Yes, indeed the critics have assembled my man and me as the dog stars are marking their turf at the theater
I get it dogs marking a turf
And the Thunderbolts in my opinion are striking in the right place, but we begin with a coyote
court case so who's to blame
There's probably someone to blame
Name of the case is coyote
versus
Wily coyote
It's a Looney Tunes court case for the ages as the humor in coyote versus acme gets explosive, that's what's up
And this new group of awkward superheroes brings their action to the small screen so don't sleep
I'd like not to die today. So maybe somebody else be driving
It was
Doesn't exist
Here it's just us trying to hold on to what was
But out there it's kill or be killed
And finally Jacob Velordi takes the lead in the dog stars a dystopian thriller that has the critics barking
Critically speaking now. Oh man last time. I checked that one had a 40-something percent on Rotten Tomatoes
Welcome aboard critically speaking a show that is all about movies
I'm your host Lee Thomas and joining me my main man with the master plan Adam Graham
My man, I found it. I see you
Yes, indeed not a lot to talk about to me in the corner
All right, let's do what we do man
Let's jump right into it shall we do it do the business of filmmaking or upcoming movies that have caught our attention in this
One is getting a lot of buzz
Yes, indeed
We're still a few months away from the Avengers Doomsday hitting the big screen
It's just mentioning it that grabs people's attention and Marvel fans are being given an assignment ahead of time
Doomsday co-director Joe Russo told Fandango that fans should rewatch in-game
So they understand the upcoming film specifically
Avengers in-game encore, which is a re-release of the 2019 film with four minutes added for new minutes
along with a sneak peek of
The court hits theaters September the 25th Doomsday hits theaters
December the 18th do we take the Russo assignment for four minutes of new footage to a
2019 film and some new stuff from
Doomsday I say
Three hours and two minutes of movie just to get four more minutes. I'll pass. Yeah, let's say you my man
I think if I were to watch that and try to pick out which the which of the four which of the minutes were the
New minutes, I don't think I don't think I could do that
And also Lee I'm not trying to do any additional
Homework that I'm already doing on a whole other movies are coming up between now
And then that said if I'm gonna watch endgame again at all
It would be in the theater and it would be this presentation
I'm not gonna watch it at home and I really most of these things all of the Marvel all the Marvel movies
I think I can't think of an exception
I've seen once mm-hmm, and then I go into the next one and I pick you know, I retain what I've retained from the previous
However, many chapters right? I'm not going back. I'm not doing that work and they have TV shows in between
Mostly I've skipped as well. Yeah, here's the thing though
I did when Iron Man came out which kind of launched the whole Marvel Universe with Robert Downey jr
I've probably seen that movie four times
Black Panther, I don't know how many times I've seen that movie
Yeah, so some of them I have seen twice back in the day sure, but recently there's three Avengers. Do I have to watch the
Avengers and then you know
Ultron and then in-game just to get up with doomsday if we have to watch endgame to get caught up for this one
There's also been like four or five or six or seven or eight movies since endgame. I'm just not doing all that
Wow, there really has been that many movies a lot of movies including one that we tease that we're gonna talk about a little
Bit later. Yeah, we should have tied up everything to lead into this next one, but
right
Assignment though just watch the rest of the show cuz we're gonna break down all the movies
Forward and talk about movies and this one is like visiting some old loony friends
The coyote is tired of his old back tricks backfiring
So he hires an attorney and brings a lawsuit in coyote versus acne. I liked it. Plus there's this
Jacob
lordy
But quali and Josh Brolin are under the dog stars in a dystopian future in a film that's exactly as
Advertised, but I'm not sure that's a good thing. I'll give you my explanation critically speaking, of course
Movie out this weekend without any animated characters stars. Jacob LRD a lordy and
Margot quali along with Josh Brolin's post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller
Directed by get this Ridley Scott. Yeah, the award-winning Ridley Scott and critically speaking the dog stars
feels like something's missing I
miss music
miss
Driving in the car. I'm listening to music
Singing on the way to the grocery store. I miss the grocery store. Yeah
Yes, just two very attractive survivors of a pandemic in a post-apocalyptic world connecting in this new sci-fi thriller
It's called the dog stars. Now the main character Higg great name
I think played by a lordy is a mechanic and pilot who travels by plane in this
There's these vast shots of stunning landscapes. Look at that now Josh Brolin
He plays this mentor
That helps him survive
But of course the Lord he wants more and he comes across this father and daughter played by
Margot quali and Guy Pearce. I like seeing Guy Pearce here
Now the story takes place after a virus in this lawless ungoverned world
So some people rob and kill while others are trying to build safe communities directed by the award-winning Ridley Scott
The story is solid and the cinematics are top-notch. Here's the problem
This film feels like a formula even the dialogue seems like many things
We have heard before this movie felt like it was following this kind of formula of what it should be with no new nothing new
And no new surprises even the end of the movie where it pans up to this beautiful sky
Yeah, it's a thumbs down one hour and 58 minutes the dog stars exactly what you expect, but it's not a hard thumbs down
It's a mild thumbs down Adam. I give this one a C
But in this case, it's a thumbs down C. Yeah, what say you about the dog star?
It's a definitely a big thumbs down leads. Is it a mess? I think it's a mess
It's at least three different movies and there's also a pilot
There you go
Amid the three movies that it may be there's also like a failed pilot for an ABC sitcom
ABC like weird drama that's not gonna last a full season like I know that you know what I'm talking about
Yes, I do. Let's just say Allison Janney. What in the world was that segment that we eventually get to?
I didn't like because there's also like you didn't mention like the meth zombies that are running around this world that are actually
Met zombies or not, but they were definitely close. What was happening there
It's like there was so many different things and you like the radical shifts in tone
Yeah, kind of um, they're cued by the the musical score
That sometimes identifies like this kind of like soft with some
landscaping kind of peaceful
scenes of life in
post-apocalyptic wilderness
Also, there's like these jarring action scenes like we're seeing right now
Yeah, action scenes are really are done really well
But they just totally are a total mash with the other things that are happening
And I'm not even sure by the time we get to the end of this movie
What we're supposed to have taken away from it. Is it that life continues?
Is it that people are essentially good when they're not meth zombies? I don't know
There are some there are some good things about this movie and chiefly Josh Brolin's performance
I love I want to see like 30 more minutes of him being a beast of a kind of survivalist
Jacob Elordi in my recall they are also good, but they're like, you know in a Nick Sparks romantic comedy
Yeah, a romantic drama that like is it totally apart from all the other things that are happening?
I just I just didn't know how any of this was supposed to fit in together into a coherent hole and it doesn't I guess
We'll be like a C-minus. There are some nice things but man, it's a real mess. I thought it was gonna be worse C-minus
Passing grade in some places, but not
And also like there's some good dog stuff, too
Oh, yeah, there's some sad dog stuff, but good, but the good stuff kind of it's it's I agree
I like a good dog on screen. All right, we'll shift gears to the next. It's a mess. Yeah, I agree. I agree
Let's talk about this one
And this movie is starring cartoon characters that I watched as a kid the Looney Tunes and critically speaking
They are still Looney and I was hesitant about them coming back to the big screen
But Wile E. Coyote is my man
Biggest corporation in the world. They're suing us for every acne product. He denies all charges
That is for you. I got news. Please don't it's not funny cartoons are supposed to be funny
It is funny and I did laugh Wile E. Coyote takes the company that made all those faulty products
He uses to catch the roadrunner to court John Cena plays acne's big-time lawyer Will Forte plays the small claims attorney
Representing the coyote. Yes, it's Looney and raucous and I enjoyed it Lana Condor plays this second chair attorney
Intern at the small firm with Forte and the human cast is solid
But what makes this film to me is my Looney Tunes man, Bugs Bunny Daffy Duck Elmer Fudd
Porky pig ball horn leg horn. I say I say
Of course the coyote as well
Honestly, I wanted more of Elmer Fudd in some of the Looney Tunes
Especially when Elmer Fudd was in Congress. He's on a panel
Runtime now in 43 minutes coyote versus acne made me smile brought back good memories. I give this a B
It's absolute thumbs up Adam. What say you?
Absolute thumbs up Lee. This is a very good movie
It didn't have to be good movie at all
When I saw that people were talking about it as being a good movie
I thought that everybody was on the same laughing gas or something
Really funny it is clever
It's twice as clever as it needs to be to work and it kind of like really plays with all these like
Classic screenwriting cliches to bring you into the story Lee and make you actually feel for some of these characters
There is a there is a scene where the Roadrunner is testifying in court
Yeah, and I swear that it gets a little bit emotional
And you feel for those years and decades of
You just said the Roadrunner made you emotional. It's absolutely true
And they know what they're doing. They know everything that they're playing with and they really make it work
It's also really funny like the gags really work foghorn leghorn for best supporting actor. Let's start
When he marches into
It's like Gordon Gekko's
And there's also like shades of like JFK in the way that they're like playing with like
Conspiracy thrillers and courtroom dramas. It's just all again twice as clever as it needs to be and twice as funny as I thought
It was going to be a really really good time at the movies
I agree this movie got rescued from oblivion
It's now in front of us on screens and the time it maybe was never going to be there
I think people anybody who goes to see this is gonna have a really fun time
Especially if they have affinity for those old Looney Tunes cartoons really good stuff
It's really funnily and if it wasn't we would sit here and tell you that it's not but it is
Yeah, I was really happy with this. We always speak truth. My man. I'm glad you loved it as much
It's a lot of fun. All right, let's move on to another film. That's out this week. And this one is a comedy called idiots
You know what we do here
Drive rich kids to rehab
She drove a choice
Careful yes, so there you have it two
Unqualified slackers are hired to drive this rich teenager to rehab
But obviously they have a sidetrack they go on an adventure
It's not as straightforward a job as they thought it would be it turns into craziness idiots stars Dave Franco
O'Shea Jackson jr. And Mason Thames. It's rated R and in theaters only right now when we come back
You know what time it is now to the movie watch how many times did I look at my watch during your movie and this
week, it's all about those Thunderbolts and
I don't think so
I don't think so jr. Varsity Captain America
How nice to see you Ava
Elena
You look awful. You sure you're really ready. Okay, this film doesn't look awful, but it's no Avengers at all
This is something different. Even though all of these heroes come from other Marvel films Florence Pugh
She is a great young actress and she's from that Black Widow trained program named Elena
David Harbour is the Red Guardian
Wyatt Russell is not Captain America. I
Think that's his actual title
The only real almost Avenger that's here is Sebastian Stan's Bucky the Winter Soldier
Now the story is about these trained assassins working for a government agency led by Julia Louis-Dreyfus that is being shut down
Director Jake Shriver has
Enough action and stars in Thunderbolts to satisfy most fans of superheroes
Superhero movies the Thunderbolts is now streaming on Hulu and Disney Plus and in my opinion
I said this when it was in theaters a few months ago
This is a better movie to stream in my opinion Adam Graham
What say you about the Thunderbolts and now streaming on Disney Plus?
I call it the new Avengers because they called to the new Avengers
That's supposed to be was that supposed to take hold
Supposed to replace the title for it. I don't think it worked. I never know
I never it didn't really catch on me now. We're coming back to the old Avengers, which are the new Avengers
There's so many
Anyway, how are we gonna have new Avengers when there's so many can't even count them
These are the important conversations Lee, but Thunderbolts is an interesting play. I really like Florence Pugh in this movie
I really like Florence Pugh in every movie that she's in Florence Pugh guy
So she's watching her and there's that great shot of her when she when she falls off the bed
That shot has been stuck in my head
Since I saw this movie back when it came out
Yeah, it's a good stream if you're gonna do any homework for the upcoming Avengers saga
And I believe that's why this is coming out now on these platforms
This is good homework to do to catch up with what are the modern Avengers as we get ready for Avengers doomsday in December
Coming to theaters and infinity vision people are streaming a lot, you know what I mean? Yeah spider-man
Actually was the last spider-man brand-new day was actually homework as well leading up to
Avengers how much homework for the Avengers are we gonna get we're gonna get more but you know
That that's good because in spider-man the Florence Pugh character was in that as well wedding people's appetites for the I mean
But hey people go how why do I have to watch a movie and then they'll go home and stream
Eight episodes of whatever show they love. Well, that's the classic conundrum Lee of streaming versus movies
It's two hours versus one. Everybody just wants the easy out
film in theaters this week called finding Emily
Looking for a student Emily
You've got two seconds to leave before a call security, all right. Yeah. Okay. All right
All right after meeting his
the dream girl at a bar a young man gets the wrong phone number and sets out on a
Journey to find Emily finding Emily rated pg-13 in theaters only right now when we come back
Hadestown the musical is my pick of the week
critically speaking that
For a few weeks, but now the eight-time Tony award-winning Broadway show Hadestown is video-on-demand for purchase
You can watch it at home and it is my pick of the week Adam Graham my man
What's your pick of the week? My pick of the week is it ends a new movie that's in theaters this weekend
It's about a road trip where four friends post-college are hitting the road together
They're going out for a long weekend, but there are the road that they're on Lee. It never ends. Oh, there's no exits
There's no way to get off this road and it goes and goes and goes and goes and goes and goes and any time they
Stop people run out of the woods and try to kill them
So they find out they have 30 seconds and then they got to get back in the car and go and go and go and go
And go Twilight Zone episode that really works and kind of plays with time loop situations like Groundhog's Day
Thanks, but in like a sci-fi kind of horror kind of way it ends in theaters good stuff my man
I appreciate you good stuff as well. Thank you Lee always you bring it every week and you guys thanks for tuning in
We appreciate you as long as they keep making movies. We'll keep critically speaking about those films next week Ryan Reynolds in
Mayday, so please
Take me
