Fox seven. Austin Weather with meteorologist Zach. She is happy Labor
Day. Everybody. The showers we had yesterday roaming central Texas were
long gone. First thing this morning with clear skies and with a full morning of
sunshine, we're in that hot zone before you know it. And this is where we had
the rain yesterday. Estimated rainfall showing pockets of rain didn't add up
the whole lot. We had two hundreds around Lake Travis. We had two hundreds
and burn it. The big rain winter was up in Milam County, over half an inch of
rain in Cameron, 10th of an inch in Giddings, over a quarter of an inch in
Lockhart. And we're calling for more pop up showers here in the next few
hours as the lingering tropical moisture from Edward is still here in
central Texas. It is gonna break apart a little bit as we go throughout the
week. So after today, the door closes shut for any more precipitation in the
prime location for rain after today will be up and down the coastal plains.
We have this upper level disturbance moving on by. That's what energized the
atmosphere, creating the clouds and some rain kept our highs below 100. As
that low moves farther and farther away from us, the rain chances will
disappear and areas out across the hill country. Since you're closer to that
upper low, we'll have the best chance, not a great chance at 30% here in the
next few hours, 20% for everybody else. As we take it hour by hour, you can see
those showers initiating with the heat of the day out of the hill country, not
expecting severe weather flooding, but look out for some lightning. If you're
gonna be on the area lakes or in the swimming pool and then late in the day,
those showers will dissipate clearing skies tonight and then less pop up
showers coming at you tomorrow. If we do see some rain today, especially out
the hill country, the rain totals will be very low under a quarter of an inch
and we need some more rain around here desperately. As we wrapped up that
rainy spring and early summer, we were in great shape in late July, only 30%
of Texas and drought mode. Now it's jumped up to 57% of the Lone Star state
in drought mode, mainly a level one around here and normally dry
conditions out across the hill country. And with the lack of rain lately, more
water usage and higher evaporation rates, the lakes are going down. Lake
Travis dropped about a foot in the last week. Still great shape, 94% full Lake
Buchanan at 97% full heading out to the lakes. Have fun, be safe and enjoy water
temperatures in the eighties. It's air that you can wear. Not only is it hot,
it's very humid. It's gonna remain that way all week long, and the wind's not
gonna help us out staying on the light side. That air is gonna be very
stagnant and uncomfortable already in the low to mid nineties will wrap up
the day in the mid upper nineties. If you're lucky enough to see a shower
cooling off a lot quicker in the eighties and then all of us will have
to wait until late evening for us to drop below 90 than seventies. First
thing tomorrow morning is not only the heat we have to deal with, but the high
humidity making it feel like a sauna. We're talking about feels like numbers
right around 100 to 105. So where's this heat dome going? Well, it's gonna
wobble back and forth in the next seven days, but it never fully releases
his grip on us. So that means less rain and even hotter times are ahead this
week. The countdown is on. We're 15 days away from the official start toe
fall. The problem is we're gonna have to wait a little bit longer for a
significant cool down for the next two weeks. Pretty good chance we're gonna
stay hotter than average, with most of the rain either in the Midwest or along
the Gulf Coast. But beyond the seven day forecast, Climate Prediction
Center and some of the long rain forecast models are hinting at the
possibility of the blocking I shifting to the east, and this could open the
door for more Pacific systems to impact our weather and hopefully increase our
rain chances. So for this Labor Day, we're heading for 98 with a clown sun
mix, hot and steamy and a 20% chance of rain today. After today, the rain
chances go bye bye, and we're gonna start up another triple digit streak
with high pressure, large and in charge rounds arounds of sunny, dry skies and
highs right around 100 101.
