4 Perennial 'Onions' Every Gardener Should Grow.

What if you could plant onions once and keep harvesting and multiplying them for years? In this video, we're checking on several perennial alliums we've been growing and planting even more!
We'll take a look at our White Welsh Perennial Onions about six weeks after transplanting and see how they're already starting to divide. We'll also check on our Louisiana Evergreen Shallots, fill in a few gaps in the row, and talk about how fertilization can change depending on whether you want lots of green onion tops or larger bulbs.
Then we're planting more 365 Chives and talking about one thing we've learned while growing them — these things LOVE water!
But the biggest surprise involves our potato onions. Potato onions are considered a long-day allium and aren't really supposed to bulb this far south because our days aren't long enough. We've been growing them for four generations without much bulb production...until now. This year, they finally made some really nice bulbs!
Was it the weather? Plant maturity? Growing conditions? Or have we selected a strain that performs better in our climate? We don't know yet, but we're replanting these bulbs to see if we can make it happen again!
