AI GeneratedThe U.S. military targeted three Iranian oil tankers in retaliation after Iran's Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) fired ballistic missiles at a U.S. aircraft carrier and a guided missile destroyer. While the U.S. ships evaded the attacks with no casualties, the U.S. responded by striking the tankers to impose a high economic cost on Tehran.
The U.S. military strikes three Iranian oil tankers in a new round of retaliation.
I'm John Scott and this is a brand new hour of the Fox Report.
The strikes come after CENTCOM says Iran's Revolutionary Guard fired ballistic missiles
at two American warships. Both ships evaded the attacks. CENTCOM says no American personnel were
hurt. We have Fox team coverage now. Alex Hogan standing by at the White House. But we begin with
Chief Foreign Correspondent Trey Yingst, who's reporting live in the Gulf region. Trey.
Yeah, John, good afternoon. We are tracking these latest developments as the U.S. military says
they targeted three Iranian oil tankers after U.S. warships came under direct attack from the IRGC.
This all started on Friday night when, according to CENTCOM, multiple waves of missiles were fired
by Iran at a U.S. aircraft carrier and a guided missile destroyer. That drew that U.S. response,
targeting these Iranian oil tankers. And it raises real questions now about this new battle for the
Strait of Hormuz. We do know that CENTCOM Commander Admiral Brad Cooper released a
statement saying, let the message to the IRGC be clear. If you shoot at two of our ships,
we will impose an even higher economic cost, taking out three of yours. Cooper goes on to
say, we will not hesitate to defend American forces and, if necessary, destroy Iran's limited
and exposed oil fleet. All of this taking place as the ongoing U.S. naval blockade is affecting
the Iranian economy. That, coupled with the ongoing sanctions, are targeting regime officials
in Tehran. The Trump administration hoping that this changes Iranian behavior and eventually
changes the situation in the Strait of Hormuz. But again, the latest information that we have
here from the region in the Gulf indicates that the United States has targeted three
Iranian oil tankers in response to missile attacks on U.S. warships. John? Two of those
tankers, the video makes pretty clear, Trey, were disabled. The engine room was the site of the
strikes. The third one was a much bigger attack. It's my understanding that that tanker was empty,
wasn't carrying oil, and that's why the U.S. decided to go after it more vigorously?
Yeah. And in local media reports in Iran, there are indications that the United States actually
communicated with these vessels beforehand to ensure that sailors on board were not killed.
Iranian state media released a clip of the U.S. Navy communicating directly with one of the vessels
telling the control room to evacuate the backside of the ship to ensure that people were not killed
in these strikes. And so it's an indication that the U.S. military wants to send a very clear
message of force to the Iranians, but they're not looking to kill civilians in the process.
As this moves forward, though, there are questions about how the Iranians will respond.
Gulf countries across the region have indicated they are concerned about this given the fact that
many of them have come under direct Iranian attack this year. And we saw just last week
the Iranians launching new missiles at U.S. forces in Jordan and the United States conducting a
series of strikes against this coastal area of southwestern Iran, again, to try to reduce the
number of threats to commercial vessels in this critical waterway. The Strait of Hormuz remains
an area of focus. And despite the fact that the United States is escorting millions of barrels
of crude oil out of the Gulf each day, you still have the IRGC launching attacks in this area,
and they have now expanded those attacks, not just targeting commercial vessels,
but also the U.S. military. All right, Trey Yankst reporting live from the Gulf region.
