It is official as the Steelers make a plethora of moves to cut down to a 53-man roster. That
53-man roster we were heavily anticipating with a lot of names that may surprise you,
but also a lot of names that do not as well. How's everyone doing today? And here we go.
This, at least in my eyes, is kind of the start really of everything here. A lot of eyes come
towards this 53-man roster because it gives us an awesome idea of what to expect from this season.
Obviously, a lot of the main guys that you're going to expect are going to be, you know,
that have already made the roster, but there also are a lot of surprises as well. So,
let's just hop right into it. The Steelers have waived a ton of players. As you've seen some of
the videos that have come out in the past 24 to 48 hours, you've seen some of the other moves that
they've made, trading guys like Broderick Jones and Caleb Johnson, cutting other guys. But here
is kind of the final list here of players that the Steelers get rid of. You see guys like Kyler
Baugh, Devon Boykin, Sebastian Castro, Anthony Goodloe, Matthew Herliman, Deshaun Jamison,
Steven Jones, Layson Mason, Lake McCree, Doug Nester, Lou Nichols, which is a surprising name
that I don't think a whole lot of people were expecting to be cut to make way for another
2026 draftee to make the team, defensive back D'Nico Slaughter, wide receiver Brandon Smith,
linebackers Julius Welshoff and Jacoby Windman. And then also from earlier on,
kind of in the day, Malik Harrison, Travis Homer, Dean Lowery, Ezio Tomolo, and E. N.
Landon Roberts. Not a whole lot of surprises from that list besides the name that I really stopped
on there, which was Lou Nichols. Lou Nichols was awesome this entire preseason. He, when he got
the ball in his hands, he made plays happen, even in kind of the smaller plays that you saw.
You saw his great burst off the line. You saw his great movability. He made a lot happen,
honestly. And he probably was, not even probably, I would say in my opinion, definitely the best
running back that showed face in that preseason. But sadly, he is gone. Some other moves that the
made as well. They placed a Sean Elliott and Jack Driscoll both on the IR, the injury reserve list,
but they're both designated to return. Defensive back Dante Kent was placed onto the reserve
slash physically unable to perform list, the PUP list. And then big news as well, along with this
53-man roster is the activation off of the PUP list in Joey Porter Jr. We don't have any more
news after this, but it seems like in terms of trying to get Joey Porter Jr. back re-signed with
the team, this is the first move to really do that, to get him activated off of that PUP list.
If he wasn't activated off that PUP list, he would have had to stay out for four weeks,
which would have been really detrimental to the Pittsburgh Steelers in their hopes to try to make
the playoffs. Because if no Joey Porter Jr., you're looking at a quarterback one of Jamel Dean,
you're looking at other guys that again, well, actually we can get into right here
to show you the official 53-man roster. You can see kind of in the bottom there,
a long list. Thank you, Nick Faribault for this long list of all the 53 guys that made the roster.
You're going to have Jalen Ramsey, you have Jamel Dean, Ahsante Samuel, that's shown a lot,
and then younger guys like Dalen Everett, and then Brandon Echols as well. Take Joey Porter
off of that list, and it's hard to say what you feel about that quarterback room. So again,
Steelers really got to make sure they get Joey Porter re-signed and ready to go for week one,
which is only in two weeks from today. Basically, it would be just under two weeks when they take
on the Atlanta Falcons, but let's break down the rest of this 53-man roster. You see the
quarterbacks up top, we'll get more into that later. Running backs that made it, Jalen Warren,
Regal Dowdle, and then Eli Heidenreich. That may come to surprise to some of you guys.
Six wide receivers make it out of the tight end slash fullbacks. Looks like you got four of them
made it, the fourth one being Riley Nowakowski. You see the offensive line that made it, the
defensive line, the outside linebackers for it, inside linebackers did make it, including
Carson Bruner. Again, that may seem like a surprise when you consider guys like an Atlanta
Roberts, like a Malik Harrison that maybe could have made the roster, but Carson Bruner showed
out, was able to put himself in that position. But I stopped myself before I mentioned that
those four quarterbacks, because that really is the biggest news that comes out of a lot of this
stuff. On today's cut down day, the Steelers did in fact keep all four quarterbacks. This,
again, we had a video on this earlier in the week, doesn't come as a surprise based on what
Mike McCarthy has said, but is officially set in stone. Aaron Rodgers, Mason Rudolph, Drew Aller,
Will Howard. Is it in that exact order? Probably not. But those are the four quarterbacks that are
going to be on the roster in 2026 for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Aaron is your starter,
Mason is going to be your backup. And then keeping Drew Aller and Will Howard, honestly,
I know it probably takes a roster spot from a guy like a Lou Nichols, a guy like a Travis Homer,
maybe even a guy like Alaina Roberts, but we'll see. Make sure you subscribe to the channel,
because we'll probably get back to that. I wouldn't be surprised if the Steelers do
resign Alaina Roberts and you see him back on the team. But having Drew Aller and Will Howard,
keeping both of those young guys on the roster, I personally love it. Not a whole lot of snaps to go
around for those quarterbacks in practice, but let's just say this, if one of, and I don't even
include Mason Rudolph in this, if one of a Mason Rudolph or Will Howard or Drew Aller was cut and
was thrown into, you give teams the ability to go get them, I think they would have been snatched
up in an absolute instant. So that gives you an idea of the type of caliber quarterbacks that the
Steelers have. So they keep all four of them, big shot for Will Howard and Drew Aller, see what
they got there as well. Now let's move on to the, some of the younger guys, excuse me, some of the
younger guys that were able to make the roster, Eli Heidenreich, Kevin Jobidi Jr. and Gabriel Rubio
all make the roster. These were all late on day three draft picks or UDFA as it is, and they all
made it. And I think the biggest name really to talk about here is going to be Eli Heidenreich.
I was not really expecting Eli Heidenreich, honestly, to make the roster. I thought it was
going to give him, that spot was going to be given to Lou Nichols, that spot was going to be given to
a Travis Homer, but Eli Heidenreich was able to show enough to stay on the roster, and I love it.
If you watch the draft, you saw the reception for this kid in Pittsburgh. Obviously he is a part of
the Navy, so that, you know, inherently everyone loves him because he was, you know, he went to Navy
and he played for Navy, but it's just so awesome to see this, you know, see this guy be able to
make the roster. He showed a ton at Navy, honestly, as more than just a running back, as a, you know,
as a receiving option, as kind of a fullback option, a kind of jack of all trades, if you will,
anywhere on that offensive side of the ball, and it's no wonder that Mike McCarthy loved that side
of him being able to, you know, use him in a lot of different ways. They didn't really use him in a
whole, in a whole lot of ways in the preseason, I'll be honest, right, but they only really used
him as a running back, but even if it was just a running back, he's still a really good running
back as well. He showed some, definitely showed some flashes in the preseason, but I really hope
in the regular season they can use him in a wide receiver position, they can use him possibly in a
fullback position. I know they have Nyla, I know they have Riley Nowakowski, but I'm gonna flash
the 53-man roster back up because this is, this is, you know, gonna be the guys heading into
this regular season, and it's really, really exciting. It's hard not to get excited by this
time of year. Again, just two weeks until this regular season gets rolling, until the Pittsburgh
Steelers take on the Atlanta Falcons. It's gonna be an awesome, awesome time. You're gonna want to
make sure you're subscribed to the channel here so you keep up to date with all things Pittsburgh
Steelers. Throw a like, throw a comment. Tell me what you think about this 53-man roster. Do you
like keeping four quarterbacks? Do you like keeping Eli Heiderreich? Do you like cutting a guy like
Lou Nichols or any of the other names that maybe you saw cut that you were maybe surprised by?
Also, we had videos on this, but might as well drop your comments, drop comments down below on
your thoughts on Alaina Roberts, Joey Porter Jr., any of this stuff. Just tell me what you think.
But again, we'll be back really, really soon as we continue to ramp up to this regular season.
It's gonna be a really good time. Have a good rest of your night, guys.
