Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly preparing to return to Britain, six years after ‘Megxit’ saw the Sussexes step back from royal duties and move to the United States. Their potential return has sparked fierce debate, with Patrick Christys questioning why the couple would want to come back after their highly publicised fallout with the Royal Family.
‘It seems mad that they want to come back.’ Patrick Christys blasts the reported return of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, arguing that the Sussexes ‘stuck the knife into the Royals’ after years of public criticism and controversy. With the couple once again set to attract intense attention in Britain, Patrick gives his verdict on what their return could mean for the Royal Family.
All right, so Meghan and Harry are coming back to the UK
and it doesn't sound like many of you are particularly happy to have them back.
Have we got any fans in? We must have someone who's all right, at least ambivalent.
Oh, there we go, one person. Good, OK.
Ambivalent is the best they can hope for, I think.
It seems a little bit mad that they'd want to come back, though,
given the fact that they felt that they literally had to flee the country six years ago.
It's 6am on the 14th of March
and we are on the freedom flight.
The freedom flight, I mean, come on.
And since then, as we all know, they've stuck the knife into the royals.
There are several conversations about it.
There's a conversation with you... With Harry.
..about how dark your baby is going to be?
Potentially, and what that would mean or look like.
And Harry has been on record recently saying that there's no real chance of reconciliation.
I would love reconciliation with my family.
I don't know how much longer my father has.
He won't speak to me because of this security stuff.
But it would be nice to reconcile.
If they don't want that, that's entirely up to them.
Yeah, exactly. He went on to say, well, he can't do it without any accountability
and all of this stuff, and there's not really been any publicly, has there?
So, anyway, last night I had Prince Harry's friend Archie Manners on my show
and he said he was 100% sure the reason behind Meghan and Harry's shock return
was the King's health and wanting to be close to him with their kids.
I am in no doubt that the primary motivator of this move is the King's health.
What we have here is the beginnings of a family getting back together,
a son having a last few years with his sick father,
a grandfather spending time with his grandchildren.
Look, all very noble, all very understandable, isn't it?
Slightly odd, though, given that Harry gave this response
when he was asked how he's been processing his King's cancer diagnosis
while being so far away living in California.
Physically being in California, how have you processed the fact
that there's so much happening back with your family where you come from?
I have my own family, as we all do, right?
So, you know, my family and my life in California is as it is.
You know, I've got other trips planned that would take me through the UK
or back to the UK.
So, you know, I'll stop in and see my family as much as I can.
Yeah, quite an interesting response to that, isn't it, really?
He's got his own family.
Anyway, friends of Prince Harry don't want to talk about all this stuff.
They say it's all just speculation.
It's impossible to speculate.
A huge number of these articles, particularly the negative ones,
are entirely speculative.
For the next few weeks, we'll be speculative and damning
on stuff they have yet to do.
So much of what's written is entirely speculative.
All that speculation would go away, though, wouldn't it,
if Harry and Meghan just released a statement?
I mean, they'd just drop a bombshell, no explanation, no statement,
and they're probably going to moan about everyone speculating about it.
But anyway, then today, this happened.
Meanwhile, it's been reported that Meghan Duchess of Sussex
has been offered an acting role within the United Kingdom,
and GB News can confirm that that is the case.
More details shortly.
And there we go.
All of a sudden, it starts to make a lot more sense
about why they're back in Britain.
Supposedly, Meghan's got an acting job.
It is all coming together now.
But this is good, because it means that we will get to see
more of her Oscar-winning performances,
like this in CBS Studios' 90210.
She was the woman in the car, by the way.
Make that very clear there.
What was she doing, Patrick?
I'm not allowed to say.
Not allowed to say. I'll be honest with you,
I'm surprised we were allowed to play the clip.
But anyway, maybe she's going to star
in the latest series of Deal or No Deal.
Yes, it's easy to forget that she was very much an A-lister
in her own right, wasn't she, before she married into our royal family?
And then today, the breaking news.
Prince Harry, alongside Sir Elton John, Liz Hurley and Baroness
are facing a legal bill of up to £34.5 million
after losing their phone hacking case
against the publisher of the Daily Mail.
And supposedly about £9.5 million of that
has to be paid in the next few days.

So, let's get to my panel, let's get
to the audience. I want to know if anyone here is
particularly happy that they're back.
Christo, I imagine you are absolutely
cock-a-hoop with the idea of Harry and
Meghan moving back to Britain.
What have we done
to deserve
such news?
No, really, what have we done to deserve
such news? Look,
they're hypocrites.
Why would they want to come back to a family
that they have implied are racist, implied
took Meghan's passport, implied
froze her out, sold stories on her,
were absolutely
horrific towards them both,
and now they want to come back and spend
time with them. Why would you want to do that?
Unless, of course, you're broke
and the only money that you've
made over the last couple of years has come
from trashing that
family. And I think there
lies the problem, and there lies my fear
with this, is that
they're going to come back.
The only thing that they've done that's successful is
either the Netflix documentary,
which had some good success, not the
cooking show, where we learned that amazing
revelation that put a teabag in water
it makes tea. Well done, Meghan.
And that edible flowers can be thrown on absolutely
everything, including, I believe, Israel and Gaza.
But, I think
that the
I think that sort of the stuff
about the royals is the stuff
that has been successful for them. Harry's book
Spare, where of course he spoke about putting
Elizabeth Arden-Creamer on his private
parts, and said how it reminded him of his mother.
What a great
tribute to Diana, Princess of Wales.
And if they come back and have a couple more
years with the royals, they'll have a couple
more years of gripes
and accusations that they can then
monetise in a couple of years' time
and make more money,
because everything is through the prism of PR
and money.
Adam, your views on why they're
back? I can't bear them, if I'm
honest. I'll be honest,
because that's what I do on here.
I'll say it as it is. Harry was
a proper man. He served in
our armed forces.
Anyone that does
that, I have great admiration
for. And in just a few
years, she turned him into the wokest
prat that I've
ever seen in my life.
I cannot bear to see him.
He's like a perpetual victim.
And she's a narcissist.
She just wants to be on the front
pages or on the TV, no
matter what. Before she met Harry,
I have it on good authority, because I've got
friends in those circles, she was after a
famous boyfriend. She hit
jackpot, or what she thought was jackpot.
But then she realised, there comes
duties, and she has to follow the
rules when you become a royal.
And she didn't like that. So she threw her
toys out the pram, and they
went across the Atlantic
and got away from a so-called racist
family. I don't believe those
allegations at all, and I don't believe you would
come back if those were true.
But look, they are hypocrites,
attention seekers, and I want nothing
to do with them for this country.
Gosh, okay, well, strong stuff there.
Look, what do you make
of their return? I mean, obviously, Prince
Harry's friend, Archie, last
night in the studio was pretty
adamant, this was before news broke of Meghan's
resurgent acting career, of course,
that he was actually, they were coming
back primarily because
the King is not in great health,
and they want to be near
him. Well, look,
he may be a friend of Harry's,
but he doesn't speak for them,
and, you know, he was going
on about speculation, and
all he was doing was speculating, so
look, I don't hold much
by that. I'm glad that Adam
said that he respected Harry's service
in the military, as I do. I think
that's absolutely right, and we should honour that.
I also respect what
he's done for ex-servicemen who've lost
their limbs, and the Invictus
Games, I think, is a real
achievement, actually.
Anybody managing to
get that, you know, to happen,
and to give those guys,
you know,
just the amazing
experience of doing that,
I think is worthwhile.
Look, all families
have problems. All families have problems,
and there are fallings
out, and there are makings up.
I hope that whatever rift there was in
the royal family can be healed. I hope
that that can not just be with
the father, but also
with his brother,
and I wish them well,
but
quite honestly, I don't
spend a great deal of time thinking
about it, and quite honestly, I think it would be
better if the newspapers didn't either.
OK, all right. Well, before we go to the audience,
the gentleman with the microphone on the front row there, but
Emma, your views on
their bombshell return, because for me,
that idea about, well, you know, we shouldn't
be speculating, OK, I understand
that, but that would go away if they
just released a statement, and what we've actually had
is, you know, OK, it was released
when was it now, Wednesday
night, I think it was at about
10pm, and then
since then we've had the odd little drip
feeding of various different other nuggets,
almost like this is actually
a carefully curated PR campaign.
Yeah, one might speculate that what they
want us to do is speculate.
The most recent
drip-fed bit of information
is that she might be starring
in the Netflix series The Gentleman
that I've never heard of before. Oh, is that the one
with, like, massive imports of
cocaine, marijuana, and all
of that? It's about a duke who
becomes a drug baron. A duke?
Do you mean a member of the nobility
who takes loads of drugs? I mean,
that must be very unfamiliar to them.
But I do think, you know, it's gone
very badly for them in America. They're clearly
not popular there, despite the kind of sickly
video that you just played there. Yes.
Is that Beyonce calling her up?
It's obviously
not gone well in the US.
There was some speculation
on the
Telegraph podcast that
maybe one of the reasons why they're choosing now
to come back is because the door is
still ajar while King Charles is alive,
whereas when William becomes
king, that door will be firmly slammed
shut because the fallout
is so severe. So maybe this
is something to do with timing, maybe this is more
to do with her career.
I mean, saying that it's about
his father's health, it may very well be.
But as you played that
clip there, I thought it was a very callous
thing to say, I have my own family, as if
you don't care very much about your
father's cancer diagnosis.
I can't imagine in a million years
saying that about my own father.
So I think that this is
got to be, when you look
at the overall picture of how they
make their decisions, this has surely
got to be calculated.
And I think Christo's right, it's about
creating more hubbub because people have forgotten
them. Everything they've done while they've
been in America has been a massive flop.
And I think you're absolutely right, it's about
it's so calculated.
That answer there, which was the callous one about
the king's cancer, which you spoke about,
that was the right answer for
what they wanted to achieve then.
When they were talking about when it was
I don't know how long my father's got left,
that was the right answer for them and their
PR then. Now it serves
them better to have a
different set of priorities.
It all has to be viewed through
answers being curated
and what they can monetise unfortunately
because that's what's important to them.
The other aspect of this is the timing.
Prince George is just about to start
Eton and they've announced
two weeks before the children, apparently
their own children, will be going to a
British school. It
strikes me very much as similar to, I can't remember
if it was Princess Eugenie or Beatrice
where I think she was at one
of their weddings when she announced that she
was going around telling people that she was pregnant.
It seems to be very
much by the same playbook.
I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when William
found out though.
Wouldn't you, when he got that call.
The amount of plates being smashed
around whatever stately home they were in there
because that is another aspect to it. Apparently
we went to the palace
about this and asked them and they
confirmed it to our Royal Correspondent Cameron Walker
that it doesn't seem genuinely
like they told the King
or William until
Sunday. Which is not really the way
you go about things. I just want to
emphasise Megan's text message
from Beyonce here
which she read out.
Beyonce commended Megan for her bravery
and vulnerability and said she'd been
selected to break
generational curses that need to
be healed. So that's
magnificent isn't it. We're going to be serving
up a lot more of this stuff. Just quickly
it really sickens me when people say
you're being racist because you're calling out
Megan. I threw a party
in my pub when they got married as did many
pubs up and down the country. Celebrating
her coming into the Royal Family
celebrating that wedding. Because I
thought and I remember tweeting about it
she was going to be a breath of fresh air.
It's not our fault she turned out
to be a complete diva and
a complete nightmare and she nearly
ruined the whole Royal Family.
To call that out is not racist.
She's done it to herself but of course
if things don't go right the
easiest thing to do is play the race
card. Well sorry the British public
deny that race card. Just quickly
as a sign of where things might go with this.
Norinda Kaur the TV personality
is saying that the
hate towards Megan Sussex
needs to be criminalised. Criminalise it?
Oh criminalise it.
They want to put me in jail for climate denial
apparently as well. So now if you don't like
the Royal Family you can get put away.
It's just ridiculous how these people think.
I think you'd be very popular in jail.
I do. I'm just saying.
Why's that? What do you mean?
Explain it to me. Because you're a very
very enigmatic and wonderful
personality. That's why. Your personality.
Why would there be any other?
Alright let's go to Barry.
Barry look we're going to be returning to this
at twenty past ten but I think you
made an interesting point there about family
reconciliation. Look anyone
hopes that any family can start getting on a bit
better but the big sticking point I think is William.
Should William do you think actually be the bigger
person here and publicly
absolve his brother of anything or do you
not see it going that way?
I have a wonderful
phrase that I used to have stuck on
my wall with a picture of Mahatma
Gandhi and it says it has
always been a mystery to me
how anyone can feel themselves
honoured by the
humiliation of a fellow
human being and I
think we all need to remember
that a lot more and
I hope that there would be
reconciliation between
anyone who needs it.
But of course within
a family and as I say
we've all got things in
our families where you know
people have fallen out over time and
these things happen. We all know that
but the key thing is ultimately
if you're a family you
try and put it behind you, you try and get
together and you do it not just for the
sake of the parents but for the sake of
your kids as well.
When we return to this I'm going to be really zoning in
on the cost
that Harry's now got to stump up. It's like nine and a
half million quid I think it is in a few days time
so you know that is quite interesting
but also as well I mean one of the big
elephants in the room here as it were is
whether or not Doreen Lawrence, the
mother of Stephen Lawrence, is going to have to pay for this
herself because from what I gather she
was really led along quite strongly
with this by you know the lawyers
by some of the other claimants there you know there
was people you know some huge celebrities
that were involved in this, Elton John for example
I'm sorry I could be wrong
about this. I don't think Doreen Lawrence has
got like ten million quid down the back of the sofa
so you know Harry and Elton
John and whoever else involved in this are they
going to be paying for her
legal costs here because that is something
if she was led along that is pretty
poor form to say the least but anyway
