August can be both cruel and beautiful, meagre or bountiful. The pest pressure in this year's hot, dry weather has been stronger than usual, especially the flea beetles. I show the damage, and sticky traps are from Gardening Naturally.
In these conditions, whether growth is successful or not depends a lot on applying enough water. I'm doing everything with one hose, on half an acre, economical with water because it's all applied by hand, exactly where it's most needed. No dig definitely helps with moisture conservation.
