We are tracking three wildfires burning in the Cascade Mountains, north of Cachise and
Cle Elum Lakes.
The King Fire has burned more than 2,600 acres, 0% contained.
The Goat Fire has burned more than 700 acres, also not contained.
The largest of the three is called the Three Queens Fire.
It scorched more than 9,000 acres and is 5% contained.
Crews say they are hoping cooler and wetter conditions will help fight those flames.
Those conditions are expected to start changing by tomorrow.
Over in Okanogan County, take a look at this.
Let's see here.
Okay, okay.
So what you're seeing here is a dust devil rising through the sky.
It kind of looks like smoke, right?
It did look a little like smoke.
Yeah, it's a dust devil.
This video is sent in by Enrique on Facebook, and he says that it happened right outside
a burned area from the Sin Lajican Fire.
He's estimating it's about 250 feet tall, and it's burning on one of the faces of one
of the mountains in the area.
Strong winds often pick up loose debris on the sides of the mountains, and the Sin Lajican
Fire is more than 166,000 acres in size.
Right now, it's at 39% containment and is the second largest wildfire of the season
in Washington, only behind the little giant fire out of Chelan County.
Governor Bob Ferguson just extended his wildfire emergency proclamation to five more counties
in our state.
The governor says he added Benton, Columbia, Grant, Kittitas and Whitman counties to the
proclamation on Monday.
That will help people in those areas get assistance.
Governor Ferguson also says FEMA ended the federal emergency period for eastern Washington
wildfires on Monday.
That means our state's request for a federal disaster declaration is due September 29th.
The declaration would open up federal assistance to thousands of wildfire victims and also
for state and local governments repair damage and infrastructure.
Governor Ferguson releasing a statement saying, quote, wildfires have destroyed Washingtonians
homes across the board in a geographic area.
We remain laser focused on assisting Washingtonians who have lost so much.
Last month, the governor sent a letter to President Donald Trump to come visit Washington
for a firsthand look at wildfire damage.
No word on if the president has responded so far.
All right, just about 10 minutes past five.
Let's check in with Brian right now because it is a weather alert day here on this Wednesday.
Yeah, they're right.
Yeah.
And the reason for that is because we're going to be seeing kind of our first full storm
of the season.
This is not going to be a strong storm for us, but it is going to put some of our leaves
and our trees to the test coming up Lake Union camera right now at fifty nine degrees
and it's dark outside still.
We're watching the rain starting to march its way into the picture here.
You can see over the Olympic Peninsula seeing a few light showers, seeing some light showers
over the mountains as well and out towards central Washington.
This is welcome for central Washington right now, not accompanied by any lightning.
Maybe we did get a couple lightning strikes down in the southern part of our state.
So I stand corrected.
Here's a look at our current temperatures right now.
We're into the upper 50s and here is a look at your wind gusts currently not too bad out
along the coast.
You have pretty quiet morning so far.
Gusty spot has actually been Windby Island gusting to around thirty two miles an hour
so far.
All right.
So here's your future cast.
And what I'm expecting is for the wind to pick up and the rain to develop here as we
get into the afternoon.
It's going to be right around when the kids get off of school today.
So around two o'clock to about five o'clock or so, we're going to see a band of heavier
rainfall move its way through the picture.
And then that will be followed by on and off showers.
So if you get soccer practices, things like that this evening might be a little soppy
for that.
Highs today will top out cooler into the mid to upper 60s.
For most of us, we'll have increasing rain showers and it will be breezy and just overall
feeling cooler.
Moving ahead, things calm down over the next couple of days back into the 60s.
And then for your Labor Day weekend actually looks really nice.
Partly cloudy skies Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Let's head on over to Adam.
He's got a check on traffic.
