Giants 53-Man Roster Is Set | 1015

Hello, and welcome back to Talkin' Giants, brought to you by Fanatic Sports and Casino.
Today is September 1st, 2026, and the Giants 53-man roster is set, mostly set.
Of course, things could change, but on August 31st, on Monday, they make no waiver claims.
The initial 53 was announced on Sunday, and we thought, okay, here comes a defensive lineman.
Here comes maybe a corner.
I was kind of rooting for an outside chance that they were going to bring in another wide
receiver over Abraxson Berrios.
They did not.
They didn't even put in a waiver claim.
It wasn't even like they lost out to anybody.
They kind of liked the 53 that they got, at least for now.
Sean Marash, how are you doing?
I'm doing great, Justin, and we're going to break this all down, but I do have to get
something kind of off my chest that I think a lot of people can relate to.
Like, we're inside of two weeks now, dude.
We got the 53.
We got the practice squad, and doing these shows with you twice, three times a week,
this entire run since Harbaugh has been hired, I don't think I've allowed myself for this
to wash over me.
It has been, what do the Giants have to do here?
What do the Giants have to do there?
We have broken down this team ad nauseam and then broken it down some more, and I sat there
on Sunday night, and I looked at the clock, and it said 8 o'clock.
I was outside of my backyard, and I said, you know, all this time talking about the
Giants, I'm talking Giants and WFAN, the time has now hit me where I realize from a
fan perspective, the absolute tingle of nervousness in my balls and every male listener out there's
balls that we will have at that time, 8 o'clock, inside of two weeks on that Sunday now, is
unbelievable.
Like, John Harbaugh has put together his 53-man roster.
We've watched the preseason games.
We are, like, we're ready to rock now.
Like, we have a team, and John Harbaugh is coaching it.
So I don't know, man.
Maybe it's just doing all of these shows that I do with you and with Evan and with Tiki
that now giant psychopath fan that cries after they beat the Eagles is now, like, emerging
out of the ground, like, you know, kind of wasps come out of a nest.
And I think, you know, analyzing me is going to put to the side here, and I just, I can't
believe it.
Like, it's ball-tingling time, Justin.
Yeah, man.
This is it.
And I usually don't feel it until our Cowboys preview pod, I'm going to feel it.
And then all day Sunday, I'm waiting all day.
It's not just me.
You're literally waiting all day for Sunday night.
It's going to be a slow burn, and I'm going to be burying my head and doing, you know,
the short videos that I do for JM Football and trying to cover all.
I'm going to be burying my head in work, kind of avoiding the nerve.
But once those four o'clock games ends, I I'm I'm like, my knee is jumping right now.
You probably can, like, see it if you're on YouTube.
My knee is just jumping right now about how nervous I am going to be because there's expectations.
It's not just like it's not just like nervousness because, oh, I hope they don't lose there.
There is expectations for this team to at least just not be embarrassed.
Like they have been on national television and early on in the year like they have.
And not to cut you off, that's what it's all about, right?
Because we've talked about Jackson Dart in year two.
We've talked about John Harbaugh.
We've talked about all of this in a positive way.
And I think even some of us as Giants fans, not that we want it, but have almost even
accepted the idea of, hey, it's going to be OK if this team starts 0-2.
Look at the schedule after. It's different now.
But just the idea of like, OK, A, what if they win and they actually start 1-0?
That's number one. Number two, just can't get embarrassed.
You're right. Like that is a baseline bare minimum.
This era cannot start with the Cowboys rubbing our nose in it on Sunday Night Football.
So I don't know, man, like I'm glad you just made me feel more normal that you said
you're going to feel it more that week because it finally hit me.
And I thought, wait, am I late to the game as a Giant fan that like now this is finally
hitting me that we're for real here, even after watching all these preseason games?
Like it didn't hit me watching any of the preseason games.
You know, and what's awesome, too, and this is what you get when you whenever you get
a new offense, a new scheme, new coaching in here.
I really don't I don't know what to expect.
I especially don't know what to expect from this offense
and what kind of offense we're going to get.
How much physicality are they going to show running the ball?
Is that just a is that just a talking point or is it real?
You know, can they control the line of scrimmage with the Dallas Cowboys?
No. Granted, an improved rushing defense, right?
Like, can they control a game in that type of way?
Like they're you know, like when they when you play a bad football team,
like a flat out, just bad football team that has a bad defense,
horrible depth, horrible everything.
It's pretty easy to kind of take control of the game
and just run the ball and play old school football.
But there are a good amount of teams, the best teams in the NFL.
Forty niners the last couple of years.
The Bills have started to do this.
The Eagles, when their offensive line is right,
that they could just run the ball whenever they want.
And there is a little bit of an expectation that the Giants
should be able to do that, but we haven't seen it yet.
You know? Yeah.
And then there's the whole quarterback thing and neighbors coming back.
And what does that look like? So? Yeah, that's exactly it.
So again, we're going to get to the 53rd.
I just felt, you know, this is a it's a therapy session on Talking Giants.
You guys are listeners.
You're all giant fans like Justin and I.
And I just I don't know.
Usually I feel like the beginning of August, I'm way ahead of steam.
And I just I feel like my fan version of myself didn't get there
until yesterday.
And now I'm like, oh, my God, this is happening.
Yeah. I'm also forcing you to, you know, now this
we had a full offseason together.
I'm forcing Sean to really, really, really be in the weeds with me on a day
and day out basis of everything that's going on with this team.
And I feel like, you know, kind of not to like say, like, oh, poor us,
as you know, because this is an awesome show
and this is an awesome community that we have.
But I feel like with with doing a show like this
that goes twice a week and an hour and three times a week in season,
it is harder a little bit to enjoy
those little moments of appreciation, because at least for me,
like I'm always looking to the next thing, the next thing that I have to do,
the next video I have to make, the next thing to click publish
and the next thing that I could chase that is that big view number.
You know what I mean?
So, yeah, no, I'm absolutely with you, Justin.
I'm absolutely with you.
So away we go, man.
We got a 53.
We got somewhat of a practice squad.
Let's chop it all up.
Yeah. So let's let's take a look at that 53 man roster.
And I figured kind of go through position by position.
Some positions will have longer conversations than others.
So, for example, quarterback, not a very long conversation.
They keep two quarterbacks and also want to give a shout out to you and I.
I'm not telling you to go back
and relisten to our 53 man roster prediction episode.
Either you listen to it from the spring or you listen to it
or you listen to it from the summer just last week.
I think we were pretty damn good, Sean.
Like we had the same 53.
Ironically enough, we did not plan that.
But I thought our predictions were pretty, pretty good
outside of just a couple.
Yeah, I don't want to hear in there.
Yeah. And I know we're going to do quarterback first.
But like, I think we basically got I mean, we couldn't get a Koya.
We Fedoni. We're going to talk about that.
That's almost by default.
And we even mentioned the name Brian Hudson.
How many times we you know, we flip flopped how many times back and forth.
But it wasn't like we thought that was outlandish
that he could make the team as well.
And the fifth safety thing with Elijah Campbell.
We were all over as we were saying that since the spring.
And so you're born.
I had over Moose House in the spring as well.
Yeah. Oh, good for you.
Yeah. Good for you.
Yeah. I had the Elijah.
Did you also have five safeties in the spring?
Yes, I did. Yeah.
But I had no braid in the spring.
I had a lot of Campbell most recently.
And I had Elijah Campbell in there.
So I think we did a pretty good job, especially when looking at how many
guys they carried per position.
That is especially where I thought that we shine.
So two quarterbacks.
No, Brandon Allen.
They did bring back Jake Keener.
He is one of the practice squad members, Jackson Dart and Jameis Winston.
Yep. I guess that look, obviously nothing sexy to talk about there.
I did when talking about meritocracy, that seems to be a big word.
A lot of giant fans are using around like this coaching staff or everything.
It again, right off the bat, very refreshing, even if it's just the practice
squad that Brandon Allen, who essentially sucked for all we could see,
was not just gifted a practice squad spot because he's, you know,
tight with the quarterbacks coach in Brian Callahan.
And instead they go with the guy that they signed two weeks ago in Jake Keener.
So very minimal.
Look, if the Giants have to play Jake Keener,
it's probably a terrible situation anyway, so it doesn't deserve that much time.
But two quarterbacks also tells you that this is a coaching staff,
at least for now, that feels pretty confident
they're not going to be losing Jackson Dart early in games
that they've installed in him how to protect himself.
Yeah, absolutely.
Four running backs.
They carry Cam Scadaboo, Tracy, Devin Singletary, Najee Harris.
No surprise.
Tyrone Tracy does make the roster if there is any doubts there.
I do not see Damone Bankston back on this practice squad, by the way.
There are still four spots left on the practice squad.
That is true.
And one of them, two guys went to other places.
One of them can three of them.
Research, there's three elevations per player.
I'm trying to figure out how many can be elevated on a certain game.
Three of the four available spots can be veterans per research.
And also the team announcement as well.
And Berrios is one of those veterans, obviously.
Berrios is already on the practice squad.
Oh, you meant the empty four spots.
I'm sorry. Yes. Yeah.
Forget. So as of as of 824 p.m. on August 31st,
you know, you always got to date yourself this this time of the year.
There are four spots still available.
Three of the four spots can be veterans on the practice squad.
We'll go through is on the practice squad as we go through position.
So no, no running backs as of right now in the practice squad.
No running backs.
But again, for four running backs in general on the team, not so sure
you need another one on the practice squad.
But we'll see what happens to Bankston wide receiver.
They carry five.
There's some roster gymnastics happening here.
Neighbors, Slayton Mooney, Malachi Fields and Odell Beckham Jr.
Dillon Braxton Berrios is on the practice squad right now.
That's where the roster gymnastics comes in, because Braxton Berrios
is going to be on the active roster by the time week one comes.
They're just using the fact that he is a veteran and he's a vested veteran
to their advantage that they could have released him
and he didn't go open to waivers.
Wide receiver Dillon Cambry is also on the practice squad as well.
Jalen Hyatt made it back to the practice squad as well
after being released a third round pick of the 2023 NFL draft.
So again, fascination in the room, because we've talked about
all of these guys at nauseam, and I I can't help but wonder
with the five wide receivers and all the roster gymnastics,
what actually would have happened had Calvin Halston not gotten hurt.
Something very clear, though, Justin, it's very odd that we sit here
where Paul Schwartz publishes that article almost like right after
we had done our last show about Darius Slayton in his future.
And then he ends up keeping it seems like day at least.
And you saw LPG tweeting it.
We're like flirting with trying to make a move with Slayton again.
I don't know who was trading for that contract, but he is on the team.
And overall, he probably should be on the team
because of when you just look at this room, if any injury pops up.
So a little odd to see only five.
It feels a little naked.
But if three wide receivers are on the practice squad
and Berrios essentially is an active roster guy.
Yeah, it does make some sense.
I think overall the biggest surprise is probably still a Jalen Hyatt
was brought back, which, you know, again, small potatoes, but interesting.
Yeah, with Jalen Hyatt, it's been hurt for the last
however many weeks hasn't practiced. Mm hmm.
And then conveniently, the day after he's cut and day after 53 man
cut down day, he's back out there running around in 13
while Odell still wearing three.
So it very much just feels like they stashed him.
They stashed him for, I guess, to he I think he actually was having
like I mean, in West Virginia, he was having a decent camp.
So what happened? So what happened?
The Giants, he had him.
And they said, listen, we want to keep you.
But we know we don't have the numbers for you.
And he is a player.
It didn't have enough pride in himself to go.
No, I'm going to practice on.
Like, what is that?
And this is typically a player that in the past, like
has gotten pretty upset with this,
whether it be former coaching staff or this regime.
And, you know, remember the rumor?
And I think it was pretty much confirmed that he storms
into Joe Shane's office and sort maybe even sarcastically
a little bit of tongue in cheek, says, if you're not going to play me,
trade me.
So this is a guy that I thought that would want a fresh start,
like seemingly like a lot of other people that have come in and out,
like even Darius Slayton being one of those other guys,
a wide receiver that would need a fresh start
and maybe even would benefit from a fresh start.
But nevertheless, Jalen Hyatt, he is back.
So, yeah, it back.
And do you want to do the number thing here?
As long as we're here, you want to save that?
The number. Oh, I mean, oh, yeah.
Yeah. I mean, he's Jalen Hyatt is a practice squad player
and he's not on the active roster.
Therefore, he doesn't have the right to say what he
what number he's wearing on the practice field.
What are we talking about?
O'Dell at least acknowledged the fact that, you know, he wants it back.
He'd like to get it back,
but felt like he was trying to be respectful
about potentially paying off Jalen Hyatt.
You don't need to pay him. He's not on the roster.
This is different.
It's a guy who's already wearing it, who just stayed with the team
on the practice squad.
He's going to he's going to have it, but it is a little minor controversy.
I at least just say this above anything else.
Whenever when O'Dell made the team and everyone else about the number 13,
I think that of all the practice squad moves, we were the most stunned
as a fan base, the Jalen Hyatt.
When you think about like Evan Neal being cut,
Jalen Hyatt somehow survived as a horrible guy.
Just it feels so mind boggling.
Without practice where, you know, how, you know, the whole meritocracy
about it blows my mind again, the whole meritocracy thing.
And the quote that came from came out from Brandon Brown.
Nobody wants to miss a practice.
They feel like if they're missing a practice,
they're possibly sacrificing something that everything is on the line
every single day.
Meanwhile, this is a guy that we haven't seen the last couple of weeks,
and he's back on the practice squad.
All right.
Like I would have preferred him.
I would have preferred like Xavier Gibson.
Giants don't have a backup returner right now.
Really great point.
You know what?
If you go to the fanatic sports and casino, Justin and I were to give you
a bet that doesn't exist over under a half a cat for Jalen Hyatt
on the Giants this year.
I mean, half.
That means can he does he get elevated at any point?
Does Jalen Hyatt have a single catch on the active roster this year?
God, I hope not.
OK, no, but but hope not is not an answer.
Yes or no.
No injuries happen.
OK, so he's going to hide the whole year on the practice squad
and never have an elevation.
No injury.
No, nothing. All right.
OK. All right.
Everything's going to go great.
Do you think he has one catch?
I think we I think we have a week where three receivers are down.
Something stupid is going to happen in Jalen Hyatt
because Jalen Hyatt on the practice squad tells me at some point
I'm not done with this guy.
He's poking his head out and he's going to make an appearance.
Dalyn, Dalyn Cambridge is going to get called up before he does.
That's true.
Again, we hope we don't see him, but we're still talking about neighbors
and Beckham and, you know, see these guys stay healthy.
Yeah. So you touched on the whole Darius Slayton point of this, too.
I am very glad that seemingly was to maybe just bait a team
into trading and giving up a pick that the Giants would have liked.
You know, yes.
Again, you know, I know I'm the Darius Slayton guy, blah, blah, blah.
I know he's not Jerry Rice.
That's not the point.
But look, just try and use your brain for a second and not your heart.
Malik neighbors is coming off a major injury.
Darnell Mooney also kind of coming off a year where he's hurt,
but also Darnell Mooney is now seemingly your starting slot receiver.
Malachi Fields is a rookie and Odo Beckham Jr.
has been perpetually hurt throughout his entire career.
So you can't I think you cannot trade away
Darius Slayton unless it is for a pick that knocks your socks off.
And it's like, all right, well, cool.
Like the team's desperate.
Desperate time calls for desperate measures for a team
like the Houston Texans are trying to go for it unless they got that.
They need Darius Slayton.
Listen, I'm with you on that.
This is a very selfish me being a self-serving pig,
which oftentimes I like to be in my life.
I just feel very refreshed based on all reports and all accounts
that ended up coming here at the end with Darius Slayton
that the intel I had was very spot on, which was every reporter
talking about how Slayton was going to be wide receiver, too.
Didn't jive with the vibes I was getting from what was being discussed
amongst that coaching staff.
And I think also let's also let's also I also want to like
not cover for myself, but I want to be real.
Darius Slayton doesn't even look like the same player that he was in 2022.
New does not.
Or yes, exactly.
So like Malachi Fields has taken it.
Odo Beckham Jr. at age 34.
And we can even transition to him briefly.
You know, we talked about this basically knew that Odo Beckham Jr.
making this 53 was going to be set in stone.
I think even after after the preseason game, when John Harbaugh says he may
he he has the right he earned making an NFL roster would be very weird
if John Harbaugh said that he earned making an NFL roster
and that he didn't make the Giants.
That'd be very weird if he went out of his way to say that.
But he really did earn it, man.
And I am now at the point where as long as Odo Beckham Jr.
is healthy with the wide receiver depth that they have in this team
with the interesting position that they are now in that slot wide receiver.
I think Odell can really contribute to this team.
And I did not think that he was going to look this good
after having nine NFL catchers over the last two years.
He earned it.
I am now I am now genuinely excited to see him play
because I know that this isn't just going to be some old man
washed version of him.
Yep. You know, and I go a step further.
You mentioned Mooney, which clearly seems like a plan.
I think there is a place in this 2026 roster for Odo Beckham Jr.
to log the most slot snap. Please. Please.
I think because I mean, I don't think he's going to burn a lot of guys
on the outside.
I could see him being crafty enough on the inside versus nickel corners.
Yeah. I mean, I think Mooney can be the guy that I think they were going.
They were going to target Calvin Olson deep down the field
because Calvin Olson has done that in his NFL career.
Take those releases.
He has gotten slot fades and things like that.
So Darnell Mooney, very similar thing where he Darnell Mooney
is more or less kind of had a Darius
Slayton ish type of role on teams where he is targeted deep down the field.
Odo Beckham Jr.
I think could be the the crafty guy
that's targeted in the short to intermediate part of the field.
Even more of a better route runner than Darnell Mooney right now.
I'm completely with you.
That's where I hope they split.
I would have liked Sean.
I'm not like, man, I'm not angry.
But there was like a point where I'm like, they cut Braxton Barrios.
They said that, yeah, we intend to bring him back to the active roster.
There was part of me that thought that if there was an opportunity
to add an upgrade either at the slot or returner,
I would have been fine with moving on from Braxton Barrios.
Like if the Giants deemed that Charlie Jones, who went to Purdue
and he was with the Bengals for the last couple of years,
if the Giants really deemed that Charlie Jones was an upgrade,
I would have been totally fine with signing him over Barrios.
But again, Barrios is going to be on this active roster.
Eventually, he is going to be the Giants lead punt returner, which is fine.
Or return man.
And I don't look I don't think they're completely married
where if they feel like they're getting nothing out of that
or he does have the case of the fumble ruskies, he'll get cut anyway.
It's just funny that we come back to pre the Brian Byrne softball game
and you realize Gunnar Olszewski is probably a more important injury
than we'd like to have given it credit for.
Yeah. You know, because how much I would feel better about that
than Braxton Barrios.
I would even feel I would even feel a little bit better about Gunnar being like
like if you really need a slot wide receiver, you know what I mean?
Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it looks enough like Cole Beasley.
And he was fine down the stretch last year.
The Raider game.
Dude, this is so, so huge.
Malik neighbors seemingly ramping up for week one
just makes you feel so much better about this wide receiver room, too.
I completely agree.
Neighbors are going to be a factor.
They might bring them along slowly, but I bet you not as slowly as we think.
Tight end and fullback Isaiah Likely, Theo Johnson, Chris Mann hurts Thomas
Fedoni and of course, Patrick Ricard making the active roster
to no tight end on the practice squad.
But obviously the guy that sticks out here is Thomas Fedoni.
Theo Johnson has been struggling with the shoulder injury
over the last week or two.
He had he wore a red non non-contact jersey today in practice.
It's good to see him return to practice.
So Fedoni is the guy that sticks out the most.
Also feels like the guy that is the sacrificial lamb
that may be the first to go
just as an insurance policy right now for an injured Theo Johnson.
Right. You nailed it.
A thousand percent.
It doesn't mean that they don't like Fedoni,
but it's Fedoni making the roster.
Theo Johnson is 100 percent no shoulder injury.
And they know for a fact fact he's going versus Dallas.
I don't know.
Like, I think he's probably the first guy cut and they do keep
or maybe they they protect him and this is their way
getting them on the practice squad while everybody else figures out their roster.
But I do think the Theo injury absolutely plays into the fact
that they kept this many tight ends and sacrificed that wide receiver six spot.
Here's what I kind of hope happens.
I hope they maybe.
Well, then you have a lot of.
Well, if you want to be technical about things,
there's technically five defensive linemen in that room right now
because Chauncey Goldston can be like this flex edge slash.
Yeah, because he only kept three edges.
Right. Without listing Goldston as an edge.
Yeah. So here's my overall hope.
Theo Johnson shoulder injury.
We're going to get healthy.
We're going to get right.
See you in Dallas week one.
We sign another defensive lineman.
We don't release anybody in that defensive line room.
We bring Thomas Fedoni back to the practice squad
since they have more they have they've room on the practice squad.
Right. Yeah.
You sign another defensive lineman.
You don't have to cut anybody from that room.
And then you put Thomas Fedoni on the practice squad.
That's kind of what I hope happens.
Yes. And I know we'll get to the defensive line room.
But what's to stop you unless a guy is currently on another practice squad
from just signing the defensive lineman to the practice squad?
Well, you mentioned we have three or four veterans.
But I think they need active bodies in that defensive line room, though.
I mean, six active bodies, five, five.
If I let's say let's just start calling them five and a half. OK.
All right. Fine.
You know, because you forget Bobby James and Travis is there.
Is that a guy you try to replace that instead of what you replace?
And he goes to the right. Right.
They have there's options.
But I would just say that's my that's my number one choice.
You know what? Semantics. I get what you're saying. Yeah.
Fullback Grant Finley has made the practice squad as well.
He's going to be the backup to Patrick Ricard.
Offensive line.
They carry nine.
We debated, are they going to carry nine?
Are they going to carry ten during the spring?
I thought they were going to carry ten.
I kind of wanted them to carry ten.
And then I'm like, nah, ten's a little overkill.
They carry nine.
Aaron Stinney is the main backup guard.
He's going to be the swing guard.
Of course, Marcus Bowe and J.C. Davis make it as well.
And then they opt with youth.
Brian Hudson is the ninth offensive lineman.
He is going to be the backup center.
Yes. So here's my overall takeaway,
clearly, because I'm speaking, you dumb idiot.
Ten never actually made sense the more you thought about it,
because there is versatility within games in absolute pinch situations.
I mentioned Illuminor's ability to slide into guard if need be.
And you play Marcus Bowe at right tackle.
They clearly love what J.C.
Davis did down the stretch there.
And like, I question if Andrew Thomas were to get hurt on opening night,
are we moving Illuminor over, putting Bowe in?
Or does J.C.
Davis step right up and play left tackle?
Like, I don't know, man.
They seem like pretty.
Do they have two swing tackles where one's a left guy, one's a right guy?
But as far as the interior,
I know you and I differed a little bit on Stinney.
I kind of feel like Stinney can play both guards, no problem.
And Brian Hudson, Harbaugh mentioned this,
came down to youth and upside over Lucas Patrick's
veteranship, which I think is smart.
Brian Hudson, the Giants had the smarts signed to the active roster in December
before Harbaugh got here to kind of protect him.
He definitely had interest.
And I think Brian Hudson would have been one of those waiver claims today
should the Giants had caught him.
And you saw Lucas Patrick was not.
And you know, Lucas Patrick getting hurt.
If John Michael Schmidt suffers a concussion in game,
you're sitting there stranded for a center.
And that is a worry.
So I think Brian Hudson over Patrick in the end did make sense.
Going back to when they signed Lucas Patrick.
I'm kind of surprised if you were to tell me then
that he would have been the one cut.
But I think a lot of this makes sense.
And then just before you respond to all that,
I do have to also just ask.
I know social media isn't where everybody lives,
but I do know that we have like a hardcore base that lives on social media.
Clearly, you guys see us on Twitter and Instagram.
I just want to know that there were some of you out there.
In fact, a lot of you that the moment Joss Azudu got traded,
there was like this groundswell of this must mean Evan Neal is making the team.
And when you stare at the 9-0 linemen they kept and like,
I know we did a show afterwards, like, no, like Evan Neal's not on the team.
Who did everybody forget it?
But was it Aaron Stinney?
Like, who did everybody forget about that?
They thought that Evan Neal somehow was making this team.
Not and I less than 50 percent of people on our like 50,000 prediction.
And maybe it was my algorithm, Justin.
But it was like one by one.
I guess Evan Neal impressed.
I guess I don't know.
What are we talking about here?
He's not on the team.
Just do the math on the guys on the team.
He didn't even make the practice squad.
He didn't make anybody's practice squad.
Gerard Gray, an international pathway player.
Exemption.
He's going to be on the practice squad.
And then also Ryan Schnerner.
Oh, my God.
Schnerner. Oh, my God.
Whoa. Give it to us, Justin.
Try it again. Let's go.
Just sound like a speech impediment.
Ryan Schnerner.
Oh, my God.
Insert joke about me there.
Go ahead.
Schnerner.
I've gotten that before, too, so.
And one of our O-line cuts has made somebody else's practice squad.
Jay Kubas. Yes.
Yes. Patriot with three of our former coaches there in New England.
Did you see what the Post put out today?
No, but you just sounded like a 60 year old man, which I love.
League sources told the Post that center is a position
the Giants are thought to be targeting before week one with an eye out
for a potential challenger to John Michael Schmitz.
Again, we're going to talk about this more with the deal when we get there.
Who is this magical center that the Giants are picking up
that's going to challenge for John Michael Schmitz?
It's better than Brian Hudson's upside.
Or I mean, do they give up like a fourth round pick?
But also what team is trading like a starting caliber center?
The Chargers just lost their center.
Like, what are we talking about here?
And I don't love JMS, but I would guess that guy.
And that answer is probably Brian Hudson.
They hope could push by midway through this year.
Yeah, I don't.
Here's the guy.
Lucas, I don't see it. Yeah.
You know what I mean?
Like, who are they?
Who are they trading for?
It's better than Lucas Patrick that they cut.
So I get the report.
And maybe that's like lighting a fire in the JMS.
Maybe. Maybe all of this is fire lighting.
I don't know.
But I just I don't see who they would acquire there.
Yeah. And if I'm giving up draft capital,
can I improve the freaking D line room or the quarterback room?
Yeah, it seems to be more of a priority. Yeah.
All right, Sean, before we keep going.
Oh, my God.
Look how beautiful you just looked.
Oh, my God.
Before we keep going, Sean,
I do want to talk about the fanatic sports and casino
because football is almost back, and that means it's almost time
to get after it with the fanatic sports and casino.
Big news.
Fanatics just move betting, trading and casino games all into one app.
We used to be separate is now all under one roof.
Rough. What accent is that, by the way?
Rough. Yeah. Under one roof.
Not roof. Roof. Like, I don't know.
Yeah. Maybe it's maybe it's Philly.
One app, one account, one rewards program.
So you've got everything in one place heading into the season fan cash.
It ties it all together.
Earn it on eligible bets, trades or casino play
and spend it across the fanatics world.
Merch tickets, collectibles, bonus bets and more.
If you're if you're already a fanatics customer,
there's nothing to do besides just update the app, your account,
your funds and all your fan cash all carry over with the automatic update.
If you're getting ready to lock in your football bets this season,
fanatic sports and casino is the place to do it because winning hits
different here.
Let's go. Bang. All right.
That's the line.
And now we're moving on to the defense.
25 players on offense, 25 players on defense
and three players on specials as of right now.
How do you like that?
OK, I do like it.
Sounds about right.
Interior D line.
The Giants did pull the bandaid off and they listed Chauncey
Golston as an interior.
They listed him as a D line in an interior D line, you know, defensive end.
Whatever you will, whatever you may have it as.
DJ Reader, Shelby Harris, Chauncey Golston, Darius Alexander makes it
Bobby James and Travis and CJ Okoye.
Well, of course, they just traded for from the Baltimore Ravens.
If you missed our show on CJ Okoye, I think he's going to be
a backup nose tackle, which is valuable for a DJ reader
who's going to be on the field for around 50 ish percent of the snaps.
CJ Okoye is a strong dude.
He's listed at like six, six, 365 pounds
from an international pathway player from the Chargers.
A couple years back has spent two two years with the Chargers,
two preseasons with the Chargers and the last two preseasons
with the Baltimore Ravens as well.
I do think he had a better preseason than Bobby James and Travis
and Darius Alexander.
He had some nice run stops throughout this preseason.
It's very hard to move off the spot
and he has some knockback power to his game as well. Strong dude.
So that's where you're going to get out of CJ Okoye.
And I can imagine they're probably going to flex him,
not just on the nose tackle, too, because they probably will need him.
They and that's exactly it.
They need the need because we're being real.
Bobby James and Travis's role whenever active is going to also be
like the nose tackle type.
So they seem pretty much padded in terms of they know
who's going to play the nose and DJ readers out.
But you can't just afford to treat all three of those guys
as strictly nose tackles and leave yourself vulnerable
where it's just Shelby Harris, Golston and Alexander sucking up
any and every last snap that doesn't come from the nose tackle position.
So I'm with you.
I think Okoye is going to have to probably play next to Rita or even BGT
BJT at times.
Yeah, I'm not.
I'm not penciling in Bobby James or Travis for any snaps right now.
I'm not even I am loose by virtue.
He's getting on the field at some point this year by virtue.
Yeah. For one hundred.
I'm talking about early on while we have this version of the 53.
Like there's a lot of guys that I'm writing in pen on this roster.
I'm writing his name in pencil.
He's probably an active, probably an inactive or or I mean,
if they add another guy, like I said, that the preference is to release
a Thomas Fedoni, but then, you know, you bring up the fact that
you've been talking about Bobby James and Travis is a guy
that you probably can just sneak back on the on the practice squad
if there is another defensive lineman out there that is better than him.
So think about this.
How many D linemen got claimed on waivers and a bunch were cut?
Do you know the answer to this? Because I do.
No, I don't.
In the entire league, all the defensive linemen that were cut.
Only one got claimed on waivers.
Only one. I'm forgetting which player and team it was, but that was the stat.
So I say that to say, are we really nervous to Bobby James and Travis who?
No, no, not as a top seven round pick is going to get claimed.
No, no, I'm not nervous about it.
Ben Barton, UDFA from Wisconsin, made the practice squad.
Look out for him.
If you ever if he ever gets called up, he's going to block a kick.
And then defensive lineman Josh Topu as a veteran
Tupou, excuse me, has also made the practice squad as well.
Those are the two defensive linemen they're carrying.
Goodbye, Zach Pickens, forever.
Good. Oh, don't say that.
Senior bowl standout.
Sorry. I'm sorry.
Look, overall,
I know we're going to talk about like, are there guys you want to add?
Let's talk about that.
OK, I was just let me say
there are several guys. I know you have a list.
To me, only one really jumps out that I would like seriously investigate.
This room is not going to get massively better by some other,
you know, claim that would have happened.
And they didn't claim anybody or like perhaps a signing.
For me, it's it's McKinley Jackson.
That's the defensive tackle from the Bengals. And here's why.
He is the one player out of all the defensive tackles that were cut
that checks the box of there's a chance we still don't know.
And I think a lot of these other guys, either we probably do know
or they were picked like a ratio.
And Benny, I know we're going to talk about.
He was picked after Bobby Javis and Travis,
which means our front office and team kind of observed this
and thought that he wasn't worthy enough of the spot.
We take we took Bobby Javis and Travis at anyway.
McKinley Jackson's whole career through two years as a third round pick
seems to be set back due to injury more than anything else.
And now, obviously, that Bengal D tackle room or interior D line room
got a lot more crowded, especially after the Dexter Lawrence trade.
And he was the odd man out.
But I can at least lean on the fact that he was a third round pick
that had some production,
mainly in the run stopping in his rookie year, played 13 games.
And ever since then, it's been just be set by injury.
So usually injured guys stay injured.
So I understand that that's probably, you know, you throw a dart.
He gets he'll probably get hurt anyway.
But at least I know that seems to be the reason
he's no longer on the Bengals roster more than just being a massive
disappointment in terms of talent, which oftentimes these guys
available at this time are.
Yeah, I'm with you out of the realistic guys that they could add.
I think McKinley Jackson would be the best for what this team needs.
He did go on claim for the Bengals.
He's a former third round pick from Texas A&M in the twenty twenty four
NFL draft, nearly 400 snaps over his first two years.
By the way, Lance Zirline, he went the third round.
Lance Zirline had a six round grade on him.
So the Bengals did like take him way, way higher than what he was
consensually graded as. Is that a word?
Like I said, nearly 400 snaps in his first two years.
There is some power there.
That's the thing with McKinley Jackson, like if we if we want a player
that has power and it's going to be harder to move.
I think Jackson is that guy.
He does have strength in his lower half.
He gets off the ball well, like he does get off the ball.
Well, there is a little bit of knockback power there.
There's no counters and he doesn't do a lot with his hands.
But with his strong lower half, he also has strong hips
and he can like sink his in his hips and double teams like sink his hips down
so he doesn't really get moved off his spot.
So out of the guys that are ours sort of realistic, I'm with you.
He is the guy that I would like.
Zach Harrison, who was released from the Falcons.
If there isn't some sort of major health or injury or name,
whatever wildcard concern about him, I would love Zach Harrison.
He's a former third round pick from the Atlanta Falcons from he was drafted
in Ohio State a couple of years ago.
Fans, fans were calling him the Falcons fans like they're mad
that they released Zach Harrison.
They're calling him the best rotational defensive lineman
the Falcons had now they traded for Gervon Dexter just a couple of days ago.
Yeah. And he was not one of the original cuts.
Zach Harrison, he was cut today.
Yeah. So makes again, it makes you feel like there is something
more to this situation.
And Harrison had four and a half sacks in seven games last year.
So this doesn't just feel like, hey, you're not good
and didn't make the roster.
This kind of feels like there's something more to it.
But if the Giants do whatever research and whatever work that they need to do,
I would Zach Harrison will be
we'll have an impact on this team, you know, maybe be a starter.
The other guy that you did mention was Rashawn Benny University in Michigan
stands out because that just seems to be like a horrible, horrible connection.
And then also drafted in the seventh round by the Ravens.
That also is just a tie because, you know, you know,
horrible likes they they have horrible.
It was a Raven, similar mindset, similar scouting departments
and everything like that.
So I just want to make it clear because that that one when it popped,
I mean, a lot of Giants Twitter went nuts about it.
And I understand. Right.
We're looking for, like, possible up and coming bodies
in the defensive tackle room.
You don't let me know that anybody.
But despite the Michigan tie, Harbaugh had an opportunity
in that draft to take him.
And again, they opted for the upset of Bobby Jameis and Travis.
Instead, he's a seventh round pick.
And then the Ravens took him.
So, look, I get everybody's goo goo ga ga.
But the Raven Michigan thing just doesn't add up to me
because this is a guy, the Giants, while taking a defensive tackle,
had every reason to take and passed on.
So now they're going to suddenly go claim him.
And as a seventh rounder. Yeah.
We're going to think he's going to come in and that's what's going to help
this room. I don't know, man.
I probably rookie.
Now, it won't.
It probably won't help the room like he flashes quick hands at times.
He can jump gaps.
And that's how like that's how he makes plays.
That's how Rashawn Bunny makes plays.
He flashes quick hands.
He flashes a swim at the snap and he'll jump a gap.
He it's not like with power or anything like that.
Like, that's why I kind of prefer like a McKinley Jackson,
because I'm not really at this point, man.
I'm not really looking for a playmaker.
I'm just looking for a guy that can plug a hole in the run game
and have other guys around you make plays.
I don't need Rashawn Benny jumping the snap and then being in the wrong gap
and then being taken out of the play.
That's not what I need for for what it's worth.
Lance Erlein did have a fifth round grade on him.
So it's an option.
But as Shawn said, what one defense alignment was claimed.
So, yeah, clearly the there isn't a really good prospect pool out there
of defense alignment for the Giants to pick up.
And they also didn't even put in a waiver claim for a single one.
And I'm also not going to melt down at the lack of waiver claim in that spot.
They went and identified the guy they looked at was going to get caught
and traded for him and CJ Okoye.
So at least 100 percent.
And they were aggressive in adding.
Yeah. Well, and it's a seventh round pick, you know?
Right. Exactly. That was basically Josh Azuda. Yeah.
Any other thoughts on interior D-line?
Do you do you want them to add one more?
Or are you just like, dude, you made your bed.
You're now you're lying in it with this room.
I would say this. I'm not going to be anti if they do.
Like, again, I brought up McKinley Jackson.
You brought up Zach Harrison.
I'm not going to be anti if they do.
I will be like, OK, they've identified this, but I'm not banging the drum
to add another one right now because you have made your bed.
And I just I'm not convinced that anybody left out there dangling.
Like to me, they don't have that Aaron Donald that the Rams
had walking through the door, right?
Like, I know that's the most extreme version of this.
This is it now, man.
It's DJ Reader, Shelby Harris.
You pray those two stay healthy and you pray you don't get overly exposed
on the other 50 percent of the snaps.
And you just hope, by the way, when talking about the
the amount of snaps that Harrison Reader play
and the Golston's elevation into the interior of the room.
Also, I think Cave-On at times is going to come in.
Even on passing downs, probably play some interior as well.
You just hope that Denard Wilson, Harbaugh, the entire defensive line group,
like they have a plan for a rotation
that doesn't feature both Harris and Reader off the field
at the same time as much as possible.
So, yeah, you know, and the thing is there are different tackles,
but you know what I mean?
Like, you don't want to play with two weaknesses, you know?
And I think for seemingly this room looks better on a name basis
because Chauncey Golston is there is in there.
But they're putting Chauncey Golston in there for one reason
and one reason only, because an awful collection of names. Awful.
Yeah. Yeah.
And you might as well get bang for your buck out of it.
And it's really sad that we just had this entire conversation
and Darius Alexander is basically just looking at him like you exist
as a person only.
And he's going to play.
He's going to have to play, I think.
Unless unless they view him as that
developmental or bad or whatever.
And they seemingly made the move to play
Chauncey Golston more inside as soon as the Darius Alexander
training camp hype started to die down.
Yes. And and the game started.
Yeah. And the games actually started.
Yeah, there's no denying it.
So look, they have Jalen Heidsen on the practice squad.
So I can't say that this this coaching staff's
willing to write off everybody.
So maybe Darius Alexander, they still think
there's something they could coach throughout the year.
I'd rather be surprised.
But I certainly am not counting on it.
Why? Why couldn't Harbaugh convince Kalais Campbell to come here?
Again, would look completely different right now.
Yeah, come on.
You're it will be your sixth team in your 19 year, 19 year career.
We would all be laughing at the end of the year when the Giants
then had to replace three defensive linemen that retired in the same offseason.
I don't mind, but it gets you by it gets you by man.
First round, first round draft pick that we're picking in the
in the teens or the 20s this year.
Like, let's let's get right.
Let's get an interior defense alignment.
By the way, Klaas Campbell, I think, is going to break the record
for most tackles for loss ever this year.
I think he needs like seven, eight, six, something like that.
So Klaas Campbell graduated high school same year.
Wow. Let's let's age you.
Klaas Campbell's turning 40 in September 1st.
Yeah, I'm turning 40 in May.
Oh, wow.
He actually might have graduated a year ahead of me.
And you feel even better. OK.
Yeah, I do want to I do want to make that.
I had that thought today about like the interior D-line room
and Chauncey Golsan and the in the way the way that it looks
and its perception of it.
Like the only reason why I think he is truly there is because of how awful it is.
So, yeah, and I'm not he'll play more than being the fourth outside linebacker.
Yes. And I'm like, they should get the best players on the field
as much as possible.
That's not the point.
But you bet your ass that if either Darius Alexander was playing up to his
expectation level, expected level,
or if they just had another body there
that was playable, you bet your ass they would be playing over Chauncey Golsan
because Chauncey Golsan is not an interior defense lineman.
He's not. Just wonder, man, had they not traded Dexter Lawrence
did they even sign Reeder and Harris?
And this is still the same crap we're dealing with.
I guess we'll never know. And honestly, who cares?
They would have. They would have signed Shelby Harris.
They probably would have signed D.J. Reeder.
True. Yeah, true.
Outside linebackers Brian Burns, Abdul Carter, Kayvon Thibodeau.
Also, Chauncey Golsan will be in this room, too.
And Trace Ford on the practice squad.
I love it. It looks naked.
But if you really look more into it and you realize
in a pinch, worst case scenario, Jack Kelly,
you know Orville Reese is going to rush some from the linebacker position
and Chauncey Golsan's on the team.
So, yeah, totally fine with it.
Yep. Interior linebacker.
They carry five Edmonds, Reese, Kelly, McFadden and Zier Barnes.
Darius Mosau goes to the Patriots practice squad to go have fun with Shane Bowen.
Actually, I think Mosau went to their actual 53.
Whoa. Oh, that's right.
He got. Yeah. Yes. My apologies.
Shane Bowen's taking him on his 53, which is just so perfect, isn't it?
Shane Bowen for all it's worth takes the one guy who were like,
oh, God, he's slow as hell.
And Moose goes.
Shane Bowen takes a boring, bland linebacker that didn't do a lot right
as a boring, bland defensive coach that didn't do a lot right.
It's so perfect. It is so absolutely perfect.
But again, I think this room's good.
Barnes, good special teamer.
It's the deep like you could argue is the deepest room on the team.
So I'm thrilled with it.
And I'm really I love that.
Micah McFadden is also basically I'll be three.
And Jack Kelly, whenever he kind of suddenly appears on the field,
if ever needed on defense, it's kind of like, OK, let's cook.
But there's zero pressure on Jack.
Kelly is a day three pick to have to play a ton outside of special teams.
Cornerbacks, they are carrying six Paulson Adibo, Deontay Banks, Colton Hood,
Nick Jones, Greg Newsome and Drew Phillips.
Nick Jones does make it.
Art Green was waived with an injury settlement.
I believe it'll be about.
They can re-sign Art Green to either the practice squad
or the active roster within three to four weeks if they so deem
and if they so choose.
But Nick Jones makes it at least for now.
He will serve as kind of like the backup sock corner
and then also be a core special teamer in that.
None of the other guys are a major surprise.
No, and I think there is, though, another funny surprise about this,
which is and I'm going to be completely blind with you guys.
Over the last five years, the constant rules about practice squad
and pop, I know Justin and I went back and forth with the neighbor's stuff
and I had to do a little deeper digging into what changed about the pop list
and the IR.
It appears as if the IR rules have changed.
And Corey Black is a factor in this room.
You aware of this, Justin?
I knew that he was still.
No, I knew that he was still around.
This is this is the thing that like I.
These rules are so hard to realize, but I have the new rule now.
Yeah, I there are times where I am woefully
and also willfully like kind of ignorant to it because it's
because I don't I don't even want to talk about it
because I don't want to eff it up, get it wrong.
And then I said, I'm even more dumb.
OK, so I, I, I believe I have this right.
And I don't know when it changed, but it has to be in the last two years.
You used to have to make the 53 and then have all the waivers, whatever.
And then once you're on the 53, be put on IR, designate to return.
Right. Like you could be the guy doesn't return.
Apparently now you are allowed two slots on that final cut down day
where you could place a guy on IR that does not count against your 53,
but is eligible to return at some point during the year.
You're allowed two of those.
The Giants elected one of those in Corey Black.
So it is worth mentioning here that Corey Black did not make the Giants 53,
but was not waived.
He was put on IR and they are legally now allowed to do that
and have him return this year.
And I wonder because he seemingly had a good camp,
like he seemed to be rising up and then got hurt in that last preseason game.
If this is not a long term thing, if if Nick Jones, if everybody else
stays healthy, is gone for Corey Black, would Corey Black is eligible to return?
We shall see. We shall see.
If that was too nerdy for you, this is what. No, no, I love it.
It was great. It was great.
I certainly didn't know that information.
So I love it. There we go.
JT Woods made the practice squad as well in the DB room.
Forgot to mention Chandler Martin made it as a linebacker as well.
And JT Woods, I feel bad.
I don't think we mentioned him on the last show either.
I mean, boy, can he hit?
Yeah, we did. Boy, can he hit?
Yeah, he had some nice.
He had some nice pass breakups, too.
And that he did.
Safeties, they're carrying five.
We were on it the whole way.
We saw the vision.
I saw the vision with Elijah Campbell since the spring.
It was the summer and spring of Elijah Campbell.
Javon Holland, Tyler Newman, Arderis Washington,
who can also serve a slot, serve a slot corner depth.
And I don't even think he'll just serve.
I don't think he'll just serve a slot corner depth.
I think Arderis Washington will be playing a lot of snaps this year
and a good amount of it will be coming at slot corner.
Speaking of things that we don't really know what to expect on the offensive side.
The thing that I don't know what to expect about this defense
is how are they going to deploy these safeties?
I think we are going to see way more three safety sets this year.
But how will that manifest itself?
Will it manifest itself with Arderis Washington and the slot
and Drew Phillips off the field?
Or will they have three safeties on the field and Drew Phillips
on the field as a nickel corner as well?
And then who comes off the field as a result of that?
So very fascinated to see how Denard Wilson is going to really the roll
out the personnel of this defense, because we know that they're
going to roll out the personnel.
It's going to be a lot of fun up front, but also on the back end, too.
It's going to be really important to see who is out there.
Like Tyler Newman had like this resurgent summer
where he looked like Tyler Newman at Minnesota touching a football a bunch.
So are you really is that really going to be a guy
that you're going to bench here and take away snaps?
So fascinating to see how the safety room kind of pans out.
And of course, Jason Pinnock is there, too,
who was getting first team reps at certain points this summer as well.
I oddly feel good about the room, Justin, isn't this?
I do, too, man.
I feel good about the room, like the cornerback room.
I feel better than I did to be in a camp, but I still don't feel great
because I don't know what the answer truly is at number one corner.
Yeah, but the safety by all accounts,
Siobhan Holland had a great camp, our Darius Washington.
I feel pretty confident.
Like you just said, the chess piece also goes back to why I think Nick Jones
could eventually get way for black because you have Washington
to complete the slot.
But for as bad a turn
as Darius Alexander took for a good start to camp,
it feels as if the last two weeks of camp,
Newman had a rise after his bad part of camp,
like they almost like kind of flip flopped up.
And I'd be borderline stunned if Tyler Newman's not starting week one
and card subject to changes.
It always is with Tyler Newman on a week to week basis.
But I just have this inkling the way the last two weeks of camp went,
that he kind of had all the buttons pushed the right way
and something started to go off with Denard Wilson's defense
and Washington kind of being there is that safety.
And also like, man, I think about how much Jason Pinnock
box significant snaps for the 49ers last year.
We've seen him play here in New York.
That guy is your fourth safety.
You could do a thousand times worse.
And then Elijah Campbell fits that special team's role.
So I don't know, man.
I look at the safety group and think there's got to be half the league
with a worse safety group than us, which feels kind of refreshing.
Yeah. Elijah Campbell is going to be a core special teamer in that, too.
I agree. I think this is I don't want to call it one of the strongest
because a newbie can fizzle out.
So that's why I don't want to say that either.
But I personally can Holland.
So can Holland, man.
Like Holland has not.
But but I think Holland's worst is still a playable safety, too.
Yeah. You know, like Holland is 26 years old.
Yeah. And it's crazy that, you know, Holland's worst is not Newman's worst.
You almost talk about him like, oh, my God, his best play is behind him
in 2022 and 2023.
The dude's still only just 26 years old.
Should be entering the prime of his career, the best playing days of his career.
And it's just so and it's so tough to evaluate any freaking safety
when they had Shane Bowen last year.
Yep. Exactly. Exactly.
So I I would sneakily suspect Holland's there.
And I know we're going to get the specials in a second.
Just an idea. I'm thinking out loud.
Did we come up with a fanatics five over the weekend?
We did not. I'm staring at Holland.
I'm staring at Newman.
I'm staring at other guys.
I think we throw this out to the listeners.
The five guys whose ceiling could change the trajectory of the Giants this year.
Yeah. Think about it.
If Newman or Holland are awesome, it changes the safety room.
I'll give you another guy.
Malachi Fields, if he's like this sick rookie,
changes everything in that wide receiver room.
Deontay Banks.
Deontay Banks. Great one.
Absolutely. Yeah.
You know, whatever. Insert
Francis Moenoa, if he's the best offensive lineman in the draft.
Yeah. If he just hits right away at guard.
Yeah. Hits right away. Right.
Of course, you know, insert name on defensive tackle list here.
But you know what I mean?
Yeah. We could have some fun with that.
Greg Knoser. All right. Contract here. All right.
We just we just got we came up with a five.
We call that live production on the air, Justin.
I often do that on WFN with Evan.
So specials, Dominic Zavada, Jordan Stout, Ben Mann.
Dominic Zavada won the job.
John Harbaugh announced that after the Jets preseason game that very night
to you, DFA is making it, earning it.
You talked about Ben Mann looking really good last week.
So in Jordan's do that punt, man.
By the way, thank thank you to Jordan Stout, because I have a series on jam
football, a short series that I've done the last three years
that I call a game within a game.
I published my first game within a game episode, you know, my first short.
And thanks to Jordan Stout and also, oh, God, what's this guy?
He's the puncher from South to go to state on back to back days.
They had booming like 70 yard punts.
So I made a short about it.
And Jordan Stout has given me over 100,000 views on YouTube for YouTube short.
So thank you very much, Jordan Stout.
The game within the game series is off to a great start this year.
Short and stout, as they like to say, that is true.
Sean, any any thoughts on on specials?
I'll give you one thought.
I'm going to whisper it.
So nobody in the NFL hears me.
Ben Soles didn't get claimed by anybody.
He should be on our practice squad to protect against Nevada stinking.
Oh, yeah, we have four practice squad spots left.
Ben Soles was told by this coach that he's an NFL kicker.
We still don't know if Dominic Savada can implode at any point.
He had a rough year at Michigan last year.
It would feel really nice if we go through three weeks of Savada
and he's shanking a couple going, you know what, Soles is still around.
He's on our practice squad.
He can at least make him inside 50.
Oh, that's a great, great point.
I want that.
I sat there all day going, Soles didn't get claimed by anybody
and the Jets claimed Group A from the Colts.
Forgot how you say his name.
But yeah, like, oh, I want I want that to happen now.
Yeah. Ben Soles should get one of those four practice squad spots.
He absolutely should. Right now.
I don't want Savada to ever have to give up the kicking job,
but I think you have to be smart and protecting against the fact
that he is, in fact, a rookie kicker.
Yeah, you don't want to.
I don't think you.
Not that Harbaugh, this wasn't Harbaugh's problem, but,
you know, just as a fan who's experienced this, like, you know,
Giants finding ways to go through kickers and not be ready on game days
for these types of situations, like be be ready for it if it happens.
You know? Absolutely.
Good read.
And you know what?
By the time some of you are listening to this,
we may already have Ben Soles on the practice squad.
So and it's because they heard Sean.
Exactly. They heard me.
I yelled all the way to East Rutherford.
They knew what to do.
Shawnee Special Teams, they're calling me now.
All right.
So the the two guys that the Giants cut that obviously
that were most attached to Evan Neal and Jalen Hyatt, they're
they're well, Jalen Hyatt's not gone.
Yeah, one's gone. One's here.
But it's so, dude, so crazy.
Evan Neal, like people talked about.
I remember I always remember this on draft night.
Chris Long was doing late.
I don't know if he still does NFL stuff or like film stuff.
But I remember Chris Long put out like an Evan, some Evan Neal thoughts
and like an Evan Neal, like short clip of him, like doing a voiceover of film.
And he was talking about Evan Neal's balance.
I'd be like, this guy's good.
Everybody loves him.
But watch this guy's balance.
And that has been the thing that has defined his NFL career.
And and what I hate about the pre-draft process
is that you don't really get to know the type of player,
the type of person and the type of worker that they are.
I think Evan Neal got here in this building and for four years
did not take care of his body, did not take care of himself.
Unfortunately, got hurt and suffered injuries.
You can make an argument that he suffered those injuries
because he wasn't in the best of shape, but also he would get injured
and he would get hurt and then not take care of himself,
trying to get back healthy to begin with.
So also a good amount of it is on him as well.
Sean, it absolutely is.
And I've been heard after the burger flipping comment
that he was going to now take a job at five guys.
But out of respect for Jaden Daniels, he's waiting for four guys to call him.
That's good. Thank you. I workshop. That's good.
I mean, I was joking, but also kind of not really.
When I tweeted at you this morning.
Do you have a love letter for both of them?
Oh, Justin, my love letter for Evan Neal would simply be this.
Oh, Evan Neal, how badly we didn't want Charlie Cross.
So we didn't cross you off our list.
Instead, we work.
We welcomed you in even hiring an agent like our list.
Good HBO throwback show.
Evan Neal, you weren't real.
In fact, you weren't even a steal.
Evan Neal, you should be wearing Mariner teal
because football isn't your game.
And my poetry about you has become oh, so lame.
Evan Neal, goodbye forever.
Evan Neal, this was your love letter.
You like it? It was awesome.
I didn't read it either.
Isn't that good? I worked on it on the train.
I don't have one for Jalen Hyatt because he's back because he's still here.
Yeah, exactly.
Which I thought I thought like I'm like, oh, I don't know.
He's not coming back.
He hasn't practiced in four weeks and he's practicing right away.
What a job. Practicing right away.
What a gimmick for Jalen Hyatt to Odell.
I'm not really good at like this reflecting thing.
Remember when we thought
that we were going to have two bookend tackles for the next 10 years?
Yep. It turns out we do.
Who who's the who's the number one for the next 10 years?
Well, not the 10 years.
For the next we want we want we want both.
We want both of them inside.
J.C. Davis.
No, we know J.C. Davis is a guard.
Are we sure now?
Or yes, I am sure.
And there are other
other very smart people that want Marcus Bowe to go to guard.
And maybe maybe J.C.
Davis is so good he pushes Andrew Thomas to the right side.
Don't don't even answer that.
That was Andrew Thomas had a bad rookie year.
Evan Neal will be fine.
Yeah, I know. Yeah, exactly.
That sounds like the Giants in 07 started 0-2 will be fine.
Let's not go through my favorite 0-2.
Well, we probably will.
But let's not go through my favorite 0-2 tradition.
And if we do and if we do, I'm so excited to say, did you know?
Yes, I know.
2007 Giants also started 0-2.
Yes, I know.
All right. That's a show.
We had some fun.
Have fun with your 53 man roster.
Yeah, we get together.
Have a few laughs.
That's right.
We go through. All right.
We're going to be back on Friday,
hopefully with an interview with somebody that we don't working on things.
I'm working on some things.
Sean Moresh is working on things.
And when Sean Moresh works on stuff, sometimes you get going.
No, they get total dichotomy, total dichotomy.
All right. We'll see you on Friday.
Let's go, Giants.
It starts today.
Let's go, Giants! We, we, we!
