Penguins Next Move REVEALED... Insider Gives SHOCKING Report

Star defenseman Eric Carlson to not other than the Toronto Maple Leafs
We're gonna talk about that and everything on today's edition of penguins digest kind of a low-key bombshell
Coming out of the 32 thoughts podcast of this morning

You could also get a notification for it if you press the notification bell, but yeah guys are pretty pretty crazy stuff
But let's let's open this up. First things first. This is from Leafs latest on
Well, I guess from 32 thoughts coming down at the bottom of your screen here depending on how both this is from Elliott Freeman
depending on both team seasons go my prediction is
Eric Carlson becomes a Maple Leaf Kyle Dubis has never really told the full story as far as I know
When he was GM of the Leafs, he tried to trade for Carlson at one point
I don't know. I don't know that I see him getting traded at all
But he said look if Carlson and remember Carlson has a no-move clause comes to the point where he's on the market
Matt Sundin, Daniel Alferson, Eric Carlson, that seems to be his pick
So if Eric Carlson does seem to be on the move
It seems like the Toronto Maple Leafs will be the team that he would go to
I mean I can kind of see it making sense given the major Swedish connection the Toronto Maple Leafs have built
Obviously, you know Alferson's there Sundin's there Nylander plays for them. That's pretty important to looking at the connections there
but I
Think this really all just depends on how well the Penguins end up doing this season in my opinion
Do I think Eric Carlson is likely to get moved if the Penguins are playing?
Well, no, I I personally don't but we don't know how the season's gonna go
obviously last season was very successful for the Penguins, but
Again Kyle Dubas is still trying to juggle
you know both timelines of the Penguins the young Penguins with the old ones and
Eric Carlson could get a lot on the market with his despite his no-move clause and could be surging because he had a
Very very successful season last year. Obviously, he was you know, kind of in a little bit of a reticence
I mean, obviously 66 points was pretty solid 15 goals 51 assists. He was just kind of all over it. I felt like
Someone like Dan Muse really had him going in in a successful, uh, you know position to succeed
Obviously his ice time was huge. It was up there
You can see his ranked 120 and also using a little bit of a new system here
So, let me know what you guys think about that in the comments as well
And if we kind of go gloss over his we're gonna get back to 101 points, but super super successful last year
I think there's a lot of
You know game left in Eric Carlson and I bring this up just because it's from Elliot Freeman
I wouldn't bring you guys something that doesn't seem very substantiated
I think this is really significant if Elliot Freeman is saying it on one of the biggest hockey podcasts, you know
Kind of you know, I guess, you know in North America
So I think that's super obviously one year left on his deal. That's super big as well
11.5 million hours that is retained. I believe it doesn't show it in the screenshot. But when you're left on the deal
Again he is 36 and the Leafs haven't getting a little bit older if you look at some of their acquisitions over the past offseason
Which I'll show later, but this does kind of beg the question like what would you even get back in an Eric Carlson trade?
Obviously, he's really good
But if he is only choosing the Toronto Maple Leafs, which is what Elliot Freeman is saying in his quote
They're from 32 thoughts podcast. What would you get back someone who's been on them?
Uh, you know been on the market a lot or been in trade rooms a lot lately is Morgan Riley
I mean
It's kind of a similar to Eric Carlson in the sense of a more offensive minded defenseman last season wasn't that good for him?
He was kind of all over the place, especially dealing with someone like Craig Berube. He wasn't very successful
I think under Demi was someone like Morgan Riley would be successful
Obviously, he's he's a left-handed shot instead of a right-handed shot
But I think he would fit in seamless and then the big thing to me as well is
The Toronto Maple Leafs connection
I mean Morgan Riley played for a long time under Kyle Dubas basically his entire time Dubas was there
Morgan Riley's been with the Leafs for a long time
He's been in trade rumors for a long time, but this does seem I guess kind of lateral
I don't really understand it from you know, I guess either team's perspective
I guess you know
Eric Carlson is a better player than Morgan Riley and if you do kind of take a look at the Leafs depth chart here
Morgan Riley's I don't know if he'll slot in it in their top left pair D
But on the right side right now, it's it's Radish Tanev Stetcher
Tanev dealt with an injury last year
I think so he didn't play most of the year and then Stetcher is kind of like an extra defense
But you don't always gonna play every game
But Eric Carlson would slide in pretty seamlessly on that second pair or maybe on the first pair
But they did just pay Radish a lot
It's kind of a wonky fit
But I think it does kind of make sense if the Leafs are good and the Penguins are bad
Looking obviously you take a look at the Penguins depth chart without Eric Carlson. It's not good. Really? I've talked about this at length
I think this defense does leave a lot to be desired
I think they're gonna be relying a lot on someone like a Harrison Brunick to play well
Because Sam Gerrard's tenure with Pittsburgh was okay last season
Obviously Eric Carlson, so not Eric Carlson, Chris Letang is a lot older now. So that's something to think about
I mean not a lot older now one year older than last year
But his age really showed last year and then I think Declan Carlisle can be good for them
But again, he's a bottom pair guy. Same thing with TBR
I'm not expecting a lot out of these players and Morgan Riley's contract is a little hefty
Against 7.5 million dollars. I get we keep saying the cap is going up. So maybe it's not too too crazy
But three years left. He's 32. It kind of makes sense
If this was like a one like a one for one not entirely one for one
But the Leafs would probably have to add because Eric Carlson is still the superior player
Looking at the contracts like it would end when he he's what 36. I think Eric Carlson is what I think he's 36 right now. So
Yeah, so he's right now. So with you would be getting you'd be getting four years younger for the Penguins
But the big one which which would be interesting if someone was also in a lot trainers with the Leafs
I don't really expect him to get moved is Matthew Nyes
I think this would be a fever dream if you're a Penguins fan to get Matthew Nyes for Eric Carlson
He's an unbelievable player and he's signed for I think six more years or four more years
Technically if you count this one on
Huge player again drafted by Dubas. I think Dubas was a big fan of him
Plays big power forward. He's only 23 fixed both timelines kind of he's NHL ready
He's been he's been very successful at the NHL level. Uh, Matthew Nyes is a great player
I I just don't know if this is the guy you're getting back for someone like Eric Carlson all things go, right?
So that would be a big get but if I'm being honest with you guys, this is a little bit ambitious
I don't know if you're getting Matthew Nyes for Eric Carlson on
Unfortunately, uh in terms of like just like, you know logistics just kind of looking at the standings from last year
The Leafs weren't good last year and the Penguins they were very successful last year. That's the Pacific Division
But um, um, the the Leafs weren't good at all last year if you're looking at
The standings they were that's a really last in the division. Wow
They they are way worse than I thought they were that's crazy
And obviously look at it on the flip side from the Penguins perspective they were in the plow second the division obviously they lost the fires
Unfortunately, but they were more successful
They were more successful than the least work
So it would have a busy after the standings for each human basically have to flip for this deal to happen
Uh, but I think feasibly it could make sense for the Penguins if they do want to trade Carlson
You know kind of do right by him in his last year
He has been successful with them and do business got kind of the player that does do right by
By players if he can so I mean overall I can see it making sense for the Penguins
I can see it making a lot sense for the Leafs to I mean, he's an offensive dynamo
He's still very good. The Leafs are kind of becoming more and more veteran heavy. So let me know what you guys think of
this deal potentially happening
Based on the standings this could be something we attack more later into the season
But all that being said, do you think Eric Carlson being traded makes sense to the Leafs? Does that make sense?
What would you want back? I brought up Riley and Niles. I think Riley makes more sense than Niles does
I think if the Leafs do trade Niles, we're gonna get something a little more younger and more coveted than Eric Carlson
Especially if he wants to come here, they would have leverage
But again, nothing too too concrete yet with that but a pretty big, um, you know bomb from Elliot Freeman
