Hog Cay is a fabulous island to spend a week lobstering, spearfishing, hiking and sea glass hunting. We loved the remoteness yet strong internet (Strongest in the Bahamas yet!), the other cruisers who are all unique as this is not a destination for the faint of heart, and the island life. We spent a couple of days spearfishing and lobster hunting out in the ocean before the winds picked up. And, on windy days, we took advantage of hiking the island and searching for sea glass. The ocean side had the the perfect environment for tumbling glass into perfectly shaped, frosted masterpieces. It was very hard to leave, but we knew we had to go or we would stay forever.
NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia.
So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too!
As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. Hopefully, you will be as BLOWN AWAY from watching, as we are in experiencing and producing our adventures!

I'm gonna shoot them with these guns. We're so crazy.
We've lost it. We've been in the Bahamas now for almost five months and we are 0 for
and 0 for, 0 for 8, 10, something like that for catching lobsters. And the lobster season is
there's only two more weeks left. So we are going with Alan and crew from
Tangent out to the reefs out the ocean. We have no problem finding
the lobsters. Someone has a problem with closing the deal on the lobsters.
So he's talking big today about me needing to have a lot of batteries to be able to get all
the lobsters. I'm gonna shoot them with these guns right here. That's what I want to do.
Those guns haven't worked yet in five months, but who knows?
Tell you what, these lobsters don't just hop into your boat. You got to get them and they are
hanging on for dear life. So let's just say it's a good thing that we're
not having to depend upon lobsters or catching food for our meals.
If we're not careful, it's going to be beans and rice, lentils once again.
We've never done this quite this crazy before. So this is a, this is a new one.
How do you get the lobster? And this is how we find...
While Mike was giving Brown a clinic on how to catch a lobster,
I was busy spotting for both of them and found this beautiful octopus in the rocks.
That is crazy. I think it'll set you back about 80 bucks. Look at these bucks.
In the end, Mike caught four lobsters and one hogfish. It was a great day. Brown learned so
much from him, especially that he was using the wrong spear. Mike was so kind to send us home
with three of the lobsters and the hogfish. And while it was not expected, Brown promised to bring
over fish curry later in the day for Mike and his family. Got a little visitor under the boat.
Look who's cooking. Yesterday was a pretty intense day on the water. So today we're going to do some
hiking. We're probably going to get pretty wet, but we're looking forward to our first hike here
on Hog Key. I'm telling you what, this is high class trash marking trail. There's Blown Away.
All right, we have two goals today. Goal one, see glass. Goal two, find some flotsam and jetsam.
Two, put our boat name in Hog Key Yacht Club. I think we're gonna have plenty to choose from,
sadly. Well, I'm glad we didn't decide to go out lobster today. This would have been rough.
It's pouring rain and there are squalls coming in, although it's looking bright, like brighter
skies behind the squalls, so we're hopeful. But for now, we're stopping in a little bit of brush
that we found that blocks the wind, which is good since we're completely soaked. And we're eating
protein bars from Costco that are two and a half years past expiration date, but they still are
great. Great packaging, everything. So it's either the hypothermia that's going to kill us or
the out-of-date Costco bars. Look at this in like 15 minutes. How crazy is that? The honey hole.
We're so rich and we're so crazy. We've lost it. I gotta pull her away,
so we're never going anywhere. All right, I'm coming, I'm coming. He's just those two. No,
you're possessed. Oh, you see them on the other side of the rock, don't you?
The one on the other side, is it new? We're crazy. She's found a new passion and that's
collecting worthless, worn out, broken glass. But it's so wonderful, isn't it, sweetie?
To do this, you have to explore these places where nobody goes that are really rough.
So there's no trail out here. We're just making our own way south in this desolate island
where nobody goes, period. But definitely nobody goes to this side.
Now that the sun is out, it's beautiful and that is the sea glass gold vein.
Well, we've managed to make it all the way down to the southern tip of Cog Key to the pass between
Hog and Ragged. We just got to figure out how to get over there. We have successfully made it to
the south of the island and heading back. Look at that beautiful view and that beach. Wow.
We found a metal buoy for our boat sign, which is great. And then we have about, I don't know,
three pounds of sea glass that we found to carry back too. So it's been a very successful hike.
It's just amazing to me how many beaches
the Bahamas has that no one has ever seen or been on or walked on.
All right, today we are trying a new hiking trail, looking for sea glass yet again,
but also getting some exercise. Mainly looking for sea glass. Yeah, that's true.
It is a beautiful day here at Hog Key. It's super calm. We've had turtles and sharks and
lots of things visiting us. The bets are in. We have bet according to whether we think we're
going to find better glass today or was yesterday better. I think it's going to be worse. I think
it's going to be better. And this is a contest that is going to lead to a new title for whoever
wins. And that is Glass Master. OK, so no holding back. All right. Just to win.
All right. All the stuff on this first beautiful beach is all new. I found one piece of sea glass.
All right. Admittedly, that was a decent spot right there. Still not like yesterday,
but getting close. These fingers ended up being hot spots. So much glass that we had to stop.
We've got to go back. We have too much glass. What's my name now, sweetie? Glass Master.
I am the Glass Master. Did I win by a little bit or a lot? A lot.
Bob the Builder, keeping us on path. One of the traditions of the Hockey Yacht Club is that every
boater can leave their sign in the Yacht Club. Everyone picks flotsam or jetsam from the ocean.
So we're using all of the trash that we found on the beach. We found this zinc antique buoy.
I don't really know how well it's going to paint. And we are rigging up a fuse. So it's
our boat's name is Blown Away. So we're making this look like a bomb blown away. All right.
Anyway, we're having fun. We'll see how it turns out. And really, we have limited things to
work with. I mean, if you have a boat, one thing I recommend doing is getting a set of
sailing vessel tangent for letting us borrow these. We trade beers for paint and, you know,
just whatever to help each other out. So that's what we're doing here. And well, you know what?
The fun thing is we're just figuring it out as we go and hopefully it'll turn out OK.
We are planning the letters right here. Eileen did a great job with the braid here. She came
up with the idea of this. We feathered it. It is time for the hanging ceremony to begin.
Look at our beautiful bomb blown away.
Oh, yeah. Sailor's tradition at sunset is to blow the conch shell.
