Changan Deepal S05 Infotainment Review: One Screen Controls EVERYTHING!
40 Video Views·Sep 4, 2026
So the car that you see behind me is the new Chengden D-PAL S05.
It's a sort of high-end EV, new from China, of course.
It's sort of upper-middle segment. It's about 268 horsepower.
Prices, we're talking about, you know, £35,000 to £40,000.
This one is about £38,000.
Now, it's one of those cars where a lot of the features are actually in the screen.
It's got a massive screen inside.
In fact, it's just got the one massive screen inside.
And pretty much everything is done through that screen.
So whilst I am going to be doing a full review on the car as well,
what I thought I'd do is take a deeper dive into what is in that screen
and how does that all work.
So in this video, this is, if you like,
an extended road test of the infotainment system in the car.
Let's go check it out.
All right, let's get in.
Try not to make it too messy since it is now raining.
Now, here we are.
And you saw that. Look, phone contacts synced.
So it's already working away at whatever it is that it does.
So as you can see, there are no...
Now, we do have... I don't know if you can make it out.
It's kind of hard to see it, particularly in the daytime,
but there is a heads-up display.
It's quite a large heads-up display.
And you can adjust it up and down.
It operates from here.
So that's the only thing you get.
You get speed and you get a few things there and stuff.
But other than that, there's no other screen in here.
That's a camera, I'm guessing.
And that camera is looking at me, probably.
That's a driver monitoring camera.
And there's buttons here, buttons here.
There's buttons here, but nothing for the mirrors.
That's it.
Nothing else.
Nothing else anywhere.
That's a charging pad.
Everything is in the screen.
So this is one of those, and it doesn't have...
As far as I can tell, it doesn't actually have a glove box.
There doesn't appear to be an opening at all.
Because sometimes what happens is that I thought there was no glove box
until there was an opening in there.
But I don't think there is a glove box.
But anyway, so everything is on the screen.
And if you noticed, I don't know,
you would have seen it on that camera, actually, on the GoPro.
That as I walked up to the car and as I got in,
the moment that I got in,
you may have noticed that this screen actually turned,
angled a little bit towards the drivers.
So there's a whole bunch of things up here.
So you got your...
Oh, by the way, you saw that move.
That's because I can do that.
And this car is the same colour.
It's got the same number plate, actually.
Not sure how that works.
But it's got the same colour as the car that we're in.
But you can actually change that as well.
Metallic paint, matte paint.
Oh, there's the slightest bit of difference.
And then you could change the colour.
Although, let's try and get it back to what it was,
which I think is that one.
What was it, that one?
I think it's that one.
So you can actually do that.
I don't know why you want to do that, but you can do it.
What was that? Recommendations.
Ah, okay.
So then you can just select...
Is that the colour?
That's actually the colour.
So there you go.
Or you can have it black, pearl white.
That's pearl white, I think.
Or that's grey, silver.
There you go.
Okay.
Anyway, let's go back to that screen.
So up here, you've got your outside temperature and your time.
This is your privacy mode.
Connected mode.
So presumably, for press information,
switching to privacy mode, all the data legally required function
will be prevented from uploading.
So this is that thing where, you know, you could actually disconnect it.
So all those concerns about your data and your information
being uploaded somewhere and people getting access to it.
You could actually...
This car is quite good in that it gives you that ability to go,
I want privacy mode, and then that's it.
That one, microphone unused.
Interesting.
Camera unused, GPS unused.
Now this thing here, driving recorder, loop record, view driving record.
So this is interesting.
So this is actually recording all the time, externally.
So all the cameras are in the car that will give you the 360 as well.
It's actually recording all the time.
Do not open the left door.
Why? What's happening there?
I don't see anything there.
Strange.
Anyway, that's a sensor glitch.
So it's recording you.
See, it's giving you the timings.
So if I press that, and there you go.
See, it shows the recording of where we are.
That's a photo.
Actually, that's because we're parked.
That's why it looks like a photo.
How do I go back?
Here you go.
There's a button there.
And what you have here is the emergency video.
And so if you decelerate it suddenly, then it's recorded that.
So like, what happened at that moment when you decelerated?
And you can get a screenshot as well.
So presumably, if you're decelerating, that means if you decelerated suddenly,
then that means maybe you were involved in an incident or something.
So therefore, you get that.
And then there's the photos.
You can have the photos of it.
ADAS video as well.
Driver assist video features.
So this is what's happening here.
So basically, it's recording video all the time.
And so that's what that is.
Then you've got the Bluetooth, right?
And then you've got your network, the Wi-Fi network available.
What's that one?
That's logged in.
Then this is your battery power.
38% is the charge remaining on this car, which is giving me 113 miles.
And it gives me the journey information there.
Average consumption.
Watts per mile, I think.
That's kilowatt hour.
Distance driven, etc.
Give you the tire pressures here as well.
And the odometer reading.
Charge and display.
So that shows you that bit.
Charging schedule.
All of that sort of stuff here.
So we've gone through that.
And then this stuff is not clickable.
This is information.
So this is the sort of information that normally you would have on the screen in front of you.
Except that you've got it here.
So you can see that.
That's what that is.
So should we go through this?
Because we come back to this later.
But now that we're here, we might as well go through it.
So we've got drive.
What's in drive?
You've got your drive modes.
So you've got eco, comfort, sport, custom.
Custom, I guess, you can set how you want it.
But I don't know, like, what can you actually set?
Oh, here we go.
So you can set your custom here.
It's acceleration mode, fast.
Power steering road, normal.
Let's put that into sport.
Recuperation, customize.
It's 100%.
And then brake assist mode, comfort.
Comfortable braking response.
There's all these new cars I've been testing.
I've been seeing this new thing that a lot of them do.
Is where they have this kind of dampener effect.
So, you know, normally you hit the brakes and the front of the car pitches downwards.
And they've got this effect which actually basically pushes it back again.
So that you don't have that sense of the car suddenly braking.
So that's sport, comfort, eco.
Let's leave it in comfort.
Remember the drive mode?
Yeah, OK.
Comfort braking.
Yeah.
Hill descent control.
Stability control.
Auto hold.
Distraction reminder.
Fatigue reminder.
Distraction reminder is obviously the camera that's monitoring you.
Driver assist.
Intelligence cruise control.
Adaptive cruise control.
Adaptive cruise control is just the normal thing where it keeps the distance between cars.
Intelligent.
So does that tell you?
Intelligent is assist with speed control lane keeping.
So that's where you, you know, it will steer for you.
Now I have tried that on the motorway.
And what I will tell you is that it does work really well.
But it requires you to keep your hands on the steering wheel as most of these systems do.
But if now that your hand is on the steering wheel and you decide that you want to make
some adjustments, it doesn't like it.
The steering wheel gets really sticky and it kind of fights you from making any adjustments.
So I'm not a fan.
Intelligent speed assist.
Speed limit change.
Intelligent speed limit warning, etc, etc.
Lane departure assist.
So this is some of the ADAS features on here.
Warning method.
Sound vibration, etc.
Sensitivity.
Late, early.
It's on late.
So that's good.
Safety assist.
Emergency lane keep front collision warning.
Early, if you want that.
Door opening sound warning.
Oh, there's so many sounds in these cars.
You don't know what they actually mean.
But anyway.
Reversing lateral assist.
So that's like rear cross traffic alert, I guess.
Lane change assist.
Vehicle.
Have a look at that.
All the time this stuff over here is doing something.
Auto lock on exit.
So that's where as you get out, you just walk away.
It just locks itself.
Auto lock while driving, etc, etc.
Lights.
You can choose your ambient colors inside.
So this is the color here.
But that's not changing, though.
Actually, it's changing on here.
So I guess maybe once I actually choose it, then it will do that.
Brightness.
Oh, it actually has changed it, you see.
So that I've actually changed it to kind of what the color is in here, right?
Put it on there.
There you go.
It has changed it.
Red.
Pinkish.
Blue.
Let me put it back to kind of what we've got on this car.
That sort of color.
And then let's change it there as well.
Headlights.
Yeah, we have some.
Fog light.
Intelligent high beam.
Beam is automatically switched to dip beam when oncoming vehicle is detected.
Side lights.
Main lights.
Headlight mode.
Headlight level.
You can also do from here.
That's unusual, actually, because most modern cars don't give that.
They supposedly do it automatically.
Energy.
It goes back to that screen again.
WLTP.
World Light Vehicle Operating Conditions.
That's just showing you the estimated range according to that.
And battery health.
Oh, so this indicates signal.
This signal indicates battery health.
Representing the remaining life of the battery.
So there's a brand new battery.
So like, you know, over the years, I guess you will see that go down.
Interesting.
I haven't seen that before.
And that's actually a lot of people are like interested in how long does the battery last.
It's particularly when you're selling it used.
That would be quite an interesting thing to look at.
Dynamic sound.
You can choose the sound.
The sound is actually really good in this.
So you can have 3D sound.
You can have concert hall, live house, cinema, hi-fi original, and dynamic.
Dynamic I found to be the best in terms of bass.
And look at this.
I like this.
And actually it gives you.
I think I've turned the volume down.
But if I turn it up.
Oh, it's got radio on at the moment.
Because last time when I did that, the radio is on.
So I can't do anything about it.
Last time when I did that.
What it did is that it showed.
It gave me a demo sound of this.
You got volume controls here actually.
So this is for the passenger side.
I can control the volume with this here as well.
But this is I guess the passengers can hit that.
And they can do volume control from there as well.
And yeah.
It's a shame I can't do that.
Because that was quite good.
You got whole driver.
Customize.
So whole vehicle driver.
Customize.
You can do that.
You can also got the equalizer as well.
So you can actually manage.
There's so many ways to adjust the sound in this.
Which is quite good.
The display.
Actually, what else was there?
Yeah, that's just the navigation volume.
Vehicle prompt.
Vehicle prompt tone style.
Ethereal.
Mechanical.
So one of the things that this car does.
Is that when you walk away from it.
It locks.
And it makes a sound.
And the sound that it makes.
So you got greeting sound.
Departure sound.
But external speaker.
So star cruise.
So when you.
From the sound that people hear outside.
You get a sound at slow speed.
And the sound that you hear is star cruise.
So you can have boss guy, gentle.
I mean.
That's crazy.
You can choose that sound.
When the vehicle is traveling at low speeds.
The exterior speaker should sound and alert to pedestrians.
So that's what they will hear.
I like star cruise.
And then when you.
When I was.
As I was saying.
There's a wind.
And I put up a little.
Short reel as well on this.
Is that when you walk away from the car.
And it locks.
It makes a sound.
But you can change that.
You got three options.
You got cuckoo.
Actually I can turn that.
No because what it will do.
Actually if I do that.
No I can.
That's the trouble.
I can't turn.
Okay I've turned the radio off.
But if I do that.
Yeah.
I don't know if you heard that.
But that was the cuckoo sound.
So you get the frog sound.
Or you get the sort of.
You know like Microsoft.
Loading sort of sound.
USB upload.
So I'm guessing.
What's that?
No that's not what it was.
I was looking for.
That's a shortcut.
But USB upload.
Oh please insert USB drive.
So I guess you could maybe even.
Customize that.
If you wanted to.
Get rid of that.
So that's what that does.
So there you go.
And then let's go into display right.
So display this is.
Oh this is your heads up display here.
That's quite a lot of detail actually.
You've got like a full map there.
That's a substantial heads up display.
I haven't used the navigation system.
Of the car itself.
So I haven't seen that work.
Maybe I'll give that a try.
But that's interesting.
This is where it adjusts the height.
So you can move that.
Oh yeah actually moves.
Immediately responds.
Don't know if you can see it at all.
On this camera.
You could maybe just about make it out.
That's fine for me.
And adjust the brightness.
I will say that in the day.
When it's bright sunlight.
It's very hard to see that.
Display mode.
Minimalize.
So that you see it does that there.
So customize.
You know what you want on there.
So you can actually customize it as well.
God so much configuration available.
Snow.
Enhance the HUD display in snowy environment.
Interesting.
Then you've got your connections.
Phone etc.
New devices.
All the rest of it right.
Android Auto.
Apple CarPlay.
Network Bluetooth.
Voice control.
I haven't tried voice control too much in this.
You just say hi people.
Hi people.
I'm here.
Open driver's window.
Got it.
Close driver's window halfway.
Okay.
Close driver's window.
No problem.
So there you go.
There is voice control.
And it kind of works as well.
So that's what that does.
And you do that by saying that.
As you can see.
Voice activation zone.
Select which seat locations can do it.
They should all be able to do it.
And it should be able to detect where it's from.
Continuous conversation duration.
After activation you may continue speaking with the assistant for a set.
Oh okay.
So that's why she was still there.
So you can set it at 10 seconds, 20 seconds, 30 seconds.
So if you're feeling lonely.
You're driving along.
You sit down for 30 seconds and start having a conversation with the onboard AI I guess.
Voice commands.
See frequently used voice commands.
Navigate home.
Go to work.
Show me current location.
Wow.
Interesting.
And the tone.
You can have a female voice.
You can have a male voice as well.
Safety maintenance.
System.
So this is the system of the car.
It's like going into your computer and seeing the system settings.
That's basically what you get in there.
So we said that that.
We saw that that was the thing.
Volume levels.
That's your connectivity.
Now this is your seats.
So you get one on each side.
You get here and here as well.
And this one's actually already automated.
But return that.
So that gives you the whole thing.
And then that gives you.
Now that's gone too cold now.
There you go.
So there's heated and cool seats.
And heated steering wheel as well.
I say ventilated, cooled.
You know what I mean.
So that's what that does.
And you got AC control.
That's your climate control.
So you got individual temperature settings.
What's that?
Front windshield heating function enabled.
Okay.
You should just do that automatically.
That's your direction settings.
Automatic defog.
Yeah, the automatic defog.
Earlier I felt it wasn't working that well.
But maybe it was off.
I don't know.
Unlock automatic ventilation.
Automatic ventilation upon remote unlocking.
Interesting.
Lowering windows for ventilation upon unlocking the car.
But it doesn't do that.
That's disabled.
But it can do that.
Interesting.
Maybe in a hot country you might want to do that.
Fan speed.
Maximum recirculation or air from outside, etc, etc.
That's what that all does.
That's your demisting for the front one or the rear one.
That must be the rear one.
That must be the front one.
It's the front one.
I can hear the fans go off.
Okay.
So that's all of that.
So down here you got these three things as well.
That's vehicle.
So that's what we've been playing with.
And of course here you got your disinformation.
Which we covered earlier.
But that also gives you tire pressure and stuff.
Let's go back into that.
Search.
That's for navigation.
There you go.
Big, big old keyboard there.
Let's go back into that.
And then there.
And you got your radio.
And what else you got?
You got the phone.
And you can edit that.
So you can probably configure that how you want as well.
Over here you've got your apps.
Before we go into apps, let's just do that one.
That's also the home screen.
That's the car screen.
Okay.
So that's basically, that's your home setting.
And this is sort of settings of the vehicle.
And then this here is apps.
Music.
Do not open the right door.
Okay.
Because there was a guy there.
So you got it right that time.
Music.
Bluetooth phone.
Driving recorder.
So that goes back to that thing that we had earlier.
Where it was recording everything.
Then you got your 360 degree camera.
With the camera, I want to show you this as well.
That you can do that.
Now, how would you remember all of these things?
You know, when you're driving along and you want to use the camera.
But it does do that.
Now, why hasn't it got a shortcut on the home screen to the camera?
I don't know.
Because that would be quite handy.
Because I thought that's what that was.
That's when I first pressed it.
And ended up with a bunch of recordings going, eh?
But that's what I wanted.
I wanted a button here.
Maybe there is a way to configure it.
I wouldn't be surprised.
I haven't found a way yet.
But you have to go into there.
Then you have to go into there.
And that's when you get that.
When you get that.
Obviously, when you hit reverse, it also does that as well.
And then you can do that.
Or you can choose which side you want to see.
You know?
You can see the car drive off there.
Rear.
And like that.
Like that.
Look at that.
So these are the things that you can do.
And you can also change the views as well.
So there's lots of stuff that you can do here.
That's quite extraordinary.
Whether you remember that you can do all that.
I don't know.
But you can.
Scene.
So this is probably.
Yeah.
The wallpaper.
Rest mode.
Serene dream.
30 minutes.
Create a comfortable space with one click.
And feel relaxed.
Activate to adjust the seats.
So you could probably like lower the seats.
Recline.
A pet.
Hello.
Do you wave or anything?
No.
It doesn't do that.
Camping.
Car wash.
When you're in the car wash.
It's getting washed now.
Because it's raining so much.
But anyway.
Hasn't rained for months.
And of course now that I have a car for review.
It's been chucking it down.
Okay.
Going back to that.
I just realized about this one.
The pet one.
This one kind of makes it rest.
Car wash.
Camping.
This one actually what you do.
Is you set the car up.
So this is to set the car up.
So that if you leave a pet in the car.
It's going to keep the correct temperature and everything for the pet.
Enable the mode to maintain a constant temperature environment in the car.
When you leave and lock the car.
So that's what that does.
So it creates a safe and comfortable.
Constant temperature for your pet.
Wow.
There you go.
So if you're a dog owner.
Then that's a useful thing to have.
Easter egg.
Play outside the car.
Play in the car.
Play in the car please.
Because otherwise people will be like.
What are you doing?
Fresh and lively.
Activate.
Oh it's a countdown.
Okay.
Hang on.
I'm getting too impatient here.
Come on.
Okay.
That's not good.
What the heck?
Why did it open the windows to do that?
Wowzers.
Okay.
Quick.
And um.
Hey depot.
Right here.
Close both windows.
No problem.
Close passenger window.
Okay.
Look it's all wet inside now.
Look what you've done.
What was that one then?
Fresh and lovely.
Activate.
Now I've got to wait 15 seconds for that to happen now.
Come on.
What else has opened?
Oh the back windows have also opened.
Wow.
Why did it do that?
Five seconds.
Three.
Two.
Oh and here we go again.
Why is it opening the windows?
The window has been opened.
Okay.
All right.
So it does.
You can have dancing and stuff.
I don't know.
External speakers or.
What is this?
Recording?
No.
Don't record.
Yield to pedestrians.
Please go first.
Wow.
I mean how would you find this when you're driving along and you stop at the zebra crossing?
But you can actually do that.
Okay.
Call me when you need me.
Keep your eyes on the road and drive safely.
I'm here.
That's weird man.
I wonder if that.
I'm tempted to.
It's raining.
I'm tempted to get out and see if when you do that.
But how do you even go there?
Now that wasn't even it.
Where was I?
Oh easter egg.
External speaker.
Yield to pedestrian.
Yeah.
So you can't hear.
I can just about make out as the external speaker of the car is saying please go first.
Oh my god.
Oh wow.
I want to try this now.
Just pull up somewhere.
Hello there.
What?
Oh.
I don't know.
It's saying something.
I just noticed some easter eggs here as well.
Talking of easter eggs.
There's a motif there.
Just there.
Buildings or something.
Right.
Okay.
So that is.
So that's what that was.
File management.
So it's recorded files.
USB.
You can download them and stuff.
User manual.
A full user manual in there.
Which you know.
If you want to sit in your car and read a user manual.
Get a life.
Surely you shouldn't need to.
Game center.
Actually maybe when you're charging it.
You probably end up you reading the user manual.
And you have space cruiser.
Look at that.
Start game.
Space cruiser.
Start game.
How do I do it?
Oh wow.
Bang.
Look at that.
So there you go.
So you got games in the car.
So you can play games.
Minesweeper.
Piano.
Go bang.
Tetris.
Tetris?
Oh wow.
Anyway.
So you got games in the car.
Android Auto.
Apple CarPlay.
Navigation.
We done.
What is that?
Tencent Way.
What is Tencent Way?
I have no idea what that is.
It's showing me some music.
Apple Vision Pro.
BBC World Service.
It's a website.
So is it a browser?
Also maybe this is a browser.
Also it's a web browser.
Is it a web browser?
It's a kind of web browser.
But it's not like.
Maybe you can.
I was thinking that maybe you can.
How then can you go.
And find.
Let's try.
Nope.
Doesn't want to do that.
So anyway.
So it's limited to what you have here.
I guess.
If there's another way of doing this.
Anybody knows that.
Then please let me know.
News.
Tools.
Broadcast yourself.
VidHub.
What is VidHub?
And should I be on it?
YouTube.
VidHub is YouTube.
Okay.
It takes its time.
Is it going through my phone?
It must be going through my phone.
I'm guessing.
Let's see if that works.
Yay.
Look at that.
So why didn't it play it then?
Oh okay.
Here we go.
Works.
There you go.
So these are things that basically.
You know when you're sitting there.
Charging in Spotify as well.
And then radio as well.
So when you're charging and stuff.
You can do that.
Check out Brown Car Guys latest novel.
Silent Ruin.
Action.
Adventure.
Spies.
Betrayal.
Romance.
Plus of course cool cars and car chases.
It's got the lot.
And don't forget.
How to be an automotive content creator.
The Ulez Files.
And Quantum Races.
All Brown Car Guys books are available on Amazon.
And Kindle Unlimited.
That's interesting.
I don't know if you noticed that.
If I lift my butt off the seat.
I think.
Yeah.
And it goes back.
If I put my butt on the seat.
It knows there's a driver in the seat.
And it turns towards the driver.
Interesting.
This is the radio.
I just want to show you this.
Because I have not had success with the radio.
What did I do there?
Well I mean I can go through there.
Or I can go through here.
And you get the radio.
The volumes come on.
But what I haven't been able to do.
Is you can't.
Okay.
You can't search from here.
Understandable.
Searching for station.
No.
Understandable.
But DAB right.
You expect to be able to search.
It has not worked.
Every time I've tried that has not worked.
You got your scanning for stations.
So like I can't find.
And the list.
It doesn't give you the list.
Scanning for stations.
So unless I needed to like.
Give it 20 minutes or something.
To scan for stations or something.
I don't know.
But other than that.
I've not been able to do that.
And I've had to use normal FM radio.
Okay.
So that's it.
And there's a speed.
And stuff like that.
I mean you know.
Actually the normal car stuff.
That you normally get.
I mean you got speed.
And that's it.
You don't really have.
Everything else you have.
I think that's it.
I think we've covered everything.
That I can.
Oh you can also do this.
By the way.
So there's your shortcuts.
And even in the shortcut.
You don't get the camera.
Do you get the camera?
You got rest mode.
What's a rest mode?
Rest mode is that.
Okay.
So.
Let's go back to that.
3D.
Oh it's a workspace.
Headlights.
Dip beam.
Control.
Volume control.
Driving position.
One of the things I like about this.
Actually.
I'll come back to that in a minute.
Close the sunshade.
So there is a panoramic roof.
And that's how you close the sunshade.
I don't want to do that.
Because my camera is there.
Open the tail.
Stay hang on.
I didn't tell you to go away.
And the fatigue reminder.
HD.
Heads up display adjustment.
Wireless charging.
All the rest of it.
What was I going to show you?
I was going to show you one more thing.
Which I quite like.
Good and bad.
Every time I adjust the seat.
And if it's in park mode.
Then it will say.
Do you want to save that?
And then you can save it.
And you can have a rest position as well.
And stuff like that.
One thing I didn't like.
Is that if you saw another short reel.
That I put up.
A couple.
And it's done it a couple of times now.
Where I've got in the car.
Closed the door.
And the seat has just kept moving forward.
And it's literally squashed me against there.
And that was very uncomfortable.
But yeah.
So that's what that does.
Right.
Does it do anything from here?
Here?
Well we did have a shortcut from here.
But not anymore.
And then that's it.
Right.
And you.
Oh you can do that as well.
So you can.
You can get rid of those if you want.
But let's keep them there.
So there you go.
There is.
I mean it's taken a while.
And you can see why.
I don't want to include this in the full review.
Because it'd be more than half the review.
If not the whole review.
But if you're really interested.
In the Changgan D-PAL 05 infotainment system.
Which is.
There's quite a lot to it.
