Alexandra transforms a bland, \"cookie-cutter\" condo bedroom into a whimsical, vintage-inspired sanctuary for her client, Sydney. By blending a \"chic grandma on a farm\" aesthetic with strategic storage and bold decor, the designer converts a sterile white space into a cozy, textured retreat that maximizes functionality without sacrificing personality.
This video is sponsored by Desenio. Hey guys, welcome back to my channel. I'm Alexandra and
I'm really, really excited for today's makeover. We're making over a tiny cookie cutter condo
bedroom. Are you guys ready? Let's get started. Okay, first things first, let's hop on a call
with Sydney who's our makeover recipient this week and get to know her and her bedroom.
So nice to meet you. I'm so excited about your bedroom makeover.
Me too. Very excited. I would love to just get right into it. Talk me through
what's working in your bedroom right now. What's not functioning for you. Tell me all about it.
What's not working is it is very boring. I pretty much moved in to this condo about two years ago
and just put all my furniture in from my previous place. I don't feel like I have anything to look
at when I walk in my room right now. It's just a white bed with boring side table and I would just
love to have like more visual interest and there's a lot of opportunity in there and I just have done
the rest of my apartment and just completely forgotten about my bedroom. Yeah, that makes
sense. Walk me through storage. What do you need in terms of storage? What do you already have?
So the bed I have now has a few drawers under it. Actually two of them broke and I've had to throw
them out. So we're working with two drawers but I keep a lot of extra sheets and like miscellaneous
items under there but I could really use some sort of other storage solution. In terms of lighting in
your space do you have enough light? There's an overhead light that people always are like oh
that's so nice and I hate it. So I've definitely been thinking about replacing that for a long time.
Okay and what about side table lighting? Like do you read in your bedroom? Do you need like soft
mood lighting? Yeah, I definitely like some sort of light on a side table. I always ask our makeover
recipients how they would describe their style. It's sort of a mix of cottagey, vintagey. It just
whimsical would be the best word I think. Amazing. I really like color and texture and I was always
gonna do like wallpaper behind my bed but I just could never pick one or anything. Okay, really
excited to take this on. Yay. Okay, I will meet you on reveal day but yeah. Perfect. See you then.
Okay, awesome. Thank you. Sydney's bedroom is giving cold cookie cutter condo vibes but her
inspo is actually the complete opposite of that. It's filled with warmth. It's filled with pattern
play. It's filled with lots of like neutral soft colors. It's giving like a chic grandma who lives
on a farm maybe like goes out to pick daisies in a field. It's filled with so much pattern play,
statement headboards, warm kind of muted colors. I am truly obsessed with this inspo.
Here's what I'm thinking. Sydney's main concern in this bedroom is storage and I need to get really
smart with the storage I bring in here and also at the same time be realistic about how much
furniture can actually fit into this bedroom because it is so small. I'm thinking under bed
storage. I'm going to give her two nightstands that are on casters so she can actually move
those out of the way and open the storage under the bed. If I can, I want to bring in a storage
bench to put at the end of the bed. Something that she can put like blankets, linens, and pillows in
and I also want to put up a couple of floating shelves as well. I want the headboard and the
wall behind the headboard to be a statement. I want to wallpaper that back wall with some cute
little floraled wallpaper. I want to get a custom headboard made something that's like big, that's
pink, just like really beautiful and I want to paint out the walls in a soft kind of pale blue.
A huge part of this makeover is just bringing charm into this condo bedroom. I really want to
wallpaper headboard wall have its moment so on the other side on the other wall I want to bring
in lots of charm and pattern and color with these beautiful art pieces from Desenio. I have used
Desenio in countless makeovers. We are working with so many different styles and I always know
I can find exactly the art I'm looking for for just about any style on Desenio. Desenio offers
trendy high quality and affordable prints and frames and updates its collection very regularly.
Desenio has its own in-house design team in Stockholm, Sweden that creates unique and
trending designs that you can only find exclusively with them. They also ship to
countries worldwide including to the U.S. within two to four business days. I also love that
Desenio is a one-stop shop so when I'm picking my prints I'm also picking the frames that they're
going to go into and I'm so excited that they now have these beautiful colored frames and I feel
like these are so perfect for Sydney's bedroom makeover. If you guys are looking for new art to
spruce up your space I have such a good discount for you. Use code Alexandra for 45% off prints
and 20% off for canvas and frames. Okay this has never happened before but I am not present on prep
day. I am in bed sick. The morning of the makeover I woke up and I was like I do not feel good. I just
knew I was getting sick so we pushed the makeover by a week thinking that that would be enough time
for me to heal and get better. Well you guys let me tell you I just seem to get worse progressively
worse so I decided to just rest one more day. I didn't want Sydney to wait for her makeover any
longer so I'm sending in Graham and Alanna to take it away and cover for me and I'm so thankful
they're covering for me today so let's head into paint day. Hey guys welcome back to Handyman Graham
don't forget to hit that subscribe button smash that like button. I'm just kidding. He's not
kidding. Unfortunately Alexandra is sick today. She lost her voice so let's send her all the good
vibes. Hopefully she feels better tomorrow and she'll be here for the rest of the makeover but
the rest of the team is going to carry on without her but she's going to be here in spirit. Wish I
was there. So should we just intro the team right now? I mean the team's the same as always.
Okay so in the corner on the right we got Amanda Andrade.
The corner on the left we got Amanda Maroney.
Day one is a paint day. Probably gonna assemble some stuff as well.
We all know how much Gator loves assembling Ikea stuff.
What was that? What was that?
Something's wrong. I think her legs are backwards too. We literally have to be stopped around.
Yeah she's gonna be devastated. She's literally like guys leave something for me.
Alanna's gonna help explain design choices. And paint I assume too. Yeah if you want.
You feeling up for it? Yeah. Okay let's go.
So this is On Tour by Backdrop and their standard finish.
How would you rate my first coat paint job? 10 out of 10. 10? Yes. That's not honest.
Is there any paint on the ceiling? Is there any paint on the ground? No. That's true. Yeah I mean
I don't see any like drips or it's pretty pretty good. Because we are wallpapering the back wall,
Graham is just cutting in. We're not rolling paint and that's because when we stick the
wallpaper down it's probably not going to be straight. You're probably going to see
gaps on the sides so we want that to be blue to give the illusion that this wall is also blue.
Instead of wasting time just waiting for the paint to dry I think we're going to build the
Ikea bed and I know this is one of Alexandra's most favorite things to do during a makeover is
build Ikea stuff. I'm sure she's gonna be a little bit disappointed when she comes in tomorrow and
sees that all the Ikea stuff is built. She probably has insane FOMO right now. Wish I was there.
Alexandra told me that Sydney's last bed only had like two drawers that worked. So this new
bed that we're bringing in has huge underbed storage solutions for her. Okay next up we have
the Roman shade that we're installing on this gigantic window. I think this is like the
biggest Roman shade we've ever installed. Might be. This is from Fab Divine. They sent the Roman
shades for my makeover as well. The designs are so cool. You guys should check them out.
I love how easy it is to install. Like you literally just have to put two or three brackets
up on the wall depending on how wide it is and then it just clips into place. And if you need
to wash it just unclips really easy. I'm just gonna put a third coat of paint on the walls and
hopefully when we come in tomorrow Alexandra will be on set. We'll see you tomorrow. Bye.
Hi guys. I'm back. A little rough around the edges. Not gonna lie. But I'm gonna try my best
to push through. Graham and Alana and Amanda did such a great job holding on the fort yesterday.
The walls look amazing. This Roman shade like stunning. I love it so much. I love the pattern.
I love the color against the blue walls. This bed is so awesome. Thank you again to my team for
for pushing through. Graham and I are gonna start by wallpapering this back wall. I love
wallpapering with Graham. It's always a fun time. So let's do it. Are you joking? This is so perfect
for this style for this room. It's from Timberley Interiors. You guys know I absolutely love their
wallpaper. It's such good quality. It's so easy to use and their patterns are just so cute. Isn't
it darling? So yesterday when Graham was painting he cut into this white wall that we're wallpapering.
This is a really good tip if you're painting before you're hanging wallpaper because chances
are you're gonna see a bit of white wall because like a lot of walls aren't plum. So just by cutting
in a bit it's gonna make it look more seamless. Also we are doing what we always do throwing up
our laser line just to make sure the first panel is straight. Thank you. It's so fun doing makeovers
in like so many different styles because it gives me inspiration from like my own future spaces.
Maybe I want some folky wallpaper in my house you know. Okay so for the next panel
and each panel going forward there's no pattern to line up to which we usually use as kind of
like a puzzle piece to make sure that we are hanging the panel straight on the wall.
So we're just gonna keep using the laser level for each panel to make sure
it goes up straight just because we don't have that like visual guide of the pattern to help us.
Last panel. Going up. Going up.
This is cool. Yeah. Okay pause for a sec. Wait hold that. Just hold. I'll take that.
Can you hold it? Thanks. Just where the wall like bows a bit we're getting some bubbles. Yeah because
I think the wall goes like this. Yeah. There's a bit of a curve. Yeah. So there's some excess here.
I don't know. Well if this doesn't work then we'll probably just have to make an incision. Okay.
What we're gonna do is we're going to put a bit of heat on it. This will stretch the paper a bit
so you want to just be really careful but we're hoping it just relaxes it a bit so we can smooth
out the bubbles. So basically you guys there's like excess material because like Graham was
saying the wall bows like it's not straight so it's causing it to bubble here. The hairdryer
definitely works to get these smaller bubbles out on the side but like here. We have an extra roll
right? Yeah. It's on the credenza thing. Let them cook. Yeah. Boomstick. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Okay this
looks so good. I love it so so much. Such a great statement wall. Next up we had a custom headboard
made. So excited. Let's bring it in. Yeah. Nice. Wow. Okay. I was browsing Facebook marketplace like
a months ago and this ad popped up that said custom headboards and the photos of the headboards
were so beautiful. I like filed it in my brain. So then when it was time to start planning Sidney's
I was like we need to do one of those custom headboards. So the seller is Lisa Marie Alvis
on Facebook. I'll link the listing down below. I love this hit of pink against the blue. So pretty.
Because this is a small bedroom and the bed takes up so much of the space
I knew that we had to have like a really statement headboard and this delivers.
Okay wow. Yeah. Okay. This beautiful rug is from Lil Boi. I think you're you're carrying a lot of
weight right now because I'm not really doing much. Okay. Yeah Alayna's got the whole thing.
You can drop. Okay. Uh help me. Yeah pivot it. Yeah there. Okay. I knew that I wanted to thrift
nightstands for Sidney's bedroom but we've added all this awesome storage for her under the bed
that I wanted her to be able to access. So I found these and tasked Graham with making them movable.
Let's roll Graham cam to see how he solved this issue. The first thing Graham is doing is unscrewing
the legs and trimming them. Graham has marked the center of each leg and is using a drill bit with a
tape as the depth stop so that he doesn't drill too far. He's now hammering the bracket in place
on each leg. Finally Graham is putting the casters on. Look how gorgeous. So then when Sidney wants
to access this drawer she can just roll them this way and access that drawer. It's kind of
genius is it not? Simple switch that's going to make a big functional impact for her.
Gorgeous. Now it's time to make a bed. My favorite part.
These beautiful linen sheets are from Willett. They are so soft. I wish you guys could feel them
and linen sheets just get like softer and softer the more you wash them. We have to have some
natural linen in here. For the pillows and duvet inserts we are using Canadian down and feather.
Of course they're so comfy. Okay you guys know I love a patterned bedding moment. Love to mix
and match patterns and solids but in a room like this where there is pits of pattern sometimes I
just like to make the bed look like a cloud. Like a fluffy cream cloud. Ready? One two three.
Okay. Okay I'm so excited about these sconces. They are rechargeable. I have been seeing such
cute cordless rechargeable lights on the market that actually last a long time. This one's from
HomeSense. I picked the blue color because I think it looks really like layered. It gives
like a layered look with this wallpaper and the paint color. How cute. I love a statement light.
This one is so beautiful. It's from Mitzi. If you're wondering what size of light you should
get for your room, what I like to do, there's a little trick, is you can add the length and
width of your space. So like let's say it's like 10 feet by 11 feet. That number you convert into
inches. So what's 10 plus 11? 21. So it would be a 21 inch light that you would want. I often
just like to go a little more statement. I'm like bigger with my lighting in a small space
but that's a good rule to follow. I love all the like textures we're bringing in through fabrics
in this room because that's stunning. Oh I love it. I love it so much. Yay. Next up I'm hanging
this gorgeous mirror from Article on the Wall. We love a squiggle. Adding to the texture in the
room. The layers we love. This is really heavy though. I might need, I might need my sidekick.
Sidekick. There he comes. Jingle jangle. Jingle jangle. So it's a threaded cable. Oh why are we
doing it? Oh wheats. Oh yeah. I have never seen this before. I know. No just leave that and then
we're gonna do that side. Okay so this side first. The quicker you can do it the better
because it's quite heavy and you just dropped it. Okay what do you say that? No no no no. I know
that's how heavy this is. I know. Okay hold on. Hold on. I'm almost there. I'm almost there.
Yeah okay I'm threading it. I'm threading it. Do it until tight. I'm threading it.
Oh that looks so good. Wow. Love it. I am hanging these beautiful Desenio prints on this wall
and I'm also hanging one to cover the fuse box. No gray ugly fuse boxes in this bedroom.
Okay I wanted to bring in storage wherever I could for Sydney so I found this bunch at
HomeSense and look how much storage there is. It's like a full chest. On this wall I'm adding
a couple of these beautiful shelves that I found at HomeSense. Aren't they great? The
little bobbin detail. They're great. Okay let's hang them. There. Nice. You guys I just received
these after photos from my virtual makeover clients Meg and David. It's blowing my mind.
Not only does their living room look so beautiful but this is the mood board me and my team came up
with and sent to them. It's like a copy and paste. I'm so obsessed. It is so rewarding to see clients
implementing these makeovers and doing it virtually. I work with a limited amount of
clients every month so if you are looking to revamp your space and need some guidance
and want like a blueprint, a play-by-play of how to make your dream room come to life,
we rarely put virtual makeover consultations on sale but they are currently
15% off. You can head to alexandragator.com and purchase today. We're moving on to finishing
touches starting with these shelves. I'm styling one of the shelves with some of her books and
trinkets and the other one with a Desenio print and I'm layering in some candlesticks in the front
and a cute little clock as well. Onto the nightstands, I'm adding clusters of three
in varying heights for visual interest to both. Now onto making this bed look so cozy,
I'm adding cushions and this beautiful quilt from the Etsy shop The Empty Brand. It pulls in
all the colors we've been working with in this design. And finally, I'm placing a cute stripy
bolster pillow on the bench. Okay, it is the next day. It is time to bring Sydney in for the
reveal. Come on in. I'm so excited. Okay, you can stand right there. Can you walk me through
what your bedroom looks like before? It was super white and completely bare. Yep. Very boring. Okay,
I'm so excited for you to see. Are you ready to open your eyes on the count of three? Yeah. Okay,
one, two, three. Oh my god. This is incredible. Oh my god, it's so cute. I was hoping I would
get shelves like that. Oh my god, I actually am in like shock. Oh my god, I was hoping you'd use
my anaphrine cable. How could I not? Oh my god, amazing. I'm so overwhelmed in such a good way.
How did you fit a bench in here? I didn't even think you could fit anything in here.
These pictures are amazing. Incredible. I'm so happy. A reminder to use code ALEXANDRA for 45%
off Desenio prints and 20% off Desenio canvas and frames. Next up on AGTV, I'm bringing back Studio
Fix. I cannot wait to show you how we turned this tiny little room into a whimsical, kind of like
rustic French cottage vibe. Tiny space. We have so much to pack into it. Lock in. Click that
subscribe button. You don't want to miss it. And as always, I'll see you guys next time. Bye.
Can I tell you something? Sure. You know the little like thing, like the, like your little,
is it your tonsil? Like the little thing that dangles? It's so swollen that it's like,
it's like this. Okay. So usually it's, it goes straight like this. It hangs down like this,
but it's like curved. It's so swollen. The uvula. Hey, I did not like that.
Actually, I feel kind of good.
