Understanding Ptolemy's Almagest (Books I & II)

Ptolemy's Almagest dominated astronomical thought from when it was written in the 2nd century CE, until the 16th century. Yet, as historically important as this work is, its nearly impossible to find out anything beyond a surface level understanding of what it contained.

This video will cover Books I and II. In this, Ptolemy introduces his philosophical assumptions, develops several handy tables that he will rely on to make calculations easier, discusses his place on the terrestrial sphere, and explains how location influences our view of the cosmos.
