Fitness creators Jujimufu and Tom learn arm wrestling techniques, safety rules, and leverage strategies from legendary arm wrestler Jeff Dabe, known for his exceptionally large hands and forearms. After receiving hands-on coaching on proper grip, body positioning, and injury prevention, they test their newly acquired skills by competing in an amateur arm wrestling tournament.
Two beginners and a group of enthusiasts receive professional arm wrestling coaching from experts like Alex Delatorre and veteran Jeff. The training emphasizes safety, proper body mechanics, and grip techniques to prepare them for an amateur tournament, highlighting that success depends more on technical leverage and functional strength than raw arm power.
Uh, oh my god, I don't know what to do.
Heroes are definitely the biggest.
Oh god.
Boom.
I'm about to get my dick kicked in. Go!
That's it, Ronnie.
Hey. Hey.
Arm Wrestling League.
We're gonna get our asses kicked
by a guy with enormous hands,
forearms, and
everyone else. Let's give ourselves a little bit of
a fighting chance, though. This is Alex Delatorre.
Hey, my man. How are you? And you're gonna
train us? Oh yeah. You're gonna help us not
tear our biceps.
Yes. Okay. So what's the first basic
you want to do? Uh, well,
you want to sit up to the table? Yeah. I can show you some basics there.
We haven't learned anything yet.
How do you feel confidence-wise about entering this tournament?
I feel with a
little bit of coaching, I won't
tear a bicep. Yes. And with
chalk, I won't slip and
lose my grip. It's an amateur
tournament, but you're in the 235
division. 206
to 232. Oh, you're in a
good spot. I am in a good spot. And
I'm gonna join as well, so I need a little
tutelage here. I'm gonna be
going straight for Jeff.
He's just gonna destroy me
and I'm gonna quit arm wrestling. These are risers?
Yeah. These are risers.
Their waist is not
able to go above the table, which
mine is. And if they're down
here, that's what we use the risers for. They gain
a little bit more leverage when they're up on the table.
And we've already noticed, you guys
use chalk. Yes, we do. Thank God.
I know you guys are a fan of chalk. We are huge
fans of chalk. Eating, consuming.
I've never done this on a table
like this. The pads, as you can see,
I changed everything around.
Your pad is gonna be changed as
well. The reason being,
when I slide you across
the table, I'm gonna pin you here.
Okay? So I'm gonna teach you some basics.
Your right foot is forward.
Your right hand is
forward as well. Yeah, you have to take off your
holster, you son of a bitch. So, right up against
the table. Alright. Notice how my shoulders
are. They're up.
My neck is up. My head is up. Everything's
up. Even something else
is up. Oh, that was a good joke. So, square.
Square to the table. Careful, okay? Yeah.
Just like so.
Ring finger and the pinky. Really?
Those are the most important fingers that you
need to have in arm wrestling. Okay.
There are actually some people that work
out so much that
they can't even extend their fingers.
A neutral grip. Okay.
This is a higher grip. Notice how I'm capping
my thumb, but I still need to...
On his knuckle? Right. No, no.
His knuckle has to be showing.
Yep.
Right up against the table. And you want to be as
vertical as possible. Forearm. Yeah.
Bicep. Yeah.
Shoulder. Cheek.
Shoulders. Cheeks. Bicep.
Shoulder. Cheek. Exactly like that.
Good. Notice how you left your hand
away from your shoulder.
You don't want to do that.
You want to keep it inside of your shoulder. Okay.
Is that for injury prevention? That's for injury prevention.
And strength training.
So it's a lot of this and this hand over here? Right.
So, this, yeah, exactly.
What do you think is the most
vulnerable position you could be
in in arm wrestling? A way
to get injured the easiest that you see from
beginner wrestlers? When people start
turning. They start turning?
When people start doing this, this is unnatural.
First of all, arm wrestling is unnatural.
So, yeah.
So you want to keep a square chest?
Yeah. You always want to be looking at your hand.
You always want to be square to the table.
So, that was just all side pressure.
Now you need to move your elbow.
So, do that again. Go forearm.
Bicep. Shoulder. Cheek.
Bill Collins, he runs all this.
No, keep on doing it, man. You're looking good.
Thank you for letting us do this on your platform.
Keep on, Alex. That was perfect, man.
Whenever we look at it, there's three
main spots where you can
really injure yourself. And like Alex said,
if you always
look at your hand, you will never get
in a bad position. Look at your hand
because what happens when people get
in a bad position, they start to look away
from their hand and it turns in.
I've seen, I've been around
27 spiral breaks across the bicep.
So, this is one of them.
Right here, turning away from the body.
Puts a lot of torque pressure on your bicep.
The other one, a guy gets real deep into a hook
and he'll start pushing down with
his shoulder. You're showing him from this way.
Putting a lot of pressure. When the
hand is flipped like this, it takes a lot of
pressure off that humerus.
So, if your elbow is buried, you're
okay, but if somebody
pushes up like this and leaves his
elbow off the pocket, it'll do the same thing.
Your technique, coming down to
the table, that was beautiful because
That's a natural movement. You're natural at it.
No, I'm not saying it's a natural movement.
Would you say he's natural? He's a natural?
He's natural. He's a natural.
Yes, indeed.
Jeff Tate's here.
This is your anchor.
This is the ship.
See what I mean?
This doesn't move at all.
It will move. I'm just saying, ideally,
you would want this not to move at all.
This is SS John Cole.
Get your palm
facing up towards you
and then you're going to try
and get to your shirt pocket.
Go in like this
and your motion is this
towards your chest, exactly like that.
As long as your wrist touches this, that's good.
Anywhere from the wrist line to the fingertips
touching the pad or goes below it.
A locked position
because everybody has a lock in their arm
and the best way to start off
on a match is in that lock
because if you start before it
or after it, it's easier to extend
you and then all of a sudden, it's just
going to stop. That's where your lock
is. That's where you want to start in your match.
Right here? Which is at about 90 degrees
which is where you want it.
Not only is it this pressure
here going down, it's also
up.
I'm doing
this. Because that's your strongest
point. What Alex is showing you right now
also, if you think about it, because obviously
you work out, is when you work out, you don't work out
with weights away from your body. You keep everything
nice and tight.
What he's saying, if I had
a stack of weights over here and I got my arm
up here, 100 pounds, eh,
no problem. But if I get on
that side and pull it like this,
I can do about 300 pounds.
We did recently, which was rock climbing
and Juji was way far away
from the wall. Really far.
He was stretching way out and then
when he got his hips to the wall and his body
close to the wall, it was so much
easier. Absolutely. Juji's been training
a lot of grip strength and we do that in general.
Sure. How do you think that will apply to
this? Oh, huge. Huge?
Huge. If you've got a good hand,
you could almost dominate
the whole match from the very start. Really?
Oh, definitely. And this is the
reason why. I'll just show you real quick.
You've got a nice hand.
That sounds a little weird, but hey.
That's arm wrestling.
That's arm wrestling phase.
They're either going to attack you
from here to here
or from here to here. Now what that means is
if you've got a really strong, good hand
and I can't do nothing with it,
I'm going to go inside like what
he was showing you right here
and it takes the hand out of the equation
and now I'm just working off your muscle.
Now if I grab ahold of you and I find
a weak spot and your arm is strong,
I don't care about how strong you are.
I'm just going to attack you from here because my whole
objective is to separate your bicep
from your forearm and go
outside the power like this.
Is there a different
way of describing, is there a different term
for arm wrestling at a bar on a table
versus arm wrestling in a match
like this with all these different...
There's a huge difference because
in this setting it's a professional
table and you've got a 7 inch pocket that you've
got to keep your elbow in.
Where at a bar, you've got the whole table
and the big thing on a bar, you'll never
lose a game if you just do this one thing.
Oh? Yeah. People
arm wrestling bars, they're natural
hookers, so they're just going to go like this
and try to push you down.
You don't have a pad, you don't have elbow
pockets, all that stuff, so all you've got to do
is a lat pull. So if you're in a bar, you
do right here, just pull it to your lat.
It stretches out right here and it's
like pulling a little girl.
I'm excited to try that.
But bars usually get you
in fights too, so just be careful.
We go to bars to arm wrestle all the time.
Can you tell me if I have a nice hand?
I probably don't. You've got a really nice hand.
It's nice? Okay.
I've got confidence now. I have such
confidence. Okay, the way you're set up,
you'd never work out in a gym,
because you're way too far from your body.
I like the way he's set up.
I love it.
Keep your power tight to your core.
Power tight to my core?
I'm up against my lat.
You see where your arm is?
What you're doing is you're extending
yourself. I don't even have to do any work.
So bring your body to your arm
or bring your arm to your body.
Peg, you have to have
contact at all times.
You should be doing
something on this peg depending on your style.
If I'm going to go in sight,
I'm going to do a peg squeeze.
I'm pulling on it.
I'm pulling on that peg.
If I'm trying to extend
your forearm from your bicep, I'm pushing.
It's helping.
Go ahead and pin me a couple times.
Just pin him a couple times.
Okay.
Keep on doing that.
Do it about four or five times.
We're going to increase your power
by two-folds with just a couple little things.
Really?
All you're doing is a tricep move.
You're moving right here.
It's rotating up here.
You're doing some funky stuff right here.
Now keep all this as one.
Do not move it.
Then rotate your hips
and get my hand down to the pad
without moving anything here.
Go ahead and do it.
You're not carrying your hips away.
My whole body.
I'll show you right here.
This is you right now.
I'm just doing the arm.
I have no power in my arm.
This is how you should be doing it.
This isn't moving no more.
I'll prove a point here.
If I'm right here, I rotate my hips.
If you let go and I stand straight up,
my arm didn't move.
It's all right here at the hips.
Here?
Yes.
I'll try.
You can't have your arm blocking all your moves.
If your arm's right here,
it's forcing me to do this.
Keep your arm off the table.
Now when I go down...
Where do you put your hand on the anchor?
I'm either here.
I'm either pushing or pulling.
Concentrate on this right here.
When I go down,
it's going past the table.
My shoulder's at a 45 degree
going down to the ground.
My arm didn't move.
It's all body.
This shirt works pretty good.
The shirt's fine.
People think arm wrestling is this.
No, there's so much technical to it.
It's speed, strength, technique.
It's like shooting pool angles.
It's years and years
and years and years
of muscle memory.
How many years have you been doing this?
My first tournament was in 1968.
Oh gosh, okay.
I'm that close to 72.
Today I'm in the
40 and over.
This is what he's showing him.
You're just here to here.
You shouldn't have to move your feet
to any part of your body.
That's in theory.
During a match, you may have to adjust everything.
That was kind of scary looking.
That was pretty intense.
I'm going to be in the 185 division.
How hard do you think my ass
will get kicked?
You're dealing with beginners like yourself.
You're not going to be put up against a real seasoned arm wrestler.
You may be pulling with someone with no experience
like yourself.
It's hard to determine on the beginner side
or the amateur side of the deal.
It's a bit of a wild card.
We will not let a pro puller
come into the amateur side
just for the simple fact that
it's not his division.
I'll sell him an award if he wants one that bad.
You're so low on my hand.
You got me over to here.
All I have to do is bend this way.
Right now I have all the advantage.
You want to get up here.
Go like this.
Like this?
Always towards your face.
Watch the difference.
If I go like that versus if I pull this way.
A little higher.
As high as you can get away.
The ref will tell you to put it down.
Try and come high.
It feels like a hook grip.
Your whole body, one movement.
You're going to pull this way.
I'm going to shove you back here.
That makes sense.
He just needed to shove me back.
This is your left.
I can't even stretch my left.
I am wondering about your ring.
Is your wife Gina?
Yes.
Did she request
that you get a bigger ring?
It's a bracelet.
It's about the size of a small bracelet.
It's a size 30.
Did you have to get that custom made?
They just had it.
We've been waiting for this guy
all our lives to come for this ring.
Oh my god.
I don't know what to do.
This could be the same thing.
Try to get as high as you can.
High as I can?
Yes.
You want to be over your thumb.
My hand is bigger so it's higher.
If you can cap this finger like that.
That's like a hook grip.
The exact is a hook grip and barbell.
It helps you control
the hand more.
Do you like the socks?
Yes.
Your whole body
and now your feet.
You have to find a comfortable position.
You might take it two or three tries
to figure out where your feet are.
You've been doing this since the 80s?
Yes.
You've been doing it for 30 years
and you're going to kick my ass.
I'm trying to look.
I'm looking at a big ass ring.
That's not right.
We're going to do it all together.
That's much better.
Just like that. Staying tight.
Staying tight.
This is good.
Every time we pull someone different
there's always this little twist
that they do that throws you off.
Then you've got to readjust
as you're going.
That's why I like the sport.
It's always learning.
How's he looking?
Looking good.
It's good?
That was a good one.
The way you curled your wrist there
was nice.
You left your elbow.
Is that illegal?
No, it's not illegal.
You kind of shut your chest down
when you do that.
When you go outside
you keep the strength going.
Does that work?
Yes.
Now I feel these fingers.
Exactly.
Do the same exact motion
you've been doing.
Jeff, have you ever had a DEXA scan?
It's basically a body fat
and weight density analysis.
We got one
and his left arm was
a pound and a half heavier than his right arm.
It'd be really interesting
to see that for you.
It's like 50 bucks.
I've never done one.
You should do one.
It'd be wild.
Do you travel around to all these?
Stacy, Minnesota.
You're from Minnesota?
I'm from Wisconsin.
You seem like a Minnesotan.
Well, they're all telling me
how good I am, so I can't feel bad.
You actually look really good today.
Where do you put chalk in this?
All over.
Your thumb and your pointer finger.
You put some here in your elbow
so you can slide around.
If you don't have a good grip
it's not going to feel good.
You're going to be slipping.
You're going to be doing something
that you really don't want to do.
More movement.
Exactly.
One more time, but keep your stomach on the table.
There we go.
That was it.
You've done this a couple times.
The only difference you're going to do now
is turn your wrist in.
Turn your wrist in like this.
No, no, no.
This.
Good.
Is that it?
Good.
There's a lot of back pull here.
I explained to you what the hook was.
What you were doing there
is called the top hook.
That's going over the opponent's head.
Jeff, we have these grip gauntlet videos
where we do grip strength
and we always compare hand sizes.
Yours are definitely the biggest.
That's why I said
those grip things are hard for me to do
because they're too small in my hand.
We got some.
Do you want to try them?
It's hard for me to squeeze them all the way in.
Oh, God.
Ready?
Who's the referee?
Best two out of three.
Jeff was eating cat and crunch up there.
John's sweating. He's definitely trying.
Oh, God.
Go!
This isn't going to end well.
No, you have no chance.
If I let you go in too deep,
then I can't hold you.
It's hard to hold.
You've got a lot of strength.
If I can keep you up,
then I can hold you.
Go!
You can keep doing what you're doing.
As soon as you start rolling your wrists in,
that changes everything so much.
Your wrists and hands are strong.
You can beat a lot of guys just by
that move you just did.
Yeah.
It opens me up this way.
Thanks, Jeff.
What do you do in your
full-time profession?
I run a big heavy front end loader.
Oh, you do?
I load trucks and recycle concrete.
Wow.
That makes sense.
I sit on my ass all day and run a steering wheel.
Do you train your grip or weights?
I don't do no weights.
I just do a little bit with a band for endurance.
Wow.
Just to run the loader and steering all day.
It keeps everything moving fluidly.
It's a good stretch out when I go back to work
after a long weekend.
I'll sit back further in the seat
and force my arm to stretch all the way out
to keep it all stretched.
I think that's the key to movement.
How often do you arm wrestle a week?
Most of my training is on travel to the table.
It's full tournaments.
That's how I use my foot for practice.
You used to train a lot more
when you were building the strength?
I've always been big.
I lifted weights
when I was in high school.
When I graduated, I was 180 pounds.
I grew up on lakes.
I used to do a lot of boat rowing,
which helped a lot.
I used to boat row both ways,
forward and backwards.
That helped a lot of the whole upper body.
It's not just one muscle.
You just have a lot of functional strength.
That's what we're getting from this.
Yes.
I was graced with a lot of strength.
Can I ask your wife a question?
She comes to all the events with you, right?
Yes.
She saw the videos
with Jeff and you in them.
You were a super supporter of him.
He's always smiling.
He always looks pleasant and happy.
Even when you're in an intense
wrestling match.
He's pleasant.
How does he stay
so pleasant all the time?
He is.
I don't know.
He's just always happy.
He loves everyone.
I'm more of the hateful one.
That's good.
I do the smack talking.
It's Juji and I.
He's the lovely one.
I'm the hateful one.
We all have to have him.
You do.
I'm the bad cop and he's the good cop.
Thanks for being in the video.
Jeff is over there
taking pictures because he's so cool.
He's so cool.
We're really lucky to work with these guys.
Alex, thank you for teaching us.
We're going to get thrown into
a tournament.
How do you think Juji is going to do?
Be real.
First place.
How many people do I have to go up against?
I don't know.
Be real.
How do you think I'm going to do?
That's it.
That's how I'm going to do.
You're going to help me, right?
I will.
I'm about to get my dick kicked in.
Don't let anyone steal my stuff.
I'm wearing sunglasses
so no one can look me in the eyes.
Is this legal?
It's legal?
I'm not even going to do it.
Mother of ---- cock.
I got my ass kicked
but it was an okay ass kick.
We'll see what he remembers now on.
I'm less anxious now.
You were really anxious
before that.
I'm back up again.
Juji?
On deck, Juji, not yet.
Juji's never been in a sport with on deck
so he has no idea what's going on.
He did well, man.
Yes, he did very good.
It was fast.
I don't even have time to film it.
He's got good natural ability, man.
That's a competition, bro.
Are you ready for him?
Yeah, I'm ready.
Do you need ammonia?
You're number one.
At the table.
You bring it to your nose
and you just sink back.
I'm a natural arm wrestler.
Do you think Devin LaRotte
will destroy you?
We're going to bring Devin LaRotte to the gym.
He is probably the top level of arm wrestler.
Very technical.
He can send the ball
and he has
He's at the top.
We're going to bring him to the gym.
What do you think he's going to do
on the grip gauntlet?
Now that you're arm wrestling,
he can do your grip gauntlet
but then also arm wrestling.
We need to get an arm wrestling table for the gym.
We do.
Should we get one?
Don't we need one to train?
Me and you train every day.
Arm wrestling cardio in the morning.
The guy that I went up against
I see him rubbing his elbow over there
so at least I gave a fight.
I'm about to be in a losers bracket.
I'm going to lose.
Am I going to lose?
I don't want to bet against you.
I'm going to lose.
I'm the strongest man in the world.
I have the second biggest hands in the world.
Second biggest hands in the world.
Yeah.
On a scale of
one to not losing,
how did I lose not?
You did pretty good. You did better than I did.
You're too kind.
Thank you, man.
Will you coach me in the future?
Yes, I will.
Could you coach me to have bigger hands?
I just need a bigger hands coach.
My claim to fame is I have the second biggest hands in the world.
Alright.
Someone's got to be second.
Juju's got to do the finals.
How do you think he's going to do?
I think he's going to do very good.
All I need is just a bunch of people to be confident for me.
Outsource my confidence.
I know.
It's so great, man.
Why is this making me all nervous?
This is getting me butterflies in my stomach.
Is this like a butterfly exercise?
It's kind of like warming up your vocal cords, right?
Yep.
Juju and Tom Borden.
It's the start of your new life, John.
Get strong, man. Get strong.
Go!
Do a backflip!
And Dennis Howard.
You almost lost your worldly possessions on that.
I did, yeah. My fanny pack.
You don't want to leave him next to arm wrestlers, do you?
No. I'd have to arm wrestle him to get the fanny pack back.
That was a lot harder.
That guy was a lot harder.
He went into power.
He's actually pretty strong in a hook.
He fought you in a hook.
I felt like I had to use my strength.
It became a strength game.
You were inside, and you were using all of those things.
Did I make a funny face when I did it?
Yeah, that was funny.
Does he have another match?
He does. He's in the finals, I believe.
That was the semis?
I believe so, yeah.
That's not the only semi thing in the top four now.
Yeah, I'm ready to go.
You sent us a bunch of these in the giveaway.
And we love them for our forearms.
And this is the, we need it now, man.
I'm over here doing this.
With my thumb.
You should have let me enter the weight class.
That was so fun to watch you win.
Yeah, it was fun to win.
We've been waiting for 10, 15 minutes.
10, 15 minutes, 10 or 15 times.
Yeah.
It's been going for like four hours.
Here's the thing, I've been rubbing this arm with this thumb the whole time.
And it actually feels better than my other arm that I haven't been using.
Because I've been touching it so much.
You're against a tall mother.
I just don't know when I'm against a tall mother.
It's going to be soon.
What's the strategy to be a tall mom?
Have a firm grip.
And just, yeah, have a firm grip.
It's been another 15 or 20 minutes.
15, 20 minutes.
We're waiting.
Keep that wrist good.
All right, Thomas, this is the final.
And it's a guy you're up against first, right?
Yeah, he hasn't lost yet.
I get really tense just waiting for them to fight each other.
With their arms.
See, I just want this guy to win so I can say
I just got beat by the winner.
He's going to win.
Is there a foul?
If he doesn't win this, I think he's
spent it all on you.
I just want to make sure the guy in the neon green
knows that I got him that win.
I'm telling you.
On the A side.
No losses.
And Bob Roberts on the B side.
Come on, Juju.
He's got to come back again
because Juju has no losses.
Bring it home, Juju.
Bring it on, everybody.
First time you had sex?
That's tough.
Oh my god, the adrenaline.
There's nothing like it, actually.
I can't say it's anything like anything I've done.
That's why I enjoy doing it.
It's something you just can't get no more.
It's his amateur debut.
Should he go more into it, Jeff?
I would say yes. He's very gifted.
He's got the natural movement.
He's already got the strength in the hands.
I think we're going to get one of those tables.
That really helps a lot.
It's table time.
You get different people and you learn a lot more.
In the future, we'd like you to come down
and do some stuff.
That could be possible.
Would you be down?
Yeah.
Thanks, Jeff.
Jeff Dave on Facebook or Instagram.
Thank you so much again.
We appreciate you.
We're going to do arm wrestling more.
Can't wait to see you.
