A Marietta family is looking for answers after a two year old was found dead
behind an apartment complex. Police say the child was reported missing from the
Briggs at Powers Park Apartments last Friday and was found hours later. That
complex located off Ridge Run Southeast. That's where we find Fox size. Annie
map live in Marietta tonight with that story, Annie Courtney, we're talking
about the case of two year old Messiah Harris. As of now, we don't know how he
died, but police do believe his mother's boyfriend tried to cover the
death up.
I just want justice for my nephew. Loved ones of two year old Messiah Harris
now grieve a life gone too soon. His life was precious
and his loss has left a hole in our family's heart that can never be filled.
Marietta Police say Messiah was under the care of his mother's boyfriend, 23
year old Darren Keith while she was at work last Friday. Investigators say
Keith called 911 before two in the afternoon to report him missing from
the Briggs at Powers Park apartment complex. We thought he was going to be
retained. We didn't know it was going to be like this far. Like we didn't
know. I just kept on praying and praying. Police report they found the
child's body after seven that night in a wooded area behind the apartments.
They accused Keith of lying to Cobb County 911 and to investigators about
what happened. They think he placed Messiah's body in the woods and covered
it with dirt and vegetation. But what we need now is to slow the investigation
down and do our due diligence to ensure that if something was done
incorrectly or improperly or to hurt him, that that individual be held
accountable. Keith now faces charges of concealing a death and making false
statements. Messiah's loved ones say they are trying to support his parents
through this difficult time. They described the toddler as playful and
smart for his age. He literally was like a little old man to us. Like he
literally, if we was mad, he would make us happy. So it's like everywhere he
went, he was a joy. He would talk to strangers. He didn't even know they
would love him.
And the family tells me they plan to bury Messiah a week from Saturday,
which would have been his third birthday. They have set up a go fund
me to help with burial expenses. We have that on our website, Fox five
