The Beltway Snipers: The Last Shot — Ep. 5 | MK Confidential

“MK Confidential” begins with the crime that will connect investigators to the D.C. snipers: a liquor store robbery in Montgomery, Alabama. Two women close up shop on September 21, 2002, and step into the parking lot. Two shots ring out and take the women to the ground. One will live the rest of her life with an implant to manage the pain; the other, dies within hours. John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo are to blame. Megyn Kelly reveals how the snipers pointed authorities out of Montgomery County, Maryland to Montgomery, Alabama, in an attempt to prove their credentials. A throwaway item at the crime scene unmasks Malvo, and, in turn, Muhammad. That leads them to the 1990 Chevy Caprice, and a public that is finally looking for the right vehicle. Police arrest Muhammad and Malvo without firing a shot. With victims spread across state lines, there’s a tug-of-war for where the shooters will stand trial. But is the evidence strong enough to convict? And what kind of punishment fits the crime of holding the nation’s capital hostage? This is Episode 5, the conclusion of the Beltway Snipers story.
