Hi, welcome to AFTV. I've got lead judges with me. We've just beaten Aston Villa 1-0 here at Villa Park.
You predicted 2-0. It's never really easy coming to Villa Park, is it? Even today,
it felt extremely tough considering their last result was poor against Brighton.
A lot of fans would have thought it would be quite simple, but it wasn't far from that today.
No, listen, I thought they were a really tough opposition today. I thought I was really
impressed with them. I thought they'd give it a good go. The one thing that you could see,
when they played Brighton last week, there were a few things in-house going on and they weren't
quite ready, but today they were up for it. I have to say, I thought as well as they played,
they didn't really cause us any problems. No shots on target from them.
Was it no shots on target? I felt we were very, very comfortable at the back.
Even when the ball went up with eight minutes, I wasn't there panicking like I was last season.
This season, I was a little bit more relaxed. Where did eight minutes come from?
Listen, teams spending money and improving, everybody's improving, everybody's improving.
The refereeing standard is getting worse and worse and worse. It's affecting my enjoyment of the
game. You've been saying this for a while. You've been really on the officials.
That today was a shocking performance from a referee that spoils my enjoyment.
Not just for Arsenal, there were things going on with them as well. I just think they're just
worse and worse. It's ruining football. It's ruining my love for the game, if I'm being honest.
It feels like the referees aren't even refereeing the game. It seems like he's
always waiting for the VAR to decide. There was one decision today. I don't
know if you noticed it. Havertz was offside and the referee gave it.
So what's all that about? The ref blows the whistle and then the lineman runs back there.
It's not good. I've had a beep up my arse.
It's ridiculous. It just spoils the game.
They had a shocker. They had an absolute shocker.
But even still with the shocker from the referee and the officials, we still won the game.
Job done.
Job done, that's all you've got to say.
Straightening pipes or not?
You come out and say, who really had a good game?
I had to think about who really had a good game. Obviously, Declan Rice was outstanding today.
Absolutely outstanding in there. If it ain't for him, we don't win that game.
Califuri, brilliant for the goal. Absolutely brilliant for the goal.
And I thought Sacken was probably our most dangerous player.
He was the best of a bad bunch up front, if I'm being honest.
I'm well impressed with the two on the left side. Zolis today.
Artur acted fast.
He done the right thing. I tell you what, if you're a player and you get fouled
and the referee starts having a word with you and you're on a yellow card,
best thing to do is get off.
Why has Zolis been fouled and the referee's having a word with him, I don't know.
So he's done the right thing there by getting off.
I thought Eze come on was slightly better.
Havertz, not today, you know what I mean, for me.
Worked hard, but you expect that.
And you have to sit there and be like, that's two games now
and your careers has not even had one minute.
So there must be something going on.
But we have got to do something on the left hand side
because today I felt we weren't punchy enough up front.
A lot of people were raving about Zolis and how he started the season, the pre-season.
But I give it to Mikel Teffer, noticing that.
I gave it to Havertz, I said it's not your game today.
Brought on Eze.
Things change a little bit, we end up getting a goal.
But you kind of skip past Viktor Jokic.
I think we need to have a bit of a conversation.
Champions League final didn't start against him.
Come on against Coventry.
Didn't see him start getting the community shield.
Didn't even come on at all today.
Like, that is supposed to be our, you know, we always say
21 goals in all competitions last season.
He must be thinking, how am I going to get into this side?
Is it something in training?
Is it something he's done?
No, I don't know.
I think there may be something in it.
Like, because if Havertz started last season,
20 minutes from the end Jokic has come on and vice versa.
And like, if there was a game for Jokic today
where it was a bit physical in there and everything like that.
And I think Havertz, if I'm being honest, worked his socks off.
You know what I mean?
There was a moment where he looked spent.
There was a moment where he was spent.
You know what I mean?
I don't know if he was laying down.
Yeah, he was.
You know what I mean?
I get it.
I get it there was substitutions where players got injured
and all that.
But there, you know, was it necessary?
If I'm being really honest, was it necessary to make Miles Lewis,
take Miles Lewis Skelly?
Was it necessary to take Odegaard off?
But they were tactical decisions.
So I get that.
But the one up front, yeah, I think that was very, very strange.
But we'll wait and see and see what happens tomorrow.
I wouldn't be surprised if Jokic goes one way and someone goes another.
There you go.
They did mention in the rumours that there'll be a big shock exit this winter.
I don't think that's actually happened yet.
So maybe it is, Victor.
But would it be sad for you if you did see him go?
Because, listen, I know this is a fangame about the game,
but we have to talk about why is he not playing?
Is Havertz just a favourite?
Or is it looking like he is wanting to go because he wants, what, more minutes?
Listen, I think at the end of the day,
you have to look at it today.
Havertz has done some stuff right in the last five minutes
where he holds the ball up, he wins a foul.
Jokic is not quite as good as that.
So I get it today why he wants to play Havertz.
But on the one-on-one, I know he was offside.
He's got to finish that.
I'm a big Kai Havertz fan.
But even if you're offside, put it in the back of the net,
it might well be onside.
Who knows?
You have to go and check it.
I wasn't convinced he was going through.
If Jokic is going through, then I'd be more convinced.
At the end of the day.
But we were talking in the stands.
I'll tell you one player who went through today and would have scored,
Mourinho.
He would take that chance.
By the way, outstanding when he came on today.
Won his first straight away.
He came on and really was fantastic.
And Bruno.
Bruno came on and done very, very well as well.
But listen, not good enough in certain areas.
But job done.
Listen, we came here last season.
I think we played probably a little bit better in the second half
than what we did in this game.
And we lost.
But I will say, I did think the first half,
I thought, oh no, it's back to where it was last season.
Walking football.
It was very, very possessive and very, very slow.
I do think we stepped it up second half and got the result.
And listen, it is all about getting the win.
Away from home, 1-0.
We'll take that.
You know what?
It's funny.
To swing that at the ref, I remember the first half.
The new rule is when there's a throw-in, they count five.
He didn't do the counting for the whole first half,
I swear, when they had the ball for throw-ins.
He wasn't counting.
Then as soon as we started doing throw-ins in the second half,
he's like, you've got five seconds.
I was thinking, where was that in the first half?
His officials were all like...
I honestly think we had two very, very good shouts for penalties.
The one on Havertz and the one on Bruno.
I know the one was outside.
But I don't know if you noticed that.
When it looked like it got the penalty, right?
I don't know why.
He looked there for about four ages.
What am I going to do?
Like, ow, no!
Someone in his ear went, yeah, he'll give it as a penalty.
It's a penalty.
And then, like, I don't know if you see him going, yeah, it's outside.
You know what I mean?
He got excited.
Yeah, he got excited not to give a penalty.
I can get out my little white line and put it here.
Like, you know what I mean?
What?
It was pathetic.
But at the end of the day, look, the most important thing is
you come away from home clean-shaven.
That is the good...
Listen, everybody was saying, like, Arsenal are going to be
without Saliba, it's going to be this, that.
Two games, two clean sheets.
One away from home.
I thought we defended very, very well today, London.
Gabriel, I thought, played well.
And listen, I'm going to say Raya, like, gives you so much confidence
as a goalkeeper as well, like, you know?
But I have to say, I didn't think it was a great performance today.
There was a bit worrying.
A lot of fans coming out going, oh, job done and everything like that.
Chelsea next week, do you think...
Got to play better.
Got to be a lot better.
Got to play a lot better, like, you know?
I think we've got to be really up for that game, a little bit shy.
It's at home though, isn't it?
Does that change because...
Yeah, of course it does.
Of course it does, you know what I mean?
Like, I honestly think in the first 10, 15, 20 minutes of that game
against Aston Villa today, we was on the front foot, you know?
So we are the away team and we're on the front foot.
Not them, like, you know what I mean?
But we'd get all the criticism because it weren't a great game and blah, blah, blah.
But we're on the front foot.
But we didn't do it quite enough in the second half like that.
Yeah, let's do it again.
Last, last question.
Last question.
Last one before we go.
Please get him mocked.
Esri Conso, he got to see...
Actually, I can't believe...
I'll be honest, we all said in the car,
I don't think he'll come and we won't see him today.
Come on.
They clapped him on, then they booed him when he got the ball.
I'll tell you what, you know what I mean?
They're funny, like, these Aston Villa fans, you know what I mean?
I thought he was getting quite a good reception,
clapping him and all that, and fair play to them.
And then he got the...
I would say...
I don't know, like...
Yeah, so, listen, it's their prerogative to do that.
Listen, I don't think he would have come on today.
You don't really want to change the back four.
You know, but I think...
I'm scared if I'm quite correct, it was Cramp that he went down with.
So, listen, I think he was neat and tidy when he came on.
I'm not allowed to say that word many often, neat and tidy,
but I'll say it today, he was neat and tidy.
