Video Summary
AI GeneratedAyelet introduces traditional Jewish blessings used to thank God for food and drinks. While not directly from the Bible, these traditions are commonly practiced during daily meals, Shabbat, and festive family gatherings. The lesson focuses on the Hebrew pronunciation, transliteration, and meaning of specific blessings for different types of sustenance.
Shalom, this is Ayelet and today we will learn some traditional Jewish blessings for food
and drinks.
Keep in mind that this is only a tradition and even though this is not taken straight
out of the Bible, it is still nice to acknowledge and thank God for all the food and drinks
that He created and provided for us.
These blessings can be used at any meal, but especially during the Shabbat meal on Friday
night or at any other festive meals when the family gathers around the table.
We will start by saying the top section before any one of the lines below.
We will then add this line for wine or juice made from grapes, this line for bread, this
line for any other food that grew directly from the ground or when there is no bread
on the table, and this line for water or any other food or drinks.
Hebrew is read from right to left and as you can see, each word is transliterated so you
can learn how to say it and translate it so you can understand what it means within the
context.
I will go over each word very slowly, pronouncing each syllable.
Then I will repeat the complete word.
I will also recite each entire blessing in fluent Hebrew and provide the English translation
as well.
My cursor will follow the Hebrew letters, but I recommend that as we read, pay attention
to the transliteration and translation below each word so it will all make sense to you.
For more details on my transliteration method and to learn to read and pronounce any pointed
Hebrew text, watch the video on my Hebrew Pronunciation Chart.

Okay, so let's begin.
We will start each blessing by reciting this top section.
For the blessing for wine or grape juice, we will add this line.
So, all together, the blessing will say...
Amen.
For the blessing over the bread, we will add this line.
Blessed are you, Adonai, our God, King of the Universe, who brings forth bread from the earth.
For the blessing over foods that grew directly from the ground, we will add this line.
Blessed are you, Adonai, our God, King of the Universe, Creator of the fruit of the ground.
And for the blessing over water or any other foods or drinks, we will add this line.
Amen.
Blessed are you, Adonai, our God, King of the Universe, that everything comes into being by His Word.
