The man accused of killing a mother and daughter while drunk driving in the wrong lanes of I-270
is reportedly in the U.S. illegally. Fox 5's Sina Gebra Ab is in Rockville with the new details.
Well 32-year-old Jose Caballero Nolasco has been living in Germantown but he's originally
from El Salvador. In court this week his attorney said he's been living in the U.S. for 10 years,
a clean record. According to Fox News though he told police that he's a U.S. citizen
but he's actually in the country illegally. They said federal sources confirmed this
and that ICE has requested you to detain him from the Montgomery County Detention Center
where he's currently being held without bond. According to police he was driving northbound
in the southbound lanes of 270 last Saturday when he hit another car head-on near Democracy Boulevard
killing 46-year-old Musama Shamima Begum and her 23-year-old daughter Ariba Jahin. Now the
and their eight-year-old daughter were also in the car. They survived but the eight-year-old
was seriously hurt. Officers said that Caballero Nolasco was also hurt and that he smelled of
alcohol that his eyes were bloodshot and that he was slurring his words. I did speak to his
attorney today she wouldn't address his immigration status but she did say that they're waiting to see
whether a grand jury indicts him on more charges or whether the prosecutor potentially adds or
even upgrades his charges as well. As it stands now he's facing 23 years in prison
if convicted of all of his current charges. Back to you.
