What happens when a disgraced college quarterback gets a second shot at football by becoming
someone who technically doesn't exist? Chad Powers season one turns Russ Holliday's comeback
attempt into a hilarious and surprisingly heartfelt journey about second chances,
friendship, and figuring out who you really want to be. Let's recap. Russ Holliday's very bad day.
Russ Holliday is once a star collegiate quarterback, racing toward a touchdown in the
championship game and seemingly on his way to glory. Then, in spectacularly disastrous fashion,
The opposing team grabs it and wins the championship. Russ doesn't exactly handle
the defeat gracefully. Distraught, he gets into an altercation with a fan on the sidelines,
accidentally tipping him over his son in a wheelchair who has cancer. The incident destroys
his reputation. Eight years later, Russ is living a freewheeling life but still desperately wants to
get back into athletics. Right when a desperate chance with the XFL finally comes knocking,
tragedy strikes again. The kid from that unfortunate night all those years ago passes
away. Unfortunately, Russ's name is basically Football Kryptonite, so he comes up with a
ridiculous solution. Become someone else. Using materials from his makeup artist father, Russ
disguises himself as Chad Powers and tries out for the football team at a small college in Georgia.
Naturally, this brilliant plan immediately needs a partner in crime. Enter Danny, the team's mascot,
who happens to play a catfish. Danny agrees to help Russ maintain the roost, and somehow it works.
Meet Chad Powers. Russ impresses the coaches during his tryout and briefly connects with Ricky,
an assistant coach, and the daughter of head coach Jake Hudson. Russ even works out a bizarre
backstory and voice for Chad. There is, however, one tiny problem. He isn't actually enrolled at
the college. After being offered a spot, Russ admits the truth. Coach Hudson tells him to
so Russ does what any completely legitimate college athlete would do. He gets a fake ID.
With Danny's help, Russ officially begins his new life as Chad Powers. But there's another
obstacle waiting for him on the team. Chad is competing with Jerry, an earnest and friendly
player, for the starting quarterback position. Coach Hudson tells Chad to demonstrate leadership
and invites him to a team barbecue at his house. Things quickly get messy when the barbecue turns
into a pool party and water balloon fight, creating plenty of opportunities for Chad's
to fall apart. Somehow, he survives the chaos and wins hearts at the same time. Meanwhile,
Ricky struggles with being seen primarily as the coach's daughter after her career running
track ended. She is constantly belittled by Coach Dobbs, the quarterback coach.
And then comes the bad news. Hudson chooses Jerry as the starter. Chad Powers is going to have to
wait. When Russ calls his father feeling low, his dad tells him in no uncertain terms that while
there's love, forgiveness has run out. The catfish get their quarterback. The first game of the
Unfortunately, Jerry struggles badly. The catfish are playing terribly, and Ricky comes up with an
idea that could turn things around. Replace Jerry with Chad. The other coaches aren't interested.
Ricky is dismissed by her own father and told to get off the field. Tricia, the chair of the
Booster Trust, tells them to win at any cost. She is trying to prove herself as an ambitious
woman in sports, despite constantly being reminded that she doesn't belong there. Danny, however,
apparently believes in a more hands-on coaching philosophy. While playing the catfish mascot,
he purposefully trips Jerry, knocking him out of the game with an injury. With no other choice,
Coach Hudson puts Chad in. And Chad delivers. He scores his first touchdown for the catfish.
Then, on the final play, Chad ignores the coach's strategy and goes with Ricky's play instead.
It works. The catfish win. But while everyone else celebrates, Chad goes looking for Ricky.
The two share a quiet moment. And suddenly, the ridiculous fake quarterback scheme starts feeling
like something much more meaningful. A very close call. The catfish travel to Knoxville
the night before a game. And Russ has a very make-or-break problem. He needs glue for his
disguise. And he needs it before the 11 p.m. curfew. Naturally, Russ and Danny decide that
stealing a cheerleader's car is the most sensible solution. Their glue hunt goes spectacularly
sideways. They dupe a football fan at a Halloween mart and run for their lives, only to discover
that the bag containing all their supplies has been stolen. Russ cuts his hand on glass, and
Danny tracks their missing gear to a far-off house. He then freaks out at the sight of a gun in the
glove compartment. As Russ decides to use it to scare the thieves, they find Chad's discarded
disguise scattered on the ground and in the bin. In the commotion, the gun goes off, and Russ's
wound gets deeper. They end up at the hospital, where he and Danny get into a fight. Russ says
Danny's life has no meaning without Chad, and that he is obsessed with Russ. Danny reminds him how
everyone pities Russ and storms off, leaving him to fend for himself. Russ then steals medical
adhesive from the hospital and races back to the hotel to repair his disguise. Another snag hits
him there. Ricky recognizes him as Russ Holliday. Instead of calling attention to him, she talks to
him with kindness. Russ tells her she needs to reconcile with her father. Meanwhile, Danny covers
for Russ during the curfew check. The two friends eventually reconcile and work together to put Chad
powers back together. After the game the next day, Ricky searches for Russ on her phone and discovers
that he has been out of the public eye. College game day time. The undefeated Catfish are now 5
and 0, which means the spotlight gets a lot brighter. College game day arrives in South
Georgia to cover the team, forcing Chad to endure an awkward interview while continuing
to maintain his fake identity. The pressure of living two lives starts getting to Russ.
Frustrated and exhausted, he heads to a bar where he hooks up with a woman who approaches him.
She gives him a surprisingly simple piece of advice. Everybody deserves to be happy.
Those words stick with Russ. Instead of abandoning Chad powers, he begins leaning even further into
the persona. The next day, he tells Danny he might let Russ go forever and keep Chad's face
permanently. He then heads to Coach Hudson's lake house for another interview, and then he
discovers the woman from the bar was Wendy, Coach Hudson's estranged wife. Oops. Things go horribly
wrong. The interview quickly turns into an emotional firestorm. Wendy expresses her frustration with
Hudson's complete devotion to football and his lack of attention to their marriage. The tension
between them erupts into a fight, bringing the interview to an abrupt end. Then Wendy drops the
nuclear bomb. She admits that she had an affair with Russ Holiday the night before in his Cybertruck.
Hudson is stunned. And then, because this day apparently hasn't suffered enough, he begins
having a heart attack. Chad realizes that Coach Hudson needs to get to the hospital immediately,
so he drives him there in his Cybertruck. The pieces click into place as soon as Ricky sees
the vehicle. Chad powers is Russ Holiday. He concocts a story about the car belonging to Danny,
but Ricky isn't buying his explanations anymore. She asks him to leave as soon as they reach the
hospital. Russ is clearly spiraling. The truth hits hard. At practice, Ricky removes Chad's
armband, revealing the tattoo on his arm that Russ is known to have. There is no more hiding.
Chad leaves practice abruptly and tells Danny that he's been caught and is leaving the team,
but Danny refuses to let him give up. He convinces Russ to drive to Atlanta,
where Russ's father is working on a movie. His father is impressed by the enormous effort Russ
has put into pulling off the disguise and encourages him to show up for the game against
top-ranked Georgia. For perhaps the first time, Russ gets something he desperately needs. Someone
who has seen the real him, through all the ups and downs, and is once again willing to believe in him.
Elsewhere, Ricky visits her father as he recovers. Hudson remains excited about the team's chances
of winning the national championship because of Chad. One last shot. Russ puts the Chad Powers
disguise back on, with his father's help this time. He returns to the game and tries to talk
to Ricky. She isn't ready to forgive him and threatens to expose Chad unless he quits the team,
but Russ calls her bluff. If Ricky reveals that Chad is actually Russ Holliday, he argues,
it could ruin her father's career. So Chad stays. He walks onto the field for the game against
top-ranked Georgia. The team is thrilled to see him. Well, almost everyone. Jerry is furious,
while Hudson watches from his hospital bed, delighted to see Chad back where he belongs,
with Trisha keeping him company. And with the Catfish facing one of the biggest challenges
of their season, Russ Holliday has finally reached the point where he can no longer simply
run away from his past. He can either keep hiding behind Chad Powers, or prove that the person
underneath the ridiculous disguise deserves a second chance. If you enjoyed this recap,
