MIKA Moshes To Big Girl (You Are Beautiful) Live At Belladrum | Belladrum 2026

One night about 21 years ago, 22 years ago, I was sitting at home looking for a song to write and I couldn't find an idea. I had the television on and at that moment completely by chance a comedian called Victoria Wood, a genius called Victoria Wood was in the United States making a documentary about America and she went to a club that was opened by a woman who was sick of feeling out of place in places where she didn't have the right body. So she opened a little club in California where a queen could feel like a queen, a furry animal could feel like a superhero and a bald Scotsman with the worst wing you've ever seen could feel like a king. Victoria Wood visited this place, it was called the Butterfly Lounge and I looked at it and Jesus finally I'm gonna write this song tonight and I thought of my auntie Alexis, my auntie Rosemary, my auntie Mimi and my mother and I thought big girl you up and today just before I came on stage I found out that the actual woman who opened this club decided to come all the way from California and is here today at this festival. Her name is Charlotte, I do not know where you are but Charlotte, the queen of the Butterfly Lounge, the one who started it all, this song is for you. that girl now the thing is over these years we've developed certain traditions and it doesn't matter whether we're in California, in Mexico, France or in Inverness, we stick to our traditions. Would you like to come with me to the Butterfly Lounge? Now you see, even if Charlotte is here tonight, wherever she is, the truth is the Butterfly Lounge doesn't exist anymore. So for Charlotte who is standing in the crowd, are you ready to recreate the energy of this club that does not exist anymore? you are beautiful
