He discusses a strategic balance between professional-grade gear and affordable alternatives, emphasizing the importance of being prepared for any scenario while maintaining a tiered bag system for different task complexities.
Today I'm gonna be going over this DIY bag I have.
I'm gonna show you 30, maybe 30 plus tools.
I can't live without.
I have to have these tools in this bag
and I'm gonna show you why.
Hold on.
Okay, so this is the Velocity Rogue 20XL.
Love this bag.
It holds everything I need held.
The only problem is it's a little over 30 pounds,
about 30 and a half pounds.
So I do have another bag.
I've got a, I call it a 90% bag.
It's my Rogue 100.
And I also got a Veto Pro Pack SPMC that I use
that I kind of use it as my 90%.
If I know what I'm getting into,
if I'm just going over there to do some,
put together furniture, hang pictures, hang curtain rods,
I'll just bring that smaller bag.
But don't know what I'm getting into, I bring this bag.
In fact, I always bring this bag anyway.
I just keep it in the truck because you never know.
So let's go through it here real quick.
Like I said, I got plenty, I got a plumbing bag,
I've got the electrical bag, I got different bags.
This is just my main DIY do everything bag.
Let's get into it.
So we'll start with this in here.
I've got the Klein 16 feet tape.
I love this tape because it's got writing on both sides,
of course, and it does have that wide blade on here.
One of my favorite stud finders of all time
is the Franklin Sensor stud finder.
This thing is just awesome.
I just did a short on the new Klein stud finder.
I'll tell you this Franklin Sensor
just operated flawlessly, always does.
Let's see, I got an ink saw, six inch Milwaukee bit.
I don't know why it's in there.
Guess I used it, didn't put it up.
Here's my Klein non-contact voltage tester.
I've got the Pica Pencil here.
Now this is the Hazette flashlight.
This got a, here's the reason I have it in here.
It's two buttons, you press a button once
for the spotlight, if I can find the button,
press it once for the spotlight here,
press it again for the side light, that's it.
It does those two buttons
and it does have like little retractable,
how do I get this up?
Little retractable belt clip.
Oh, it goes out this way.
As you can see, got a little belt clip here,
but when you don't need it, you just press it in.
It's flat in here.
I have got the Rockler 10 inch framing hammer.
Well, framing hammer, it's a 10 inch hammer,
it's not a framing hammer.
If I do any framing or if I have any heavy duty work to do,
I'll bring my 20 ounce on.
This just stays in here just to cut weight on this bag
cause it's a little bit shorter.
And then I've got this, the Klein torpedo level.
Now this is a torpedo level, it's got that aluminum frame.
It's got the V groove here, of course,
it's got magnets on the back.
But you know what?
You can see I've lost a couple of these magnets,
they came out.
But I tell you, I really liked this level.
It's nice and lightweight.
It's not as heavy as those full anodized aluminum ones.
Okay, let's go to the other side here.
This is my PB Swiss bit holder.
And it also has the bits hidden in the handle here.
If I could get them out.
There we go.
These bits are in a carousel here.
This is just that little orange acetate,
reddish orange acetate handle.
It's got flutes in it.
Does have a nice strong magnet here.
This is just an awesome, awesome little tool here.
I love these PB Swiss drivers.
Up here, this one's new.
This is my tough belt drywall jabsaw.
It is folding as you can see.
Does have a lock, you just press this and this comes down.
And I got some extra blades
where you can change the blades out on these.
And now let's get out all faithful.
You guys, you love to crap on.
This is the Amazon Basics four bolt screwdriver.
This thing is freaking awesome.
It's 20 bucks.
Like I said, I just like quality tools.
I don't care if they are inexpensive.
This is inexpensive.
I think I paid $20 for this.
They range anywhere from 20 to 24.
If you don't believe me,
there's all kinds of videos from Torque Test Channel
you can go look at.
There's a lot of people doing videos.
I've got three or four videos pitting this
against the more expensive Bosch
and other ones like that.
It's got three torque settings here as you can see.
And of course you just got forward and reverse.
And this thing is awesome.
When it's torque settings,
make sure you don't strip screws out.
I use this all the time.
I do a lot of woodwork.
I use a small wood screws,
very, you know, sometimes half inch small wood screws.
I'll put on the lowest torque setting
and this thing is perfect for that.
It's easily, you know, you can easily maneuver it
and stop when you want to stop
unlike a big impact or even a drill.
That's the Amazon Basics four volt.
Now this is the Johnson, a little small Johnson level.
I have the Stabilo, you know, a level.
Now this one is just plastic.
The Stabilo's got that anodized aluminum here.
This is just plastic, but I tell you what,
you put them side by side, they all work together.
They work the same.
So this is a little bit less expensive.
I kind of like that it's plastic
and it's hanging on the outside.
I'm not worried about it.
I mean, I don't want to lose it,
but if I do lose it,
I don't like losing that $35, $40 Stabilo.
So that's the Johnson small level.
This is a Milwaukee.
Now this Milwaukee light here
is one that operates on AA batteries.
I've got some extra AA batteries in here.
There are a couple of lights that I like
that are not USB charging.
You have to put AA batteries in here
and I always have extras
because when it does go out and you need to charge it,
it's always at the wrong time
because you're using the light.
You need the light because you're using it.
So this one, I could just replace the batteries
and keep going.
So I always at least have one of these
that's not USB-C charging that I can make sure
I've got extra batteries for.
Now my favorite light in this bag is this.
It's the Olight Baton Ultra 4
and it is in the OAL aluminum.
This is the Ultra.
It's in the OAL aluminum.
This thing is just awesome.
You've got a magnetic base here.
It is USB-C charging.
You just spin that cap
and you can see the USB-C charger there.
It also has a magnetic charger
if you wanna charge it magnetically.
I never do.
I always just use the USB-C ports on here.
Just a great little light.
I tell you, I really like that light.
And here we have the Tuffbilt knife.
I don't need the,
I've got a lot of different of these knives.
This one here is probably the most smallest
that feels the best in my hand
as far as they feel like I can work with it
because it does have a little bit of width here.
And I don't know, I just like it.
I love these little Tuffbilt knives.
I don't, I mean, I like the larger ones also,
but this one is definitely the best Tuffbilt
I think they have.
Okay, and here we got the ratcheting stubby screwdriver,
impact stubby screwdriver.
You can see it ratchets.
Need to put it out.
You can pull this out, put it in your impact.
Just an awesome little stubby here.
I think that's it for the outside.
Let's go, I got one more.
The only thing I have in here,
and I just put it in here
because I just bought it,
is this toolet bit set.
Now this one has got SAE N metric sockets.
It's got a full array of bits here as you can tell.
It's got a locking flex head.
No, it's not locking, I'm sorry.
It's a flex head ratchet with a little handle here.
And of course your extension on this side.
This is probably one of the most complete sets
I've got that's this small.
Kind of like the Icon, the larger Icon set,
but it's a lot smaller than that
because you can fit this in the bag.
And I like it because I'm not worried about it.
Whenever I go over somebody's house to do some work
and all I've got are SAE sockets,
I start getting worried
because I know I'm going to need a metric.
You don't have to worry about that with this toolet.
And I tell you, I don't think they're that expensive.
I think I paid, I think it was $40 I paid for this
off of the, let me get it back in here,
off of the toolet site.
Is that everything in here?
Yep.
Okay.
Let's get into the main bag here.
All right, so here's the main bag.
This one, this particular bag does have magnets here.
As you can see, you got three large magnets here.
I just carry around this little thing
in case I'm working somewhere and I want to,
you know, I think this is a railer.
Yeah, railer.
I'm going to lay it down.
I'll put some screws on it so the screws don't roll away.
I use this and also have the stud buddy on here.
I got a zipper pocket here
where I have these ball-end railer Allen keys, a full set.
I mean, going in, we're very small
cause you can see very large.
And I can probably use this with that PB Swiss bit holder
I've got, or the stubby.
And then I've got two of these, two of these Klein tools.
I've got SAE and metric Allen keys.
If you don't want to use these, you can use these two.
And then here is just a full array of bits.
I've got bits in here.
They're all have this little quarter inch shank on them.
Just to really anywhere from,
I think I got from three eights down to one 16th
on the drill bit.
Okay, let's start over here.
This is the KONIPEX ES Cobras.
I tell you, I love these things.
Now I don't think this is the newer model
cause it doesn't have that screw extraction
but it does have that slimmer head as you can tell.
I really like these.
I did a grip test on them with the little grip rig
and it gripped just like the regular Cobras did.
So, I mean, as far as I'm concerned
I'm going to use these probably a lot more
than the regular Cobras only because they're more versatile.
Okay, over here, this is the Snap-on Talon Grip Pliers.
I don't have my glasses or I'd read that part number
but you know the part number if you've got these.
These things are awesome.
You know, everybody's making them now.
Icon's making them, work pros trying to make them.
But I tell you, to me,
I just love these real Snap-on Talon Grips.
These things are awesome.
And honestly, I use them all the time for stuff.
I use them for needle nose most of the time,
but you know, so I'm not doing heavy work with them
but boy, they come in handy.
And if I needed to grip something
these things are unbelievable the way they grip.
Okay, speaking of Snap-on is this.
This is my beater screwdriver here.
As you can tell, it's a flathead.
I've had this thing for over 10 years.
I just beat the heck out of it.
This doesn't have the metal cap on the end
and I'm sure it's not all the way through.
Let's see if I can see where this thing ends.
It's kind of hard to tell.
Shaft probably ends about here.
But anyway, I just love this thing.
You know, a lot of guys, when I do these,
you go, where are your tools?
Well, I clean my tools for one thing.
You can't clean this
because I'll be using the heck out of it.
But I do use these, but I'm retired.
The only time I use them when I go to a friend's house,
my daughter's house, is just to do work.
I used to, I did my fair share of hard labor
being a union carpenter for 30 years.
But this, this is the Snap-on.
I forgot where I got it.
I just love these Snap-on grips.
I like this four sided grip like this.
These things feel great.
Okay, we go here.
This is the eight inch twin grips,
the old classic twin grips.
Not gonna talk much about it because you know what it is.
It's got that little nut grabbing feature
in the center there.
Just an awesome set of pliers.
It's got this little dip grip with the stippling on here.
You got the texture, so it's easy to clean
and it won't slip out of your hand.
Okay, here we've got the 10 inch.
Now this is the 10 inch angle cutters,
diagonal cutters from Kinepex.
To me, if I'm gonna get some cutters,
I'm gonna get that 10 inch style
because you just got so much more leverage.
Now I've got plenty of the eight inch, six inch,
but these 10 inch,
they don't take up that much room in the bag,
especially this style bag that's nice and tall.
They fit in there great
and man, these are just great cutters.
Okay, now here's my full size ratcheting screwdriver.
Yeah, so this is the 13 in one ratcheting screwdriver
from Kline.
You've got full array of bits here in this carousel.
Got bits here.
These all bits are double sided.
And it is ratcheting.
So just a nice little screwdriver from Kline tools.
Now this is a little Tekton.
I just put it in here, but I've never used it,
but you know what?
I can't wait to use it.
It's got three position Tekton pliers for very small work.
I really should keep it in my small tool bag,
but I like it in here.
You never know when your space is limited.
You got very little room to get in somewhere,
but you need to grab something with these pliers.
That's Tekton, I'm sorry, Tekton pliers.
Okay, here is the Kline.
I think I've got two of these in here.
Maybe not.
Okay, here's the Kline.
We call it the dog bone.
It's a four way wrench.
Just a very nice wrench.
If you can see on the end here,
you do have your forward and reverse selector here
and they make two of these wrenches.
This is a large one.
They also make a smaller one than this.
Just a nice little wrench from Kline.
Okay, here, I missed this one.
This is the Vera diamond bit set.
As you can see here,
these all have that diamond coating on there.
These things are just supposed to last forever.
They're very, very expensive.
I think this one cost me almost $100 just for this set here.
I haven't used them because,
I'm gonna be honest with you,
they're $100.
I am gonna use them.
But it seems like whenever I need something,
I've already got the bit in the tool
and I don't wear it out.
But I do need to use these.
I wanna check these out.
I mean, they're supposed to last a lot longer.
Now, I'm not gonna sit here and lie to you
and say they do last a lot longer
because I haven't really used it.
But this set does come with this little wrap adapter here,
which is my favorite little tool here, holder.
You pull it up, then you put your bit in,
and it just slides right back down and locks it in.
So that's the wrap adapter.
So that's the Vera Diamond One Bit Set.
All right, it's like Christmas getting out of here
because I forgot what I put in here.
Oh yeah, okay, so this is the number two.
This is the PB Swiss Insulated Number Two.
Now look how small that handle is.
That's why I put it in here.
You don't always need a large handle.
If I'm working on breakers or anything like that,
where I always use this one when I'm...
And look, I got some Eaton breakers out there
that I'm changing out once a month.
I think I'm done.
I think I finally finished them,
but I almost replaced every one in the panel.
We had a bad run of breakers,
and I had to replace almost every one of them.
But anyway, this PB Swiss here is nice and small,
as you can see.
Now, they do make larger handle ones,
but I bought this specifically
because it was a smaller handle.
I think I got it from DPRD, something like that.
Okay, here's the GOAT.
This is the Klein Forged Wire Stripper.
It's got the comfort grip handles on there.
They have them now with insulated handles
that I want to try to get,
but I don't have those right now.
Hopefully, I'll get those in soon.
Klein, if you're listening, I need some insulated handles.
These are awesome, though.
I'll tell you, I really like these, Klein.
And you know what?
Klein, Conipex.
These are Conipex Forged Wire Strippers.
I like the Klein, too, though.
Klein's got a forged wire stripper
that works very, very well.
But I just happen to have these Conipex in here,
and maybe I'll interchange it
between the Klein and Conipex.
I like both of them, really.
But man, this thing here, this Conipex is awesome.
Okay, up here, I got a light.
This is the Oak Clip Pro S little light.
This thing is very handy.
The main reason I got this is to look in the bag.
If I'm in a dark place, I can look in the bag
and find exactly what I need, and then it just turns off.
So this is a very cool little light here.
Now, these are the wrenches from Bera Wrenches,
you know, the automatic setting wrenches.
I really like these.
Now, this is the small, and I got the medium here,
small and the medium.
They're double-headed, so this takes four wrenches.
And not only that, the way they're adjustable
takes about three or four wrenches.
So you get two of these,
you got a full set of wrenches on your hand here.
These things are just awesome, made by Bera.
Check them out.
I think they're the 6006 series wrenches from Bera.
All right, here is the Kobalts.
These are the, I think, eight-inch Kobalts from Kinepex.
Very nice.
I got these without the comfort grip.
I've got some with the comfort grip,
but just for size and easy to put in the little pouches
there, I got these that are ungripped.
These things are awesome, and you cut anything.
You know, you cut nails.
I cut nails all the time.
I cut finish nails all the time.
You know, anything you don't wanna mess up your dykes with,
you can grab these and they'll work great.
Okay, here is the Kat Tools slip joint plier.
Now, these are made by Snap-On.
These are Snap-On, as you can see there,
it does say made in the USA.
Basically, Snap-On wrenches with the yellow handle.
I really like them, though.
And the same thing, here's your needle-nose pliers.
Kat Tools needle-nose pliers, made in the USA by Snap-On.
And I tell you, these are just some very cool looking.
Look how cool that head looks.
And that is just an awesome set of pliers there.
I really like that.
Okay, here is your 27-in-1 precision screwdriver.
You got full array of bits here,
and it's a good size, a spinner cap, good size from Kline.
I tell you, it's just hard to beat
these Kline precision screwdrivers.
I really like them.
Let's see what this is.
Oh, this is the GOAT, as far as I'm concerned.
Fujiya makes the best flush cutters on the market,
as far as I'm concerned.
And I've tried, I've basically tried them all, a lot of them.
But Fujiya, to me, look at the finish on this tool here.
I mean, that Fujiya just does such a great job
on these flush cutters.
Not so much on their water pump and pliers, wrenches,
but on the flush cutters, they do a lot better.
I don't know if that's two different factories or what,
but they go to the extra step on these flush cutters,
mainly because I think that's probably
what they're known for, are these flush cutters.
Let's see, now, are these the ones?
Well, I don't think so.
I've got some of them that actually catch the,
it won't let the tip go away, catch the plastic.
I don't think that's these.
Awesome flush cutters, though.
Okay, here is the Milwaukee 12-volt.
Let's see how the battery's doing on this thing.
That's full.
This is the Milwaukee 12-volt subcompact.
Look how small it is.
I mean, this thing basically fits in your palm there.
Just an awesome.
Now, the only thing I don't like about this one
is it doesn't have modes.
You're stuck with one speed.
It does have a variable trigger, of course,
and the trigger works very well,
but I just like the speeds.
But the turn on, for me, is the size.
This thing fits in here easy.
It's an awesome tool.
Yes, Captain, I don't know what we're up to.
This is a 20-in-1 impact with the bit rail.
Now, this bit rail here is SAE,
but somewhere in here, there it is right there,
somewhere in here, I've got a metric bit rail,
so I just keep a metric in here,
so I've got a full set of nut drivers here.
These are double-sided, of course,
and, of course, you got all your bits
right here in the handle.
That's got that little pro-torsion zone in there.
The quarter-inch is magnetic, and it holds this bit here,
and I got two different bit rails for it.
Awesome.
This is another Tekton tool I bought,
only because I think if you got a rusted nut
or you got something that's gonna be tough to get off,
look at that.
Look at these.
They call it the nut buster.
Ha, ha, ha.
And, man, that thing, the teeth on here are very sharp.
The teeth go all the way down from here all the way up
on this side, and it's just made to perfectly fit
like a hex nut there.
This thing would be awesome here.
That's a Tekton.
They're not that expensive
if you get them on the Tekton website.
One of my favorite plier wrenches,
this is a 7 1⁄4-inch
Hazette plier wrench.
As you know, like I say,
you can always set them very easy with one hand.
I mean, you don't even need to.
You don't even need to do it.
You can do it.
If I want it, look at that.
It just sits with ease.
So I love these Knipex.
They're smooth as glass here, as you can tell.
They got great grips on them.
Did I say Knipex?
I meant Hazette.
These Hazette are freaking awesome.
They take it to the next level.
Now, they are expensive.
They're more expensive than the Knipex.
They're more expensive than the Klein.
They're more expensive than most of them out there.
But if you want one of the best,
if you got the extra money,
I'm not telling you to buy it
because it doesn't do anything that the Klein doesn't do.
I just like cool tools,
and this is a very cool tool.
Very nice, polished, machined, great pliers wrench.
And then I got the 7 1⁄4.
Now, this is the ES version,
just like the 12-inch I got,
but this does have the dipped handle.
With the stippling on here,
like I said, it didn't fit on there.
I did a, this one in particular,
I put on that test rig, the 7,
and it held 235 pounds on that test rig.
So you get some grip out of these for sure.
So that's the Knipex ES.
I can't wait, when I review the,
when I go back and look at the footage,
I mess up a lot of names and I don't even think about it.
Like, I think there are a couple of times
I call this a Knipex and maybe a couple of others.
You guys probably have pointed out to me.
Dasko Pro, this is a brand new little tool
I bought when I was,
I put together a made in the USA tool bag.
This was one of little Dasko Pro pry bar.
And up here, oh, this is the EZ Red ratcheting ratchet.
It's got your bit driver here
and it's got your quarter inch ratchet head here.
It is lock, it is a flex head,
does have your little thumb wheel here
and also your forward and reverse switch here.
EZ Red, this is probably one of the best ones
I've found is EZ Reds.
Here are my AA and AAA batteries for that light.
Anything else in here?
I think, oh, no, here's one.
Oh, okay, this is another.
This is what I was looking for.
Another one of those client tool dog bones.
This is a smaller one where we had the larger one.
So make sure that's it.
I just got some bits up in here.
Nothing special, just some small bits.
So that's the Velocity MB20XL loaded down
with everything that I think I need to do a job.
Like I said, when I go to a project,
I typically have that small little, I call it 90% bag.
And then I got this in the truck
and I don't get this out.
It's heavy, especially if I gotta walk upstairs
or whatever, I just take that 90%.
But I'm telling you, when I do that,
I would say half the time I've come down,
I'm getting this bag and bringing it up
because there's always something on these projects
and you're thinking, man, if I had that tool,
it'd be probably a lot easier.
And I could have done it with that 90% bag,
taking me a lot longer, go get the bag.
So maybe I'll start bringing it in, I don't know.
That's it guys, I appreciate you guys watching.
I'll catch you guys next week.
Please subscribe to the channel, I would appreciate it.
And we'll see you next week.
