AI GeneratedQuarterback Aaron Rodgers expressed strong optimism regarding the Pittsburgh Steelers' wide receiver room ahead of the 2026 NFL season. He highlighted the impressive camp performances of DK Metcalf and Roman Wilson, while praising the coachability of rookie Jeremy Bernard, signaling a potential offensive improvement under head coach Mike McCarthy.
Today, quarterback Aaron Rodgers spoke on the current state of the wide receiver room here
in Pittsburgh, and it gives Steelers fans a lot of optimism surrounding that room.
We are only just one week out from the start of the 2026 NFL regular season,
and if the Steelers want to make another push, possibly to the playoff,
the wide receiver room is really going to need to step up.
How's everyone doing today? Hopefully you guys are having a fantastic Wednesday.
Before we get into Aaron Rodgers' quotes regarding DK Metcalf,
Roman Wilson, Jeremy Bernard, and kind of just the receiver room as a whole,
I want to remind you guys to subscribe to the channel to get all of your daily Steelers
information. It's going to be an awesome year with me and Nick, both on the channel,
and like I mentioned at the top of the show, only one week out from the start of the NFL regular
season. The Steelers, only it's next Sunday when they take on the Atlanta Falcons, and
it's just a really fun time. Tons of news. You're going to want to make sure you're subscribed to
the channel so you can stay on top of all of the news. Let's jump into this first quote that we got
here. Aaron Rodgers, he talked specifically in this quote about both DK Metcalf and Roman Wilson.
DK and Roman have had arguably two of what were the top five performances of camp. That is huge,
especially out of the mouth of Aaron Rodgers. Aaron Rodgers, when it comes to his relationship
with wide receivers, he's not afraid to say the hard truth out loud if a receiver is struggling,
if that connection between Rodgers and said receiver is not as strong as he wants to be.
He's not afraid to publicly come out and talk about that. Just to see him publicly come out
and talk in defense of his teammates in DK Metcalf and Roman Wilson and how well they've played
during camp gives Steelers fans a ton of optimism when it comes to a receiver room that was really
struggling last year. You had DK Metcalf and we could pull up, Aaron Rodgers had a quote on DK
Metcalf specifically saying, we got to get the ball to DK. He's our number one for a reason,
and I absolutely agree. Hopefully they can get the ball to DK Metcalf more than they, you know,
got him the ball last year. We can pull up his stats from last year. As you see, tons of years
with Seattle, but in last year with Pittsburgh, 59 catches, 850 yards for six touchdowns. That
850 yard receiving yard clip is the smallest amount of this entire NFL career. Even dating
back to his rookie year with Seattle, he still had 50 more yards than he did last year with the
Steelers. And then looking at that touchdown mark, he had six. That is tied for second lowest of this
NFL career, dating back to the only mark lower was his last year with Seattle. So if the Steelers
want to make strides on offense, which I'm sure they're going to on our new head coach, Mike
McCarthy, and if Aaron Rodgers wants to get more out of this offense than, you know, 850 yards to
DK Metcalf and tons of dump offs to Jalen Warren and Kenneth Gainwell and a lot of those guys that
involved in the offense last year. If he wants to expand upon that, I think DK Metcalf is going
to kind of be the spearhead there trying to get him the ball more. And you're really going to
want to make sure he gets the ball more as Steelers head closer to week one against the Atlanta
Falcons. And that's what we could talk about today's sponsor in Cal sheet. On Cal sheet,
you're trading directly against other users, not like, you know, against a sports book, like some
of the other, you know, apps that are out there. You're buying yes or no contracts on the outcomes
of events like sports politics, or even the weather. For example, you can bet on week one,
the Atlanta Falcons versus the Pittsburgh seals. And as you can see, the Steelers currently have
a 61% chance on Cal sheet to be the Falcons. And you can place $25 on the Pittsburgh seals to be
the Falcons and win yourself nearly $40 in cash. If you want to do that. And if you're interested
in trying out Cal sheet, you can use the link in our description to trade with $25 using code
digest NFL. Yes. Digest NFL, as you see on your screen there, and you can get $25 added to your
account instantly big week one matchup. Another receiver that we're really going to want to see,
you know, flourish is that of Roman Wilson. This is what Aaron Rogers had to say about Roman Wilson
earlier today at practice. Really, really long quote here. Roman made a repeat mistake. This was
after practice. Uh, Roman must've made some type of like Rogers mentions here mistake. Maybe they
were, you know, not on the same page, but that's a good learning experience. Cause I don't think
he's going to be doing that again, but he did say the same thing early in training camp. And we said,
Hey, on that route, you got to keep coming. So I think it's best that it happened in practice.
Roman is a great kid. He said a fantastic camp. Love to hear that. I have utmost confidence in
him. Double love to hear that he's going to have to play a bigger role for us, but mistakes can
happen. That's a great one to happen in practice, but he's got to get a lot better. And I'm really
proud of Roman, just awesome things to hear from Aaron Rogers when it comes to Roman Wilson,
because in his small sample size that we've even seen him on an NFL field with the Steelers,
we haven't really seen anything in 2024. He put up a zero burger when it came to, you know,
any receiving stats. Didn't really touch the field at all. Only played one game. And then
last year, 12 catches for 106, 166 yards and two touchdowns for a number three option.
You can assume we'll be at least starting out in the regular season. We'll probably be the number
three option behind DK Metcalf and then Michael Pittman jr. You're going to want to see a lot
more out of Roman Wilson than 166 yards. And considering what Rogers said about Roman here,
you've got to feel really good about it. He has confidence in him. They obviously had some
disagreements or had some miscommunication on route. Seems like Roman's learning about it.
Roman's awesome, a great kid, and Rogers just really proud of him. So that's just such great
words to hear from Rogers when it comes to Roman, because if there's anyone that's really going to,
you know, need to make a big jump on this offense, it's Roman Wilson. If he doesn't,
I don't know what his future is going to hold for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the, you know,
the 2027-2028 regular season. So, or even in the playoffs, if the Steelers were to make the
playoffs this year, I don't know what, you know, would possibly be his future if he doesn't make
a big impact here. So he really needs to do that. And it seems like Roger has great confidence
in that as well. We've talked about DK, no quotes from Michael Pittman Jr., which is interesting.
I wouldn't worry about that, but nothing, you know, that Aaron Rogers quoted on him today,
got quotes on Roman Wilson. And then we got to round it out here with wide receiver number four,
the really highly anticipated Jeremy Bernard. This is what Aaron Rogers had to say about Bernard.
He's got a great attitude. He really wants to learn. The best thing I could say about him is
that he hasn't made repeat mistakes. Again, you heard that with Roman Wilson, being able to learn
from those mistakes, learn from those mistakes, really important for young receivers. There's
mistakes that are going to happen to, that are going to happen as part of the game, especially
for young guys. But when he does make a mistake, he takes it to heart and studies it and make sure
he doesn't repeat that same thing. Love to hear this from a young receiver being coachable,
you know, learning from his mistakes because Jeremy Bernard has a lot of high expectations
coming into, you know, this season. And then more specifically, kind of the future of this
wide receiver room. We might not see a whole lot of Jeremy Bernard this year. I hope we do,
because if we do, that means he's really balling out. But right now he's currently wide receiver
four. I wouldn't be surprised if, you know, maybe you want to see a little more of Jeremy Bernard
than we might see of him. See how Mike McCarthy wants to use him in an offense. I think he's a
super fun player that can be used in a ton of different ways that, you know, Coach McCarthy
might really love. But if you don't remember, 6'1", 206 pounds, out of Alabama, played with a
ton of colleges here, spent his first year with Michigan State, bounced over to Washington and
then finished out his collegiate career with Alabama. Steelers drafted him with their second
round pick, 47th overall. So just that investment alone in the second round tells you the Steelers
have really good feelings about him and feels like Rodgers is speaking that same sentiment.
So really awesome to hear about all three of these guys. I want to let you guys down in the
comments below. I want to hear from you guys. What do you guys think about this current wide
receiver room? Do you think DK Metcalf is going to make a big jump, possibly eclipse that 1,000
yard mark that he's done a few times? What do you think about Michael Pittman, Jr., him coming in
from Indianapolis? Do you think he's going to fare into the offense? And then with the younger
guys, Roman Wilson, Jeremy Bernard, are we going to see big impacts from them? I'm really curious
from you guys. I'd love to hear you guys, you know, talk about that stuff in the comments.
Just some housekeeping things, got to talk about some of the injured players that returned back
to practice. I mentioned this in a video not too long ago about these guys ramping up and
we did see these guys in practice. DK Metcalf, Michael Pittman, Jr., and Ben Skoronek, all
recently hurt, all back in practice. Will Howard and Riley Nowakowski both faced a concussion
against Buffalo. They're both back. Dequan Brisker, really excited to see Dequan Brisker,
getting ready to practice again. Have really high expectations of him being one of the premier,
if not the premier, safety on this team as we head into the regular season, especially when
you account for DeSean Elliott being on IR. And then also defensive lineman Sebastian Joseph Day,
more of that rotational guy, but still great veteran presence. Love to see him back.
And then Joey Porter, Jr., also did work in individual periods. Had a big video on this
yesterday. Go check that out if you missed it. They're in this ramp up period with him and he's
back. He was on the field working out. No contract just yet, but really good signs for Joey Porter,
Jr. and how soon we're going to see him back on the field for the black and gold. Well, that's
going to do it for today's episode. Hopefully you guys enjoy. It's going to be a really awesome
season. Make sure you stay here on Steelers Digest as we give you all the information that you guys
need as we take, as the Pittsburgh Steelers take on the Atlanta Falcons in just 12 days times.
I'll see you guys tomorrow.
