An investigation now also underway after an M. T. A. Worker was struck and
killed by a train. It happened at the Yankee Stadium stop around 11 30 last
night. Fox five's Antoine Lewis just got an update from the Transit Workers
Union joins us live from their office in Brooklyn Heights. Antoine Steve.
Good evening. This just appears to be a very terrible accident. We're also
learning more about that worker. She had been on the job 11 months. She was
also a mother with three small Children. This happened last night at
the 161st Street Yankee Stadium station in the Bronx. Now, transit
officials say that 41 year old Moet McCollum, a conductor flagger, was
setting out lights underground when she was hit by a southbound D train just
after 11 30. Authorities say she was taken to Lincoln Hospital, where she
was later pronounced her union. The T. W. U. Local 100 says the job that she
was doing at the time of this accident was to alert incoming trains of the
presence of work that's being done.
So in the title of conducted, there was a conductor flagging, which is
construction flagging. So what they do is they go out and they flag, which is
right away safety, where they put out lights, where they put out caution
signals so that they know that there's a work group ahead.
Now, the victim also had a twin sister who has been an M. M. T. A. Employee
for 11 years. We understand the NTSB, the M. T. A. And the T. W. U. S. Safety
Board are all jointly investigating this case. But Steve was all very
preliminary, so they didn't have a lot of details, but certainly they were
devastated from the news conference that happened here earlier today. Back
inside to you. Understandably so. All right. We appreciate it. Thanks,
Antoine.
