Sam demonstrates how to create a cute, handmade pop-up box card that folds flat into a 5x7 size. Using materials from the \"Made to Make, Maker's Edition 3\" kit, the tutorial explains how to construct the card's structure without needing specialized dies, incorporating acetate for floating elements and various paper layers for a dimensional, sweet-themed design.
Hey everyone, it's Sam here and today I'm going to show you how to make this cute little pop-up box card.
This one folds down flat into a 5x7 size and then when you open it up you can see it all pops up.
You've got some elements on the acetate there, you've got that gorgeous little cart,
and then all the sweet treats and the little bunting along the top.
You don't need any dies to make this card, so let me show you how.
So this is my Made to Make, Maker's Edition 3, and everything that I'm using is from this kit.
As I'm filming these quite early on, this is actually January,
I don't know by the time this does eventually go out onto my YouTube channel if there's any stock available,
but if there is, it'll be linked below.
But if you're one of the subscribers, hello, I hope you enjoy today's video.
So this is a 5x7 card, so you want a piece of 5x7 and you're going to score a 4.
This is 300 heavyweight cardstock.
Then for the base part, this is a piece of 6x2.5.
Along the 6-inch side, you're going to score a 1.5", 1.5", 4.5", and 5.5".
Now you want to fold and burnish all the score lines.
Then I've got this piece here, which is going to be the support for the pop-ups.
So this is 5x1.
Along the 5-inch side, you need to score a 1.5", 1", 4", and 4.5".
Fold and burnish.
And then this bit here is going to be for the top, and I'm going to cut a scallop kind of detail into this.
So again, this is 6x1.5, because you're going to cut into this.
And you want to score the same, so 1.5", 1.5", 4.5", and 5.5".
That's the same scoring as this piece here.
Again, fold and burnish.
And then you also need some acetate, which you'll have for your pop-up pieces,
and then for the mats and layers, whilst I've got everything out.
So this was cut from a piece of, because you want your pattern,
because these are the stripes here, and it's that way round, I think,
because it's the striped paper, can you see?
There you go, the pattern lines up.
So if you cut yourself a piece of 4.25 by 6.75, and then cut it from left to right,
first cutting a piece of 3.25, then cut a piece of 2.75,
and then cut, well, the last piece will be 3.25".
That's if you're using a heavy directional pattern paper.
If it's just plain, or it's really busy, it's not going to matter,
then you don't need to worry about that.
But if you're using one of the seams from the kit,
then you'll want to make sure you cut it in that order.
So first of all, I'm going to stick this down onto here,
and then I'm going to use the pattern paper and stick it over the top to cover the tabs.
You can, if you want, stick the tabs around like so, but you'll see it won't fold completely flat,
so you'd have to cut a little bit off of the sides, which you can do.
So if you would rather have the joins at the back, but I'm going to have them at the front,
and they're going to get covered anyway.
Okay, so I've just run my glue down both those half-inch tabs.
Keep those folded under, and just stick this so it's flush with the bottom.
This is going to be how it will all stand up.
Okay, you can do a little test.
Open it up, and you've got your hexagon.
Pull that right over, so that's what really comes out.
Okay, then I'm going to take my mats and layers and stick them down.
Okay, so that's all the mats and layers stuck down.
And then this one here, so that's that wonky piece.
If you've got a die that will create like a scallop effect, then you can use that.
But I'm going to actually do this freehand.
So I'm going to grab and just roughly mark it out with a pencil.
In fact, what you can do as well is if you get something,
here we go, I'll use my little rubbing alcohol bottle.
I might use that as my shape.
You could also use a circle die.
You could use a circle punch.
Punch it out on some cardstock and use that to trace around.
Or you can do it by hand.
Now, I don't need to worry about the tabs.
So I'm actually going to just cut.
So I've cut down and left about half an inch width there.
Because you don't need much for this to attach.
Just kind of remove, similar to what I've done there.
And then I want my scallop bunting.
I just want to mimic the, here it is, my cute little cart.
I want to mimic that design there.
So I'm going to start in the middle and put the circle right at the top.
And just do a semi-circle like that.
And then put it next to it.
I'm going to cut a little bit higher than this.
And then the last one.
Go off the side.
Just give me a rough shape really.
So I'm not too worried it's not straight.
But I think that looks pretty good.
Just something like that.
So I'm going to cut that out.
There we go.
Very cute.
This piece is also completely optional.
You don't have to have anything at the top.
You might want to put a big sentiment up here.
But just fold and burnish like so.
Now that's going to attach the same way that we attached this.
It's now giving me Punch and Judy.
You know, your little seaside theatre.
So some of you might get other ideas now on ways to decorate this.
I'm just going to pop that one under there.
Going back to that Punch and Judy.
If you've got the Daisy May Punch and Judy.
It was like a seaside themed stamp set she bought out.
Then you could use that to create this style as well.
But there you have it.
How sweet is that?
I absolutely love it.
What I've done is from the die set.
See, I've created all of this.
I've got a separate video showing you how to put your card together.
Which you would have seen first anyway.
And then these bits I'm going to just use to decorate the back.
And then we want to add this one in.
So fold again both those little tabs in.
You only add a new glue onto that part.
And you want to line up these score lines with these score lines here.
And it's going to go behind here.
In fact you can just line it up.
See I'm just sliding it.
You just slide it behind there.
Like so.
I'm just holding it.
The tabs are folded under with the glue.
And then just push that down.
That's actually the easiest way to do that.
And now when you bring that one up.
We've got our platform.
And that's what you'll be able to attach your acetate to.
And then you can add all of your pop ups.
So I've got all of these different bits here.
I've got the bunting.
The cart is going to be on the front.
And I'm going to have it level with there.
So I can still have little things on there and you'll see them.
I thought that looked quite cute.
And then I think I'm going to take a trim from the paper to this one here.
I've got this one left with the sprinkles effect.
And I think that's going to tie in quite nicely.
So I think I'm going to run that along the bottom.
Once that's all stuck down I'm going to probably pop that up on a bit of foam as well.
So that's quite dimensional.
And then just add all these bits.
I might add them on the front as well with that.
So yeah, see where we go with it.
But the strips, you just want to make sure you've got like a construction weight.
When you pop your little, you know, whatever it is on the acetate,
just make sure it can hold itself upright and it doesn't topple over.
And that way you know it's going to stay upright in the card.
So there is the finished card.
How adorable.
So I've got one, three pop ups on the acetate.
The two sweets and then the donut.
I've then popped the other sweet and ice cream on some foam on the very back.
And then these two ice creams I've just actually stuck onto that piece.
And then I've added a few little bits onto the little cart there.
And then that trim along the bottom.
And it all folds down flat so that's how it will go in the envelope.
And then it easily, you know, pops up so they know how to display it.
And then you've got your space on the back.
So I hope you've enjoyed this tutorial today.
It's given you some more inspiration on ways to use the kit.
If you're watching this later on on YouTube,
because this goes out to the subscribers first,
then I hope you've enjoyed this video as well.
I will add it to the playlist of the other kind of hexagon pop up cards that I've done.
Because I have quite a few now in different sizes.
So you might like this style but you want a different sized card, check out that playlist.
As always, thank you for watching.
I will link to any of the products if they're available in the description box below.
And I'll see you in the next one.
