AI GeneratedLou interviews Bob Houston at the Lakewood Yacht Club in Texas, showcasing Bob's 1967 Pontiac Bonneville. The video highlights the car's original condition, its historical connection to Bob's grandfather, and the unique experience of driving a \"fast couch\" that evokes the feeling of 1967.
Hi, I'm Lou with another episode of My Car Story. I'm in Seabrook, Texas at the Lakewood Yacht Club
and I met Bob Houston in Texas. And Bob, what year making model is this one? 1967 Pontiac Bonneville.
You're gonna like this one. A little windy out here and by the water, but as you can see this
one well with those stacked headlights it looks just great. Now Bob, you have had this car for
how long? About six years. So six years for this car and why this car out of all the cars in the
world? My grandfather worked for Pontiac and they always had big Bonnevilles like this.
So it came back and we've got the stacked headlights as you can see
the word Bonneville there and the beak. Notice that arrowhead is perfect and the reason why I
say that is if you come if you come over there you'll see that that arrowhead would be the first
thing that would hit the parked car in front of you if you happen to ding it. We have the correct
Pontiac Motor Division hub caps there. This one features the 400 and as we step back
we specifically have the windows down so that you can see that hard top look right there. I'm
going to step back just a bit to get all of that in right there and even the sun came out for us
on that one. Now notice this car does not have a vinyl top on it and that is quite different.
We have the Bonneville there. We're going to show you the back of the car. Notice you have
the word Bonneville there and as we come back here it has that great back with the tail lights
dipping down. Bob you have the keys for this one? I did notice that the gas goes back here
but notice this 1784. Why is that number here? That is the last four of the van. Is that right?
So let's open this and in this car we have some trunk and treats. So we have
I wonder what the other car makers are doing this year. We've got the girl by the pool
talking about notice the four-door hard top here the Delco Pleasureizer.
I don't have to say anything there and the Delco Energizer. The Energizer
and the Pleasureizer warranties. Your slip-on visor card holder came from Westward Pontiac but notice
some of these features on this one the four-door hard top the $31 paint two-tone standard.
$31.07 and the total price $48.2738 for this car. Your fuel filters, your Bonneville here,
your Ventura, your Catalina. Actually that's not the Bonneville that's the
Ventura but as we come over here in 1967 Pontiac the brochure we have the Grand Prix
and your Bonneville four-door like we have here. There it is just like so and she's comfortable
in her Bonneville as he's taking out to the boatyard which is right where we're at today
and this one the Catalina, the Ventura, your Executive Safari Catalina, your Bonneville
station wagon like the two-tone on that, your woodgrain here, the GTO, your two plus two,
the Le Mans, the Tempest, some of our choices, the Tempest wagon. Be hard to find one of those.
Your engine specifications. Tailor your Pontiac for that one. This is your Catalina.
I'll go slow enough where you could stop that if you need to.
Tailor their Pontiac the way you'd prefer it. Some of the basic engines,
our owner's manual, some of the guarantees, your new Pontiac warranty, some of the accessories,
fire extinguisher, vanity mirror, floor mats just to name a few,
your fender skirts which we have on this vehicle,
lots of nice toys there. We spent a little time on that. We'll close that actually just before I go
and the back of the book shows your GTO and different engines you can get for some of these.
It's pretty cool. All right and we'll close that just before
your jack stowage, your jack usage. Let's close that. What do you feel like when you're
bringing this to a car show? Well it's just different. You never see them so that's what
I like about it. Have you seen another one? I have not seen another one. Really? So you're
looking and you're not seeing. May I open it? Sure. Let's open this door and I want to show
you both doors open. Yeah go ahead. You can see that pillar there and it enters like so.
I really like the color choices on this one. Do we know what the color is?
The uh I think it's just standard gold. Standard gold. Look at the nice material
on the seats. You've got those nice plush buttons there. We'll close that
as I feature your door skin here with all of the power and take a look at that instrumentation.
That's really done well. You have your Pontiac. There's your 1784 that you saw on the back.
Your brake. Nicely how they chrome all the pedals. The energy absorbing. What were some
of the things when you're restoring this that were challenging to find Bob? Um the emblems.
The emblems. So what do we have here? We have a tilt wheel. No that's just your turn signal.
Turn signal and then this is your hazards. That's the hazards. And this is your adjustment for that.
I like how your temperature control there. We have it on de-ice. How long was the restoration?
Took me, it was a pretty nice car so it only took me about four or five months. Wow. Everything
works but the clock. Is that right? And does the clock, is the clock working now? No I have another
I like how you have the Indian head with the your name on there specifically built for. I like the
grab handle kind of giving that feel of the GTO and even the rim with this nice kind of clear coat
to it. I think it's called Lucite. Lucite thank you. And what is this button here next to the?
That is the uh the electric fan. Electric fan got it. And the energy absorbing there's our horn
and our feature there. And there we have our engine. Was there anything difficult
in the engine compartment finding that? No it was pretty much all there. And this is our 400.
You get your Harrison air on that. I like the Delco energizer. What's the orange tag?
That was the Bendix uh I guess it was remade the master cylinder. Really interesting.
Let's fire it up shall we? Okay. Let me listen to the exhaust. Bob just for grins put it in
reverse for a second would you please? There's those lights. Okay thanks you can put that back
and uh there's our tail lights. Well you can't even hear it. Give it a rev would you please?
Oh it's over here. Single one. Go ahead. One more time. Nice. We'll take you back to the car.
I think we got to take this thing for a ride. Okay. Let's go. As we start our ride I'd show
you this in the glove box on your tire inflation. How's it feel driving it? Like a fast couch.
Like a fast couch. Look what we have parked out in front of the building too. Nice GT350
as you can see. I'm enjoying the car show. Have you been to this one before? I did it two times
before. And what was your experience? The first time I just literally uh cleaned my white walls
and entered and I won best to show. The second time I pulled out all the stops and didn't even
get a glimpse. Isn't that the way it works? I guess yeah. Yeah you do nothing you get the award
you do everything nothing happens. Yeah pretty much. Yeah that is hysterical. Yeah I detailed
that thing for two weeks before the second time. Well you had such great success the first time
you figure now if I really put an effort in let's see what happens. All right. And we'll show people
a little bit about where we're at here. Driving the boat to the yacht club. There you go driving
the boat to the yacht club. As you can see right here like so. And that's where the yacht club's
going to be. Great cruiser. More boats. More water. So you shared you haven't seen it anymore. What's the
reaction when we're driving? I've already seen people looking at us. A lot of people don't even know what
Pontiac is anymore. Yeah yeah good point. It's been gone a while. It has been gone a while. And they always
say the wrong name. Catalina or Wildcat. Yeah Wildcat, Catalina. Most people think it's a Cadillac.
I can see why they would think that. It's actually the same car as a Sedan DeVille.
Is that right? Well it's a wonderful cruiser as I'm just showing people a little bit about where
we're going. You can turn around and bring them back to the boat club. It actually had a higher
sticker than some of the Cadillacs for that year. Well I guess based on what you have as options
right? Yeah. I mean that would be the real key. Air conditioning is 10% of it. Okay.
Let's see this boat turn. That was pretty good. Yeah. We only had four lanes to do it in. Yeah.
Four lanes no problem. Yeah I can wheel this boat around pretty good.
You brought it right to the harbor. Nice. We actually nicknamed this car Shamu.
Now you're also a fan of the channel. I am. How long you been watching?
I bet you it's been close to 10 years. Is that right? Thank you so much. I appreciate your
support. Absolutely. Yeah it was great. It's always great to come out to something like
Keels and Wheels and then meet people who've been watching the channel for a long time.
It's just a lot of fun and then it's like you meet new friends. I mean we got a chance to hang
out and do your car and take a look at this. All the boats. Look at that. You have a lot of great
original cars and that's always the hardest thing is to keep them original. You know it's easy
anybody can go buy rims and change it all up. It's a lot more expensive to keep them original.
Yeah well the reason why I like that is that's my preferred car. I don't mind if they've got
some day two stuff just going to happen. There's our Keels and Wheels Yacht Club 2
poster right there. Yeah I mean you know that's going to happen sometimes. I mean cars are 20,
30, 40, 60, 70 years old. But yeah whenever you can do that and I'll use today as an example.
It literally feels like we're right back in 1967. Yeah. You know just a wonderful time.
We'll just show people a little. This car was actually built on my birthday.
Really? Yeah it was built on my birthday but about uh I think I was born in 73. It was built in 66.
Is that right? I got the build sheet. I thought that was pretty interesting. What's your what's
your birthday? 922. 922. Let's see if we can go around this guy. Yeah well that's the fun of
these shows. We got something interesting in front of us. We'll run the stop sign in front
of the cops. Why they're flagging us in. That's my story. You can go right under the gate. He
doesn't need the gate. Yeah. Just go right under it. Oh he's he should have. Oh he's got to make
sure he gets the hump just right. Yeah. Got it. Well Bob what a pleasure. So much fun meeting you.
So much fun getting a chance to share your car. Thanks so much for being on my car story. You're
very welcome. My pleasure.
