The focus is on strategic skin preparation, product customization, and specific application techniques to achieve a luminous, long-wearing finish.
Hi everyone, welcome back to my channel and welcome to a new series that I want to be doing
monthly on my channel and I want to base these going forward on your requests. So you could
submit them down below, you'll know what I'm getting to in just a second. Doing a monthly
series, it's all going to be about quick tips that are uncut. So one specific tip, it could be
anything geared towards eyes, face, lips, skin prep, you name it. Whatever quick tip you want me to
focus on, please drop them in the comments below and I'll make this a series that we do every
single month. The first one I want to do on my channel, I want to focus this quick tip on how
to make a matte, full coverage, leaning foundation work if you have dry skin. So very specific, right,
and I actually get this question a ton. I get tons, well I get questions all the time about,
you know, what foundation formulas are going to work for which skin type, but I get a lot,
an overwhelming amount of questions about dry skin friendly formulas or if this or that A, B,
and C formula will work for dry skin. So I thought this would be a really good opportunity because
there are so many brand spanking new matte medium to full coverage foundations that have hit the
market and I've just been getting so many questions. So I wanted to show you some quick, digestible,
I promise you, easy tips to utilize if you have dry skin or if you have and or dry mature skin,
dry young skin. If you have dry skin and let's say you want a full coverage foundation and you want
more of a matte finish or just putting this out there, let's say you picked it up on accident,
you don't, you're not able to return it for a reason, you don't want to return it, you want
to make it work for you and you want to make sure you're not wasting your money and you have dry
skin. So if you've ever found yourself buying the wrong formula foundation for your skin type,
save this video. It's going to help make any situation like that specific one work for you.
So where was I? Okay. Let me talk about the two foundations I'm going to be featuring. I'll be
doing one on each side. These are brand new. They are very noteworthy. They're very beautiful and I
love both to be quite honest, but they are very different in my opinion. But what they have in
common is they are a medium to full coverage and they both have a super duper matte finish. Okay.
So you might be asking yourself, well, why would I buy a matte full coverage foundation if I have
dry skin? There are so many luminous, glowy, serum-based, what else would you call it? Like
serum-based, glowy, luminous, dewy foundations on the market and those are typically marketed
for dry skin types. So my point in bringing this up is because with those foundation formulas,
they may be marketed towards you, but they may not suit your foundation needs, right? So if you have
dry skin, but maybe you want more coverage than those serum, dewy, luminous, glowy foundations
have to offer. And on top of it, you want the longevity that formulas like this are going to
provide you because these are going to provide you more longevity, point blank, period. Then,
and there's nothing wrong with this type of formula. This is a stunning formula, but they're
going to offer more full coverage and more longevity than like, let's just say a Skintint
or the MPH. I'm just holding these up as an example, by the way. Armani Luminous Silk,
all those, right? Like the new one, not the old one. So anyway, now that we've gotten that kind
of out of the way, let me run through the quick tips because I've already kept you probably way
too long. So quick tip number one, skin prep is going to be absolutely paramount to your dry skin
excepting a more matte full coverage foundation. Okay. So one simple way to prep your skin,
obviously start with clean skin. My skin has nothing on it right now, and this is just purely
for dry skin type. So oily skin, I promise you, you're going to have your day. Leave your requests
for an uncut quick tip in the comments below and I will save them and I will get to them,
I promise. But this is for my dry skin people out there. So dry skin, you're going to want,
and this is assuming you're very dry. Okay. So truly dry skin, not dry sometimes, not just dry
in certain areas. Like you have for sure, 100% dry skin. If you cocktail and you layer your milky
toners and or your essences, my gosh, you are already so ahead of the game. I'm going to take
my rings off right now because I forgot that I'm doing skincare on camera. Okay. So the number one
thing you want to think about is thinnest to thickest. Okay. Thinnest is going to be the Inua.
So you see that texture? That's nice and thin. Thickest would be the Half and Half from Prequel,
just for an example. That's much thicker. I'll show you now on my skin as well.
So I'm actually going to prep both sides of my face, my entire face with the Inua.
And then we'll get to another alternative way to prep your skin or just another idea to prep
your skin for one side. That way I can kind of double up on the tips for this video. This is
uncut. So you're going to see exactly how long it takes to dry these down, what they look like
as they hit my skin. I'm obviously going to avoid my eye makeup because my eye makeup is done for
the rest of the day. And I'm going to avoid my brows because my brows are definitely done.
And I'm actually having a very good brow day, which is also amazing. And I'm also going to
avoid my neck in this video. But if you're doing this at home, highly encourage you bring it all
down your neck. The reason why I'm avoiding my neck is because I've already placed all my skincare
for the morning, including my sunscreen on my neck. So just know for demonstrative purposes,
I'm skipping it, but I would want you to bring everything down your neck. And bonus, if you got
something left over, your hands will love it. Your hands will drink it up, I promise you.
So that is layer number one, the thinnest layer. You'd want to follow it up with layer number two.
Layer number two is going to be the Prequel Half and Half Milky Toner. This is a hybrid between
this product and an actual serum product, like a hyaluronic acid serum. Let me show you the texture.
So much thicker. You can see it's not running down my hand fast. It's much, much thicker. You're
going to follow through with this right away. And you'll notice I always, always bring everything
all the way up under my eyes, like milky toners, essences, hydrating toners, whatever you call it.
I don't care what you call it. They're all the same thing as long as it's not like an active
or it's got like a, it's not a liquid exfoliator. You want to always bring these under your eyes.
Your under eyes need this hydration more than anywhere else. I'm a firm believer in this. So
this will always change your skin, both your cheek, your forehead, your entire face, but also
it will dramatically change your under eyes and the way they accept under eye concealer. So don't
leave them out, basically. Whatever's left over would go in theory down your neck, top of the
hands. Then we move on. Last thing you want to do if you have truly dry skin, I like to think of
focusing on three things, right? Two layers of hydration or two layers of milky toner hydration.
My fingers are going crazy just now. So two layers of hydration and or milky toner. Then you're going
to lock it in with that third layer. The third layer is going to be your moisturizer and sun
protection. So if you're out and about in the daytime, unless you're doing your makeup at night
and you're strictly not, you know, you're not doing your makeup for daytime use, then you could
skip this and just go for like a moisturizer. A moisturizer without SPF that I love is the
Ruby Beauty Signature Skin Dream Barrier Cream. This is amazing, especially for like soothing
your skin, irritated skin, deeply parched skin. This would be a great sealant on top of those
two milky toners if it was nighttime or if you just weren't concerned about sunscreen. If you're
wanting to wear sunscreen that's also very moisturizing, the Kiehl's Better Screen UV Serum
Sunscreen. This is SPF 50. This is one of my absolute favorites for dry skin. For me, I can
use it in the winter when my skin is just a little bit more parched in general, but you'll see this
is going to make me quite glowy. Now I'm only going to do, I'm going to do a little bit of this and
actually, you know what I'll do? I'll do this on my entire face because one side, one foundation
I'm going to be mixing, the other I'm not. Let's get this all over. So a lot of the reasoning behind
making a matte full coverage foundation work, a lot of the techniques, I should say, to make a
matte full coverage work for dry skin, it's going to be heavily, heavily reliant on your skin prep.
And there's one, well, there's actually two additional tips for application and for finishing
that don't really pertain to skin prep, but majority of the technique to make this kind of
product work for your dry skin, it's going to be solely reliant on your skin prep. So if you're,
if you're not prepping your skin accordingly, you're not going to be able to make any matte
foundation work. You're not going to be able to make many foundations in general look that great
on your skin. And you're probably also not going to like the feeling of these foundations on your
skin. So once you have tackled appropriately your skin prep, you've done your hydration, you've done
your extra layer of creamy hydration, you've locked it in with moisturizer and sun protection.
Now you could go in to the next step. Okay. So for demonstrative purposes, I'm going to show you
NARS. This is the Natural Matte Longwear Foundation. I have the shade Lennay. I'll
use the NARS on this side and I'll use the, I was going to say Ruby. I always get them mixed up.
Rare Beauty. This is the, I forgot the entire name. It's a very long one, but something
something soft matte foundation. I'll have a link below of course. And on YouTube shops,
you can shop it both ways, either down in the description or as you're actually watching this
video. So two ways to do it. And two ways to look up the exact name, because I couldn't tell you
what it actually is. Okay. Starting with the NARS, we're going to give this a good shake.
And then one way I love to make something like this work, and this is a foolproof way of making
any longwear matte foundation work, whether it's drugstore, high-end, you name it. This will always
be the way to get it going and to make it look juicy and glowy on your deeply dehydrated or,
and or dry skin. So you're gonna mix one pump with one pump of this. So one pump first of NARS
on the top of your hand. Actually I did two because I forget how little these squirts come out. So two
to be exact for this formula. And then we're going to immediately cocktail it and mix equal parts of
the L'Oreal True Match Lumique Lotion. This is a glow enhancer. This is something you could wear
underneath your makeup. You can mix it into your foundation. You could put it on top if you're
really gentle about it. But what this does, so that would be equal parts. Okay. What this does
is it's going to cut the coverage, cut the dry feeling on your dry skin, and it's going to give
it this built-in luminosity. So if you want like extra luminosity, extra glow to your dry skin,
and you want to use again that matte full coverage foundation because of the longevity,
you know, let's say you have dry skin and you work in the medical industry. Let's say you work
all night. Let's say you're one of my nurses out there that watches me. Shout out to you guys.
This is a great way to get the longevity you want with still great coverage, but it's going to cut
it and give it more glow and more comfort. So we're going to take a soft, more diffusing brush.
I've been using this brush actually for this technique. So this has a mixture of
these two products exactly on it from previous uses. So you wouldn't really necessarily need
to go in with more of a dense brush. Like you can absolutely use my N17, but I really prefer
using this method and these two products together with a diffusing brush like the N20. But don't
let that limit you. You can use, you can use whatever brush you have, but a fluffier brush
in general is going to be a better, softer application. If you have really dry skin,
let's take the brush. You don't need to be super precise. You're just going to kind of mix the two
together like that. Okay. So we still have half of it left over. I realized I pumped out way too
much because we're only doing half my face. And, um, I don't remember what side I said. Yeah. I
said wherever you're on the side. Okay. So we're still doing the right thing. So now you have
more built-in glow, more of a luminous look to your skin. It's not going to feel as dry because
you're cutting the formula in half, right? So you're still going to have longevity. It's still
going to look beautiful. You could still build up the coverage. You'll still get really good coverage,
but you're going to have more of a comfortable feeling to your skin. And it's just a great way
to customize your foundation. So if you are not wanting to go out and buy a specific glowy
foundation that's marketed towards your dry skin, you want to make maybe more of a matte
full coverage work for whatever reason, like I mentioned earlier, this is a really great
technique to utilize and to not forget about basically. So I'm doing a combination of
tapping it on, just trying to do one side and then buffing it out. You want to tap it on the areas
you want the most coverage, wherever that is going to be for you. It's going to be different for
everyone. For me, I need the most right here. So just tapping it on, even though this is a fluffy
brush, you could still use it in a tapping motion and you could still gain more coverage with this
brush, even though it is so soft. So by switching the application from this, where it's really
natural and really diffused to this, you're relying on the longer part of the bristles
to push and layer and to build up more coverage on your skin. I highly encourage you to try this out.
Even for just any skin type, for summertime, if you want to not have to go out and buy a skin
tint, not have to go out and buy a more lightweight foundation, there's just so many ways to alter the
foundations that you already have in your collection. So you don't have to go out and buy
every new one that comes out on the planet. You can customize it and tweak it. Like I like to say,
you could Bob Ross it up. So you're going to Bob Ross it up with your foundation and make it work
for your skin. So I've just been yakking, but I'm clearly more than done blending this on my skin
and the look, not only the feeling, the feeling I feel is like I feel so incredibly hydrated and
dewy because I am obviously very oily, like I've mentioned many times, but for you at home,
if you were dry, you're going to feel so fresh, so hydrated, and you're not going to have that
tight feeling, right? If your skin ever feels tight, you don't have enough hydration and,
or you're using too much powder, you're using a foundation that's not working for you, and this
is the way to make it work. So this is one incredibly foolproof way of wearing your foundation.
So the other way of doing or applying a full coverage matte foundation, I'm going to put this
cap on and let me show you just a simple way to make a product like this one from Rare Beauty
sit even more glow on your skin, right? So you're already starting out with glow. You're
already off to the races. You're already 20 steps ahead of the game in terms of loving a
matte foundation on your dry skin. Another way to make sure that you love the finish of it and that
it stays glowy throughout the day and it stays really beautiful and not overly dry on your skin.
So you're going to take the Rare Beauty foundation or whatever foundation, but an example, I'm going
to take one pump. This is shade 15. This has a slightly thicker texture to me. I always describe
it as feeling slightly more moussey. I've seen some comments saying that they don't agree with
that. I mean, either way, I think it has like a soft matte kind of moussey texture to it,
slightly thicker than like the NARS in texture. But either way, that's the texture of it right
here. Now, what you want to do is I'm going to actually skip back to the N17. I'm going to dip
in. Now, two things I want to point out. You could either layer some hydrating sprays throughout the
application of this kind of product or the NARS, whichever one, or you could just for safe measure,
let's say you have let your skincare really, really penetrate your skin and you're noticing
it feels a little too dry to the touch. You don't want to start out with overly dry skin.
If you have dry skin and you're putting on top of that dry skin, more of a matte foundation.
So let's just say in theory, and for demonstrative purposes, I'm going to actually blot this side down
just to give you a better example. So in theory, let's say your skin is so dry that it drank up
the milky toner. It drank up that second layer of essence milky toner and it drank up and it
absorbed your moisturizing sunscreen or your moisturizer. And now you're left with more of
a satin finish that's not overly juicy. Let's say that's the scenario. Then a great opportunity
to make sure that your foundation doesn't feel dry when it hits your skin is to use something
like this, right? This is a classic formula. This is, to me, this is like the best hydrating
essence spray. It's the d'Alba First Spray Serum. I know you're seeing this all over the internet.
I know it's like, it's blowing up so much with lots of sponsorships and stuff, but for a good
reason. This is an incredible product that definitely deserves its flowers and its time.
So you'd want to shake this up. It's a bi-phase product, meaning you're going to need to mix both
worlds together before you spray it. So you would do something like this and you'd get your skin
reactivated basically, like re-hydrated, re-juiced up and all that good stuff. And you'd bring the
dew back to it immediately. And I mean immediately, don't let it dry down. Go in with said
matte medium to full coverage foundation. And this is going to glide onto your skin.
It's going to melt in very buttery. And the fact that it's going on top of
juicy hydrated skin, it's just going to give it way more of a glow. And again, way more comfort
on your dry skin. So it's going to feel really light, really hydrating, really moisturizing.
It's 100% I can guarantee that it's not going to feel like a dry matte full coverage foundation.
And it's up to you and your specific skin needs and how dry you are. You know more than I do
what your skin type is like and how dry your skin actually is. So if it's really,
really drinking this up, if things are drying down really, really quickly,
before you're even done blending out your foundation, don't be afraid to go back in
and do another round. Even if it's just like two sprays, even if it's just like a quick spray,
you could keep this kind of product in your purse to rehydrate your skin throughout the day.
This is like virtually limitless how many times you can use it if you have dry dehydrated skin.
So going immediately back in, I'm going to blend out the rest of the edges of the Rare Beauty.
And these are really just quick tips. If there's anything that I'm leaving out,
if there's anything you've heard me talk about before, this is just like a more of a quick
rundown of simple ways and simple techniques that you can utilize in your routine that doesn't take
a ton of time to make a product like this work for your dry skin. All right. Now let's just say
in theory, the rest of my makeup is done. I'm not going to do the rest of my makeup on camera
because this is all about the quick tips and I'm going to stick to that. But let's say in theory,
the makeup is done. We got our bronzer, we got our concealer, we got our blush,
we got all those things happening. And let's just say in theory, the makeup is complete right now.
Okay. So let's try to imagine that. So now you'd want to use a setting spray,
but before you go out and you grab something that we see everyone use, including myself,
because I love this product, before you go out and grab what you're seeing online,
which is like, for example, the One Size Until Dawn Mattifying Setting Spray,
keyword being mattifying. Before you grab something like this, I want to throw out
some options that are going to be best suited for your dry skin. A couple options that work
fantastic. Okay. One would be the other, the sister to the One Size Until Dawn. It'd be
the One Size Powder Melt Glass Setting Spray. Something like this quite literally
melts the layers of powder on your skin into your skin, takes away that powdery finish,
and it gives you a juicy, juicy glow. So this is one incredible option for dry skin.
I don't recommend this for oily skin. Like I mentioned at the beginning of this video,
this is going to be, this has nothing to do with oily skin, which is my skin type.
This has everything to do with dry skin and dry skin types. This is your girl,
like this is the one to get for you. So this is one great option. And then two other mentions
that I want to call out that to me, I think increase the wear time more so than this one
does. This one does, it is technically speaking a setting spray, which it will set your makeup.
But I find this one just gives added glow and softens the powdery look of makeup. Whereas
these two next ones are hydrating, but they also increase the longevity of your makeup.
So I want to call these out as well. So different category, different needs. So
tried and true, my most used, my most favorite. I have predominantly dry skin clients that I work
with to this day. I don't think I have really hardly anybody that sits in my chair that has
oily skin, unless they're like a one-off model that I'm working with. But all my regulars that
I do see have dry skin. This is our favorite one. And I say it's our favorite one because
all my dry skin clients love this setting spray and it feels so good and so hydrating, but I know
it's also pulling double duty and it is increasing the wear time, the longevity of the makeup that
I'm putting on them. So Sure Up Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray, the original one,
don't get the mattifying one, that's for oily skin. This one's amazing. And then I got to tell you,
I sat on this product for so many months before I finally pulled it out and used it. And this is
incredible. This is so good. I got to call this out and I will talk about it more in another video
to come, I'm sure. But just know if you've never heard me talk about it, it's because I forgot
about it. But this is the Laura Mercier Translucent Hydrating Setting Spray Ultra Blur. This is
fantastic if you have dry skin and you want a setting spray that increases the wear time,
like I just mentioned, but it doesn't feel dry. Bonus is the sprayer on this. I'm going to show
you an example really quick. So this is my OG, my favorite, Charlotte. This is the sprayer.
Okay. A little bit more, just wet all my makeup, a little bit more intense,
slightly more on the aggressive side, right? This one, you're going to be shocked. Okay.
So shake it up, shake up all your formulas. This one has the soft touch. Look at that.
Come on. Not aggressive. It's a fine, lovely hydrating mist. So this would be one really
great option to set your makeup into place. Just for you-know-what giggles, I'm just going to show
you one quick thing, okay? Just want to show you one quick thing. For dry skin, I want to just
touch on this. For dry skin types, you still want to use a teeny bit of powder, depending.
And I would only, if you're going to use a teeny bit of powder, I would only focus that teeny bit
of powder in the high traffic areas of your face, the T-zone, right? So anywhere around your nose,
anywhere where makeup tends to break down and not look as perfect throughout the day.
You'd use that powder in those areas and a thin, thin, thin amount, okay? One of my favorite
powders that I recommend for all skin types, not just oily, but for dry or dry mature is the Makeup
by Mario. I'll have this one linked as well. That one's fantastic if you want fragrance-free,
lightweight, breathable, doesn't look Crypt Keeper-like on your skin. It's just an amazing
loose powder to set your makeup. So once you've done all the makeup, you're finished, once your
eyes, everything is done, then you want to set your makeup, lock it into place. Last tip,
tilt your hand up, let it fall onto your skin, don't spray up, and it's up to you how much
you want to apply. Again, if you feel like you missed any spots, go back in there, but you want
to properly, thoroughly coat your entire face. So you want to make sure you're able to look in the
mirror and see that your skin is actually wet. If your skin looks wet, then you did the right thing
and you properly set your makeup. Let me dry this down for camera purposes really quick.
Okay, makeup is set. This should be all the quick tips you need to make any matte full
coverage foundation work for your dry skin specifically. One more bonus tip I want to
throw out there just in case you need it. Once again, don't be afraid to keep something like
this on hand or handy or near your purse or just on your vanity. And if you ever feel a little tight,
a little dry throughout the day, just give your skin a little refresh and you'll be
absolutely golden. I really hope this quick tip video helped you out. If it did, comment below,
let me know what part of it worked for you or what part was maybe eye-opening or what part
was maybe a good refresher. If you heard me talk about these tips a dozen times before,
which I wouldn't be surprised, let me know if it's a good refresher and a good reminder of how
to make these kinds of products work for your specific skin type. Now, please request below
what quick tip you want to see from me next. I'll make sure I film that and get it popped up on my
channel. Thank you so much for watching. I hope this helps my dry skin people out
and I'll see you in the next one. Bye, you guys.
