AI GeneratedA traveler visits several viral, high-end hotels in China to see if their social media fame matches reality. By evaluating service, amenities, and value, he discovers a wide gap between properties: some offer breathtaking views but poor service, while others deliver high-quality experiences that live up to the online hype.
There's a bunch of insane looking hotels that keep going viral on social media and they all
seem to be in China. So I'm going to visit three different hotels all across China to find out
whether they are really as good as they look online or if we're all just being lied to. The
first one is located in the Yunnan province. Apparently it's a luxury hotel and I freaking
hope so as it cost me 329 pounds for one night which is very expensive for China. I have seen
dozens of posts of this hotel going viral, built to blend into the surrounding mountains and has
the most insane views which I posted on my Instagram and that went viral which shows how
cool it is. But is it that cool in person? I have arrived at the Mo Ye Snow Mountain Cliff Hotel.
Hello? Hello? Is anyone home? This is like we're inside a cave. Oh my god, this is a lobby.
Well, please show your ID. Okay, thank you. Already the views and architecture of this hotel look
insane. However, before I was even able to take in the views or get to see the room I would be
staying in, they seemed to want something from me first. We're going to shoot a promotional video.
I want an invitation. Me? Yeah. Maybe. Being the businessman I am, I asked what was in it for us.
Uh, how much do we get paid? Uh, you don't need to pay. It's free. Can we get paid? Huh? Free food?
Yeah, we can. We can give you some food free. Okay. Before we took part in our modelling debut,
we'd been treated to afternoon tea, which I wasn't expecting much from considering we are in
China. They make good Chinese food here but not sure if this is their speciality. I have no idea
what's going on at this moment. We've just sat in this restaurant and they've given us a little
platter of food. A little burger with a Chinese flag inside it. I don't know what this...
Is that a blueberry? That is a blueberry. These look quite cool. And then a little sandwich with a very
thick piece of what I don't think will be ham. Honestly, this hotel wasn't off to the best start.
The service has just been a bit weird. My plate wasn't really that clean and the windows of the
restaurant were so dirty. Maybe I'm just being picky. But in order to figure out whether these
free hotels are as good as they look online, I'm going to rank each of them in a few different
categories and then give them the all-important expectation versus reality score. I then got my
brief for the photo shoot but before that, it was time to get shown to our room. This room.
Oh, okay. Wow, thank you. Maybe we don't have so much time. Okay, what time? We need to go
2.30 o'clock. Okay, I go off at 2.30. Yeah, okay, thank you. Yeah, I wouldn't say the service is
off to a great start. I don't know if it's language barrier. It just seems a bit like
rude. They left the door open. Wide open. That guy then came back like 10 minutes later to remind me
about the photo shoot again. Yeah, I kind of lost my patience with him to be honest. Why do
I feel like I'm doing a job and not staying at a hotel I paid hundreds of pounds for? What?
So before I'm able to give you a tour of our 300-pound room, it was time for me to make my
acting debut. Oh, this is the coffee shop. This is nice. Honestly, I was pretty nervous for this
photo shoot. I didn't really want to do it but I've been told it was with a girl. So of course,
there was one thing on my mind. If I end up meeting him in Spanish, tell her that.
Okay, okay. Now, I don't know if you've ever had to have a fake conversation with someone before
where you cannot communicate but it is extremely painful. I thought she didn't speak a word of
English. So I thought I'd be funny and ask her a question. So, do you have a boyfriend?
Turns out she did know a few English words and those ones, she did.
That tea looks very good. Very, very good.
Go on then, it's your time. Just to let you know by the way, she does have a boyfriend.
Yeah. She said yes.
How was the date? I feel like you got a lot more than me.
My time? Where?
Secured free dinner. Unfortunately, not a girl.
We then decided to go explore the hotel. I helped them do a bit of cleaning,
made the most of the amenities and found a feature called the walk of death.
It's not called that but it did feel like that.
Don't be a pussy.
Nah, you got that.
That's a grown-ass man right there.
Scared to walk across the glass.
Anyways, it was now time for the all-important room tour.
This is what has cost us the big bucks.
As you walk in, there is a toilet, which I ended up using.
There is a massive vanity area with two sinks, a Dyson hairdryer, a spare toothbrush,
shaving kit, a bathtub, which honestly doesn't look very comfortable at all.
What do you mean I've got a right angle in my back?
It's also missing the plug, which is super useful for a bath.
A couple of bathrobes, towels and the shower was nice, to be fair.
Very nice ambiance in this bathroom.
Now, credit where credit is due, the rooms of this hotel are very cool.
I believe we did get an upgrade for doing the photo shoot.
If you're willing to pay more money, there is some insane rooms in this hotel.
Maybe they're not as good as they look.
I feel like that is a theme with this hotel.
We have one big bed and one slightly less big bed or the slightly less big person.
Mini fries.
Anything good?
Bonbon.
That looks like it could be a pineapple juice.
This, I think, is beer but I'm not too sure.
I have zero complaints about the view from our room.
You can see a gorge down there.
How cool is that?
We can also see the pool from our bedroom, which is very cool.
A little teacup.
Some tea leaves.
About four of them.
Sick one.
Honesty is always the best policy, but sometimes it's not.
I smashed their china, but we are in China, so it's probably cheaper.
I then enjoyed my book for a bit before going to check out the hotel's amenities.
There is this pool table here.
This little thingy.
This is the strangest looking cycling bike I've ever seen.
What the hell?
Pretty decent view for some cardio.
Nicholas and I are about to play a game of pool, but I have a bet for you.
We made a bet that the loser would have to eat the spiciest thing on the menu tonight.
Nick is not very good with spice.
Myself, on the other hand, I might be good with spice,
but it doesn't mean that I won't be in the toilet all night.
That's me foreshadowing, by the way.
Deal.
After possibly the worst pool play I've ever seen in my life,
we had worked up an appetite, so headed to the Chinese restaurant for our free dinner.
I can smell the spice.
It's not even spicy.
I'll have another one.
There is a fire starting in the back of my throat there.
I thought it would be really funny to just eat as many chilies as I could.
The spice was somewhat manageable,
but I just wasn't really thinking about what would happen to my insides.
No chasing and fighting.
You know what?
This hotel is actually growing on me.
It's not as bad as I initially thought.
It definitely isn't worth the money.
The thing that actually went viral is the cafe,
and you can just go there for free.
For the room, I'm going to give this place an eight.
It's good, but it's not, like, amazing.
Service, I'm going to have to give it a six or a seven.
Six or seven.
Six.
Kill me.
I think it's going to have to be a six.
Now, for amenities, we have a pool table and a pool.
Amenities, I'm going to give this place a seven.
And then for food, the Chinese food was actually really good.
The Western food, not so much.
I'm going to rate the food an eight.
And for expectation versus reality, I think this place deserves a seven.
It is very cool in person.
The view from the cafe is amazing.
Looks just as good as it does in the videos.
Poor hotel, but I would never ever spend that much money to stay here ever again.
I then went to bed, excited to see if tomorrow's hotel would be as insane as it looks online.
Until I woke up three times in the middle of the night to use the toilet
because I ate so many ******* chilies.
Our time at the first hotel was over, so we headed back to the airport to fly to Chongqing.
Right, so I'm going to take a guess that most of you watching like to travel.
One thing that is essential whilst traveling is data.
I always use eSIMs when I travel, and I specifically use HoloFly to get all of my eSIMs.
Before I leave for any trip, I put a HoloFly eSIM on my phone.
That means whenever I land in whatever country I might be flying to,
like the Maldives where I am right now,
I already have data on my phone and I can use this little thing.
For me, the best part about HoloFly is the unlimited data.
I don't want to be restricting myself when I'm on holiday.
I'm not here to calorie count my data.
It works in over 200 destinations, so if you go to a destination that they don't have on their list,
congratulations to you.
The genuinely big round of applause because that is impressive.
HoloFly have something called Always On,
which puts one gigabyte of data onto your phone every single month across 150 destinations.
So if you end up somewhere you didn't plan to be, you will be covered.
And also, they have a real human being person on support 24 hours, 7 days a week.
If you want to save some money, specifically 5% off all eSIMs, use my code BENMORRIS.
And you can also save 10% on longer plans up to a year covering 160 destinations.
I've just landed back in China.
Let's go to the second hotel.
Adios.
This next hotel has also got a lot of attention online,
notably for its rather large bar, if you can even use that word.
But when we arrived, it was too early to check in, so we went to get some food.
Spicy hot pot, which Chongqing is known for.
Being in China is a massive culture shock from the UK.
Firstly, the food options, and also just what is acceptable in a restaurant as you're about to see.
Oh my god, bro just spat on the floor.
That is spit.
That's crazy.
And he's smoking a cigarette inside.
And he put a cigarette on the floor.
I think I'm crying.
It's really spicy.
Let's hope this next hotel has a nice toilet.
It was time to check into the Seiya Hotel.
I had paid £241 for one night at this hotel, and it was one of their best rooms.
I was feeling hopeful, and I think the reality of this hotel
is going to be just as good as social media, if not better.
The lobby to this hotel is on the 58th floor.
58th floor.
Hotel lobby.
This lobby is crazy.
Damn, got a cool bar.
Let's see if we can check in.
Oh, it's an iMac.
Nice, now I have to speak to a human.
Oh, f**k.
I think I do have to speak to a human.
Ni hao.
Introduce for you our hotel service.
Okay.
And this is just for afternoon tea.
Oh, wow.
Sorry, what's your name?
My name is Kang Kang.
You can call me KK.
KK.
Nice to meet you.
So far, our experience was going great.
The service here is so good, especially comparing it to the last hotel.
We just go for hot pot before.
Yeah, very spicy.
I think I'm crying.
But it's also delicious.
Yes, delicious.
I was about to see the room for the first time,
and although I'd seen pictures,
I was in no way prepared for what I was about to see.
My days.
What the hell?
We have a natural swimming pool.
This is crazy.
That's not even a bath, is it?
That is not a bath, bro.
This is going to take like five years to fill up.
Okay, we can fill this up?
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
You want to pour the water right now?
Okay, how long?
40 minutes.
Oh, okay, yes.
That's it for you.
Okay, thank you.
After using a year's supply of water for a small village,
the bath was finally filled up and it looked beautiful.
Before I go for a swim and play human bowling in my room,
let's have a look around the room
and see what we're working with.
It's time for the room tour.
Little wardrobe area.
Some bathrobes.
Slippery slippers, which I've already got on.
Sorry.
A little bag.
Oh, to go shopping.
That's nice.
Oh, wow.
We've got free earplugs.
Dope AF.
Here you go.
****, sorry.
Oh, no.
You, you, you lucky.
Back to the tour.
We have the bed, which is a very nice size.
I think this is like a super king.
On the side of the bed, there's this little screen,
which is quite cool.
It is in Chinese though.
No?
Oh, I don't understand.
Sorry, love.
This is a little sofa area.
Fruit in a bowl.
Is this real fruit?
It is real fruit.
That's good.
Up here, if you can see, is a projector.
And I believe a screen comes down in front of the next thing I'm going to show you,
which is our pool.
This is not a bath.
So when me and Nick get in it, we are not sharing a bath.
This is a literal pool.
This is ridiculous.
Who thought I'm going to put a pool inside a hotel room?
I guess the person that made this hotel, but it's just insane.
Like the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen.
We are on the 51st floor.
So the views are pretty nuts as well.
This is actually a Bluetooth speaker with a screen inside.
Little bar with a light in.
Chair.
And over here are your his and his sinks, in this case.
Bruh.
Why you gotta be munching a banana in the second by saying that?
We're not beating the animations.
I'm trying to work out how bad of an idea it is to jump in the pool.
We think it's probably not the best idea.
We've come to that conclusion.
Just don't land too hard because you don't want to go through the floor.
Or dive.
Head first.
Yeah, true.
Yeah.
Yeah, for sure.
For sure, bro.
Yeah.
Come on.
We're good.
That was absolutely fine.
I think there's like the tiniest splash ever.
And that is literally it.
It looks so sick.
I'm begging you, please.
Another thing about this hotel which I haven't seen go viral
is the fact you can smoke a cigarette here.
I didn't know this was a thing.
Now, if my mother is watching, I don't really smoke.
I actually don't.
But when you're staying in a hotel that has a literal pool in it,
I feel like I just have to.
This just doesn't actually feel like real.
Yo, bro's way to experience for that.
I thought I would further injure myself by throwing my body across the floor.
Nice.
The one bit of no water on it.
We then spent the next hour in the darkness just admiring the views of Chongqing.
I even went back to the famous spot where I met Michael.
I sent him a text.
Missing him dearly.
It was getting late though, so we headed back to the hotel and planned to put on a movie.
Oh, sick.
Chinese TV.
Chinese Tom and Jerry.
Yeah.
They didn't have a massive selection, so we went to sleep.
The next morning, we woke up to a foggy Chongqing.
Nick and I went for a stroll where we saw a man walking a metal ring,
but we had our slot booked at the hotel's spa.
And just to warn you, this isn't any normal spa.
All right.
There is some guy inside there shouting at me in Chinese,
trying to tell us that we can't go in.
There is a man inside telling us we can't go inside.
He's going like, no, no, no.
I know.
Because we're all allowed together, right?
Now, this is called the storm room.
The name is pretty self-explanatory, but if you have zero brain cells, I'll explain for you.
It's a room that makes you feel like you're in a storm.
It just rains water.
They play sounds and there's cool visuals on the screens around,
which were really low resolution.
To be honest, it should be in 4K, but I'm not complaining.
I do not complain about anything.
Unfortunately, it was then time to leave our hotel.
I do not have many bad things to say about this hotel.
For the room, I'm going to give this place a 9.
Obviously, the pool is pretty cool.
A bit of a gimmick, I guess.
Like, why do you need a pool in your room?
But hey, for the service, I'm going to give this hotel a 10.
They were amazing to us.
We had someone on WhatsApp.
We could text at any time.
And even though there was still a bit of a language barrier, they were just nice.
For the food, I'm going to give this place a...
I can't score it because I didn't have any food there.
Kind of a scoreboard, I guess.
And the most important one, expectation versus reality.
I feel like this hotel was exactly how I saw it on social media.
And so for that reason, it gets a 10.
The pool hotel is getting a No Catfish stamp of approval.
We then had a few hours to explore Chongqing,
so made our way to the cable car.
If I had to say one thing I've learned from my trip in China so far,
it would probably be to carry earplugs with you.
Anyways, we have now seen two hotels in China,
which means there is one left.
I saved this one for last because it looks the best,
but I also have a feeling this one could be the biggest catfish.
So we got on a plane and headed to another part of China.
Welcome to Yulin.
Why the f*** are you walking this far?
I just feel like driving it would be easier.
He's got the right idea.
It's called the LS Hotel in Yangshou,
which is renowned for its dramatic karst mountain landscape.
And this hotel has by far got the most attention online.
Look how many likes that reel has.
Clearly a lot of people want to come here,
but is it as good as it looks online?
Well, let's answer that.
Thank you.
Bye-bye.
Oh, thank you very much.
Sorry, very heavy.
My first impressions of the hotel were good.
Wow, look at this.
I can understand why this place has gone viral,
as I have literally never seen landscape like this in my life before.
Before I get to explore the room, I need to eat.
They've invited us to their afternoon tea.
Look at that view.
It looks beautiful.
It doesn't feel real though.
It's quite strange that I have to explain it.
I think we've gone into self-stimulation.
For real.
Oh, wow, wow, wow.
What do we have here?
We enjoyed our interesting array of afternoon tea,
which was actually pretty good.
And I have to say better than the first hotel.
Do you want any?
I want to eat a bit more here.
We then decided to explore the very unique grounds of this hotel
before checking out the room that made this place go so viral.
This is the garden of the hotel.
And honestly, this is where things get a bit strange.
I don't know whether to be confused or to feel bad.
There is bunnies.
Lots of bunnies.
Here, bunny, bunny.
Hello, bunny.
Oh, f*** yeah.
Now we want some, don't you?
Yeah, you f***ing do.
Concerning how quick my guy just ran over.
Never seen a bunny eat lettuce before.
I thought this was just in the movies.
Whoa, what the...
Mate, it's huge.
Why is it upside down?
This bunny's genuinely like broke its neck.
Oh, they're fighting over the lettuce.
Next on our list of random AF items in the garden,
we have goats and ducks together.
Please do not hold the ducks or goats.
They are a bit dirty.
Hello, guys.
Hello.
They definitely speak Chinese.
Ni hao.
It feels like I'm on a set for Shrek.
It's so bizarre, but I kind of like it.
What's that for?
I guess it's just for photos, isn't it?
This hotel was starting to feel like it was just built for Instagram photos.
And of course, they include a free 30-minute photo shoot with your stay.
Nick and I had to book one for the next morning
and it was actually the highlight of my time here.
I'm going to see how high I can get, Sir Nicholas.
Mate, this is record high here, I reckon.
Oh, sh**.
F***, keep it going.
Wait, am I being stupid?
Are these houses from Smurf?
I think they could be because this guy looks like a Smurf, although he's not blue.
I can't remember if all Smurfs are blue.
And then what's inside?
Literally nothing.
Brilliant.
So far, this is definitely the strangest and most random hotel I've ever been to in my life.
And now, feeling like I was in a bit of a fever dream,
it was time for what I had really been waiting for,
to check out the room and see if it's just as insane in real life.
I like your trousers.
Yeah.
Nice, sparkly.
Okay, thank you.
Yeah.
I feel so bad, she's carrying my bag.
She won't let me take it.
Whoa, look at this.
Wow, unveiling our view.
Holy moly, that is insane.
Yeah, yeah, this is a sus angle.
Is it actually good length-wise, like the size?
Yeah, it's actually fine.
It's definitely...
Yeah, I mean, I knew I'd be fine.
This bed is circular, as you can see.
It's a circle mattress.
But it's not the shape of this bed that makes it unique.
It's actually this little device they have, which will make it do something that I will show you.
I would like that, but I want to see the view that's behind me.
With the rise of a button, I can spin the whole way around and I can just keep going.
Yeah, it takes a little while.
So I'll save you all the pain and just speed this one up a little bit.
Maybe a bit more, a bit more actually.
Yeah, keep it going.
Voila, just like that.
And I can spin all the way back as well.
Which we're not gonna do.
Why?
My hand's about to fall off.
The slightly easier solution is to just push it.
Shit, should we see how fast we can get this going?
You're not sleeping in here though, you know that?
What?
I got you another room.
I got you another room, I swear.
Oh yeah, what is that?
You're looking at it.
As you come into the room, there is another circular object in this room and it's a bath.
There's zero privacy though because everyone in the garden can see you.
We may have seen a girl walking around her apartment in her underwear.
Can I say that?
It sounds a bit pervy, doesn't it?
And it wasn't a girl, by the way, it was a woman.
She is of age.
We saw someone getting changed in their room.
I think it was a bikini, so technically there's nothing wrong with it.
There's technically nothing wrong with them doing it, not us looking.
Also, I think this is genuinely the biggest TV I've ever witnessed in my lifetime.
Look at this, it's massive.
As we've covered, this is the bed.
There is buttons in Chinese, don't know what they do.
That answers my question.
The hotel might be slightly strange, very random, but this is beautiful.
I have never seen landscape like this before in my life.
It's so cool.
Over here is the living room.
As you can see, Nick is enjoying the sofa.
Enjoyment is being had.
We also have a mini fridge.
What the hell?
We've got a Fanta, a Chinese one.
Sprite.
Surprisingly, also Chinese.
Coca-Cola.
And no f***ing idea.
I should probably try this drink.
I feel like I only owe it to her.
I think it is coconut water or milk.
It looks a bit milky.
See?
Oh yeah, that is...
Yeah, that's not coconut water.
We have a balcony as well.
A lot of you watching have probably seen the video of this hotel going viral.
I'm going to try and recreate it and see if it actually looks as good as it does in the video.
In my video.
Okay, she starts with her hands behind her back, walks across here,
and then runs with her hands over her head.
Shows a few spins and looks out the view.
F***ing yes!
I forgot to show you all the bathroom, but it is...
It's just a bathroom.
Actually, it has a little cool knob on it.
Like, I've never seen one of these before.
And then we have Japanese toilet.
They don't discriminate over here.
Friends again now.
I think it's Japanese.
Oh, that's lovely.
That is...
I probably shouldn't be just touching the toilet seat like that.
Have you sat in a warm toilet seat before?
Oh, it's amazing.
It started squirting me.
It was then dinner time.
So we headed into Yangshuo with the goal of finding their rather unique delicacy food.
We had a wander around and stumbled across this restaurant that had what we were looking for.
We've got the menu.
Can you read it?
Oh, yes.
The fish has a lot of forms.
The fish is that it has no bones.
The fish is that it has no bones and the bones can be eaten.
So the food that we came here for is beer fish.
It's exactly what it sounds like.
Fresh fish cooked in beer.
And they do the whole thing right in front of you.
Yeah, wowee.
Oh, there goes the beer.
Oh, s***.
We getting drunk tonight.
Technically sober, but I don't think it's really careless.
It's freaking surprising.
Thank you.
Eight minutes and our fish will be ready.
Time to try the fish.
You know them ones where they bring you out of four.
So grateful.
After a long day of doing virtually nothing, it was time to head to bed.
And in the morning, we'd be doing our 30 minute photo shoot.
So, of course, I needed my beauty sleep.
All right, night, bro.
Yeah, night, bro.
See you.
Sleep well.
See ya.
The second most important thing about a hotel is, of course, the hotel breakfast.
I don't have pineapple.
But it might be okay.
Nuggets and fries.
Eat stuff.
Burger left for me.
Before we leave the hotel and China, there was one very last thing we needed to do.
Of course, it was our photo shoot.
We have epic costumes here.
Please see if you want to change them.
Okay, thank you.
Is this cultural appropriation?
Oh, that's sick.
That kind of goes crazy.
Yeah.
I don't know if I'm allowed to do this,
but the lady who is Chinese suggested me to do this.
Good luck.
Oh, I like swag.
Cold?
Cameraman Nick is getting into his...
Yeah, just go.
Yeah, yeah, sorry.
Oh, ----.
I actually rate the trousers here.
Yeah, low-key.
I would wear these.
For low-key though, I'm actually about to ---- myself.
Guys, it's really, really bad coming to the toilet.
I might need to go.
For reals?
Maybe.
Are you okay?
Yeah.
Kind of okay.
Guys, I don't want to go up the stairs,
but I'm going to have to do it.
Are you okay?
Yeah, I'm okay.
Yeah, okay.
I'm wet.
Are you okay?
Yeah.
I'm walking through this lobby and this outfit is definitely experienced.
We are about to check out,
which means I need to rate the hotel.
The room, genuinely, I have to give this a nine.
I thought it wasn't going to be as good quality as it is,
but everything's really decent.
For service, I'm going to give them an eight.
Like, it is really good service.
It's just they're very direct and like...
Now.
But they're extremely helpful and they don't really speak English,
so it's fair enough.
Now for amenities.
The rabbits, goats, ducks, the swings.
The fact they let my cameraman sleep for free
in one of the little houses down there was very kind of them.
Eight is what I'm going to give the hotel for amenities
because there is a lot to do.
And for food, I'm probably going to give it a six or a five.
The food wasn't the best.
The Chinese food we had this morning was quite good.
The other food just seemed a bit cheap.
On the expectation versus reality,
I think I'm going to put it a nine out of ten, I think.
The view is pretty much the exact same.
I had a great time at this hotel.
Would I actually pay to come here just for this hotel?
I don't know.
I would for the view.
Hello, here's the checkout.
Oh, you have a gift?
Wow.
Oh, thank you very much.
Thank you.
Nice to meet you.
Shorty coming back.
