AI GeneratedThe discussion explores the emotional core of The Mandalorian, focusing on themes of chosen family and the protective bond between a parent and child. The actor reflects on his admiration for Sigourney Weaver, the magic of the cinematic experience, and his personal journey of perseverance and gratitude in pursuing his dreams within the arts.
One of the things I loved about this film, and Jon Favreau had said it before, I didn't realize how
much it was until I saw it. He said this was a father-son story, it's a family story, it's a
story about love, it's a story about chosen family, it's a story about all of those things.
So how much did you think about or did it sit with you when you're making this movie where it's like
the hero is the protector but then you know the child kind of starts to take care of the parent
and how much is playing the Mandalorian change maybe the way you think about protection and
family and choosing and love? It's kept me completely connected to like the most important
things in life that are you know the people that you love and the need that you have to protect the
things that you love, covet the things that you love. It's kind of crazy that like this green
adorable big-eared creature with like three fingered claws and the force and this faceless
armored from head to toe bounty hunter reflect like such a human and relatable relationship of
parent and child, chosen family, everything that you've just said and the evolution of that
relationship and how it has its own life in its own terms. Before going into harm's way
check your armor first. We're protecting everything the rebellion fought for. Good luck
you're gonna need it. By the way you know that Grogu is gonna take your
mantle as the internet's boyfriend. Oh. You're done buddy. But he's had it. You're done. He's
Grogu's been running things from day one. Yeah for sure. That's why his name's in the title.
Exactly. We've all heard stories of the Mandalorian bounty hunter and a child.
I only hunt imperial war criminals. I'll take out every bad guy in your deck of cards.
This isn't about revenge. It's about preventing another war. You called Sigourney Weaver the
biggest badass and I concur. I definitely do. Was there ever a moment where you just had that
oh my god it's Sigourney Weaver. Yeah every single time I freaking see her. You know. You know
for real. No I'm being I'm being serious because I get tongue-tied every time I see her. I you know
it's incredible because like she's a perfect example of like early early early imprint right
and then she kept on authoring all of these like incredible performances in every single genre
right and then I get older and then learn that she trained in the theater that she comes from
the theater has seen her on stage. Her husband ran a theater in Tribeca a chic theater called
The Flea. You know so again like I was saying before the thing that connects you to it more
than anything is the love of it and the art of it and she's a perfect example of what is a movie
star who understands like being on stage and the struggle and going after it right. So we've
already shared like nerd stories and like and and and she's just been a dream to be around. Sure.
And and I I can't get over it. I'll just I'll never get over it. Strap in. Need a professional.
Hang on. What happens when you're not there to protect him? You good? We're gonna have a little
lesson in Manifestation 101. Okay. Because apparently you're very good at it. Oh really?
Yes because you said that you secretly wished that The Mandalorian would become a movie. That's
right. Now we're here. I started to say it on the on the press line. Oh okay. So it was like word
your mouth. I kept it to myself for a while and then I started opening my mouth a little bit.
Yeah. So I don't think that had anything to do with it but um but I mean wish granted that's
for sure. Well why don't we claim it and say you manifested this moment. I manifested it.
Do you do that though? Do you believe in that? I think I have to. I yeah I do. I have to believe
in it um because I definitely am experiencing something that I'm a part of something that
people are going to get to experience on the big screen that I got to experience on the big screen
when I was a kid and that blows my mind. Yeah. And my dreams they started you know developing
because of the big screen experience that is Star Wars and many other movies that live in my heart
and in my brain and are imprints. So um I love that there's a new Star Wars movie on the biggest
screen possible that audiences can experience together and have and I don't know a new
generation of moviegoers hopefully that that will have similar memories. Monsters.
But you seem to live in a place of gratitude. You seem to live in a place like
none of this that I'm doing is lost on me like I'm living my dreams like you said from when you
were a young kid. So have you had other moments along this journey in life that you feel like
okay I thought this I dreamed it and now it's happening like I don't know your big break moment.
Um you know it is definitely a long journey. Yeah. Definitely hard times
and I think that some dreams die for them to be born again um and I think that just like you feel
like love can die for it to be born again and um and but it never does you know dreams never die
love never dies but you experience these sort of like I don't know uh uh you you you you grow you
get knocked down you get back up. Sure. You know um and so I I think that that yeah maybe I did
get to a point where I was like you need to be realistic about your future. Baby preach. You know
and like that doesn't mean change what you're doing but definitely change the expectation of
what it's gonna get you and and and and and and and build a relationship to what you love the
most about it which was for me you know um community and um acting and storytelling and
and being an art you know um and uh and so and so that that that that was what that was what
wherever that was going to take me was where I was going to go. The old protect the young.
