Hikers Rescue Stranded Dog Only To Realize It Was Protecting A Toddler

Odalys Ferreira-Nakamura and her hiking group spotted the golden retriever from the ridge trail, soaked and shivering at the bottom of a steep ravine. They climbed down expecting a simple rescue.

He wouldn't let them near him. Every time someone reached out, he snapped and repositioned himself in front of a hollow log at his back.

It wasn't until one of the hikers looked past him, into the log itself, that they understood exactly what he'd been guarding through the entire freezing night.

This is the story of a dog who wouldn't be rescued first, a toddler no one knew was missing, and the ravine that almost kept them both.
