AI GeneratedPatti takes viewers along for a day of errands, including sending a birthday package to her sister and visiting thrift stores in Vermont. She shares her finds, discusses the sustainability of thrifting among college students, and showcases a variety of home decor and clothing items acquired during her trip.
I have some errands to run and it's been a minute since I've been thrifting so I am craving a trip
to the thrift store and I want to bring you with me so let's go. Welcome back to Relatively Refined,
my name is Patti. One of the errands that I need to do before we go thrifting is I need to stop
at the post office and send a little package to my sister Paula. She has a birthday coming up
in September and I just wanted to show you a couple little things that I'm going to be sending
her. So I have a card, this is from my thrifted card collection and it's a beautiful, I'll show
you, she loves her birds so I have this beautiful little bird in a birdcage with some flowers so I
have that to go and then I have a couple little vintage items or I'm not sure that they're vintage
but a couple little homemade items. So one of the things I'm sending out to her is this, I think it's
a teapot cozy, it's quilted, cut the tag off, it is handmade I believe and it has this really pretty
green fabric on this side and this little appliqued teapot on this side. I love this, I think it's so
cute. So I thrifted this for her a while ago and I'm going to send that along. You know Paula loves
tea and little quilted items and it's so cozy and if it's not something she can use she can
absolutely put it in her booth to enjoy or for somebody else to enjoy and then I did also get
her this stick pin which I think is so cute. I know she has a little, I don't know if it's a sugar shaker or I think
she has like a hat pin holder so I thought this would be cute to add to her collection. Got some
pretty purple beads and like a little kind of vintage looking silver backing and then when we
were growing up in the 70s and 80s, particularly in the 80s, I remember stick pins were quite the thing
so I thought she would like that as a little decor piece or again if she wants to put it in her
vintage booth she can do that. These are all little things, easy to send out. So I'm going
to package them up, go to the mail, send that out and then let's go thrifting. I haven't been in so
long, not looking for anything in particular but I just thought it'd be fun to peruse the shelves
and see what we can find. All right, let's go. We're here at the Goodwill in Williston, Vermont
and of course I have to go right for a little individual plate. You know I can't resist those
to put under plants or just around the house and I left that there but
it was definitely pretty. I actually really like this. This is a honey jar, three dollars
and I just thought it was really, I thought it was really neat. My husband is a huge fan of honey
but I had visions of that dripping everywhere and I was so disappointed to see a crack in this
muffin tin. I think this is Heartstone Pottery which is one of my favorite pottery manufacturers
and my sister Paula just told me that she was looking for a muffin tin for Neve and I thought
that would have been so cute but no go with a chip. And I love this Liberty Blue plate from
Staffordshire. I have a little growing collection of these. I think I have four
so I thought that was a nice addition to the collection. It did go in my cart by the way
and I thought this was cute. A little pottery pinch bowl. I just thought that was so cute with
the little painted lemons on it. Super cute. I didn't have any use for it so I left it behind
but awfully cute for sure. I had a whole collection of those glass jars with silver
tops for a vanity, a bathroom set and I'm always drawn to anything on a pedestal. Loved that cake
plate. Did not get it but loved it and I spent a little bit of time looking at this Ray Dunn
Halloween mug that said trick on one side and treat on the other. I know some people have
strong feelings about Ray Dunn. I do not. I happen to like the black matte ones and I thought that
could have been cute with a just a little like some Halloween treats in it for my daughter.
I left it behind. I also spent some time looking at this hand towel stand. This you would put on
a vanity and keep hand towels in it and what I was really looking at was what I could repurpose
it for. If you've been watching the channel I've done a few videos in a series of kind of
repurposing thrift store items and I thought this could be great for scarves or jewelry or belts or
something like that and correct me if I'm wrong but I think this is for serving meat. Is that
for the juices to disperse throughout? Pretty sure it is. Very clever. I see these from time to time
and there were several that my mother-in-law had in her attic so I do not need any. Sorry about that.
Almost dropped my phone and also in the medals I just thought this was so cute. Christmas is a time
for family and friends. It has a Gorham back stamp. I just thought it was such a cute little size
and could be so pretty out at the holidays. Awfully pretty. Also left behind.
Well let's head back home and I'll show you what I picked up.
All right well I'm back from my little from my errands and my thrifting and I just have a quick
story to tell you. I went to the post office and then I had some things to drop off for my daughter
who lives in Burlington, Vermont. She is a going to be a junior at the University of Vermont and
she has an old apartment there so I had to drop some things off and while I was there it's move-in
week so it was kind of crazy. So I went over to a couple towns over to the Goodwill in Williston,
Vermont and I was so thrilled to see so many college students there looking for things for
their apartments or their dorm rooms or clothing and I don't know it just made my little thrifting
heart happy because that's just a such a sustainable way to furnish apartments. It's a
way to keep things out of the landfill and it just shows a lot of the thriftiness and creativity that
I just love to see and so it was just nice to see all these you know 18, 19 year olds just shopping
away and I kind of just I don't know I took it all in. I like to see what they were buying,
they were buying you know some furniture pieces for their dorms and apartments and some of them
were buying clothing. It just was a real artwork for the wall and I just thought oh this is really
encouraging and really nice to see. So anyway I won't go on and on but I just wanted to share
that little story because I think that we have a nice generation of people who care about the planet
and who are financially savvy and I don't know it just made me feel good. All right well let me get
into what I bought. I went to the Goodwill and I went to a charity thrift store and that was it.
The first thing I got I think will be part of my own collection. It was just a loan plate
and it is part of the Liberty Blue collection and it's made in England. It just has no chips or nicks
and it was just by itself so I think that's why it was still there. It wasn't part of a set.
I have found I have four of these so this will be a fifth. I'm going to try to get to six or eight of
them but I have found that these are you know these are obviously quite sought after but I have
found that a lot of them are chipped and damaged especially if they're stacked. So sometimes the
loan plates are a little bit they're a little bit better. So anyway this I did pick up for my own
personal collection. Do I need plates? Absolutely not but if I decide to part with these I think
I'll have better success with a collection of six. So I just need one more and then I can evaluate if
I want to keep going. But these look so beautiful in my home. You know I love blue and white so
there's still some sticker on there but you can see the back stamp it is Liberty Blue Staffordshire
England. These are just so pretty. There's nothing prettier in my opinion on a summer table than this
blue and white dishes and they when you if you find them in a thrift store just make sure
you check all the way around because they are prone to chips. This one was in beautiful shape
and it was five dollars which I think is about the thrifted going rate. And then another plate
this one will likely be going into my booth. Anyway this is so pretty this is from the Victoria
and Albert Museum in London and it is part of the William Morris collection. I think it's called
the Double Bough and I just fell in love with the colors on this. Aren't they beautiful? These spring
colors I love William Morris anything William Morris and then you know the fact that it's from
the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and this whole collaboration I think is just so perfect.
So this is what I would consider more like a trinket dish size or just like a commemorative
plate size. I did a whole video which I will link here here on what to do with sort of these
decorative plates and there's so many uses for these and this one I think would be so pretty
as a gift with like if you make soap or if you buy some homemade soap as a little soap dish that
wrap it in cello with a pretty I don't know maybe like this color of like salmon pink bow on it
wouldn't that be a beautiful gift for somebody and I absolutely adore this little plate. I had to run
and put on a little jacket it's a little bit chilly I closed the windows so fall is definitely
coming. So let's see a few other things I picked up. I also picked up this adorable set of salt
and pepper shakers. I'm not much of a salt and pepper shaker person but I love fruit of any kind
and pears especially and of course apples. These are rather large they have their stoppers
they're intact which I think is really nice. They are ceramic and I just think they are so
cute like I said they're on the larger side which means they make could also make just a nice little
decor item on a shelf and so I think these will go into my booth for the fall. I think they are so
adorable. Here's a little better picture without as much glare so I think they are vintage
sakura so just a fun little set. I also picked up this adorable little metal tray.
Glare always glare isn't that so cute little tin metal tray with painted flowers.
I am a real sucker for anything black so especially in the fall. I love a black tray
black candlesticks. I just love to add pops of black so this size of this tray is really sweet
and I was actually thinking this would be a great thing to keep the salt and pepper shakers on and
actually these fit beautifully but they do cover up enough so that you wouldn't really
be able to see but you get the idea something like that so I thought that was really a sweet little
tray. There's no signature or anything on it but I thought in my booth just as a cute little
decorative piece and how cute would this be on an easel really really cute. I am really sorry
about this glare what if I turn it's the ring light and it's this room does not get a lot of
natural light so it's probably not the best room to film in but it's the room I'm most comfortable
in. Okay I have one more thing to share and it's a clothing item and I called my sister Paula when
I got this and I said I got to check it for stains because it's the absolute worst color
for stains and she said off-white cream and I said exactly that's exactly right so if you know
you know that if you have like white you can bleach it's sometimes this off-white cream color
that is the hardest to clean. You really have to be careful so anyway I got this cute I'm sort of
I love a cardigan in the back I am a cardigan person I love anything that I can take on and
off zips up button up whatever and I thought this was so cute so it's a sweater kind of looks like
a jacket but it's a little fine gauge sweater it's got a nice weight to it it is from H&M
so this is no big designer brand but H&M has a really nice kind of like professional and work
line and anyway I just thought this was so pretty and just very simple and it appears to be
spotlessly clean for now and I just think this is such a fun and classic style of cardigan.
All right everyone that is all I have for you today I want to thank you so much for spending
