The Texans might have found their secret weapon as rookie preseason standout just ranked at the top of his position according to PFF
What does this look like for the year one for the young man?
And how does this impact the team headed into a big 2026 NFL season? What's up? Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to Texans digest
I'm your host Isaac Estrada, and I'm excited to be here because we have a lot that we need to talk about in today's episode
I want to jog your guys's memory
Day two of the NFL draft we draft this young man number 59 overall coming out of Michigan
Marlon Klein so Marlon Klein was seen as a shot in the dark
He was seen as a big shot in the dark because he only had about 13 college games where he started
only about 12 or 13 college games where he started and
Picking up a rookie like that in the second round in
The second round where we knew this offensive line struggled last year and ranked among the bottom of the league
Where we knew we needed help
A lot of Houston fans, including myself were scratching our heads
Saying why would we do that? Why would we take a shot at a guy with such a little experience a guy who if we see?
right here
Didn't even pick up a football till he was 12 years old
Didn't pick up a football till he was 12 years old from Germany came here to Michigan
But this guy was a freak of nature
We knew that at the very least that this guy was a freak of nature 6 foot 6 248 pounds
We knew he was ridiculous
But
He did not have a whole lot of college experience
His entire college career consisted of three years totaling in 38 catches for 364 yards in one touchdown
so
If you're seeing Marlon Klein, you're seeing we draft him. You're thinking why would we do that?
I'll tell you why we did that because he activated it in the preseason and ended up being the highest-graded
Rookie tight end from the NFL preseason ranking with a seventy five point eight over all score
That's big for the Houston Texans. That's big for the Houston Texans. And what's even bigger is just about two days ago
Foster Monroe had said that his job Dalton Schultz jobs as leaders in that tight end position was to help
Marlon Klein be the best tight end that they think he could possibly be
Was to help elevate him was to help him as much as possible and so far that's showing
Highest rated rookie tight end in the NFL preseason. He's turning a lot of heads
He's turning a lot of heads and a lot of people think that this guy can genuinely start not week one
Not week one. We got a tiger tight end room with Dalton Schultz. We got a tight end room with Foster Monroe
We got a tight end room with now Brevin Jordan now that he's back on the squad. I
Don't think he's gonna start week one, but
What I do think he is is a great player
They had him as a prospect great of 6.1 it could have back up with the potential to turn into a starter
That's pretty solid
That's not bad at all
And I think that that's the perfect prospect great to give him considering the fact that he's gonna be in a packed tight end
Locker room. I want to take a bit of a deep dive into his college stats before we hit the prospect before we hit the
Combine numbers. I want to take a look into his college stats year one. Just one catch eight yards
Obviously, he wasn't gonna start his first year in Michigan you're to
Get a bit more playing time 13 catches a hundred and eight yards still no touchdown
He ended up getting that touchdown in his last year his junior year when he played as his senior year
24 catches two hundred and forty eight yards and hauled himself in a touchdown
With a career of 38 catches for 364 yards and a touchdown
There's not a whole lot of information there
It's not a whole lot of information there, but
Tomiko Ryan knew what he was doing
This front office knew what they were doing
Taking a shot in what we thought was the dark ended up turning out being one of the best possible
Decisions they could have made this kid looks like a star so far
And he could be exactly what the Houston Texans needed and on top of that
We see that his numbers steadily increased as he got more playing time in this locker room
He's gonna be sitting behind Dalton Schultz a
Season vet Foster Monroe a season vet Revan Jordan a guy who's been on this team since around the kovat air
So I think this can be nothing but good for the Houston Texans with the young athlete. I'm gonna show you guys once again
physical specimen six foot six two hundred and forty eight pounds only gonna get better I
Think that this can be nothing but good for the Houston Texans and now we're gonna take a look at his combine numbers
We're gonna take a look at his combine numbers because let's start off with the 40-yard dash
Everybody wants to talk about the 40-yard dash. He ranked number one in
Rookie tight ends on the 41 yard. Excuse me on the 40-yard dash with a four point six one as
a tight end
Having anything that gets around the vicinity of a four point five is insane
And he not only ranked tight end this year ranked number one among tight ends this year
He ranked number one against tight ends in recent memory last year. No one got close to getting this among tight ends
He's a great prospect and he's only gonna get bitter better
That 10-yard split is one point six four seconds that vertical jump
Most of the time we see tight ends here right around 32 to 33
He hit 36 that bronze up nine nine that three-cone drill, which obviously we don't talk about that much
7.4 to so I think that this could only be good news for the Houston Texans
And he's gonna continue to get better
He's gonna continue to get better and the last thing I want to take a look at in this episode is what they labeled
his strengths, so
For the NFL they give you all these strengths and weaknesses for prospect
These were his strengths headed into the next headed into his rookie year voted team captain for 2025 in Michigan
creates leverage points to strike from
Accelerates through contact and runs his feet. I want to pinpoint that one real quick
I want to pinpoint that one because he had that great 31-yard reception in the week one preseason game on
That 31-yard reception. He got faster and faster and faster as he kept moving
He accelerates with such a great speed that that is gonna be exactly what the Houston Texans needed not to mention
We sit here and we wonder how come we didn't take another offensive lineman to develop. We know we needed the help
He is a great pass blocker
He was a great pass blocker in Michigan and when you have a six-foot six pass blocker who is 248 pounds as a rookie
What more could you ask for?
Genuinely, what more could you ask for as a team as a fan?
What more could you ask for from him? Let's take a look at some of these other ones strong hands allow for longer sustains
once he's in
I heard another report saying he had soft hands
So I don't really know what they mean by strong hands soft hands allows for longer sustained
But either way he has a great catch radius
He has that long wingspan that allows him to haul in balls from anywhere. He needs it to be
great decision
Efficient eluding traffic and keeping routes on time. We talk about his quickness again. I know i've been harping on that a lot
There's a reason why
Being able to efficiently elude traffic and keeping routes on time. He's there when his quarterback needs him to be long story short
Let's call that mumbo jumbo out. He's there when he needs to be
He's exactly where he's going to be at when he needs to be there and that speed once again kicks into another gear
And adjusting catch timing to the barrage fastballs. He saw
so
Looking at our guy
All around some pretty good things to say about him
I think that this is going to be a great idea by the houston texans having him on the team
Having him make the final cut we saw guys like brevin jordan getting cut
This guy stayed on the team. Obviously if we drafted him in the second round, he better
But I think that was a great idea. You guys know what else I think is a great idea
the fact that I put in
$25 on a trade on cal sheet and i'm expected to almost double my pay
