Hi Lauren. Well, Alderman Mike Rodriguez says he wants to spend more time with family.
In fact, one of the things he did as alderman was create the ordinance that gives workers paid
time off in Chicago. Representing the 22nd ward has been demanding for him, he said,
especially in the last year when ICE rode through Little Village doing immigration enforcement.
We have some video here. It's taken from his office camera showing ICE on 26th street last
year. Alderman Rodriguez was outside his office monitoring ICE activity last October
when two of his office staffers were picked up and detained for seven hours. He was recording
his own video when flash grenades were tossed his way. He is seen running from the smoke.
Rodriguez said he was with his wife and son at the time and he witnessed ICE taking a man off
the street. Moments later, a flash grenade at my feet from Greg Bovino's henchman.
Look, we need strong leaders. I hope that I was able to serve my community. I think
I did a decent job and I'm looking forward to the future and being more at home than also
seeing what future leadership looks like in Little Village and 22nd ward in the city of Chicago.
Alderman Rodriguez has been mentoring new alderpersons at city council and he said
he would endorse his chief of staff, Elianne Bahena, should she decide to run for office.
She has not made that decision yet. Alderman Rodriguez will be in office until May and he
says he doesn't know what future holds for him. He does not have his eye on any particular job
right now. Reporting live in Little Village, I'm Joni Lum, Fox Chicago.
