We have two additions to the 40-man roster two waiver claims that I'm sure absolutely nobody saw coming because they're not very well-known players
but these are guys who will probably fill some innings and fill some of bats for the Giants across the next few weeks because
The the roster is thin especially with arms
So this picture will absolutely fill some innings for the Giants at some point in the next three weeks
But they did add someone from the Brewers this came from Alex Pavovich the Giants claimed right-hander Joel
Connell off waivers from the Brewers
I'm probably pronouncing that wrong, but he was with the A's and Brewers this year
He's Rodriguez joins the long list of players on the 60-day
IL first of all the Giants have a ton of players on the 60-day IL and that's gonna make for some very interesting
DFA's releases in you know a few months in the winter because they're gonna have to get rid of some guys to make room back
On the 40-man for these guys on the 60-day IL so that'll be an interesting little wrinkle in this offseason before the lockout
But still that's for a different conversation. They add a right-hander Joel Connell
And this is a guy who does have big league experience
He's been around for actually quite a while at this point of his big league career
but this season not having the greatest year in the big leagues still one of his better years though a
484 er a in 35 and a third innings pitch striking out just five point six hitters per nine and walking
3.06 batters per night. The one thing he excels at is getting ground balls this year
It's at a 50% ground ball rate last year 48.5 years before that
57 52 percent pretty much every season of his career outside of the kovat shortened to 2020 year with the Reds
He's been a very good ground ball pitcher and we know the San Francisco Giants love their arms
That can keep the ball on the ground now. Does that mean that canals gonna be here for a long time? Absolutely not
I'm sure he's just gonna be here to like I said fill some innings for the bullpen
Maybe you know some openings over the next few weeks and that's it
But still it's nice to see a guy who can get the ball on the ground and maybe avoid some of those blow-up innings
We've seen from Giants pitchers this year
The best season of canals career was probably 2022 when he threw 58 innings at a 636 era with 0.3 wins of a replacement
but it does seem like this season is probably gonna end up being the best year of his career with a 4era and the
35 innings up to this point now, that's not it. The the Giants also made an addition yesterday
Afternoon from their Red Sox this came from Tommy Castle on Twitter in filter Brett Harris
Who's recently DFA to buy the Boston Red Sox was claimed off waivers by the San Francisco Giants
And if that name sounds familiar to any of you he was on the A's two years ago
His first big league hit was actually a home run 450 feet to left field at the Oakland Coliseum
Which is obviously no longer in use by the Oakland Athletics
But a guy who's familiar with the Bay Area a little bit and just hasn't necessarily found his footing in the big leagues
But he does have some decent run in MLB last year was his best showing in Major League Baseball when he slashed 274
349
342 good for a 91 WRC plus and 0.3 wins above replacement. He was actually pretty good last year
I think we take those numbers at this point of the season when you're looking for guys to just fill out bats in the infield
I think he's probably better than Shea Whitcomb
No offense to him get a nice home run early on but just hasn't done much since so I would be expecting to see
Harris at some point over the next few weeks just as I mentioned to fill some innings in the infield to play some defense and
Just to get some warm bodies in triple-a because the Giants have had to call up
So many guys over the last few weeks and they just simply don't have a lot of guys in
Sacramento right now to play so it's a lot of the same guys playing every single day and you don't necessarily need that in triple-a
so just getting some guys claimed off waivers to fill some
Roles in triple-a and that's what a lot of these moves are going to be through the remainder of the season
Now that is gonna do it for all of the news or I should say the additions recently from the San Francisco Giants again
These are all moves that are just simply, you know
to fill roles in triple-a to maybe have some warm bodies at the big leagues and just fill innings because the Giants have
All of a sudden hit by the injury bug on the mound and just haven't had a ton of guys
Who can fill those innings in in recent weeks, so that's why Joel Connell is here
That's why Brett Harris here to fill innings in the infield after those injuries and I'm sure we will see these guys in the big
Leagues at some point over the next three weeks before the end of the 2026 campaign now really quickly
I did want to preview the series against the New York Mets
These are kind of a battle of the mediocre this season
The Giants are well below mediocre, but the Mets were a team that had real real playoff aspirations
They had World Series aspirations after the offseason and they had and they have been well below average
They had a really really rough first few months of the season
They've actually been around 500 for the last month or two
I believe so they've been a lot better as of late but still a very underwhelming season for the New York fan base
Who was expecting a potential World Series title with Lindor Juan Soto the newly acquired Boba Shett, you know
Trading for Freddy Peralta and that just quite simply did not happen. But this weekend tonight we have
Tugboat Wilkinson on the mound. He's coming off of a really good start last week
So hopefully can continue that against a guy who could legitimately win the rookie of the year in Nolan McLean
He's been very very good in his debut season Saturday
We have Anthony Molina who was also pretty good against the Braves a few days ago
Against Zach Thorin a fun lefty for the Mets and then on Sunday a serious finale
It'll most likely be Logan Webb who I don't know if the Giants are gonna shut him down soon
But it is something that I think they do need to consider because he just simply hasn't been himself of late
This is probably going to be the worst season of his career up to this point unless he goes on a crazy run over the
Next three weeks, which just doesn't make a lot of sense
He's one of the biggest pieces for the Giants next season considering their rotation is extremely thin heading into 2027
So you need a good Logan Webb next season if you're trying to contend
Whatsoever and shutting him down some point over these next few weeks does make a lot of sense for Buster Posey
Tony Vitello and the San Francisco Giants organization because again
They really need him to be good Logan Webb next season and be back to that
You know top five to top seven Cy Young caliber pitcher
They've gotten over the last few seasons that is gonna do it for today's video really quickly tonight
Just a minor league update Jackson Flora making his professional debut with the organization for the San Jose Giants in low way
Against the Fresno Grizzlies
They're gonna probably go two to three innings with him
If that just to get him on a mound and get him ready for the single a California League playoffs
Eric Nock stream was also added to the San Jose Giants
Roster he was their sixth round pick and was labeled as one of the better money-saving arms in the draft
So really excited to see him on a mound at some point over the next few days as well
Exciting to see some pitchers in the organization with some upside finally because it's been quite a while since we have seen that
That's gonna do it for today's video
If you enjoyed leave a comment your thoughts on these additions Joel Connell Brett Harris, not earth-shaking moves
But ones that'll fill some roles for the organization over the next few weeks
