In the midst of an unprecedented theatrical run, the makers and cast of Hanumananch met
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at his official residence in Lucknow.
While director, producer Vishal Chaturvedi and lead actor Shobhanav Sathya,
they shared their filmmaking journey with the Chief Minister.
The meeting marked a celebratory high point for the indie project that has emerged as one of the
most astonishing box office success stories of 2026 from India. Made on the modest reported
production budget of around 2 crore rupees that is nearly 210,000 dollars, Hanumananch has turned
conventional commercial cinema metrics on their head. Driven entirely by organic word-of-mouth
marketing rather than multi-crore marketing blitz, the biographical devotional film has surged past
155 crore rupees and that is nearly 16.3 million dollars in gross collections.
The movie is based on the life of Neem Karoli Baba portrayed by newcomer Shobhanav Sathya.
Trade analysts have dubbed the theatrical run a historic new wave with devotional reverence
and authentic storytelling and easily outpaced big-ticket star-driven spectacles.
The meteoric rise of Hanumananch has captured the attention of mainstream Hindi cinema figures.
India's national award-winning filmmaker Aditya Dhar publicly appreciated the film on social media.
On his social media stories, Dhar tagged director Vishal Chaturvedi and admired his work.
Actor Varun Dhawan also recommended the movie to his followers on social media stories.
With tax-free status already granted in Uttarakhand and endorsement from top political
and cultural figures, Hanumananch stands at a rare moment in Indian cinema where grounded
storytelling and not a megastar lineup managed to witness a big win in India.
