It’s been decades of dreaming and planning to get to this moment, our first sailing lesson and overnight adventure and, what better vessel to experience these firsts on than a beautiful Voyage 500 catamaran?!
We also could not have had better hosts, Ted & Gail who are experienced sailors and patient teachers. This video chronicles our sail from the fright of getting out of the dock to the fright of returning the boat to the dock!
Thank God for our fearless and very talented Captain! We saw dolphins and rainbows, pulled lines, reefed sails, unfurled and furled the jib, jibed and juked (ha ha – I couldn’t resist), and battled with 20-25 knot winds.
It was epic! It’s truly a memory forever etched in our brains and it has only further fueled our love and excitement for our sailing future!
NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia.
So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too!
As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. Hopefully, you will be as BLOWN AWAY from watching, as we are in experiencing and producing our adventures!

Did you say overnight on a sailboat?
I'm sweating.
Oh!
Alright!
Hi everybody!
We are going sailing!
Yeah!
We are on Isla Morada
and we are going to Tavernier
to get on a
Voyage 500 and
due to the hurricane
Isaias, we are not going to go off
to the Atlantic side.
We are going to sail in the bay
to just keep the winds down a little bit.
And we are going to spend the night
I think around the Everglades
somewhere. This is epic
everybody! This day is like
a turning point in our lives
and we are doing it with two great people
who you are going to meet here soon
Ted and Gail
and they are extremely
experienced sailors and awesome
people. Alright, we are getting ready to get on
the boat.
We've got
our supplies.
Ice is coming!
This is Gail.
Hello, nice to meet you.
She is lovely. Welcome aboard.
One of our hosts.
Alright y'all, this is Ted. He is
Gail's husband.
He is awesome. He is our sailing
host today. Yes sir.
And man, I
can't wait to crank up those
29 miles.
Wait until we get the impact
from Isaias. Her came in
Isaias this afternoon and sailed into the eye.
It is going to be phenomenal. You are going to
love it. It is really going to be
exciting for you. What do you think the wind is going to be doing?
15 to 20.
Perfect sailing. Perfect day.
Perfect company.
Where is the power button? Down below.
Go ahead and touch it.
Now it is on. Now start.
Man, this
is so beautiful Ted. Look how
pretty. Those new electronics.
You can't beat that.
Curling like a kitten.
Curling like a kitten. Oh yeah.
Telling you something. How are you doing over there sweetie?
Are you excited?
So excited. Oh yeah.
Hello Milan is off right
here.
We got the princess over here.
Oh yeah.
Oh my goodness, you are sitting
right there.
I am sweating.
One engine or two?
Reverse?
No, out of gear.
Oh, it is great.
I know. It couldn't be better.
This is a Tesla sailboat.
Just about ready
to be able to stick it in gear.
Right straight forward. All the way?
Yep. That's good. Right there.
Stand by a minute.
Watch what your bow is doing.
I can see it going this way so
I can counter steer a little bit.
Dave, you are doing great.
You have a great instructor.
You are doing it.
You are.
A little rain right now. Look, we are
going. Good job sweetie.
A little more throttle here.
And we are off.
A little rain
going.
Nice little canal that we are in right now.
You go girl.
This is crazy.
We got to go to the right.
I am heading around here.
Just go straight forward.
On a scale from one to ten, how much fun
are you having? Fifteen.
Fifteen, good.
Music
This has been amazing.
The Cretagail are awesome.
They are an awesome teacher.
They are so patient.
And safe, which is fantastic.
We've tacked
and jived a few times.
We are getting used to
just the understanding about sailing.
There is so much to think about.
Whether it is the
depth of the water
or avoiding
the lobster traps.
You have to watch the direction of the wind
and make sure that the sails are
not rubbing.
There is just so much to it.
So much to it.
But it is really, really cool.
The best sign of all was
we got some dolphins today.
And they said on their first sail
that is very good luck.
On average, about 7 knots.
The wind has been
26-27 knots.
Mainly on the breeze.
We are having a great, great time.
After a few hours
sailing, we decided to settle into our
anchorage for the night, which started with
furling the sails and dropping the anchor.
Music
You are like a little monkey on your coconut tree.
We are here
at our anchorage for the evening.
And it is
just such a peaceful place.
Hey guys, if you love

Yeah, I will say we're getting it done. That's the kitchen overview
It's a gorgeous morning
Place where they dock the boat
Captain Brown bringing us in
job, honey
Babe, you got this
You got it you got two two million dollar ultra mares and all you have to do is squeeze between them, okay
Well, we just got back from our first day of sailing that was pretty amazing our first sailing overnight and our first sailing lesson
That's really cool. What did you love about it, honey?
I love cranking up those twin yanmar diesels
Oh the power 56 horsepower apiece and then that just steering this
massive voyage 500 beautiful boat down the canal and then
Getting out there. It was a rough day
But finally put an anchor to where we're gonna spend the night and it was just incredibly peaceful in that rainbow
Mwah and the swim and the dive off the top and then okay, I'll stop here just a minute
But there's so many things at night being at anchor with the hatches open
There was that hurricane. It was just blowing wind off the anchor through the hatches and it just was
Incredible breeze all night long really comfortable. How about you?
Wow, just we learned so much about sailing about what it's like to
be at the helm and the responsibility that that is
It was amazing and just being in 20 to 30 knot winds for our first time. Ted and Gail were so patient
Oh my gosh, they're great teachers. Yeah. Yeah huge. Thanks to Ted and Gail for taking us out and spending the time with us
And it's just kind of a pivot point in our lives
I will never forget you for that first sailing instruction and that night out on the sound
So we're looking forward to more lessons and more opportunity on the water and that will come in the next few months for sure
Absolutely. Thank you everyone. We'll see you soon. Thanks for watching
