What's up guys, welcome to this video. Today we are in the highlands of Iceland.
We just spent the past like a couple hours driving
up this little riverbed, doing a bunch of river crossings.
Last night we camped out up here and then drove a little bit further in.
But today we're doing some long range with the new Helion
Pro. This is like kind of the top of the line long range drone on the market.
I've had very few flights with it, so this is really like the perfect place to
test it out. There's a valley over here that's like
has this huge glacier inside of it, and so the plan is to
just try to send this thing all the way up to the glacier
and back. I'm gonna do two flights, let's get started with the first.
So today I'm using the DJI Goggles 3, DJI RC3,
and then filming on the GoPro Hero 13. If you guys are interested in getting 10%
off on GoPro's website on the Hero 13, just use code MIGGY10 for 10% off.
Without further ado, let's do this thing.
All right, so there's some cool stuff up here that I wanted to check out.
So as I'm going out there, I'll do a little quick fly through here.
So first off, on the way over to the glacier, I'm just gonna hit this little
ridgeline, just because I know it's all in line of
sight and it just looks like such an epic spot. I
actually have a photo here, a photo from here from like 2018, which
is like one of my all-time favorite photos,
where me and some friends hiked up to the top of it,
and it is September here, so all the like rich greens and all those really
cool colors are starting to turn yellow. Sort of pretty. Okay, so now
basically just gonna head straight for that glacier.
I should be able to hit this little green area right here. I don't know if I'm
gonna be able to make it to the glacier. We're already at like
1.5 kilometers away and I don't feel like I'm getting that close.
So we'll see, but even this area is so pretty.
So like I said, I know this little area right here
is in line of sight just by looking in my goggles. So I'm gonna fly close
here before I head up to the... And I think one of the reasons why it's
going kind of slow to get over there is there's a
headwind, so the wind's just kind of blowing us back.
Oh I'm getting low signal, that's weird. Might have just changed frequencies.
Sometimes when you're flying on 04, the goggles just automatically switch
frequencies and so you get those yellow bars.
Because range-wise I should be totally fine.
So I'm gonna go that way. We're at three kilometers away
at 20 volts total, about 3.41 per cell.
Never want that to go under three. And I think the wind will actually help us on
the way out. Wow, this is so pretty. Going backwards.
So let's just hit this ridgeline. Oh, I'm losing connection. Let's see.
Yep, it just bumped back up. That's always scary, but it's usually
just DJI adjusting the output power.
All right, I'm getting some solid yellow bars, so I'm actually going to come back
just to be safe. We have one more flight to do.
So we get a bit of a nice dive in. This direction definitely is not going to
look quite as nice as the other one because it's going to be all front lit.
But 3.6 kilometers or so. Pretty solid flight. You can see where we
are back there. And then I'm going to dive this little
area. I should be able to see the car here
soon. And once I see our exact home point, then
I can just keep an eye on that and make sure to never go out of view.
I got the car now. So if I just stay high,
I can fly this ridgeline. Voltage is still looking totally fine.
We're at like seven minutes of flight time.
Okay, yeah, what I'm going to do is I'm going to come over here
and then I'm going to flip back around and come towards us.
If you guys are wondering why I'm able to get so much flight time,
it's mainly because, well, it's obviously because I'm using a huge drone.
But also I'm using lithium-ion batteries and they just have
like a lot more, you can put a lot more juice into them. They're just not as
punchy as LiPo batteries. So you're not going to be able to do
like crazy maneuvers. But I really like them because also long
range, I'm never really doing anything too crazy.
So basically what I'm doing now is I'm just keeping that white dot in the
distance. I'm trying to keep that always in view
because if that goes out of view, that means we lost line of sight.
As long as that stays in, we're good.
Sick! So flight number one down. I'm gonna change batteries and send up
another one. And this time I'm gonna really try to make it to the glacier.
What's going on guys? Taking a quick break in the video here before we get to
the second flight where I actually do make it out to those waterfalls.
I gotta be honest with you guys, the last six months for me
have been pretty rough. So about three months ago I started seeing a therapist.
I really didn't know where to start and heard a lot of other people talking
about BetterHelp, so I went to the site and signed up.
I am so happy that I did make that decision. So it was weird timing when
they reached out to me about a month ago to sponsor a video.
So yeah, a few months ago I was not doing very well. It was really bleeding into my
work and really the entire rest of my life.
I have amazing friends and a great support group, but sometimes you just
need someone who's completely separate from that to give you an outside
perspective on things. Even after the first session I just felt
so much better. I think one of the biggest things that I
learned is that I have this habit of kind of like over-complicating things
even when I don't need to. Like if a situation is somewhat simple,
for some reason in my head I just make it a lot more complex.
And just kind of being aware of that and knowing that has helped so much.
I don't know why it took me so long to actually start seeing a therapist.
I think I just had this idea in my mind that it was super complicated
and I just felt weird about sharing my problems with someone that I didn't know,
but that's kind of the beauty of it.
BetterHelp, who is the sponsor of today's video, just makes it easy.
All I had to do to connect to a licensed therapist was go to the site,
fill out a short questionnaire, and then they matched me with someone within a day.
And if it's not the right fit, you can switch therapists at no extra cost.
So if you have been thinking about therapy, this might be your sign to give it a try.
Just hit the link in the description down below or go to betterhelp.com
and you can get 10% off your first month.
Huge thanks to BetterHelp for sponsoring this video.
And more importantly, thank you for just making an amazing platform.
All right, let's get back to the video.
All right, guys.
So round two.
I don't know if you noticed about the first flight,
but it didn't look that great on the GoPro,
just because a lot of the flight I was heading towards the sun.
When you're shooting really any content,
you want to be like at a 90 degree angle to the sun.
So when I watched the footage back, I realized that
this flight, I'm going to kind of come from further to the right
and go up this direction just away from the sun.
So we'll see if that helps.
Ideally, in this situation, you want to be,
for FPV, you want to be kind of high so you can look down
and you just get a lot more line of sight for things.
But this situation is just,
we're kind of limited because we're down in this canyon.
We're at one kilometer and we're still kind of going towards the sun.
There's just not like that much you can do
because the feature is over there.
But this time, at least I kind of know
where the signal is dropping and all that.
I'm just going to keep checking like in real life
to see what's in line of sight.
And really this whole peak
directly in the middle of the screen right now is in line of sight.
So instead of going to the one on the left
that I did last time, I'm going to take this one.
All right, we're at two kilometers.
Let's see, I got 40 megabytes down in the corner.
Decent.
I really, really, really want to fly
and dive those glacial waterfalls up at the top.
So that's the goal.
Okay, so now I'm out of the direct sun.
The image should be a little bit better.
You can see those really pretty light streaks.
Yeah, I'm dropping megabytes.
Pretty heavy right now.
I don't know what the deal with that is.
I'm at 10.
That's not dope.
And it doesn't seem to be regaining.
Weird, I'm in red.
And I'm at 30.
That is strange.
I've flown over four kilometers.
Like I've flown eight kilometers with the drone before.
So I'm a little confused.
I'll keep going just a little bit.
Up at 20.
Man, that yellow bar is just haunting me right now.
I think what I'm going to do is I'm going to try to fly this direction
because I know these peaks are also in line of sight.
And I'm wondering if it's just bouncing weird or something in that location.
I really want to go to the rivers.
I feel like I can do it.
I'm holding pretty strong above 10.
We're at 4.6 kilometers.
I'm so close.
I might as well just do it.
We're kind of in the clouds now too.
Okay, let's do it.
Just go around here.
We're at five kilometers.
Proper long range.
Got a nice rainbow.
Oh, let's go.
It's so sick.
All right, that's pretty much all I wanted to do there.
I'm like, my heart is beating with how yellow my goggles are.
I'm getting low-ish voltage, so I probably should come back
given that I'm five kilometers away.
Full red bars now.
I was kind of hoping those waterfalls were a little bit bigger to dive.
Still was really cool.
All right, and then depending on voltage,
I'm going to try to fly the other side of the valley
kind of close to where we are.
So I'm going to fast forward this part until we're back a little bit closer.
All right, so we're looking solid on voltage.
So basically, I'm just going to fly over to these little areas
and do some little gap shooting and stuff.
All right, we're on the way back.
I'm just kind of hitting some little tiny small things on the way.
One of the very best things about FPV is just getting to explore places
that you either can't hike to or it'd be really hard to hike to.
It's just like, it feels like you're really just exploring new places.
Right behind us, you can kind of see the car down in the bottom,
but that volcano right there is actually the volcano
that the movie Walter Mitty was based off of.
It's pronounced like Eyjafjallajökull or something.
It's some Icelandic name.
But running off of this volcano is just so many glacial valleys, rivers,
waterfalls, and just crazy landscapes that you can't access
because we have no way of getting across that river right now.
So I'm going to bring it back and land this thing.
All right, guys, well, that is it for this video.
Thank you guys for watching.
