Who Am I Speaking To When I Pray?

If God’s being is infinite being, then who do we speak to in prayer, and who, actually, is praying?
Rupert says: ‘In order to know who you are speaking to, you have to know who you are. If you feel you are a temporary, finite self, then the God that you are speaking to will, by definition, stand at a distance from yourself – above and beyond. And that’s fine. That is, in a way, the highest state of the individual self. It places the individual in the right relationship with the universal.
‘However, if God’s being is infinite, then that is the only being there could be, and whatever I am, I must be that. So, the highest prayer would simply be to be that infinite being – the only being there is. And to be that, involves no words. That’s why simply being is the ultimate prayer. It is the only state in which there is just God’s infinite being, and that is the highest devotion and the ultimate surrender.
