AI GeneratedThe Pittsburgh Steelers have traded running back Caleb Johnson to the Green Bay Packers. This move signals a shift in the team's operational strategy, prioritizing the removal of players who do not fit the current offensive scheme over holding onto draft assets. The trade provides Green Bay with depth amid Josh Jacobs' off-field situation.
We have some breaking news.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have just made yet another move this
time another trade involving a former third-round pick is the
Steelers continue to make tons of moves tons of transactions.
They've officially traded Caleb Johnson.
We're going to break down the trade more importantly discuss
what it means going forward as this is signifying the beginning
of a crazy day and a crazy change of just the way this team
is operated lots to go over as well.
Some more news ahead of that 6 p.m.
Deadline where more moves are going to happen folks project
Jones was traded.
It was yesterday.
Now we have Caleb Johnson getting moved.
Let's dive right into it.
Just in the Steelers are trading running back.
Caleb Johnson to the Packers Johnson.
When people are Johnson, sorry was Pittsburgh's third-round
pick out of Iowa last year and gives Green Bay added insurance
at running back amid Josh Jacobs off field situation.
So this is notable for a few different reasons.
If you watch Jack and I's video from a few hours ago, we talked
about how you know, as you feel a pony talked about how there
could be multiple trades, you know today and I said take it
with a grain of salt as we would because it is Andrew Filippone
of course, but keep in mind Caleb Johnson was the name that
we mentioned as you know as the name of because he doesn't
fit Arthur Smith's offense and spent fit not Arthur Smith doesn't
fit Mike McCarthy's offense.
Obviously and we talked about Arthur Smith last year.
He definitely kind of didn't get a ton of run there.
Now.
He was a former third-round pick.
That's where this things a little bit and let's dive into
it on now.
So we'll break down tons of things.
Let's start with this with Caleb Johnson's trade.
The Steelers are now parted ways with seven players were drafted
in the third round or higher since 2021.
That is absolutely abysmal and obviously the front offices
remain the same.
So how much insight did Mike Tomlin have in the draft picks?
How much will that actually affect how much did that affect
the draft picks?
You know, Caleb Johnson, you know, he was a beast in college
kind of like he was decent.
They picked him.
I didn't hate to pick at the time and he's shown a lot of
promise at the maybe not the NFL level, but just in general
now, I mean for a guy who's a third-round pick was great
at a college has a ton of obviously, you know, had a few
bad moments.
The Pittsburgh Steelers would think back to a lot of different
a lot of different times, but I do want to dive into a few
different things.
So we don't know the return yet.
I will pin a comment when the return is out, but the Steelers
will incur a 2026 dead money charge.
Now that the trade of Caleb Johnson that charge is $318,000
and then another dead money charge of $637,000 in 2024 now
or 2027.
So because of obviously the move that they made they are going
to incur some fees and stuff like that.
I'm a little bit less worried about that.
I'm more worried about specifically what this means going
forward.
They are clearly high on Eli Heidenreich and again, we don't
know exactly what the return is yet.
We would presume that it's going to be like a six or seventh
round pick.
It's not going to be anything crazy.
It's more so about getting off of players early with any value
before they turn into no value.
Now you can see here in an article that was dropped by Steelers
Depot. The clean slate of a new coaching staff did nothing
to chase Johnson's minimal playmaking in the offense.
And if anything meant that Johnson was no longer on the
scholarship of being the 83rd pick a year ago.
He struggles a rookie and rarely saw the field now whether
this, you know, Caleb Johnson experience was a failure because
of him on the field the way that he was coached the way that
he was used.
I think it's a big mix of all of them and he there's a very
good chance.
He goes over to the Green Bay Packers and actually has a
hell of a season over there, especially with the opening at
running back because of the Josh Jacobs situation that's
going off of the field.
He's going to have an opportunity to get a ton of run in
now.
It is clear that I mean you can see here.
He's the first Steelers third on draft pick who failed to
make the roster in his second year at the team since Craig
Erbic in 2010 lack of versatility as a receiver blocker special
team or gave him no value to the team sucks to make a bad
pick like that.
So early in the draft only thing worse is holding on to it
smart to trade him and it sucks that literally last year
they made the pick and then now you get no value to basically
wasted a third round pick but they were not going to use
him, right?
I mean Mike McCarthy was not going to use him Brian Angelico
not going to not going to use them like it's very obvious.
So may as well get rid of them.
It seems like according to a lot of reports now, they aren't
necessarily shopping, right?
They weren't they're not necessarily shopping these guys,
but if teams come to them, they will be willing to trade
them.
There wasn't a player on the Steelers offense.
That was less suited to the transition from Arthur Smith
schemes to Mike McCarthy's and Caleb Johnson still think
there's a good runner there, but the Steelers are going to
be a passing team and that's not Johnson's game.
That's clear, right?
They obviously have now the running back tandem of Jalen
Warren and you know, Rico Doudle who still are that's a very
good tandem.
Caleb Johnson's behind them, but they don't necessarily
need another running back, especially one that has no hands
or Jalen Warren can receive the ball.
Rico Doudle can receive the ball.
Caleb Johnson can't really do that or at least hasn't shown
the ability yet.
Now they attempted to use him on kick returns.
We think back like I mentioned earlier video last year the
week to gap he had against the Seahawks.
That was almost the beginning of the end for Caleb Johnson,
which sounds absolutely insane.
Let me think back to this entire offseason opened up this
summer as the number three running back lost that to Travis
Homer Lou Nichols, who's very very solid.
This also kind of shows a lot of faith in Eli Heidenreich,
which they should give him some faith because I actually
think he's going to be a very very good player.
You see here at the last end seventh round of rookie Eli
Heidenreich saw the bulk of the second half action despite
hardly practicing in the days leading up to the game between
minor leg injury.
They're going into the young guys.
They're going into the names that they actually drafted.
This is a completely new feeling for all of us, right?
Mike Tomlin's gone.
Obviously, Arthur Smith is gone.
There's a different regime now and I'm happy that they aren't
holding on to pieces that they're clearly not going to
use. Now, obviously, I'm not going to get into Josh Jacobs
situation, but it is what it is, right?
And the dead money stuff does suck.
And we're still waiting on the return, which is a little
bit crazy.
I wanted to get it out to you ASAP.
I'll have a pin comment.
I am almost positive.
It'll be like a sixth round pick or something like that.
We're still waiting on the exact return, but the Steelers
have had a rough go drafting running backs and they obviously
did have the hit with Jalen Warren.
I'm going to show you guys here now from Nick Farabaugh
who just tweeted this and have a look at this here since
drafting James Conner in 2017.
Here's the list of running backs Steelers have drafted
since Najee Harris was was he worth the first round pick?
He had okay run.
We'll see.
We'll see how Eli Heinrich, you know, works out, but I mean
they found and I said drafted didn't even draft you the
one that was he found him through undrafted free agency
actually, which is kind of crazy.
I forgot about that.
I don't know folks.
It is it is a wild wild situation now.
It is a good move though.
It's even Kevin Adams.
Love this getting whatever value can for guys who just
didn't work out load up on the picks accept your mistakes
early rip the band-aid off and move on Steelers working
efficiently now, which is the best part about all of this
because this is the polar opposite of what we've seen
for the past handful of seasons.
They'd hold on to guys too long.
They'd lose their value.
They'd leave in free agency.
You get no trade value for them.
Nothing.
They're cutting ties early and sure it there's the opportunity
the potential of you know, this not working out and you
know, brother Jones turning in to a very good player and
all this it is what it is.
It wasn't going to work out with the Steelers.
They now have 19 more moves to make they've made 19 and
now they have 19 more moves to seems like to make I think
there's a lot of moves to make.
I don't know the exact number before tonight.
So comment down below what your thoughts are on this.
I do want to dive into this quick report from Jerry Dulac
the Steelers were not shopping for Roderick Jones, nor
Caleb Johnson, but they are willing to listen if teams
approach them.
So clearly they aren't you can see here Blitzburg Steelers
are not looking at trades but are willing to listen if
teams call that's why the return will be interesting, but
it's still kind of private now and probably will be for
a bit but Caleb Johnson officially off the team.
We look at the depth chart now on the offensive side of
things.
It is obviously Caleb Johnson is still there.
Travis Homer is going to move up.
You obviously have Rico Dowdle.
We'll have to see what happens with Eli Heinrich.
I'm liking the way this team is operating.
No BS.
Absolutely.
No BS.
You guys are absolute beast of support.
Thank you guys for watching more videos on the way.
Cheers.
