Ukraine is intensifying strikes against Russian military space infrastructure . This includes not only missile strikes on military airfields but also attacks on enterprises and centers supporting the Russian space industry. This is reported by Forbes , citing assessments from American experts in Russia's military and space operations.

One of the most prominent targets was the Progress Rocket and Space Center in western Russia. The company produces Soyuz rockets, which are used to launch spacecraft, including spacecraft to the International Space Station and observation satellites.

Elena Grossfeld, an expert at King's College London, told the publication's author that this strike is part of a broader Ukrainian campaign against Russian space infrastructure. According to her, this is not the first time such attacks have occurred. "This latest attack on Russian space-related production is just the latest in a long series," Grossfeld said.

She also noted that other important facilities had been hit previously. Specifically, in early August, Roscosmos's main research center in Korolev, a city near Moscow, was hit. In June 2026, space communications centers in Dubna, along with other similar facilities, were attacked.

Experts believe the consequences of such strikes for Russia could be exacerbated by restrictions on the supply of high-tech products. Grossfeld believes that to restore damaged infrastructure, Moscow will have to seek out necessary components and modern microchips through illegal supply chains.

Forbes also mentions a previous Ukrainian drone strike on a radio telescope in Crimea, which was originally developed by Ukrainian scientists to provide communications for space missions to Mars and Venus. After the Russian occupation of Crimea, the equipment was adapted to improve the GLONASS satellite navigation system.

Victoria Samson, an expert at the Secure World Foundation, notes that the nature of targets is gradually changing. She estimates that the current phase of the conflict demonstrates "an expansion of the range of types of objects becoming targets."

The publication notes that the space component of the war began to take shape even at the outset of Russia's full-scale invasion. Samson recalls Russian attacks on the ground infrastructure of the Viasat satellite network, which Ukraine used for military communications. After this, the Starlink network began to play a vital role in providing Ukrainian military communications.

At the same time, Russia is attempting to create its own satellite communications system, Rassvet. However, as Samson notes, Moscow is still far from fully deploying such a satellite constellation. Its launch would require the use of Soyuz rockets manufactured by the Progress company.

Grossfeld believes that the development of Ukraine's long-range strike capabilities is changing the situation for Russian infrastructure. "No Russian region can be safe, and, of course, space facilities and production facilities are becoming targets," she stated.

At the same time, the expert emphasizes the difference between the two sides' approaches: according to her, Russia is striking Ukraine's civilian infrastructure, while Ukrainian attacks are aimed at military or dual-use facilities. If a company produces military communications equipment, she believes it could be considered a legitimate military target.

A Forbes author notes that, for now, this space war is primarily taking place on Earth. However, the situation could change. Experts point to Russian anti-satellite weapon developments and the possibility of equipping the Nudol missile with a nuclear warhead.

In such a case, the publication warns, a single nuclear explosion in orbit could destroy a significant number of communications satellites and surveillance systems.
