1,200+ DEAD Confirmed – NEPAL FLASH FLOOD

More than 1,200 people have been confirmed dead following the devastating Nepal flash flood that struck the Himalayan border region with China. Thousands remain missing as rescue teams continue searching isolated communities, damaged hydropower facilities and underground tunnels along the Bhotekoshi-Trishuli river system.

The disaster began after a mass of ice and rock collapsed into the Lhende tributary above the border. The debris temporarily blocked the river, creating a barrier lake before the blockage failed and released a powerful surge of water, mud and rock downstream. Scientists say thawing permafrost probably contributed to weakening the mountainside, although the exact combination of factors remains under investigation.

Roads, bridges, settlements and hydropower infrastructure were destroyed, leaving some areas accessible only by helicopter. Hundreds of workers connected to affected power projects remain unaccounted for.
