Twisha Sharma Case: CBI alleges mental cruelty by husband, mother-in-law

CBI has submitted its final report in the death of 33-year-old model and actress Twisha Sharma alleging mental cruelty by her husband and mother-in-law that contributed to her suicide. The agency has reconstructed her final hours and they've used phone records, they've put together the records with CCTV footage, medical records and the family's statements and now they've drawn up exactly what happened in those hours. According to the CBI charge sheet which was filed before a special court in Bhopal, Twisha sent her final message to her sister-in-law Rashi Abrol and that message went out at 9.36 p.m on the 12th of May. In that message, Twisha asked her sister-in-law to tell her husband to collect her remains the following day before saying that she wanted to die in peace. When the message sent just minutes before her death and the CBI has cited that the is a key evidence as of the alleged mental cruelty that was being faced by Twisha. Here's more from the CBI. They say that Twisha had repeatedly spoken about alleged mental harassment at her marital home. On the 30th of April, days earlier, Twisha told her mother that she had suffered an anxiety attack and that her life had become hell. The investigation also focused on alleged pressure surrounding Twisha's pregnancy. The CBI alleged Twisha's mother-in-law pressured her to reverse the medical termination while Samarth, who's her husband, questioned the paternity of the unborn child. The CBI has reconstructed Twisha's final 79 minutes through CCTV footage and phone records. Here's what happened. At 9.36 p.m, Twisha sent her final message to her sister-in-law, as I mentioned earlier, Rashi Abrol. Four minutes after that, at 9.40 p.m, CCTV footage showed Twisha walking towards the terrace and exactly a minute later, her father spoke to her over the phone. That's about 9.41 p.m. This was followed by her mother's call to her at 10.05 p.m. And according to the CBI, both found Twisha crying and speaking incoherently. Now, subsequent calls to Twisha went unanswered. Her mother then tried contacting her husband Samarth before calling her mother-in-law. And what happened after that call became a critical part of the investigation. Sometime after 10.05 p.m, according to the CBI, CCTV footage showed Giribala Singh, that's Twisha's mother-in-law, leaving her room to check on Twisha. And at 10.23 p.m, Giribala was captured going to the terrace to check on Twisha along with her husband Samarth. Later, Samarth, his cousin and a domestic worker, they were seen bringing Twisha down from the terrace in an immobile condition. And according to the CBI, her body was found hanging. At 10.55 p.m, doctors at AIIMS Bhopal declared Twisha dead. And this extraordinary minute-by-minute account forms part of the CBI's 600-page chart sheet in the Twisha Sharma death case, which was filed on the 14th of August. Two post-mortem examinations, including one at Delhi AIIMS, concluded that Twisha died by suicide. And Delhi AIIMS examination found that a gymnastic belt with a ring was used as the ligature. The report also found no other injuries of medical-legal significance, suggesting that an assault or scuffle before her death. There's no such suggestion. But following her death, Twisha's husband Samarth was arrested in Jabalpur on the 22nd of May. And this happened after he remained absconding for nearly 10 days. His mother, Twisha's mother-in-law, that is Giribala Singh, was arrested by the CBI on the 28th of May. The case remains before the court, with the CBI awaiting key forensic reports. And Twisha's iPhone has been sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory in New Delhi for data extraction, while the agency is also awaiting the DVR report from her mother-in-law's residence.
