Hello friends, my name is Sachin Shukla and you are watching A2Z Practicals
So, friends, today's experiment—today I'm going to perform a functional group analysis.
In the 12th, your identification group, experiment number 18
Which I am going to identify different functional groups
How will you know in which compound there is an aldehyde, in which there is a carboxylic acid, and in which there is an amino group?
So how will you know these things?
So this is your Experiment Number 18, which is listed in the 12th Handbook.
And I'm going to explain it to you in a very simple way.
So, friends, let me tell you one more thing—I have another channel, The Chemistry Tadka.
Its link is in the community tab, and in the description, you can go and see.
These are very interesting and fascinating things.
That means it's an interesting experiment, not all of this.
It's a different kind of experiment, which you'll want, and you'll like it very much.
So if you want, you can go and see those things
So let me explain your 12th experiment to you.
And I will also write all the answers to you
So that you can write it very well in your handbook
So, friends, let me tell you that your first identification is the carboxylic acid group.
You are seeing that your carboxylic acid group looks like this
So how will we know that there is a carboxylic acid group in any substance?
So let me show you that
So, friends, your first test is the test for the carboxylic acid group.
So what you have to do is take the substance
So, friends, keep one thing in mind
If you have ever used a test tube, then reuse it.
So be sure to use a test tube holder with it
Because any substance can fall at any time
So this is given to you
You have to take a little salt from it.
And now what else do you have to add to it?
You have to add 10% sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO₃) to it.
So I have this NaHCO3 solution
Now what will I do? I'll add it to it.
So you have to keep watching the observation.
What substance should be soluble with Briggs effervescence of CO₂?
What is Briggs effervescence, see
Now as soon as I add it, if CO2 bubbles come in,
So, you're seeing CO2 bubbles in it.
Clear, so these CO2 bubbles indicate that CO2 is present in it.
Then your carboxylic acid group will be present.
Will be present in it
If these bubbles do not come in, then what will be your carboxylic acid group?
Will be absent, clear
So you've understood this, so such CO2 bubbles should appear in it.
And as soon as these CO2 bubbles emerge in the form of gas in the effervescence
So what will be your carboxylic acid group?
Will be present
So, friends, your second test is for phenolic.
It means you are given a sample and you have to test it.
Is there a phenolic group in it or not?
So if this phenolic group is present
Then you should get violet, green, and blue colors in it.
So let's see and tell you
I'm just telling you the result here.
The result means that I am showing you the present directly.
Because if you are present like this, then you will receive it like this
So what you have to do is take the test tube.
Again, whatever sample is given to you, you must take it in.
Now what's being said here is that you have to add a little water to it.
Add a little water to it.
Clear
After putting a little water
You have to add neutral FeCl₃ to it.
I have FeCl₃ present here
You will get it in the lab reagent
You have to add it in and see what changes we get
So as soon as you add it in, it
Its color turns green.
You will begin to see this light green
It is not completely green.
It starts to come in a little green.
It begins to come in green
I keep it for a while
But you see this green color
And it comes like this after dissolving
Here you will see green
So what will happen to your phenolic group here?
Present
The fourth test is the test for the ketone group.
So if any liquid is provided to you
Then whatever is provided
So if you want to test whether a ketone group is present or not
Then you should take a little liquid.
And again, the next step is to add a few drops of dilute NaOH.
So I've added a few drops of dilute NaOH here.
Clear
After adding a few drops
You have to add a few drops of sodium nitroprusside to it.
So I have the solid form of sodium nitroprusside.
You have to turn it into a liquid.
I'll put a little solid in it
And I will show you how this test comes about.
I have some particles of sodium nitroprusside.
See this
What do I do in this?
I add
Clear
You are seeing
The color should come
How should it come about?
Red blood
And you will begin to see the red blood color emerging here
Clear
So if this red blood color comes
What is the ketone group?
Present
Now you are seeing this entire thing
It turned red.
So if you get such results
So what will happen to your ketone group?
Present
Clear
So let's go
This is your ketone group.
Present
So friends
Next test
Test for amino group
Means if in your compound or sample
The amino group will be present.
So what will be the result?
This amino group is given to you
It is called substance.
What is it called?
Substance
You will be given just like this
Substance
What I added
That amino is present in it
So don't see that
You see
That you will be given such a substance
You must take the substance.
Place a test tube on it.
Clear
What to put in it
Concentrated acyl
Clear
You have to put concentrated acyl in it.
You must add the acyl group very carefully.
See, I have put
Concentrated acyl
Shake it well
Clear
And if you cool it in tap water
It will be better
I have cold water.
Means
Liquid
So what am I doing in it?
I'm taking it easy.
Clear
It will cool down very well after a while.
Now
Now what you have to do
Take another test tube
And you have to prepare a NaNa2 solution in it
How will you prepare a Na₂Na solution?
Maybe you'll get it made
Or you have to make it
You have to take a small amount of Na₂CO₃ solid.
Your NaNa2 solution is ready
I have put water in NaNa2.
Put water
This NaNa2 solution is yours
Freshly prepared
It is made quickly.
Now what you have to put
What to do with this NaNa2
In excess
Add this solution
That is your test tube number 1.
What do you have to do in it?
Add it
While shaking
Like this
Add a little
And shake a little
Add a little
Shake a little
Clear
Both are cold
So it is very good
Temperature does not increase
Add a little
Shake a little
Clear
Now your test tube number 1
What happened after being made here
Ready
I'll keep it here to cool down further
Now you have to take another test tube.
And what do you have to take in it?
Beta naphthol in NaOH
See this
I have this.
Beta naphthol in NaOH
It is already made.
You have to transfer it into another test tube.
Clear
Now what do you have to do
This cold solution
Test tube number 1
Clear
You have to put it in test tube number 2.
Means the aniline you took in it
This solution has to be put in it.
Not this in it
You have to put this in it
Remember
If you do not do this
Then your reading is incorrect.
Your test can be wrong
So what do you have to do in it?
You have to add
So you are seeing here
An orange-red dye is being produced here.
Clear
If it stays cold
It yields a very good result.
So you are seeing here
An orange-red dye is found here.
From which we know
What is the amino group present here?
If you get such a result
So what will be the amino group
Present
Clear
Now we will proceed to the final 7th test.
Test for alcoholic group
Won't know
What's in it?
So how can you find out
So you take this sample
And look at this
A test has been given.
That you have to take a very small piece of sodium
Extremely small
I have sodium.
And friends, you know
Sodium is extremely dangerous.
So I will take very small pieces
So I remove the sodium here
Careful
I have removed sodium here
I will cut it into very small pieces.
And whatever sample you are given
You can add it in there.
But you have to cut it into very small pieces.
So what you have to do now
Whatever sample is given to you
You have to add a small piece of sodium metal to it.
Let's see what it looks like
If after adding sodium metal
If you observe effervescence of H₂
And if you don't get it
So what will our group be?
Absent
Let's add it in.
So you are seeing
Bubbles have started forming in it.
Clear
Now from this bubble we know
That hydrogen gas is present in it
And you can see these bubbles clearly
Clear friends
What happened here?
Effervescence of H₂ gas
That's why
There is an alcoholic group present here.
The ROH group is present here.
So friends
You have seen all these identification tests.
How I have shown
The answer key is also beside me.
You can easily write the answer key.
Like when the carboxylic acid group is present
When the phenolic group is present
When will this group be present?
When will that group be present?
You can see all the answer keys here
So friends
Let me tell you one more thing
You can perform the practical very well by referring to this answer key.
You can write in your handbook
And you can also prepare very well
One more interesting fact
Let me tell you
That I have another channel
MSG Tadka
You will find its link in the community tab or in the description of this video.
Go and watch that video.
And there is an explosive experiment inside it.
