After eight years in Bali and nine homes, Miki and her family decided it was time to stop searching — and start building. In this episode of A Peek in Paradise, we visit the home that came out of that decision.

It took a year of searching to find the right piece of land. And find it they did, in a location much closer to the beach than they thought would be possible. Eighteen months later, the result is a home that feels both considered and easy to live in.

Miki describes the architecture as “nasi campur” — a mix. A Colombian architect, subtle Peruvian influences, and a palette of materials that come together in a way that feels refined, but never overworked. It’s all been designed with family life in mind.

The house opens with a warm, practical kitchen at the front — the kind of space that quietly supports the rhythm of the day. Roman tiles run underfoot, adding texture you feel as much as you see. From there, the main dining and living areas unfold, designed around passive airflow. Large openings create a constant cross breeze, reducing the need for air conditioning and allowing the house to stay connected to its environment.

At the centre, the home opens out to a sunken outdoor living space — a place that naturally draws you in, especially at sunset. Beyond it, a pool that follows the contours of the land, softening the architecture and grounding it in the landscape.

Inside, the spaces are generous but thoughtful. The master bedroom, like much of their home, looks out toward the ocean — on clear days, all the way to Uluwatu — and is layered with details that prioritise comfort, down to the linen. The bathroom continues that feeling, with a deep tub, double sinks, and a quiet, neutral palette.

Function sits just as comfortably alongside aesthetics. A separate chef’s kitchen is tucked at the back for heavier cooking. Rooms shift throughout the day — an office becomes a TV room, and can easily turn into a guest space when needed. Even the teenage retreat has been carefully considered, with elevated hangout spaces that create their own rhythm.

This is a home that doesn’t try to follow one style. It reflects a life — layered, practical, and shaped over time. And has views to die for!
