Mayu Ishikawa vs Melissa Vargas | Crazy Volleyball Battle !!! Japan 🇯🇵 vs Türkiye 🇹🇷 delivered an incredible battle in the Women's Volleyball Nations League 2026, with two of the world's most exciting volleyball stars going head-to-head: Japan's Mayu Ishikawa and Türkiye's unstoppable scoring machine, Melissa Vargas!
The match was played in Week 3 of the 2026 Women's VNL in Osaka, Japan, and it was a crucial battle for both teams as they fought for their place in the VNL Finals.
Türkiye eventually defeated Japan 3–1, with the final set scores being 25–22, 22–25, 25–22, 25–22. Japan fought back strongly after losing the opening set, winning the second set 25–22 and leveling the match at 1–1. However, Türkiye regained control in the third set and closed out the match in four sets.

Mayu Ishikawa delivered a strong all-around performance for Japan, finishing the match with 15 points, including 14 kills and 1 ace.
Although she was not Japan's top scorer — Yukiko Wada led Japan with an incredible 27 points — Ishikawa remained one of Japan's most important players. Her contribution went far beyond scoring, as she also played a major role in reception, defense and transition play.
Ishikawa is one of the most complete outside hitters in international volleyball, combining powerful attacks with excellent technique, ball control and defensive ability. Her consistency and versatility make her one of the most important players in Japan's system.
🔥 MELISSA VARGAS — TÜRKİYE 🇹🇷
Melissa Vargas was one of the biggest reasons Türkiye managed to defeat Japan.
The powerful opposite hitter finished the match as Türkiye's top scorer with 20 points, including 19 kills and 1 ace.
Vargas constantly pressured Japan's defense with her incredible attacking power, explosive jump and ability to score from difficult positions. Her performance was another example of why she is considered one of the most dangerous offensive players in women's volleyball.
Türkiye also received excellent performances from Sinead Jack-Kısal, İlkin Aydın and Zehra Güneş, giving the team the attacking balance needed to overcome Japan.

Vargas won the individual scoring battle by five points, with the biggest difference coming from her attacking production. She recorded 19 kills compared with Ishikawa's 14.

Vargas is Türkiye's explosive offensive weapon, capable of taking over matches with tremendous power and scoring efficiency. Ishikawa, meanwhile, is a more complete all-around outside hitter whose value comes from her ability to contribute in attack, serve reception, defense and transition.

🏆 A HUGE MATCH IN THE 2026 VNL
Türkiye's victory was extremely important for their VNL campaign. The win helped Türkiye secure qualification for the VNL Finals, where they continued their incredible tournament run.
Türkiye eventually went all the way to the championship and defeated Brazil in the Women's VNL 2026 final, becoming VNL champions once again.
And Melissa Vargas took her performance to another level throughout the tournament, ultimately being named the MVP of the 2026 Women's Volleyball Nations League.
Mayu Ishikawa also remained one of Japan's most important players throughout the competition and finished the 2026 VNL with an impressive 215 total points.
