's kind of where we are.
We feel like, you know coming out of the off day.
We're in a pretty good spot with a couple long guys.
It lines up to where how we want to build up Elmer moving forward
and so not know not as much having the extra guy for judge
necessarily.
It's the the off days help as well with the series book ended
by off days.
One more on judge and DH has been Rice has been in the DH spot
a lot.
You have Garcia and Goldie that can platoon at first.
Are you going to try it is the goal to have judge play mostly
right field to keep that available or because it's very
hard to navigate if he's taking.
Yeah.
I mean obviously with with Rice Garcia and Goldie, you know,
it makes the DH spot tough.
So he we've been preparing him to play right field and you
know, I know he's looking forward to getting out there.
What is John Schreiber's nickname?
What do you guys call him?
tribes.
Okay, that's yeah.
We're kind of the same boat.
What's that?
I kind of say Schreiber Schreiber.
Okay, he looks like the San Diego State head football coach.
Okay.
Yeah, we can build off down.
Okay.
I was looking for a nickname before I ask about Schreiber.
There's other guys that you had a whole bunch of pitchers
rowing again to see if they're going to make a comeback or
where they're at.
We Clark Schmidt.
Obviously he threw to scoreless innings and he's on his way.
You did say maybe two more outings or so down in the minors.
Yes.
Okay.
And are you looking for anything there?
Or is it just to build up more innings?
Not even build up more innings.
Just just to compete again.
Just, you know, it's been obviously a year out, you know,
so want to get them somewhat of a spring training
as far as games go.
So just getting that game action.
So they'll have a couple more and then be in play.
And with Weathers, he threw again.
Yes, the plan is he's playing catch now.
So I don't know what his build up will look like or, you know,
when, when he would be an option, but I know he's throwing
again.
And then with Cruz, obviously, he's in a, you know, a
heartbreaking predicament.
And my point of view, maybe he doesn't feel that way, but
he's trying to throw again, even though he's, yeah, it does
have a tour.
He probably won't be throwing for a few more days.
Okay, but he did play catcher.
He did throw recently.
No, he's just was clear to.
So he's building up to that now with, you know, he's got
plyos and things to do.
So probably look at it potentially this weekend.
All right.
Appreciate it.
What about we see Will Warren come out of the bullpen?
That was an interesting one because Freed was so economical
in a delightful way.
And there you are.
What is it a 1-1 ball game?
And it's I guess walk me through the thought process in still
going to Warren there and then what you saw from Will that
you liked.
Yeah.
So obviously had Blackburn up with them.
And, you know, if there's if there was going to be a situation
with some traffic, I would have gone, you know, Paul or someone
else to, you know, in that kind of scenario.
But once it got to two outs, nobody on, I felt like that
was a good time to bring in Will.
Like the pocket for Will, certainly want to see him in those
situations and thought he came in and he walked the first
guy on four pitches.
But then was, you know, pretty economical.
I think in giving us a couple innings there, which was big
and so I thought it looked good.
It was I thought it was encouraging and good for him to get
into a game like that a tight game where it's different.
It's new.
You're, you know, different adrenaline and you know, it could
be a valuable thing for us.
He didn't throw the sinker as much.
All the Velo was up on all his pitches and there was a couple
other changes in his pitch mix.
When a guy's doing that, how much of that is the game plan
from the catcher who's been in that game facing these hitters
or how much does that come from, you know, Will Wells and
and Matt Blake?
I think in that case, Will was a lot more reliant on Austin.
Like, hey, I'm coming in, you know, not as much game prep
that you would do as a starter getting ready, you know, that
you kind of all week are leaning into and that you're a part
of so a real good idea.
I think I think even Will said like, you know, I just really
leaned on on Austin there to kind of guide him through.
I was always curious about, you know, when a guy usually
ditches some pitches going to the pen and if that is, you
know, like really communicated like if Matt Blake is like,
hey, you're not going to throw this.
We're going to lean on these two or if it's just more feel
and rhythm of the game, but he did look crisp like he was
throwing harder.
It was like one point one and a half miles per hour is the
timeout before as a starter to okay.
Every you guys have faced a lot of pitchers this year who
like break theirs.
Yeah, they break their speed.
They're like top pitches of the year and I was wondering
maybe you guys are just juicing the guns for the opposing
team to get in their head a little bit.
No, I don't think we control that.
Okay.
Here's your here's your comparison.
It's pretty good.
Yeah, right.
Oh interesting.
Sean Lewis send the interstate now.
I don't know what stripes has under the hat.
If he's bald, it's going to be really Yankee head on that
guy.
Yes, we got AI.
Yeah.
Bubba Chuck in the outfield.
You mentioned Aaron judge is going to start tonight.
Maybe and then Trent gets hurt.
Jones has been fascinating.
I mean now the the verse lefty numbers are pretty wild.
We've seen Ramos with his slow start and we haven't seen a
ton of lefties which is supposed to be kind of his whole
deal every day when bellies out there is a good day.
So what's I guess what does that juggle look like with you
going forward with Spencer Ramos and whoever else?
Yeah, we'll see.
You know, I it is important like Ramos has looked really
good against lefties the whole I thought the whole series
against the Red Sox where we saw a bunch and we went to
Anaheim.
He had a couple of really good at bats off of Detmers, you
know, so I like where he's at where we're finally seeing
some lefties where he can be a factor like that.
So we'll just you know, we'll play it by ear like, you know,
we're playing for a lot down the stretch and try and put
our best for foot forward every night and and hopefully
if we get to October.

I had a question about a Cole.
He is is he's averaging like 84 pitches and outing in his
last eight or so and I was wondering if that's an overarching
kind of choice because he's recovering from Tommy John and
hasn't had a full season since 2023 under him or if that the
game situations are just kind of leading you to changing
him at a lower pitch count.
Yeah, I mean a little bit of both.
I mean certainly the first several weeks.
I was very conscious of you know, having a lower account
for him and you know, not a lot but you know, definitely
lower there was an outing here there were out, you know,
we're going to pull back a little bit.
So yeah, I mean probably a little bit of caught being
conscientious of that.
You know and knowing that he was coming back and when he
was coming back in June and you know that he was going to
be up over a hundred innings.
So kind of trying to be smart about managing that as well.
There is how big of a head tilt do you do when he in the
first three batters at home runs off your starting pitcher?
Yeah, I mean, I mean man some good swings.
They put on on some balls, you know, obviously the breaking
ball hung up enough that but he rides it out the other way.
You don't expect Cronenworth to go backside on you where
he puts a good swing on a heater away and and then Manny
just put a great swing on a middle down one that he I think
wanted to get to the edge more.
But yeah, I mean, it's one of those fluky things that you
know, in some ways you're not perfect with your with your
execution, but three guys make kind of really great swings.
So, you know, the good part about that is like he doesn't
even really flinch, you know, or you just kind of adjust
on the fly doesn't get too emotional and ends up going
seven strong innings for us and give us a chance.
So, you know, not a great way to start but love the reaction.
We some early trivia for you.
How many times in Major League Baseball do you think that's
happened that the first three batters of the game hit a home
run? I was a part of one on the use me nine.
You were a part of one on on on when you were a player.
Yeah, Atlanta.
That means that means you've been part of five.
Oh, that's crazy.
It's happened 12 times calls the first pitcher.
It happened twice to which is just a bizarre thing for you
know, a future Hall of Famer.
And you guys did it twice to Nestor and to Gibby in 2025.
That's right.
Yeah.
So the Yankees have done it have been part of four of the
last six times.
It's happened.
The Yankees have been part of it.
Wow.
Yeah, it happened to us in 2001.
I believe one or two with when I was was in Cincinnati.
The Braves did it first three for a call to Rosa.
Jeff Austin was the pitcher.
Yes, that was the second time it ever happened in history.
The first time was 1987.
Yeah.
Happen to Scherzer.
Wow.
Well, the the Nestor one doesn't really count because that's
when you guys were cheating with the torpedo bats.
So yeah, okay.
That was a funny one.
What a weird sport, huh?
You guys use them the whole year before nobody cared.
Hey, there seem to be we you mentioned these off days and
then lining up the rotation.
I guess how much a lot of Yankee fans have been eyeing that
four-game set with Tampa, which it seems if things continue
that the Yankees top four in the rotation would or could be
lined up for that was is that part of the mentality or what
were you guys aiming for?
Yeah, I think that's part of it.
Yes.
Okay.
Have you have you looked at postseason rotation at all?
Okay, because I'm trying to I was trying to play through
and if it stays like this, they would be this and yeah, I
haven't gone there yet.
We got to get there first.
Okay.
All right.
I was doing some math and trying to figure out if Cole could
get the second game and it was like, I'm sure you guys have
an easier answer for this because you do it all the time,
but I was like, I don't know how I navigate get a big break
in starts for him at some point.
There's really only three starts left for each pitcher three
or four.
Sounds about right.
Yeah.
I can I ask you about two in-game things?
Sure.
I know that.
I know that you're your favorite one is the challenge when
Spencer steals Spencer.
It's a it's the same at bat both of them Ramos is up Spencer
Jones.
It's a double of Mason Miller.
You get the one run and now you have the runner on second.
We've talked on this, you know, bantering is boom segment
a lot about how that second run is way more is is important
you and you want to sell out if you're the away team usually
they don't play small ball for the first run, but if you
get it, it's Mason Miller.
So this is where my head stopped and I was like, well, it's
a pretty hard task to ask him in a bunt against Mason Miller
and it's Ramos who is here to slug but any thought to trying
to lay down a bunt there and move?
Well, no, not with Ramos hasn't done that in his career really
ever and it's Mason Miller.
So no.
Yeah, that was the my initial thought was like, oh, let's
punt them over.
And then I had all those thoughts and I was like, I don't
think that's the right.
I don't think that would be a great call there.
And then when Spencer steals third thrown out no challenge
on that play.
Can you walk us through kind of what you guys saw and then
if after the fact if you saw and we're like, I wish I would
have no, I mean typically in that scenario, I'll almost
instinctively just throw them up just because because of where
we are in the game and that's fair, but it came back really
quick and like, oh, he's out.
So we kind of knew right away.
And yeah, so so I mean, I still could have done it obviously,
but and probably maybe even you could say should have done
it because it's the 10th and you know, but it's I always
say it's not a lottery ticket either.
It's not like we're pulling out one and 50.
It's like we knew he was out.
Yeah, they saw that came back quick.
So I held it up and it was, you know, with seven seconds
to go.
He just said he's out.
Okay.
Last year.
The talk was all about how bad base running and you said
no, we don't get out on the bases enough.
We need to try more that's happened this year.
But also you've been the better made the best base running
team.
I know when Caballero and jazz were both doing the thing
consistently you guys rated out as the best at grabbing
the extra base, but it has come with more people throwing
out getting thrown out.
Personally, I like the exchange.
I like seeing the action that game three base runners get
get thrown out.
Yeah, is that just tip your hat to the catcher?
Does anything out anything more go into that?
No, I mean, I liked all running situations that we, you
know, look campus on at a great series against us throwing
like and he's more probably in the average bucket.
We had decent matchups to run and and I thought running
scenarios like it wasn't, you know, two outs to house runner
at first trying to get a scoring position.
I'm good with the aggressive Spencer going to third with
with Miller on the mound.
We're trying to steal an extra run there and he's going
to be tough to string hits.
So I was good.
I was good with all of our I mean and and I put some of
them on too.
So I was good with the timing of it and you always want to
be safe.
I you know, obviously but I didn't have an issue with with
any of the the attempts we just got had.
Yeah, and a lot of them are close a lot of them are and
one of them was, you know, over sliding the bag, which
you guys also benefited with Machado.
Yeah, I think actually Machado stayed on the back.
Yeah, he kind of gave himself up.
So I don't know if they review.
We had that as he stayed on.
I was surprised the ump called that in lifetime.
I also really want them to change that rule and come up
with at least start testing in the minor league some variations
of if you beat him to the bag, but you come up by an inch
above it or you don't over slide it because it's there's
a lot now.
It's just so ticky.
Yeah, the catchers interference to some of them likes the
one we benefited from Spencer had the one thing like that
feels like it shouldn't be catchers interference feel like
to take a swing.
Yeah, that's one of those ones where I understand it's hard
to make like rules want to be grounded in if this happens,
it's this because it's easier to umpire and like legislate.
But yeah, sometimes it's like, well, the ball first feels
like there's going to be some d3 team with a crazy coach.
That's like, let's get hit my born pitches and let's swing
at the catchers glove.
Can you play with like a fake hand?
Like if Jim Abbott threw on like a metal hand inside of
a glove is he eligible to play because then you could just
throw that thing way out.
You're not going to get injured.
That's some that's a baseball movie of cheating.
That's like when they hired the little person from the
circus to get a walk.
Yeah, start hiring amputees to catch is they won't get hurt
by catchers interference.
Send that up to the brass.
They're always inventing new stuff.
You let you let this guy write the lineup.
That's crazy.
That's insane.
Speaking of do we play a little GTL?
Do you have anything else?
Well, it's not I don't know if we're going to be able to
guess the lineup.
It sounds like we're well, I don't know positive leading
off Ben Rice playing playing DH.
I want to I don't want to wait to finalize the lineups.
So no guessing.
Okay.
Mac is a bit of platoon player for last month or so and
starts against righties, but not against lefties.
But is that now a new another new wrinkle?
You've started Caballero a couple times when it's a lefty
pitcher at third.
You've started Rosario more but you have more options now
and what would go into the decision-making of who you
choose to be your third baseman versus a lefty pitcher.
Who we're facing who's pitching for us.
Also, so if it's a ground a guy that induced like Max
Freed who induces a lot of ground balls, you might play
the defensive element of Caballero over.
Yeah, maybe okay.
Were you what did you get ejected because you were double
upset because the check swing in the second inning ruined
the potential perfect game for camp.
I wasn't thinking in terms of perfect game, but it was
two on Vaughn.
The first one was close first one.
I felt like maybe you went but could have gone either way.
No, I was I just jumped out of the dugout.
I could couldn't believe you missed it.
Are you excited for that new rule?
And then I was upset at the home plate on two because
I'm like you didn't even need to check that one.
Yeah.
So are you are you excited for that rule?
They're testing out and eventually probably going to
bring up with the check swing and you can it's a strict
line.
There's no I don't know.
Maybe it's going to help batters out a lot probably more
in line with how the game was in like the 70s and 80s.
You watch a game from that and they'll take like a almost
a full swing and there's not even an appeal.
It is it is so interesting the development of how that
has been armed without the rule changing at all.
Yeah, and they are very egregiously.
I think in favor of the pitcher because it has to be did
he attempt to hit it and sometimes I'm like, no, that's
not an attempt to hit it.
He just kind of turned his body.
I think in our minds.
We all have a like I think I know exactly what is one and
what isn't one and yeah, but it's it's a gray line.
So there you know, I'm sure Major League Baseball would
want a black and white like this is this isn't because
that's one of those, you know, ones that's that's very
gray.
Yeah from a full standpoint.
Yeah, I think we talked to some people at MLB rules committee
a while ago just trying to get a fan's perspective.
I was like, I think the younger fan just wants black and
white and this is the rule and this is the call whereas,
you know, my dad's generation.
They didn't have replay.
That was really could tell the story and they didn't have
challenges and they just had to live with results more and
eat it and then and then tell the other person don't get
upset.
What are you going to do?
And like my age and younger is like, well, we can do something.
This is easier to cover now back in the day to like, you
know, there's that whole thing of like, oh, you thought
that was a ball.
Huh?
Watch this one.
Like, yeah, we're umpires that did that kind of stuff.
What about umpires band-aiding straight hats back in the
day?
Do you think that this Doug Edding story wouldn't have
been a thing back in the day?
Yeah, that's pretty okay.
The bizarre one.
Yes.
Yeah.
I don't know.
I got a mini trivia.
All right.
Hit him.
We already did three homers in a row.
Trivia is awesome.
People loved it.
That was awesome because we have any Subway series is this
weekend weekend.
Mets made a lot of trades at the deadline.
There are still two players on the Mets who you've managed.
Can you name them?
Oh, wow, Devin Devin Williams is one Juan Soto Juan Soto is
the other guy.
There was a there's a there's a bonus point for someone
you've managed in spring training Luis.
Yeah, Luis Terence Luis Terence.
He got a nice little contract for them.
Good for them.
Yeah, like that.
And did you say the right fielder tonight has the same
first name as you mostly mostly stay tuned.
Your camera had a nice little zoom there.
It looked like a 90s comedy for a second.
All right.
Well, we're all rooting for that.
And he's the poetry, you know, it it's been 99 days since
we've saw number 99.
That's really good stuff.
Yeah.
So that's magic, you know, social media is really running
with this Poonie.
There's going to be some sad pups in the sand tonight.
I realized that I got the control out of dot the T's and
cross.
I know eyes, you know, correct activated off the IL.
Okay.
Yeah.
All right.
Okay.
All right.
Go in.
Yep.
See you guys.
All right.
It's time to make our same game parlay picks for tonight's
game present by fanatic sports and casino.
You can make your own same game parlay by picking multiple
legs from tonight's game and combine them into one bet or
you can tell our picks right in the fanatic sports and
casino app.
You guys know what it is.
It's Yanks minus one and a half got to it's got to be big
the big fellas back.
We're going to go to total bases.
I don't want to put too much pressure.
I think it's going to be four, but that's fine.
And then I can't trying to lock that up.
We're going to go eight plus strikeouts against these rocks
so you can come tell us make your own from the first pitch
to the final out.
Come see why winning hits different at fanatic sports and
casino.
And there you have it manager Aaron Boone talking all things
would not give us the confirmation on judge, which I
don't know.
I think he's going to play.
I understand why he doesn't want to speak at a turn, but
would have been more fun to be like he's in there.
He's playing where I feel is going to hit two homers would
have more fun to have that happen.
Yeah, if it's felt like the whole judge return has been
hyper calculated between like Yankee social media posting
stuff.
I mean they activated him from the I like it's not like
we're waiting for that update.
They did that yesterday.
He's on the active roster.
So why would you do that?
If he's not going to play today?
Well, I think he's going to play.
I think he doesn't know if he's going to DH or he's going
to play right field or maybe he needs a day to recover and
then they said he's not going to DH.
I know I don't do they're doing a whole dance and it went
too far in the 99 days is kind of weird to me.
If I'm being honest.
Oh, you don't like that stuff.
No, you don't like that Kennedy's secretary was named Lincoln
and Lincoln secretary is named Kennedy.
I don't mind that because that was natural.
Yeah.
Well, this is I think natural I think is natural.
Is there any chance like the funny business is like sort
of like when he came back in 18?
It's like we'll sub him in later.
I know that was different because he wasn't ready to hit
yet, but oh, yeah, they put him in like defensively, right?
Like if that's how they limit his innings is like, wow,
remember that dude and we were against it, but then the
crowd went crazy was like a gladiator entering the ring
and we're like, all right, I was kind of cool do it again.
I think really he just doesn't want to tell the public
before he talks to the players.
I think it's more so it's the respect of the players thing
of if he hasn't sent like because I think he texted the
lineup to the guys before coming on the show a lot the
players themselves and if he doesn't do that, he doesn't
want them to hear it from this and I think that's what
it is, which I you know, that's I don't not upset about
a lot of other days.
We've played guests the lineup.
Yeah, and it's been ready to go, you know, why I yeah,
I I believe him that it's not ready to go yet because he
wants to confirm with judge how he's feeling after swinging
all day and getting a night's rest.
Yeah, just text.
I don't know.
I don't know what else did a Schreiber doesn't have a nickname
Schreiber.
He said no, we got a doppelganger does he also that look
is also the look of the Dan Zlotnick who sings the Talking
Yankees theme song.
I've been seeing Dan has the bald head and the beard and
and similar not in that picture, but the other one.
Yeah, the other one where he had his bald head and what
Schreiber's hair situation.
He's a bald.
He is.
Yeah.
Okay.
So then we're trying to tell you.
Yeah.
Yeah, really excited when you when you asked.
Oh, he was.
Yeah, missed it.
He is.
Oh, okay.
I was doing the magic of when the Yankee had on his head
at that point.
He was wishy-washy about a lot today, huh?
It was a wishy-washy day last week.
He gave us a good amount.
This was a wishy-washy one.
I would tell you one of the things you were more excited
about going in that I think was his only non wishy-washy
answer was lining up the rotation for Tampa.
Yeah, like that one that one was one of the easier ones
to dance around.
Yeah, and he was like, yep.
That was part of it.
And that should be part of it.
You need those big picture in all those games.
Now Boone might not be looking at the rotation moving
ahead to the wild card, but someone is someone's job is
yeah, they haven't made the playoffs yet.
Yes, but someone's got him making plans.
Yeah.
He also gave us how it's interesting because I replay
didn't show Spencer was out automatically, but we didn't
get to see all the angles because they didn't do it on
that one point and then Ramos punting.
I mean got the answer there.
Mason Miller and Ramos doesn't bunt a lot.
I kind of regret not asking a follow-up like if the personnel
was different you're open to that and I think he would say
yes.
Yeah, that was just more the personnel.
Now.
I did look into it Jake how many times Ramos has attempted
to bunt in his career.
Sure, any guesses?
I'll give you two buckets zero in between 7 and 15 or over
a hundred.
I would go zero with those options seven times.
Okay.
Yeah, nice seven times.
He's attempted NL baseball.
Yeah, all in 2023.
Okay, who is managing the Giants in 2023 Oppenheimer?
I don't know that Bob 2023 San Francisco Giants manager
Melvin's first year.
Is that still gay?
I think it says it says Gabe.
He was dismissed September 29th, 2023.
Well, all of these buns happen in April.
So for one month of his career a rookie.
Hey Rook.
Yeah, all of his bunt attempts having from April 9th to April
22nd.
And what happened was the very first one.
He got down.
I sent you all these files memes.
If you want to put him in the post at it, you don't need to
show him now, but the very first one he got down but it was
an 80 mile per hour pitch from Chris Bublik a change-up then
he bunted foul.
He missed he tried to bunt and ended up taking a strike.
That's not and then he reached on an error.
He's using Lizardo 97 mile per hour and Lizardo just like
lobbed it away.
Then he tried two more times.
He missed and foul.
So I do it.
I did come to that conclusion when we were talking about it
myself.
I like yeah, that's not a bunting situation.
I wish pinch hitting for the bunt.
We've seen pinch hitting for the walk.
We've seen pinch hitting for the swinging bunt.
Yeah, I thought about doing that because that's a good baseball
conversation of just like how much does Velo scare you from
the bunt because that's the it's kind of the biggest thing
and Miller's the biggest Velo guy.
Yeah, it is.
Yeah, I agree.
I would agree with it's a good that would have been a better
follow-up.
Like does personnel of the pitcher coming to play as much
as personnel of the batter?
I think so and then yeah, I guess for me because we asked
there's a roster question.
I do think the Yankees are taking this Rockies series lightly
a la that Tiger series from a few years back, but it was
very different time of year and we still have Schlittler and
Fried and Warren's the middle game that they they fully punted
those games but with the one less pitcher and like Yarborough's
fresh the Yankees are banking on one if not two of these games
to be like blow out take care of judge have Yarborough pitch.
I understand what you're saying.
I would disagree with the 2021 series against the Tigers because
they really yes, they really like punted those they have a
full fresh bullpen.
I don't think you're going to see any bullpen decisions that
don't make sense, especially with the off days.
I'll be interested to see I could see not like that was
another another one of the things he said confidently was
like did he say Yarborough's name or is he mentioned like we
got long guys fresh now that I could see one or two that Tiger
series famously they called up Davey to make a start and then
followed him with Alberta Bray you just a designed to pitcher
piggyback game of guys that were both minor league pitchers.
They send them down and do it like again.
Yeah, I think so and then King who was not a starter at the
time, right?
He wasn't my King yet pitched the third game another like a
bulk him and Nestor were like the bolt guys with Nick Nelson
finishing it out power change up and there's there's an elements
here of like you like I appreciate making sure the good
pitchers are ready.
That was in May.
So then we were like, let's get our wins this.
I understand with the off days.
I do think they'll be a little more cautious, but I you know,
you have everyone available to go for the win.
Most nights if they're up five, they might try to sneak you some
former in your home.
Former's a lockdown six-inning guy.
So Yarby might be in there.
Yeah, and I guess the off day run is over, right?
Like we don't have another off day.
I think till Thursday the 17th and they have the double header,
but there's an off day before that, right?
That's two off days.
Yeah, what nine in a row?
So nine in a row, which I don't know.
We've seen how quickly this bullpen the way it's currently
constructed can get tight that I I personally think they'd love
to burn Yarborough for a day this series.
I think by the Mets series, you probably see Dominguez sent
down for a reliever.
Yes.
I agree.
The Dominguez probably going to once they get the clear on
judge.
He's in there.
He plays a couple games.
Who do they have?
What do they got in Scranton is with the injuries.
I've been that's been pitching like so should be back and
throwing or is he still hurt?
That's because Yari's down there.
And so is Bradley Hanna to be still still hurt to my understanding
Justin Topa's back down there.
Elmer can he come back up without injury?
I think he can because he was signed to a new minor league
deal, right?
Yes.
Yeah, who's this keen character?
Who's this keen guy?
I don't know.
Risky.
It should be pitching.
He was good when he was there.
I know.
Brendan Beck can come back up at some point.
He's on the 40.
Gary Bradley Hanna on how to be he if to be is pitching and
available.
That's the only thing I'd be interested in because he's been
he was good.
They sent him down to like make space.
And then he got a bone bone spur on his elbow after.
Yeah, the update was that rehabs going well, and he could be
an option by the end, but I don't think he's been active.
Doesn't look like it.
Go up big.
Give me some heel.
Give me some Yarby.
Has Eli Morgan been pitching?
Oh, yeah.
So literally glove win big win big.
All right.
Thanks.
Appreciate you guys.
Go Yanks.
Tell him grams.
Go Yankees.
Da-da-da-da-da.
