Hello and welcome to my channel. Well, this is a scarf for you guys, the beginners.
What you're going to need for this scarf, you're going to need some yarn. I use acrylic for this
scarf. You might need maybe 300-400 grams of yarn, depends how wide you want your scarf to be. For
mine I chain only 24 chains. You might want to chain 26, 28, 30 chains, the way you like it. I
don't like too wide in my scarf. You're going to need some scissors, crochet hook and that's it.
I chained a small chain, just to show you the stitch, how to do this stitch.
This stitch is called moss stitch. Some of you might have seen the stitch on my channel.
This stitch works with multiples of 2. You're going to chain even numbers. I put only 12
chains here, just to save some time. Then I'm going to finish my scarf with you,
showing you how to finish and how to attach some tassels. This stitch, the first chain,
it's this one here and the second chain it's here. What you're going to do, and I will suggest you
leave this loop a little bit loose. You go into the second chain, not this one, this one. You go
there and we're going to do a slip stitch. To do a slip stitch, for those of you that are beginners,
you insert your hook into the chain, grab the yarn, pull the yarn, you have two loops. To do
a slip stitch, you're going to have to take this loop and pull through this one. That is called a
slip stitch. Then we're going to move to the next chain and we're going to do a half double crochet.
To do that, you put your yarn over the hook, hold it there with your finger, go inside the chain
and then pull the yarn and you have three loops. Now you're going to grab the yarn and pull the
through all these three loops. That is called a half double crochet. Then you move to the next
chain and you're going to do a slip stitch and pull that loop through the first one and again
you're going to put the yarn over your hook and you're going to move to the next chain and you're
going to do a half double crochet. You're going to alternate. So pull the yarn through all three
loops, we move to the next chain and we're going to do a slip stitch and again we're going to move
to the next chain and we're going to do a half double crochet. The next chain we're going to do
a slip stitch and you're going to alternate. One slip stitch, one half double crochet and so on.
And now we're going to move to the next, we're going to do a slip stitch,
Now half double crochet in the next chain and the last one, because we started with a slip stitch, we're going to finish the last chain with slip stitch.
And you're going to chain 1, always you're going to chain 1 at the end, turn your work and then this is the first stitch here.
Because you finished with a slip stitch, when you start the next row, you're going to do a half double crochet.
So yarn over the hook, go into the stitch, pull the yarn and then grab the yarn and pull the yarn through all these 3 loops.
And the next, we move to the next stitch, we're going to do a slip stitch.
I would suggest when you do the slip stitch, leave a little bit loose because it's going to be a little bit difficult to get in if it's too tight.
So we're going to move to the next one, we're going to do a slip stitch, yarn over the hook, move to the next stitch and we're going to do a half double crochet.
Next stitch we're going to do a slip stitch and then the next stitch we're going to do a half double crochet.
Because what you're going to do, now to do a half double crochet, you're going to poke into the slip stitch from the previous row.
And if it's too tight, you're going to struggle getting in.
So leave that, when you do the slip stitch, leave it a little bit loose, like this one, leave it a little bit loose.
And then you move to the next and you do a slip stitch, yarn over the hook to do the half double crochet in the next stitch.
And then you move to the next stitch and you do a slip stitch.
Boy, it's not easy with long fingernails.
Now, yarn over the hook, because you started this row with half double crochet, you have to finish the last stitch with half double crochet.
And again, I suggest you leave this a little bit loose when you do the previous row, because, again, you're going to struggle getting in there.
Chain 1 and you turn your work and because you finished with half double crochet, you're going to start the next row with slip stitch.
Yarn over the hook, next stitch we're going to do a half double crochet, next stitch is going to be a slip stitch.
Yarn over the hook and move to the next stitch and you're going to do a half double crochet.
Next stitch is a slip stitch and next one is a half double crochet.
Slip stitch and the next one is half double crochet.
You're going to alternate like that.
For you guys that are beginners, pay attention how it looks, a half double crochet or a slip stitch,
because you might put your work down, you need to do something else and when you return you will be like, which one I was supposed to do now?
We did the half double crochet, then we're going to move next to the slip stitch.
Half double crochet and because we started the row with a slip stitch, we're going to have to finish with a slip stitch.
The last stitch is here, so make sure that this one is a little bit loose.
We're going to do a slip stitch, chain 1 and again you're going to start again.
You finish with a slip stitch, the next row you're going to start with a half double crochet.
Yarn over the hook, the stitch is right here, you go in there and you do like that.
And the next one is a slip stitch and you're going to alternate on and on and on.
I think you got the idea.
With this yarn, from what I understand, I think it's medium thick, so they require 4.0-5.0 mm, so I'm working with 5.0 mm.
But the yarn that you're going to purchase, they will tell you the recommendations, what crochet hook you should use.
I did my scarf, I hope you understood the stitch.
If not, you can go on my channel, search on my channel and you will find the mouse stitch tutorial.
In there I will explain much better, but here I'm kind of rushing.
Let's finish the scarf, just to show you how to do it.
I have here a half double crochet, I'm going to go next with a slip stitch.
Next one is a half double crochet, next one is a slip stitch and the last one here is a half double crochet.
It's very important this last one, when you do, make it loose, because otherwise you're going to yellow the yarn.
I'm going to chain 1, I'm going to pull up a loop a little bit, and then I'm going to take the scissors and I'm going to cut the yarn.
You have a loop here, so pull one of the, like this, and it's going to make a knot.
Because this is a little bit bigger, I'm going to use a smaller one, 4.0 mm, just to hide the tail.
The way I do it, I keep turning the scarf like this, and I hide the tail.
Otherwise, if you're going to go just like this, you're going to see this here, so I don't want to see that.
That's why I keep turning the scarf, you see? You don't even see it here.
So again, you're going to turn.
Okay, let's just say that you hide the tail.
And now for the tassels.
Well, for the tassels, you're going to need a crochet hook bigger than, let's say, with what you've worked.
Because you're going to have to attach the tassels.
So to attach the tassels, you cut as many as you like to put.
I choose to put only 5, 2, 4, 5.
So you're going to put them like this, as best as you can, to be straight.
And let's say here, I'm going to try to...
Well, I would suggest don't put right here, don't poke right here.
Poke a little bit, not on the, let's say, the edge.
Take your yarn and put it like this, the strings.
And then, kind of twist it a little bit.
Something like that.
Because otherwise, you're going to lose the things.
If the crochet hook is not wide enough to hold these things, you're going to lose them.
And you have a loop here.
Pull a little bit like this.
And then, with your fingers like that, grab the rest of the tail and pull this through the loop.
I put a lot, a lot of yarn here.
And there you have it.
Well, let's try... Oops, I lost one, you see?
OK, now another one.
So, depends how long you want.
I don't want too long, I'm going to cut it just like this.
The other side is short, so I don't want too long.
So you put this in half.
And, well, leave at least one stitch in between, if you want.
So I leave one stitch and I'm going to poke into the next one.
And it's not going to be easy because this is a little bit fat.
OK, now it's not going to be easy to pull this through.
Well, it's fun.
You have to have humor and patience with these kind of things.
So pull that through the hole.
It's going to let me.
OK, I did it.
OK, you have the loop.
Put your fingers through.
Grab the tail and pull the tail through the loop.
And then pull.
And like this. And that's it.
You can put them, you know, as far apart or close to each other, the way you like.
It doesn't matter, it's up to you.
So, yeah, this is the scarf.
It's not complicated for you guys, the beginners, it's just right.
My scarf, because I'm sure many of you are going to ask me how long is my scarf,
it's 1 meter and 78 centimeters.
It's 178 centimeters, my scarf.
So, yeah, I just wanted these things, the fringes, a little bit short, not too long.
If you like long, you put it long, it doesn't matter.
So this is the scarf.
It's very easy and goes fast.
It took me some time to make this scarf, because the yarn is not so thick.
So it took maybe two days, you know, working a little bit, putting it down, doing something else and so on.
So this is the scarf.
It's very simple for you guys, the beginners, it's just the perfect project.
So if I didn't show you, you didn't see that well how I explained the stitch,
you can go on my channel and search the video with the title Crochet Moss Stitch Tutorial
and you're going to see it there.
It's very easy.
Some of you might struggle if you don't have experience with attaching the tassels.
But, well, we're learning.
Practicing makes better, I think, until you get pissed and you put the things away.
Okay, guys, thank you so much for watching.
Well, happy holidays!
