Two Europeans and their Labrador, Louis, embark on a 2,000-mile expedition across the Pacific Northwest in a Toyota Hilux. Their journey takes them through diverse landscapes, from lush rainforests and snowy peaks to arid deserts, while navigating unexpected health crises for their dog and escaping a wildfire.
Two Europeans, an English Lab and a Toyota Hilux set out on a 2000 mile expedition
across the Pacific Northwest. We expected endless forests, beautiful coastlines
and snow-covered mountains, but that was only half the story. This is Luanne the Rover,
exploring the Pacific Northwest. Do you know that feeling when you arrive at a place you've
never been in your life, but it feels like home? That's what happened to us when we passed through
Linden, Washington. Welcome to Holland! We're at a Dutch bakery and I have a stroopwafel cookie.
Our plan was to explore northern Washington,
the Olympic Peninsula and then cross into Oregon and drive to the east.
We spent our first night in Washington in a beautiful lush rainforest. The colors
so vibrant green and the water so fresh and clear, but also very cold coming down from the mountains.
Louis doesn't mind, he likes to splash in the water.
A true Labrador who loves water, but the retriever part, it's a bit embarrassing Louis.
Come on!
It's our first time in Washington, actually the first time in the Pacific Northwest.
Over the years we've seen so many images and videos about this region and we are so happy
to experience it now in real life. The scenery changed from forests to mountains as we drove
further. What an amazing place! After a great morning in the mountains we stopped to have some
lunch. Being here surrounded by volcanoes and glaciers with the glow of the sun is incredible.
The road collapsed! Okay, it wasn't that spectacular of a collapse. We drove further and higher up the
mountain in search for a place to camp with a spectacular view of Mount Rainier.
The weather is totally different today. There's a lot of clouds, we don't see a lot.
It's a beautiful area. I think we set up camp here because over there is Mount Rainier.
But we cannot see it now. We cannot see it yet, but let's relax and maybe clean the car.
We were laughing, but the state of it was terrible with all the dust and dog hairs.
Still no view. We were hoping to have clear skies in the morning, but our night had an unexpected
turn of events. Louis suddenly got unwell, collapsed through his back legs, so we packed up
and rushed to an emergency vet. There he is, 10 hours later. All right, it's 10 in the morning.
We arrived here 10 in the evening, so we stayed here for 12 hours waiting for all the tests.
All night long. All night long. He couldn't walk, he couldn't do anything.
And then they made x-rays and they did blood tests. And it was pretty simple. There was
something in his stomach and he needed to poop it out. Now he pooped and it's going way better.
So let's see how it develops. We've arrived at the Hohe River. It's beautiful here. It's a perfect
place to relax for a bit. Let's see how he is doing and if he can... The patient. If he's the old Louis, I think.
Louis, relax, relax. You're in love. Okay, he's still wagging his tail.
Luckily we've got our crazy silly Louis back, for now at least.
We sat outside looking up at the sky. The hospital visit was a reality check for us.
How quickly things can change and we shouldn't take anything for granted.
So now we are enjoying our trip even more. Soaking up every moment, appreciating the little things.
I think we can say Louis is recovered again. We're on the beach on Ruby Beach, Olympic.
The next couple of days we took it easy for Louis and for ourselves.
These moments give us the perfect opportunity to learn something new.
So lately we've been using Rosetta Stone Sapphire, their all-new language learning program,
to finally start learning Spanish. Sapphire is a completely new Rosetta Stone experience,
with a new interface and new ways to actually put what you've learned into practice. One of the new
Sapphire features we really like is chat missions, where you can actually practice conversations
based on real-life situations. So you're not just memorizing words, you're learning how to use them.
And because actually speaking a language is probably the hardest part,
true accent gives us instant feedback on our pronunciation.
And if you're wondering what we just said,
maybe it's time to start learning Spanish too. You can try the all-new Rosetta Stone Sapphire
from just 15 pounds with access to all 25 languages. Our exclusive link is in the description below.
Ready for the desert? All right. Okay, so we're heading out into the outback of the US,
into the desert. Nice. Just one hour into the desert and we feel like we are on another planet.
We never expected to find this in the Pacific Northwest. What an amazing place,
and it's called Christmas Valley. Dusty tracks and hot springs, a perfect combination.
Day two in the desert. It's so dusty. And 35 degrees. Yeah, it's hot. That's 35 in Celsius.
The tracks started to become more challenging due to washouts, but nothing our Hilux can't handle.
The change of scenery is incredible. We went from rainforest to snowy peaks to desert in just
a couple of days. We never expected so much diversity. This adventure has it all. And
it's not even finished yet, because now we entered the Canyonlands.
Another spectacular region in the east of Oregon. We slowed down to take it all in.
It almost feels unreal. We're driving to our last destination. What we didn't know then
is that we would pack up and leave as soon as possible, just a few hours later.
Camp spot again, huh? Yeah. Wow, it's so beautiful. But it's hot. 35 degrees? Yeah, it's very hot.
Let's cool down for a bit. If you're a foodie, please skip the next scene,
because Patrick's cooking will make you cry.
It's okay, because he's the only one eating this. At three in the morning, we rushed out of this
place. We have two emergencies. Louis has exactly the same as last time we went to the ER with him,
huh? He doesn't want to walk, he doesn't want to move. We were thinking, okay, let's
take it over the night, see how it goes tomorrow.
And then a lot of smoke around us, and the smell of forest fire, how do you call it?
Just regular fire, smoke, everything. And we arrived in Boise, Idaho.
It was a really strange period the last few hours. So we escaped the wildfire,
there was smoke everywhere. I'm really glad we moved away from that spot, huh Orla? Yeah.
And we booked a hotel and went to the veterinarian to research more on Louis.
And we have a diagnostic. Long story short, there is something in his prostate
that gives him referred pain. And yeah, then he doesn't want to walk anymore.
So today they can already do the surgery. So that's really good. We're in good hands now.
So for the rest of the day we will chill a little bit and wait for Louis till he's done with the
surgery. So we ate our way around Boise. You will own a LandCruiser 79 series. Are you ready for
round two? There's a lot. Potato. The classic Idaho ice cream potato. What an amazing trip.
Louis, you're happy you're back on the road again? Speak. It was a roller coaster of emotions,
but in the end we had such a great time here. We never expected to see so much different landscapes
in just one road trip. We're happy Louis is doing better and can't wait for what's to come next
in Idaho, Montana and Wyoming. See you in the next video.
